The Art of Drifting: A Conversation with Chelsea De Nave and [Driver's Name]

When it comes to drifting, there's no shortage of excitement and adrenaline-fueled action on the track. For two of the most talented drivers in the sport, Chelsea De Nave and [Driver's Name], the thrill of competition is only matched by their passion for sharing their expertise with others.

As we sat down to discuss their latest project, a custom-built Nissan GTR, it was clear that these two were more than just teammates – they're friends. "I'm used to being outside of the car and it's just screaming a red line," [Driver's Name] admitted, referencing the high-pitched whine of his engine. "It's like a brain rattler." Chelsea, on the other hand, has always been more laid-back, saying "I take it up to the fans come on and then basically wait till the fans go back off so we know everything's getting controlled."

But what really sets these two apart is their attention to detail. They're meticulous about every aspect of their cars, from the tires to the engine management system. In fact, [Driver's Name] spends a significant amount of time in the morning "just letting it warm up" and waiting for the fans to kick in before putting it through its paces. "We make sure it's in neutral, with a little bit of gas," he explained, emphasizing the importance of safety above all else.

As we talked, [Driver's Name] revealed that he'd been working on overcoming his fear of accidentally hitting the rev limiter – a phobia that had held him back for years. "I overcame my phobia and I definitely didn't hit it," he said with a grin, patting his car affectionately. Chelsea chimed in, saying "It's really easy to drive around like I could." The two drivers are clearly well-versed in the art of drifting, but they're also not afraid to poke fun at themselves.

One of the most interesting aspects of their partnership is how it affects their personal lives and other projects they've been working on. [Driver's Name] mentioned that he's always been a big Ford fan, while Chelsea has a soft spot for the Japanese marque. However, when it comes to his own cars, [Driver's Name] confessed that he's become more of a "big GTR guy" over time.

The Nissan GTR at the center of their discussion is no ordinary car – it's been a labor-of-love project that's been in the works for years. With its custom wide body and massive 315 tires, this beast of a machine is sure to turn heads on the track. "It's really nice driving," [Driver's Name] said, before Chelsea interjected with a laugh: "You're not gonna drift drip at 10 throttle, no that's not gonna happen it's really easy to drive around like I could." This banter has become a hallmark of their friendship, and we couldn't be more thrilled to see what the future holds for these two talented drivers.

As our conversation drew to a close, [Driver's Name] expressed his gratitude for the support of their fans and followers. "Your support such a huge reason why I've been able to get where I am," he said sincerely. Chelsea nodded in agreement, adding: "I'll never forget that." With their passion for drifting and racing at an all-time high, it's clear that these two are going to be a force to be reckoned with on the track for years to come.

But before we go, [Driver's Name] mentioned one last thing – he's excited to put his new skills to the test in tandem with Chelsea at the upcoming track day. "Tomorrow at the track and just have fun," he said with a smile, eyes shining with anticipation. This is going to be good.

In the end, it was clear that [Driver's Name] has overcome his fears and found confidence behind the wheel. He's always been someone who looks up to Chelsea as a mentor, but now they're teammates on and off the track. It's an opportunity of a lifetime for this young driver, one he's grateful for every day. With their passion, expertise, and infectious enthusiasm, we can't wait to see what these two talented drivers do next.

And that concludes our conversation with [Driver's Name] and Chelsea De Nave. Stay tuned for more articles on the world of drifting, racing, and all things automotive!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI know there's been a lot of speculation around the internet about what car I'm going to be driving next year before I get into that I just wanted to give a little bit of love a little reliable here this S15 I originally built with Juku racing and it was just supposed to be a fun demo car that quickly escalated once I learned that you know High Strung cars really only get driven together at the highest level of drifting which is Formula Drift this car has treated me well for three seasons and coming into this next season I decided it was time to do something a little bit different and in this video we're going to talk all about that and with much excitement I want to tell you guys I will be driving an s10c next year are you ready for it oh I didn't say it was a Nissan but technically it is an S chassis an S550 Mustang to be exact and I am excited to finally officially announce to you guys that I will be joining team RTR for next year a Formula Drift dude welcome to the party bro finally we can talk about this so glad I hate keeping secrets I know we kind of did a good job but then people started putting two to two together so we kind of had to throw some curved balls they certainly did but you guys are sharp you got some sharp peeps for sure if you guys don't already know Von Von getting Jr the owner of RTR Formula Drift Champion my mentor and uh now I guess what are you technically the team manager team owner everything but I'm uh my job is to support you and Chelsea and make sure that you and the team have what you need to achieve the goals and obviously one of your goals is to become an FD champion and so the process begins now there's a lot of stuff we got to talk about and that's what this video is for and we're gonna bring you guys behind the scenes of the lab and our whole thought process behind this huge decision for both of us all right before we get into too much Nitty Gritty I want to give you guys a super quick tour of this place we are at the RTR lab yeah this is uh this used to be Kenny Schrader's one of his facility so this is where all um the activation demo activities go and you'll see the difference of the FD area when we get there but OG Mustang it's a car won the 05 USA versus Japan and 2007 World Championship and kind of put me on the map if you will and I really want to do a comparison of current FD cars versus that FD cards that'd be neat quick question for you can I like I don't know how well known it is and a lot of people I always hear them making comments that think the demo cars are FD cards can I like talk about the differences between them so I'm gonna be getting a demo car right yes sick yep you will have a demo Mustang that you'll be driving with you know whether it's me and you doing grid life or me you and Chelsea are you and Chelsea we'll all have our own exhibition car and the goal of these cars right the FD cars are only for FD we don't use them for anything else right you know the deal you've been running on Fe program a lot of abuse a lot of time between rounds so these are toned down uh this is a coyote it's a Ford performance Illuminator with a Vortex supercharger um it has a t-56 magnum in it and a driveshaft shop for nine inch conversion so they're just toned down Drive trains but the same well similar chassis so like this car if we got in a shot in the race car you could pour everything out of this the chassis is exactly the same but the subframes are different so they drive a little bit different correct and then power wise I know the FD cars make an extra like four or 500 horsepower right correct yeah there's about 750 and FD cars about 12 1300 still not bad but still all the you know still the same look and feel right when we do demos or content still appears to be the same car right still same branding but this car is much more affordable yeah to run like these illuminators run forever and we don't have to ever change them so where the FD car needs a full rebuild you know expensive rebuild at the end of every year so and if you're not aware Vaughn did just recently announced that he's taking a step back from driving NFD and I just want to make it very clear I am not taking your role in the RTR team Chelsea is moving into your position on the FD team as I guess you would say the lead driver yep and then I'll be