Barra GT350 - Pulled Over Testing PPG Sequential’s No Lift Shift

The Art of Shifting: A Hands-On Guide to Mastering the Gearbox

As we sat down to tackle the gearbox, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The car's performance was impressive, but there were some issues that needed to be addressed. Our first task was to try and pull the reverse cable too hard, which had caused the shifters to come loose. This seemed like an easy fix, but as we soon discovered, it was only the beginning of our problems.

The first thing we noticed was how difficult it was to engage first gear. We were expecting a smooth transition, but instead, the car refused to budge. It wasn't until I pulled the reverse cable out that we realized the true extent of the problem. The shifters were now coming loose again, and we couldn't seem to get them to stay on. This was frustrating, to say the least, and we knew we needed to find a solution quickly.

We decided to try a different approach by shifting into neutral and then back into first gear. We also added 50 throttle to see if that would help us engage the gears more smoothly. As we shifted through the gears, it became clear that the problem was not just with the reverse cable, but with the transmission itself. The gears were not engaging as smoothly as they should be, and we could feel a slight resistance when shifting.

To overcome this, we decided to try pulling harder on the throttle. We wanted to see if by giving the engine more boost, we could help the transmission engage the gears more smoothly. As we pulled harder, it became clear that this was not just about speed, but also about finesse. We needed to find a balance between giving the engine enough power and not overloading the transmission.

One of the most surprising discoveries we made during our testing was how much more responsive the car became when shifting into high gear. It was like the difference between night and day. The car felt fast, smooth, and incredibly agile. We were amazed at how quickly it could accelerate and decelerate, and how effortlessly it seemed to shift through the gears.

However, as we delved deeper into the problem, we began to realize that there might be an issue with the internal slave or possibly some installation error with the clutch. The car was stalling when I shifted into first gear, and we couldn't seem to get it to engage properly. This was worrying, as we didn't want to risk damaging the transmission further.

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to solve the problem, and we ultimately decided to pull the transmission apart while it was still salvageable. We knew this was a last resort, but we couldn't afford to take any more risks. As we looked back on our journey, we realized that mastering the gearbox was not just about shifting through the gears, but also about understanding the intricacies of the transmission.

The experience had been enlightening, and we were grateful for the opportunity to learn so much about the car's performance. We knew that there would be more challenges ahead, but we were confident that with patience, persistence, and a willingness to learn, we could overcome any obstacle. And as we looked at the car, now stripped down to its bare essentials, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. We had faced the unknown and come out on top.

The Future of Shifting: One Finger Transmission

As we sat back and reflected on our journey, I couldn't help but think about the future of shifting. The one finger transmission was an incredible innovation that had transformed the way we drove. It was like a whole new world had opened up, where speed and agility were no longer just limited by the gearbox.

But as we looked closer at the car's performance, we realized that there was still room for improvement. We could feel the engine responding to our input, but there were moments when it felt like the transmission was lagging behind. This was frustrating, as we knew that with a little more fine-tuning, we could unlock even greater speeds and performance.

