iOS 14 beta 5 - Top Features_Changes - Hybrid time picker!

A Brief Look at iOS 14 Beta 5: New Features and Changes

In this video, we'll take a closer look at what's new and changed in iOS 14 beta 5. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a hidden album toggle within the Photos Settings. This new feature hides the Hidden folder, making it more difficult to find. Under the Albums tab, you no longer see that Hidden folder at all. This change doesn't add any security but makes it more obscure.

Another exciting new feature in iOS 14 beta 5 is the hybrid time picker. This allows users to manually type in the time using the keypad, which is new for iOS 14. Notice how you can scroll and use your picker just like you could before in iOS 13. You also get that really nice haptic feedback as well. This is a great solution that combines the best of both worlds from iOS 13 and iOS 14.

In addition to these changes, there's an extra large news widget in beta 5. Previously, you had all these widgets, but if you scrolled over to the very last one, you'd notice a supersized news widget that actually wouldn't fit on the home screen. It only works in the Today view of the widget center. If you want this supersize news widget with all the trending topics, simply add it to the widget center, and it appears like that.

The new feature also allows widgets permission to use your location for up to 15 minutes after being viewed. This allows the widget to stay up to date. When going into the Location Services preferences under Privacy and Settings, you'll notice a new while using the app or widgets option. In previous beta, we received a dedicated exposure notifications preference panel within the Settings app. Now, in this beta, you get a new Availability Alerts toggle, which will allow you to receive a notification if exposure notifications become available in your current location.

There's also a new onboarding interface that allows users to not only learn about exposure notifications but also designate where they are to see if those are available in their particular region. You can scroll down here and just choose a state at random, such as choosing United States or California, which won't be exposed notification areas. This tells you so.

The Shortcuts app has received several new glyph options to customize the look of your shortcuts. Not only can you change the color but now there's a lot more new glyphs added to the mix here. With these added glyph options, you can really brand your shortcut appropriate to its function. Although the airplay icon doesn't really have any bearing on this particular shortcut, you have plenty more to choose from to get it just right.

Another notable feature in iOS 14 beta 5 is a new splash screen for the Shortcuts app to help users learn what's all new. If you're a big fan of shortcuts, you'll appreciate these new additions. You can now really customize the look and feel of your shortcuts with the added glyph options.

In the Music app, you'll notice that the background colors are more responsive to change. The background color is now quicker to complement the album artwork in this latest beta 5. I love this feature; I think the Music app is so great in iOS 14.

One minor but notable change in beta five is that folders are a little bit more narrow here in iOS 14, beta five. In beta five, when you have screen time restrictions for a certain application, you'll notice that its corresponding widget will also be restricted. I'm going to set up a limit here for the news app and browse the news here.

After some time goes by, and screen time shuts me down, you'll notice that not only is the app itself locked down but also the widget is locked down as well. You can see right there; the time limit has reached your limit on news. Ladies and gentlemen, that was a brief look at iOS 14 beta five, which one is your favorite new feature change?