filling in the Chelsea's position as the noob or the rookie yeah exactly and I'm stepping back to be team owner just kind of assessed from outside and my vision is a couple years come back and we'll have a three-car effort that's that's the current plan subject to change like all things in life but that's where I'm at right now maybe Electric Maybe so this is where all of our prototyping development RTR vehicle builds go down uh that's a truck that just got back from SEMA that's the RTR fun Runner uh when we make you know a ton of Parts well molded plastic parts to fabricated metal full suspension uh this fiberglass you see what I see right my body yeah my colors on there huh yeah you see that little little uh little fade there yeah where'd you get that uh colors from huh yeah it'll fade all the way through maybe it's mine who knows who knows it's not oh I'd be kind of stoked we're not open to the public yet but this is basically like our showroom right so like our first ever production RTR first prototype which I gave to my son I actually gave it to my dad and my dad made me give it to my son this is uh rtrx Ford GT I thought you sold that it is going for sale the buyer got flaky and I just shut it down so talk to me nice I won't play got on it yeah you need oh you need a GT yeah I do you know that's what I'm talking to you let's talk about it let's talk about oh don't look at that so it could be yours the I gotta hide the uh you know the real FD car so we'll talk about that later okay um isn't is that gonna be like the chassis that we're gonna test on is that gonna be the chassis that I'll drive this is your car all right so you guys will see it in this video not in its official final form but uh we'll save that until later in the video yeah so r2r engineering we got two 3D printers all of our engineers in there and now we're in Fab area it's so cool being in these spaces that have like intentionally laid out for what we do yeah because like the first thing I ever saw was my compound and then I toured grios kind of has like a restoration facility over in California every time I come to one of these places I get so many ideas and like seeing just the intentionality of like where things are stored and how things are laid out yeah I never would have thought of it um but this is this is all my team right laying out how this all works man our previous shop was my smaller but very purposeful so this is a S550 chassis that's getting prepped this may actually become a demo car or actually become a spare because I think for the new demo car we're building we're using a chassis we already have that's been sitting as a spare so this will become a spare in the case you were Chelsea getting a shunt will be able to transition to a new chassis before the next FD round so we always have one of these on Deck what's the biggest thing that you guys like remove or cut out or modify in terms of weight oh it's really everything I mean Aaron would have to come over here and show you everything but here you can see the tunnels obviously cut out to fit what we need to fit in there obviously taking the roof off and really just prepping everything for light weighting but also for crash damage um so this is obviously where your fuel cell goes so they they do a ton of work they detab everything so yeah I wish we had another one you could see here but they take all the tabs off right lightweight you can do not stitch well these chassis are so rigid you don't need to stitch about them that says a lot of time yeah yeah do not need to be stitched well it's cool it comes raw just like this that's sick yeah this is exactly how it comes so this is basically what would go in the plant would get loaded on to like the first step and then it starts going through you know going through all the processes um can anybody buy one of these uh Ford used to have a body and white sales program I don't know if they do it anymore I know for s197s they did but I don't know if they do a press 550 anymore just saying it would be pretty cool just grab it and then you just get like a a crashed Scar and switch the parts over and there you go I know you could do a lot less work yeah they they sell for only race car yep only race car stuff so yeah fat bear we got a clean room here which is all for gearboxes transmission work I assume the engines aren't built in-house correct our engines are built down the road Ray run Ray runs and manages that program with uh Sandy Wilkins budget well I just found out I didn't know that this you guys don't paint these that these are basically how they come from Ford exactly that must save so much time and money it is as part of the time and and Livery design thought process to have black bumper so we have to paint them Every Time We Touch them because it's like every event you know and then when they get scratched you don't really notice it that much either that's not that bad so prep room and then we have two paint Bays here we have a full-time painter uh giphy who we just brought on he kills it how often can I expect to come here I know I got my next year's schedule I didn't see RTR lab trips on there yeah well because we usually meet at other events I mean you're more than welcome to come as much as you want but it's not we'll have a couple planning meetings but you know we have a really amazing team so like we plan things and then it all just gets executed and we normally I say we like myself and Chelsea Chelsea doesn't usually come here we usually just meet at events and get some time together at events if we need to sort anything but there's constant communication so there's not really a need to always come here but that being said we might have some fun you know some content fun just like we do it oh when I come and pick up the Ford GT there you go pick up your GT one of the first things I see pulling in look at how rad the outside of this building looks I know I like every time I drive down here I'm just like mind blowing that this is ours like this dream has earned this it's crazy we have a gate with a watchdog Watchmen barbed wire and then you have this beautiful sign and what's what's cool too a little fun fact that I've never really talked about in video Alan from Fifth Third Bank is the key person that helped me Finance the compound it's real difficult being a YouTuber and especially in the racing world too I know it can be tough to find anything and guess what guess who helped one at this place yeah and that's how I connected you with him because it's not often you find a bank that like understands our business and SEMA goes really easy for you too yeah Allen's a really rad dude shout out to Alan well yeah I met you early on in Pro 2 and I remember like being really pissed off because everybody was just like hating on you for no reason and like I just saw a really passionate guy that was good behind the wheel and everyone else for some reason I want to hate on you because your success elsewhere and that just really pissed me off and I also related to that because the same thing happened to me when I went into off-road and so I just naturally was just like you know I you know let you know hey well I'm here to help you out if I can help you in any way and I just remember you and I Hitting off pretty good and I remember you know inviting you to come play with me and Chelsea at Auto Enthusiast Day 2018 and that's really where I think we got to know each other and like the relationship started foreign I think the craziest thing about this experience is just the infrastructure that's required to run this having like someone get in the car every lap having people check tire pressure and fueling up the cars and it's it's really like takes a lot of effort to put this on so I'm very impressed I literally remember my first round of Pro 2 at Orlando I had never driven a track before when it starts to grip up from the rubber being way down on the track I remember you blowing my mind with the whole spacer thing oh yeah a little you said it's like an old dirt track trick putting spacers to keep the car looser on the banks and behind the scenes both on Chelsea the whole RTR team has helped our team so much it really feels like with all the events we've done been doing together like it already feels like family just because we're always hanging out pitting next to each other you guys are giving us advice on stuff and yeah I agree you know it's been fun like for me like I enjoy like seeing people achieve