One of the most interesting aspects of the one finger transmission was how it changed the way we drove. With no clutch pedal to worry about, drivers were free to focus on shifting through the gears without any distractions. It was like a whole new level of driving experience, where speed and agility were no longer limited by mechanical constraints.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enuh what's up guys welcome to today's video uh we're starting off in the gt3 it's kind of been like my weekly thing i've been taking this thing on fridays especially when the weather's nice it does kind of stink like this car is probably one of my favorite cars in the world to drive but my commute is literally just stop lights i know i've talked about this in videos before but it kills me to see this thing sitting in the garage but it also kills me just driving from stop light to stop light i wish i had some curvy roads around here or i wish i had like a regular track thing going um but nonetheless one thing that i kind of want to talk about in the beginning in this video was the idea of selling this car because it's something that i go back and forth about and kind of struggle with and i'm kind of curious what you guys think so my logic is telling me you know the typical gt3 owner move is to sell your current generation gt3 or s considering if you got it at msrp you can usually get close to what you paid for it after driving around for two or three years and putting on 10 000 miles then you move into the next one the next one the next one it's never really a losing game you spend maybe five to twenty thousand dollars keep moving into the newest generation gt3 rs initially that was my plan i got a phenomenal price on this car to where i could do that especially my brand is telling me to do it now because the fact that the new car isn't out yet the market for these is still really high and i can get some good money for it however i'm kind of torn because i feel like it's going to be one of those things where if i get rid of this car i'm going to hunt for the rest of my life to find it back because just like the 335 was a huge milestone goal that was really special to me kind of in my automotive journey i feel like this car is also just as big and it's hard for me to decide internally if it's worth just keeping this car and potentially not getting the newest generation gt3 rs or getting rid of it moving on and just accepting that i need to not be so nostalgic with everything that i own so and i'm just kind of curious more or less you know i don't want you guys to make a decision for me but i thought it'd be a cool little point to have a discussion about because it is kind of you know it's a game in the porsche world and who knows too maybe i own this car for 10 years and it does have the same value that it has now but i don't know in my mind i feel like that ship is kind of sailed with the older air-cooled stuff and you know the last of the manual rs's i don't know that this car is special enough to hold its value for 10 years you know it's a super exciting day today i just got to the shop and we're going to be setting up the whole entire no-lift shift stuff we're going to be putting smaller 17-inch wheels of the big fat drag tire in the mustang but before we go inside i want to take a second and give a massive shout out to one of my sponsors ring they've been a sponsor of the channel for a long time and they make some really cool products that are great for your home security i don't know about you guys but i'm getting more deliveries than ever we don't really find ourselves shopping that much in person and that's a great example of why it's the perfect time to upgrade your home with a video doorbell from ring so if you want to be able to keep an eye on what's going on your doorstep whether you're home or not at home you can log out of the app see and speak to whoever's at your doorstep if you have to give delivery instructions if you've got a surprise visitor when you're not home it comes in handy for a lot of stuff even if they don't ring the doorbell you got motion detection that will alert you on your phone and you can see what's going on they also have a bunch of really good wired and wireless security cameras that we use often around the shop i can go on the app click through any specific camera and either go live and talk to what's going on at the shop or i can scan through specific events and see who's at the shop what's going on with cars their video doorbell and their cameras are super easy to mount and you'll be surprised with how quick and easy it is to install yourself so as always i've got a special offer for you guys go to ring.com lz and you'll have a special offer on the ring welcome kit that comes with a ring video doorbell 3 and a chime pro which is a perfect way to dial in your front door and start your ring experience once again this is ring.com lz get your special offer and i'd like to give a massive thank you to ring for sponsoring this video now let's go in the shop all right so i'm up in the car figuring out the shift boost situation just kind of i'm changing length a little bit to get a shifter in a position that's a little bit more straight up and down while i'm doing that yohan and marco are tag teaming the rear knuckle swap so we can put the bigger sidewall tires on so they'll kind of walk you through doing that i'm just trimming some interior stuff nothing really major up here and then it should be a car again i'm really bummed to get rid of the brembos i'm like holding on to dear life to the ones in the sun even though the car drives like crap having such a wide track with and like is gonna look stupid with 19's in the front it sucks to ditch factory brembos for the worse more inferior brakes um but i think the car will just drive a lot better and more confidence inspiring if you can actually put the traction down because these you can only fit like a 19 or like a custom 18 on the rear so it's actually very common thing for the drag guys to go down to a 17 with mustang gt brakes so i'm over here playing with hot glue i didn't like i had to cut the shift poop but one of the issues whenever you cut them and they into they tend to start splitting on the scene so i took it and i kind of folded it over and then i layered a little round of hot glue in there so hopefully it'll stay looking nice so this will fit perfectly over the sequential i can have the cable going up for the reverse lockout and then it should look oem plus so it's a boy i'm excited i know it looks like i'm lifting with my back but it's actually not i like put my elbow up against my knee and then i use my legs to lift it yeah i love using your back john listen we need to get different lug nuts because the stock one's a little bit too big for these wheels they're nothing fancy it was the cheapest ones i could find on the internets just to hold us by until i can custom order some sick stuffs no not the lug nuts the wheels sean this guy these will be our first test runs with the flat shift oh good all right it worked i think i have to pull it harder than i remember i wonder if i wonder why punch is shifting first