their goals and like I've told you I believe in you as a driver um and I've always just wanted to see you succeed because I see your fire and passion in your eyes and when you're doing it like um I just relate to it a lot and for me especially when people are hating on someone like I hate bullies yeah and so like I just wanted I knew you were going to prove everyone wrong and I know you don't think of it like that but I just hated it and I felt like you're such a great thing for our Sport and I felt like you're such like the perfect person to also help help drift get big and I wanted you to be successful as a whole for you like I saw you like even when we came out and you're just playing Auto enthusiasts day like you're analyticalness of like how you process and how you want to be the best that day at driving that car like I love that passion and so for me um we're watching you continue to progress and obviously us staying close and us helping you the little bit we have like it's just been fun to see it and aside from like my team doing well and I was doing great things for our partners this is something I'm able to cheer for you know I mean you going to your next level like there's so much to be learned and so much to be achieved and it's just going to be fun so many kind words it warms me up it's real man I know we've been talking about this I feel like for almost like two years now about the idea of me potentially driving a Mustang and I will say the biggest thing that was holding me back is I respected and looked up to you so much for what you've created with RTR and I wanted I wanted to do the same thing I wanted to build up my own team and I wanted to create that Foundation I thought it was so cool as a brand everything that you've accomplished with it and I think last year was a reality check for me that with eight rounds in a year they're just I have to be all in I can't be the influencer do all these other side projects and do FD on the side and be able to operate at the level of everyone else and build out infrastructure like you've built up build out a team like you built out I had great people backing me great sponsors I had a great car but I just personally don't have the time to create what you've created without being all in but I don't want to give up and I still want to continue driving and I want to drive at the best level I can and what better way to do it with the best team in drifting hands down the highest level team I don't think anyone can argue that with the highest level cars probably the most r d in drifting in my opinion it's smart of you to be thinking that way what we've built in 20 years you know and obviously it's not all just from being behind the wheel but and you're you know that right I mean you started kind of slightly backwards right like you didn't get into Motorsport and then start to build your profile you had to build profile and then you got into Motorsport but as you get into it you realize the infrastructure that it takes like if you're not doing it yourself which means you're every single day doing everything on your own and you don't have the time to create the value for for partners let alone live and have fun you're just you know going going and you know so for you to see that right and you had to be in the trenches I told you in 2018 you're going to want more time yeah but you had to get in the trenches and build this out and then see okay now I got here but I still want to get here and something you guys know too like this year was rough in terms of content it was not the year that I wanted it to be in terms of doing all the fun projects and stuff at home and I feel like we kind of got lost in the FD content you know I'm fortunate enough to have the same guys helping me on the FD team doing the projects at home but that kind of shot ourselves in the foot because we weren't able to really do anything big other than little stuff here and there between rounds and for me YouTube merchandise these other fun builds are what I enjoy the most and what make money FD doesn't make me money and this move for me I think everyone would want to know like a program like this the way that they typically work there's a understood amount an estimate a budgeted cost to operate a season and the goal is to have partners that can help back you and help cover some costs and I think look looking at it right now this move not only am I getting to drive I didn't even mention the teammate being my original drift Idol who got me into drifting is going to be my mentor coach and teammate having the best car the best team and I think I will be in a better financial position as well making this move I think it will cost me less so like for me it takes all the boxes I want a Podium I want to do the best I possibly can and with one of those RTR Mustangs I have no excuses well and that that's the goal is to you know free you up so you can focus on driving right you told me you want to become a championship caliber you want to win a championship right that's I mean that's your ultimate competitive I'm not giving I know you want it I think it's a realistic goal yeah and uh you know maybe not next year but I think within two years we're going to have you you know chasing that championship and it's because you know we have that infrastructure it's going to allow you to focus on the things that these guys enjoy the most what you love doing as well and uh it's just all gonna work we're gonna have a ton of fun together right I mean I'm not stopping drifting we're gonna do a ton of fun events create some fun content and you're gonna just progress exponentially as a driver with our processes and the people around you and it's going to be epic and I am just so you guys know not having any plans to stop vlogging by any means I'm gonna try to still cover FD the same way that I did behind the scenes and I'm excited like I said already getting to know some of the guys and like they've let me in on team meetings the engineering meetings that you guys do before the track like there's so much neat stuff that goes on behind the scenes I don't know how much of it I can share and how much of it will be top secret but I'm excited to bring you guys along for the ride and I hope you guys are too this is literally the opportunity of a lifetime and I think we talked about a little bit not before last season and for me then it was like I felt like I just touched the tip of the iceberg with the S15 and I was like I got a really cool thing going for me I love my guys I love my crew I want to see what we can do really going all in at this and like I said I just had never experienced a full season because before we had the condensed season with only four rounds in Pro on and with that it was true that like honestly I feel like if it wasn't for that condensed season I might not have made the move to Pro one originally because I was scared of an eight round series taking too much of my life trying to run my own program and have my own team yeah so makes sense I mean you're a very smart dude and you got you have to value your time effort and energy and you just took a ton of it off your plate and you still get to achieve that part of your life at the top level and you can continue to focus on the cool that you're already doing and I'm excited to be a part of it and continue to have fun with you we've done everything we've done has been epic fun and we're not stop laughing and enjoying it and can we show my car sure so technically I am getting your old FD chassis my last year FD chassis yep the one I won a championship in as well yep so it's a it's a blessed chassis all right let's do it I'll follow you all right can I show these rigs God that's crazy you got indoor rig parking it is kind of crazy but I know so that's the wash bay so they just come off the root from the trap all that Nitto rubber needed me to send tires here what is that about those are Maki demo tires I couldn't use any of those this guy had these pallet tires and send them for testing oh by the way uh we are going testing you guys won't see that till the next video so that will be in two days but uh I'm super excited it's gonna be I have driven technically his FD card before at osw but it was in the wrong gear on the center of the oval no nitrous but we're gonna have a full test session where uh I'm going to basically operate the car before it gets torn down with Chelsea get acclimated to it and have some fun which I know you guys pretty much never do right this is a first yeah we usually do one test a year um so because before the engines go get rebuilt we wanted to give you a couple days in the car just get comfortable and then we're gonna do one more pre-season test before Long Beach just to get you more acclimated get you feeling the car and I also don't want you thinking all off season about what it might be like I want you to know what it's gonna be like driving your head and be ready to kill so I'm uh you ready yeah I think I think it's time to show them the car now mind you guys this is not what my Livery will be next year this is just a quick Tesla video the guys threw together that I'm really stoked about I think I love it I think it hit the nail right on the head so behold my official first RCR monster as you can see they put a little bit of full air on it with a fade I am so stoked the bike on it and everything player and a bike rack of course I love it of course 2021 Ford Mustang RTR spec 5D ry45 455 cubic inches of Madness uh it's about 800 of the tire and then about 1200 of the tire on nitrous so plenty of power in there full race car build dry sump everything Regulators on everything but no more than what's needed in the engine bay obviously proper bash bars for fixing it very quickly if you ever get in a shot right you can see our kind of how we do our substructure so that you get into the first one and then we have the second one here um so Steel on the front aluminum and then hopefully you never get into this and that's how we save chassis forever is by using those those substructures you ready to do some Tangerine these things I mean I've been doing tandem in them for like five years now I met with another question for you yeah I'm ready I'm ready but I'm excited already I'm so I've been waiting for this man I can see the excitement in your face this is me behind the camera the whole time upside down yeah super special Chelsea Nova spec PCS there's actually RTR denofa snack collabo yeah two ways in the front three ways in the rear nice and simple interior we change your type S lights to Red love that goes well with it and then got a little bike is that just for uh it's for the shots that's for the shots that's for obviously we're gonna do your first time being seen driving this car later so we figured we'd that would be our first giveaway hit before we show you seems legit that's right yeah I dig it it'll be fine uh you can't get better feel than having a inline handbrake because with a dual caliper when you have a really sticky tire and Chassis setup it deflects the rotor a little bit and pushes the pads back and then you have to press or pull the handbrake to reset the pads so having only one set of calipers on there makes it so the pads are always like ready to go on the rotor so more resolution on the handbrake you don't lose the foot brake from knocking the pads back and it saves about 12 pounds so that's a big bonus for us four-speed dog box remember how to shoot the H pattern at them yeah I do I'm actually excited I just drove one recently in Colette's car and I actually like enjoyed it a lot more than I thought the first dog boxes I ever drove were not very good ones so it kind of ruined my pace for them and they were like like I think they're older side shifters and they just didn't feel so great and then I drove her car and I was like okay I get it well you only also have to shift forward and back ever because you don't ever use anything but fourth gear and do one shift per round for run well you will leave in second but once you're on the track right yeah you rarely ever go so never go back a second so start in second and then pretty much third fourth back to third if anything yep it's pretty cool yeah so they're like on track there's never any like side shifting so it's basically the same thing anyway makes sense why don't you let Adam know why we have a titanium one piece shift knob oh I heard about that you have two piece one on yours it's about two piece Chelsea needed one piece because he was breaking him he was blowing myself when I when I split second of anything and I've broken quite a few shifters a couple gas pedals do you have a spatula pedal in your car no spatula pedal in my car yo let's sit in this thing and see if you fit bro all right so we did test fit you and Irwindale and you asked for a slightly different seat so let's see how it feels I'll take your I'll take your camera I'll be your camera guy let's see dude there we go I do I'm gonna do a little drifting in the parking lot today right okay all right sure we'll do it she snug we gotta talk to Ray but I'm sure he'll let you do it he just he yelled at me said no more limiter that's right that's our ongoing joke the first time I drove Von's car Ray yelled at me because I was on the limiter too much because someone told me that I had I couldn't leave what was it third gear he's blaming it he's blaming it on me yeah you did say that yeah I did I did suggest it was third gear yeah because I thought fourth in the circle was too small so I'll take my fault but when you hear the limiter you can't also get off it now Ray hates me this is the view that I like here so you just hold this and one more so that you got your uh front tire tabs your rear tire Temps so you never have to guess when you're going out what you have and you can always be consistent does it feel comfy yeah Chelsea shifts this stuff so fast watching your in-car video you're like well you start in second right so it's just boom boom pretty much yeah he's just blowing the tires off every time you see that and it looks like you guys like short shift them and then kind of blow the tires off in third yeah he likes short shifts slingshot so then I blow the tires got it yeah but yeah put your reel on yeah feel that out you like your knees like that right now does that feel good I mean I kind of I kind of have to to be able to get the question I'll put the wheel on let's see how that looks then yeah my body is weird proportions you know mine is too I'm all I'm all torso I'm on a long legs I don't know if that's on all the way does that feel good to you yeah good night angles knees look at the height of the wheels slide that a break back a little bit if it's too far away from you yeah I mean the wheel might be a little bit close and the handbrake might be a little bit far but I mean for testing it'll be fine okay yeah I'm not super picky well you're gonna have to take time to get it right anyway so you might as well get it right like during the next day or two it takes zero effort like you can lock it with two fingers really yeah I love it so maybe it won't yep that's it that'll lock it only need two fingers sometimes that's all it takes wait Von who am I yep Chelsea Nova hey man I like to feel the CG dude he really does he literally like there's no way you can see over the hood I I can uh clearly I know and he still gets where he needs to we were we were joking about putting parking poles on the front for me so I know some little some little plastic guys right here that as you think yeah you feel it you know the deal you get connected and you just know where the the extension of the body is I mean we got a bumper budget so the problem is it's a big car and it's not super light but it drives small and super nice like it does everything in transitions like it weighs a thousand pounds less than it does I mean it makes sense because this is effectively the same weight if not a little bit lighter than my S15 with more power it's a loader that's 300 pounds lighter so it's probably a better weight distribution yeah good job Chelsea good looking out I was just like I know so that's it just that tight good skip like basically like we'll we'll do all the warm-up and everything for you so you just show up and sit in the car and go okay so so normally what we do first thing when we get to the track we'll change plugs first thing in the morning and then basically once we do that just understand make sure it's in neutral such a little bit of gas basically yeah when we when we're just letting it warm up we're like we never really let it get below like 2000 RPM and just keep it there and okay just you know wait till it basically all I do I take it up to the fans come on and then basically wait till the fans go back off so we know everything's getting controlled you know got it and with a little bit of gas yep your first startup bro quieter than I expected in the car some mbrp Mufflers I'm used to being outside of the car and it's just screaming a red line you can't hear anything do you have any air plugs so my helmet has pretty good ear cups do you think I'll need plugs though oh yeah really get some molds yeah on Colette's rotary is the loudest car I've ever driven and it's just pain yeah like well that's different that's a frequency problem got it that's like a brain Rattler yeah no literally that's that's a perfect way to describe it I did yes you're everything I got to check I'll send you her info that's what you want oh I need I want to do a seat mold that's something that I wanted to do how well how does that feel because you said that on the other seat this is the different seat I mean it's just with my back is your butt all the way against the back right now push your back all the way back now it is okay yeah I guess it's a little upright if I sit like that it's so high up in the car right now yeah like your head's gonna hit the game yeah we're going to lower it yeah I'm a big Ford guy now we got a big GTR guy over here what's going on with this thing this is a fun Haver GTR it's been a project that's been in the works for a couple years and now it's done look at this custom wide body on it what size are these tires they look massive 315s all the way around NCO ones God where'd you get those wheels from oh funny story about the wheels Miss Chelsea Chelsea's wife found them for us she was bow guarding them and she was about to buy them but then she let she let us buy them very easy to draw I'm trying to keep my cool on camera and get all the Talking that I need foreign and so it's also called making it easier so that everything is easier I promise you you'll never drift drip at 10 throttle no that's not gonna happen it's really easy to drive around like I could I this ain't gonna be so easier than some of my other cars to daily that's pretty good it's a really nice driving car yeah clutch feels great it's good we'll go do another burnout foreign I overcame my phobia of accidentally hitting the rev limiter and I definitely didn't hit it instead you drove like a I I know I've been hearing it from for the past 10 minutes it's just one words cannot describe how excited I am to go properly drift my future FD car tomorrow at the track and go just have fun in tandem with Chelsea and learn from the best this guys is the opportunity of a lifetime I've really enjoyed the Challenge from FD and now getting to be a part of such an insane high level team with people that I love and have a great time with I'm just so excited um and I do want to put out there even though I will be technically driving for a forward team it will not affect anything in terms of the other builds that I do or you know working on my two old 240s and fun being someone that I look up to so much guiding me through my journey in FD and having faith in me to step into this role and really just believing in me means so much I'm gonna make them proud I'm going to make you guys proud and I'm gonna have a lot of fun at the same time I'm excited for the future I hope you guys are too it's been so cool seeing all the people excited anticipating this move and if you guessed it if you had a feeling before it happened kudos to you I appreciate see you guys support more than anything and as you guys know or if you don't know you guys and your support such a huge reason why I've been able to get where I am and I'll never forget that so thank you and make sure you tune in on Friday to see me drift this thing this is going to be good when you saidI know there's been a lot of speculation around the internet about what car I'm going to be driving next year before I get into that I just wanted to give a little bit of love a little reliable here this S15 I originally built with Juku racing and it was just supposed to be a fun demo car that quickly escalated once I learned that you know High Strung cars really only get driven together at the highest level of drifting which is Formula Drift this car has treated me well for three seasons and coming into this next season I decided it was time to do something a little bit different and in this video we're going to talk all about that and with much excitement I want to tell you guys I will be driving an s10c next year are you ready for it oh I didn't say it was a Nissan but technically it is an S chassis an S550 Mustang to be exact and I am excited to finally officially announce to you guys that I will be joining team RTR for next year a Formula Drift dude welcome to the party bro finally we can talk about this so glad I hate keeping secrets I know we kind of did a good job but then people started putting two to two together so we kind of had to throw some curved balls they certainly did but you guys are sharp you got some sharp peeps for sure if you guys don't already know Von Von getting Jr the owner of RTR Formula Drift Champion my mentor and uh now I guess what are you technically the team manager team owner everything but I'm uh my job is to support you and Chelsea and make sure that you and the team have what you need to achieve the goals and obviously one of your goals is to become an FD champion and so the process begins now there's a lot of stuff we got to talk about and that's what this video is for and we're gonna bring you guys behind the scenes of the lab and our whole thought process behind this huge decision for both of us all right before we get into too much Nitty Gritty I want to give you guys a super quick tour of this place we are at the RTR lab yeah this is uh this used to be Kenny Schrader's one of his facility so this is where all um the activation demo activities go and you'll see the difference of the FD area when we get there but OG Mustang it's a car won the 05 USA versus Japan and 2007 World Championship and kind of put me on the map if you will and I really want to do a comparison of current FD cars versus that FD cards that'd be neat quick question for you can I like I don't know how well known it is and a lot of people I always hear them making comments that think the demo cars are FD cards can I like talk about the differences between them so I'm gonna be getting a demo car right yes sick yep you will have a demo Mustang that you'll be driving with you know whether it's me and you doing grid life or me you and Chelsea are you and Chelsea we'll all have our own exhibition car and the goal of these cars right the FD cars are only for FD we don't use them for anything else right you know the deal you've been running on Fe program a lot of abuse a lot of time between rounds so these are toned down uh this is a coyote it's a Ford performance Illuminator with a Vortex supercharger um it has a t-56 magnum in it and a driveshaft shop for nine inch conversion so they're just toned down Drive trains but the same well similar chassis so like this car if we got in a shot in the race car you could pour everything out of this the chassis is exactly the same but the subframes are different so they drive a little bit different correct and then power wise I know the FD cars make an extra like four or 500 horsepower right correct yeah there's about 750 and FD cars about 12 1300 still not bad but still all the you know still the same look and feel right when we do demos or content still appears to be the same car right still same branding but this car is much more affordable yeah to run like these illuminators run forever and we don't have to ever change them so where the FD car needs a full rebuild you know expensive rebuild at the end of every year so and if you're not aware Vaughn did just recently announced that he's taking a step back from driving NFD and I just want to make it very clear I am not taking your role in the RTR team Chelsea is moving into your position on the FD team as I guess you would say the lead driver yep and then I'll be filling in the Chelsea's position as the noob or the rookie yeah exactly and I'm stepping back to be team owner just kind of assessed from outside and my vision is a couple years come back and we'll have a three-car effort that's that's the current plan subject to change like all things in life but that's where I'm at right now maybe Electric Maybe so this is where all of our prototyping development RTR vehicle builds go down uh that's a truck that just got back from SEMA that's the RTR fun Runner uh when we make you know a ton of Parts well molded plastic parts to fabricated metal full suspension uh this fiberglass you see what I see right my body yeah my colors on there huh yeah you see that little little uh little fade there yeah where'd you get that uh colors from huh yeah it'll fade all the way through maybe it's mine who knows who knows it's not oh I'd be kind of stoked we're not open to the public yet but this is basically like our showroom right so like our first ever production RTR first prototype which I gave to my son I actually gave it to my dad and my dad made me give it to my son this is uh rtrx Ford GT I thought you sold that it is going for sale the buyer got flaky and I just shut it down so talk to me nice I won't play got on it yeah you need oh you need a GT yeah I do you know that's what I'm talking to you let's talk about it let's talk about oh don't look at that so it could be yours the I gotta hide the uh you know the real FD car so we'll talk about that later okay um isn't is that gonna be like the chassis that we're gonna test on is that gonna be the chassis that I'll drive this is your car all right so you guys will see it in this video not in its official final form but uh we'll save that until later in the video yeah so r2r engineering we got two 3D printers all of our engineers in there and now we're in Fab area it's so cool being in these spaces that have like intentionally laid out for what we do yeah because like the first thing I ever saw was my compound and then I toured grios kind of has like a restoration facility over in California every time I come to one of these places I get so many ideas and like seeing just the intentionality of like where things are stored and how things are laid out yeah I never would have thought of it um but this is this is all my team right laying out how this all works man our previous shop was my smaller but very purposeful so this is a S550 chassis that's getting prepped this may actually become a demo car or actually become a spare because I think for the new demo car we're building we're using a chassis we already have that's been sitting as a spare so this will become a spare in the case you were Chelsea getting a shunt will be able to transition to a new chassis before the next FD round so we always have one of these on Deck what's the biggest thing that you guys like remove or cut out or modify in terms of weight oh it's really everything I mean Aaron would have to come over here and show you everything but here you can see the tunnels obviously cut out to fit what we need to fit in there obviously taking the roof off and really just prepping everything for light weighting but also for crash damage um so this is obviously where your fuel cell goes so they they do a ton of work they detab everything so yeah I wish we had another one you could see here but they take all the tabs off right lightweight you can do not stitch well these chassis are so rigid you don't need to stitch about them that says a lot of time yeah yeah do not need to be stitched well it's cool it comes raw just like this that's sick yeah this is exactly how it comes so this is basically what would go in the plant would get loaded on to like the first step and then it starts going through you know going through all the processes um can anybody buy one of these uh Ford used to have a body and white sales program I don't know if they do it anymore I know for s197s they did but I don't know if they do a press 550 anymore just saying it would be pretty cool just grab it and then you just get like a a crashed Scar and switch the parts over and there you go I know you could do a lot less work yeah they they sell for only race car yep only race car stuff so yeah fat bear we got a clean room here which is all for gearboxes transmission work I assume the engines aren't built in-house correct our engines are built down the road Ray run Ray runs and manages that program with uh Sandy Wilkins budget well I just found out I didn't know that this you guys don't paint these that these are basically how they come from Ford exactly that must save so much time and money it is as part of the time and and Livery design thought process to have black bumper so we have to paint them Every Time We Touch them because it's like every event you know and then when they get scratched you don't really notice it that much either that's not that bad so prep room and then we have two paint Bays here we have a full-time painter uh giphy who we just brought on he kills it how often can I expect to come here I know I got my next year's schedule I didn't see RTR lab trips on there yeah well because we usually meet at other events I mean you're more than welcome to come as much as you want but it's not we'll have a couple planning meetings but you know we have a really amazing team so like we plan things and then it all just gets executed and we normally I say we like myself and Chelsea Chelsea doesn't usually come here we usually just meet at events and get some time together at events if we need to sort anything but there's constant communication so there's not really a need to always come here but that being said we might have some fun you know some content fun just like we do it oh when I come and pick up the Ford GT there you go pick up your GT one of the first things I see pulling in look at how rad the outside of this building looks I know I like every time I drive down here I'm just like mind blowing that this is ours like this dream has earned this it's crazy we have a gate with a watchdog Watchmen barbed wire and then you have this beautiful sign and what's what's cool too a little fun fact that I've never really talked about in video Alan from Fifth Third Bank is the key person that helped me Finance the compound it's real difficult being a YouTuber and especially in the racing world too I know it can be tough to find anything and guess what guess who helped one at this place yeah and that's how I connected you with him because it's not often you find a bank that like understands our business and SEMA goes really easy for you too yeah Allen's a really rad dude shout out to Alan well yeah I met you early on in Pro 2 and I remember like being really pissed off because everybody was just like hating on you for no reason and like I just saw a really passionate guy that was good behind the wheel and everyone else for some reason I want to hate on you because your success elsewhere and that just really pissed me off and I also related to that because the same thing happened to me when I went into off-road and so I just naturally was just like you know I you know let you know hey well I'm here to help you out if I can help you in any way and I just remember you and I Hitting off pretty good and I remember you know inviting you to come play with me and Chelsea at Auto Enthusiast Day 2018 and that's really where I think we got to know each other and like the relationship started foreign I think the craziest thing about this experience is just the infrastructure that's required to run this having like someone get in the car every lap having people check tire pressure and fueling up the cars and it's it's really like takes a lot of effort to put this on so I'm very impressed I literally remember my first round of Pro 2 at Orlando I had never driven a track before when it starts to grip up from the rubber being way down on the track I remember you blowing my mind with the whole spacer thing oh yeah a little you said it's like an old dirt track trick putting spacers to keep the car looser on the banks and behind the scenes both on Chelsea the whole RTR team has helped our team so much it really feels like with all the events we've done been doing together like it already feels like family just because we're always hanging out pitting next to each other you guys are giving us advice on stuff and yeah I agree you know it's been fun like for me like I enjoy like seeing people achieve their goals and like I've told you I believe in you as a driver um and I've always just wanted to see you succeed because I see your fire and passion in your eyes and when you're doing it like um I just relate to it a lot and for me especially when people are hating on someone like I hate bullies yeah and so like I just wanted I knew you were going to prove everyone wrong and I know you don't think of it like that but I just hated it and I felt like you're such a great thing for our Sport and I felt like you're such like the perfect person to also help help drift get big and I wanted you to be successful as a whole for you like I saw you like even when we came out and you're just playing Auto enthusiasts day like you're analyticalness of like how you process and how you want to be the best that day at driving that car like I love that passion and so for me um we're watching you continue to progress and obviously us staying close and us helping you the little bit we have like it's just been fun to see it and aside from like my team doing well and I was doing great things for our partners this is something I'm able to cheer for you know I mean you going to your next level like there's so much to be learned and so much to be achieved and it's just going to be fun so many kind words it warms me up it's real man I know we've been talking about this I feel like for almost like two years now about the idea of me potentially driving a Mustang and I will say the biggest thing that was holding me back is I respected and looked up to you so much for what you've created with RTR and I wanted I wanted to do the same thing I wanted to build up my own team and I wanted to create that Foundation I thought it was so cool as a brand everything that you've accomplished with it and I think last year was a reality check for me that with eight rounds in a year they're just I have to be all in I can't be the influencer do all these other side projects and do FD on the side and be able to operate at the level of everyone else and build out infrastructure like you've built up build out a team like you built out I had great people backing me great sponsors I had a great car but I just personally don't have the time to create what you've created without being all in but I don't want to give up and I still want to continue driving and I want to drive at the best level I can and what better way to do it with the best team in drifting hands down the highest level team I don't think anyone can argue that with the highest level cars probably the most r d in drifting in my opinion it's smart of you to be thinking that way what we've built in 20 years you know and obviously it's not all just from being behind the wheel but and you're you know that right I mean you started kind of slightly backwards right like you didn't get into Motorsport and then start to build your profile you had to build profile and then you got into Motorsport but as you get into it you realize the infrastructure that it takes like if you're not doing it yourself which means you're every single day doing everything on your own and you don't have the time to create the value for for partners let alone live and have fun you're just you know going going and you know so for you to see that right and you had to be in the trenches I told you in 2018 you're going to want more time yeah but you had to get in the trenches and build this out and then see okay now I got here but I still want to get here and something you guys know too like this year was rough in terms of content it was not the year that I wanted it to be in terms of doing all the fun projects and stuff at home and I feel like we kind of got lost in the FD content you know I'm fortunate enough to have the same guys helping me on the FD team doing the projects at home but that kind of shot ourselves in the foot because we weren't able to really do anything big other than little stuff here and there between rounds and for me YouTube merchandise these other fun builds are what I enjoy the most and what make money FD doesn't make me money and this move for me I think everyone would want to know like a program like this the way that they typically work there's a understood amount an estimate a budgeted cost to operate a season and the goal is to have partners that can help back you and help cover some costs and I think look looking at it right now this move not only am I getting to drive I didn't even mention the teammate being my original drift Idol who got me into drifting is going to be my mentor coach and teammate having the best car the best team and I think I will be in a better financial position as well making this move I think it will cost me less so like for me it takes all the boxes I want a Podium I want to do the best I possibly can and with one of those RTR Mustangs I have no excuses well and that that's the goal is to you know free you up so you can focus on driving right you told me you want to become a championship caliber you want to win a championship right that's I mean that's your ultimate competitive I'm not giving I know you want it I think it's a realistic goal yeah and uh you know maybe not next year but I think within two years we're going to have you you know chasing that championship and it's because you know we have that infrastructure it's going to allow you to focus on the things that these guys enjoy the most what you love doing as well and uh it's just all gonna work we're gonna have a ton of fun together right I mean I'm not stopping drifting we're gonna do a ton of fun events create some fun content and you're gonna just progress exponentially as a driver with our processes and the people around you and it's going to be epic and I am just so you guys know not having any plans to stop vlogging by any means I'm gonna try to still cover FD the same way that I did behind the scenes and I'm excited like I said already getting to know some of the guys and like they've let me in on team meetings the engineering meetings that you guys do before the track like there's so much neat stuff that goes on behind the scenes I don't know how much of it I can share and how much of it will be top secret but I'm excited to bring you guys along for the ride and I hope you guys are too this is literally the opportunity of a lifetime and I think we talked about a little bit not before last season and for me then it was like I felt like I just touched the tip of the iceberg with the S15 and I was like I got a really cool thing going for me I love my guys I love my crew I want to see what we can do really going all in at this and like I said I just had never experienced a full season because before we had the condensed season with only four rounds in Pro on and with that it was true that like honestly I feel like if it wasn't for that condensed season I might not have made the move to Pro one originally because I was scared of an eight round series taking too much of my life trying to run my own program and have my own team yeah so makes sense I mean you're a very smart dude and you got you have to value your time effort and energy and you just took a ton of it off your plate and you still get to achieve that part of your life at the top level and you can continue to focus on the cool that you're already doing and I'm excited to be a part of it and continue to have fun with you we've done everything we've done has been epic fun and we're not stop laughing and enjoying it and can we show my car sure so technically I am getting your old FD chassis my last year FD chassis yep the one I won a championship in as well yep so it's a it's a blessed chassis all right let's do it I'll follow you all right can I show these rigs God that's crazy you got indoor rig parking it is kind of crazy but I know so that's the wash bay so they just come off the root from the trap all that Nitto rubber needed me to send tires here what is that about those are Maki demo tires I couldn't use any of those this guy had these pallet tires and send them for testing oh by the way uh we are going testing you guys won't see that till the next video so that will be in two days but uh I'm super excited it's gonna be I have driven technically his FD card before at osw but it was in the wrong gear on the center of the oval no nitrous but we're gonna have a full test session where uh I'm going to basically operate the car before it gets torn down with Chelsea get acclimated to it and have some fun which I know you guys pretty much never do right this is a first yeah we usually do one test a year um so because before the engines go get rebuilt we wanted to give you a couple days in the car just get comfortable and then we're gonna do one more pre-season test before Long Beach just to get you more acclimated get you feeling the car and I also don't want you thinking all off season about what it might be like I want you to know what it's gonna be like driving your head and be ready to kill so I'm uh you ready yeah I think I think it's time to show them the car now mind you guys this is not what my Livery will be next year this is just a quick Tesla video the guys threw together that I'm really stoked about I think I love it I think it hit the nail right on the head so behold my official first RCR monster as you can see they put a little bit of full air on it with a fade I am so stoked the bike on it and everything player and a bike rack of course I love it of course 2021 Ford Mustang RTR spec 5D ry45 455 cubic inches of Madness uh it's about 800 of the tire and then about 1200 of the tire on nitrous so plenty of power in there full race car build dry sump everything Regulators on everything but no more than what's needed in the engine bay obviously proper bash bars for fixing it very quickly if you ever get in a shot right you can see our kind of how we do our substructure so that you get into the first one and then we have the second one here um so Steel on the front aluminum and then hopefully you never get into this and that's how we save chassis forever is by using those those substructures you ready to do some Tangerine these things I mean I've been doing tandem in them for like five years now I met with another question for you yeah I'm ready I'm ready but I'm excited already I'm so I've been waiting for this man I can see the excitement in your face this is me behind the camera the whole time upside down yeah super special Chelsea Nova spec PCS there's actually RTR denofa snack collabo yeah two ways in the front three ways in the rear nice and simple interior we change your type S lights to Red love that goes well with it and then got a little bike is that just for uh it's for the shots that's for the shots that's for obviously we're gonna do your first time being seen driving this car later so we figured we'd that would be our first giveaway hit before we show you seems legit that's right yeah I dig it it'll be fine uh you can't get better feel than having a inline handbrake because with a dual caliper when you have a really sticky tire and Chassis setup it deflects the rotor a little bit and pushes the pads back and then you have to press or pull the handbrake to reset the pads so having only one set of calipers on there makes it so the pads are always like ready to go on the rotor so more resolution on the handbrake you don't lose the foot brake from knocking the pads back and it saves about 12 pounds so that's a big bonus for us four-speed dog box remember how to shoot the H pattern at them yeah I do I'm actually excited I just drove one recently in Colette's car and I actually like enjoyed it a lot more than I thought the first dog boxes I ever drove were not very good ones so it kind of ruined my pace for them and they were like like I think they're older side shifters and they just didn't feel so great and then I drove her car and I was like okay I get it well you only also have to shift forward and back ever because you don't ever use anything but fourth gear and do one shift per round for run well you will leave in second but once you're on the track right yeah you rarely ever go so never go back a second so start in second and then pretty much third fourth back to third if anything yep it's pretty cool yeah so they're like on track there's never any like side shifting so it's basically the same thing anyway makes sense why don't you let Adam know why we have a titanium one piece shift knob oh I heard about that you have two piece one on yours it's about two piece Chelsea needed one piece because he was breaking him he was blowing myself when I when I split second of anything and I've broken quite a few shifters a couple gas pedals do you have a spatula pedal in your car no spatula pedal in my car yo let's sit in this thing and see if you fit bro all right so we did test fit you and Irwindale and you asked for a slightly different seat so let's see how it feels I'll take your I'll take your camera I'll be your camera guy let's see dude there we go I do I'm gonna do a little drifting in the parking lot today right okay all right sure we'll do it she snug we gotta talk to Ray but I'm sure he'll let you do it he just he yelled at me said no more limiter that's right that's our ongoing joke the first time I drove Von's car Ray yelled at me because I was on the limiter too much because someone told me that I had I couldn't leave what was it third gear he's blaming it he's blaming it on me yeah you did say that yeah I did I did suggest it was third gear yeah because I thought fourth in the circle was too small so I'll take my fault but when you hear the limiter you can't also get off it now Ray hates me this is the view that I like here so you just hold this and one more so that you got your uh front tire tabs your rear tire Temps so you never have to guess when you're going out what you have and you can always be consistent does it feel comfy yeah Chelsea shifts this stuff so fast watching your in-car video you're like well you start in second right so it's just boom boom pretty much yeah he's just blowing the tires off every time you see that and it looks like you guys like short shift them and then kind of blow the tires off in third yeah he likes short shifts slingshot so then I blow the tires got it yeah but yeah put your reel on yeah feel that out you like your knees like that right now does that feel good I mean I kind of I kind of have to to be able to get the question I'll put the wheel on let's see how that looks then yeah my body is weird proportions you know mine is too I'm all I'm all torso I'm on a long legs I don't know if that's on all the way does that feel good to you yeah good night angles knees look at the height of the wheels slide that a break back a little bit if it's too far away from you yeah I mean the wheel might be a little bit close and the handbrake might be a little bit far but I mean for testing it'll be fine okay yeah I'm not super picky well you're gonna have to take time to get it right anyway so you might as well get it right like during the next day or two it takes zero effort like you can lock it with two fingers really yeah I love it so maybe it won't yep that's it that'll lock it only need two fingers sometimes that's all it takes wait Von who am I yep Chelsea Nova hey man I like to feel the CG dude he really does he literally like there's no way you can see over the hood I I can uh clearly I know and he still gets where he needs to we were we were joking about putting parking poles on the front for me so I know some little some little plastic guys right here that as you think yeah you feel it you know the deal you get connected and you just know where the the extension of the body is I mean we got a bumper budget so the problem is it's a big car and it's not super light but it drives small and super nice like it does everything in transitions like it weighs a thousand pounds less than it does I mean it makes sense because this is effectively the same weight if not a little bit lighter than my S15 with more power it's a loader that's 300 pounds lighter so it's probably a better weight distribution yeah good job Chelsea good looking out I was just like I know so that's it just that tight good skip like basically like we'll we'll do all the warm-up and everything for you so you just show up and sit in the car and go okay so so normally what we do first thing when we get to the track we'll change plugs first thing in the morning and then basically once we do that just understand make sure it's in neutral such a little bit of gas basically yeah when we when we're just letting it warm up we're like we never really let it get below like 2000 RPM and just keep it there and okay just you know wait till it basically all I do I take it up to the fans come on and then basically wait till the fans go back off so we know everything's getting controlled you know got it and with a little bit of gas yep your first startup bro quieter than I expected in the car some mbrp Mufflers I'm used to being outside of the car and it's just screaming a red line you can't hear anything do you have any air plugs so my helmet has pretty good ear cups do you think I'll need plugs though oh yeah really get some molds yeah on Colette's rotary is the loudest car I've ever driven and it's just pain yeah like well that's different that's a frequency problem got it that's like a brain Rattler yeah no literally that's that's a perfect way to describe it I did yes you're everything I got to check I'll send you her info that's what you want oh I need I want to do a seat