okay that's a real boy it's um it's pretty good yeah we're getting pulled over we can just explain i'll call you we're actually testing a new transmission in the car and i just wasn't paying attention like just literally put a sequential transmission in it yeah so we were just testing some settings with no clutch and i wasn't paying attention so my apologies well that might be the first time i've gotten a ticket on video we were doing 70 in a 45 and i'll i'll be dead honest with you guys like i'll be i'd be straight up with you if i thought that i was speeding or if i actually felt like i was going that speed i looked at my speedo when the cop came up behind us and it said 60 miles an hour so either he inflated the number or potentially maybe the overall diameter of the wheels with the drag tires are a little bit taller but like to add 10 miles an hour is kind of a lot it's unfortunate but it happens i just got lost in the sauce man i know i got so excited dude what a way to kill my phone i've been waiting for this moment patiently for seven millenniums so it is now day two um we're actually going to head over to the track and do a little bit of testing there um just because there's been a lot of traffic around lately and we want to play safe but i put the whole interior together look how good it looks with all the trim and everything in there looks legit as heck so pull this thing out there might be enough room on the skid pad to get into second gear let's find out a second let me i couldn't tell if we were spinning or not here now i don't think you're spinning this thing makes like no boost in first about 12 pounds cool sounding backfire yeah i think i launched it a little too hard i'm gonna try rolling into it a little more let's go down a little bit lower in the boost i was about like nine pounds up to 15. so i lured it by five percent okay it still spun a little bit but i kind of let it bounce off limiter for a second which i know these engines don't like all right so let's go ahead and uh let's go back so i can set up a boost by gear i think table backfire was just from hitting limiter is that a trigger no there's no air there's no codes either you hit limiter or like when you pulled it oh yeah it pulled the timing out of it did you do something the throttle i might have been me letting off i might have pushed this forward a little bit it's hard to tell felt a little long on the cut there sucks but they can't wind it out you know you wanna do a one two i can let me try once more with like making sure i don't push it forward or maybe just work pull back ready we'll try one two on this surface that's pretty good i want to try one different setting okay i'll try uh one two again like not releasing like the strain gauge needs to be more sensitive all right i think that would help can you do that yeah you drop the string gauge yeah i'm gonna practice without shifting just to see how far i need to do it yeah that was better it's making the cool pops now did you do that i changed some settings too like the lower gears it's like you have to pull harder than the higher gears you don't yeah the lower the gear you harder you have to pull i'll try pulling it hard i think there's just so much load yeah wow that felt cool yeah i want to did you not pull hard enough for a two-three i think so this drain gauge is good it's just like not unloading it enough maybe it needs to unlike load it a little bit longer for the one two and two three can you do that yeah if you wanna go back i'll change that yeah you ready feels like it's taking too long now maybe because i'm shifting earlier and not at red line where it's like already kind of unloading itself i could also just try shifting at redline and it might be a lot easier because it'll unload itself naturally yeah should i try shifting that red line i didn't pull hard enough for two three i guess it seems like you got to pull it pretty hard it's weird it's like if i go to redline it's obviously easier i'm just gonna pull it real hard for both and just see if it works okay so you're feeling fast now yeah right we'll go chill do we have full boost in the next year no like a second higher than first yeah and then thirds higher than second and fourth's higher than third like maybe you didn't like let go of it enough i feel like it didn't cut it enough to disengage yes keep that up i like that why did it work like if you're cruising around like normal it won't do that but if you go in it then it doesn't so that wasn't a lot of throttle just you know oh it wasn't that was only like 50 throttle so maybe we can adjust and scale that map accordingly oh my shifters coming loose again i need to put loctite on that so we need to go back because i i pulled the reverse cable too hard so i pulled the reverse cable out so now i'm i can't go into neutral or reverse and the shift shift knob keeps getting loose but the growing pains yeah we'll figure it out i'm going to do again 50 throttle uh no lift shifts and see what it sounds like it's kind of like we got more throttle i like that though all right sir all right freddie i'm gonna give you a one two three all right one two three yeah four five six no just one two three okay ready i'm gonna pull like a man ready to go for him yeah it felt like it was cutting a little long too long in the one two right yeah it felt like kind of too long for a lot of gears i think i just need to pull it like a man and then uh and reduce that reduction time yeah yeah we're getting a dial though how did it feel after does it feel fast yes it's a very like visceral experience now i'm like it spots a lot back here you would think not having to use the clutch it's like not a lot of work to drive but you got to pull this thing like you mean it i think the one finger shifting is just supposed to be like this like not for wide open yeah wide open the transmission loaded up pretty pretty hard that's probably what he meant i feel like that is a cool selling point though that you can literally ship it with one finger if you're not wide open yeah it's getting close i know we see how much boost that was it can take more boosts in a second right i have room to do another one second let me get some more beers oh my god yeah what what this is mike told me he was like scared he's like dude there's no way we're gonna be able to get a shot with the flames you're gonna have like time to shift properly there had to have been multiple of those yeah was there you did good okay you did a good job it's amazing however the trans needs to get pulled why i think there's an issue with either now we are learning a possible overextension of the internal slave or possibly maybe some sort of installation error with the clutch because i now no longer have a clutch i pulled in here went to clutching in first gear and it stalled the car so unfortunately we're ending this video on a bad note everything works phenomenally um and maybe it's just an issue or like it's bleeding fluid or the fluid is getting hot or there's air in the line but based on some of the noises and stuff i'm worried there might be potential damage to the clutch and i don't want to risk it so rather pull it apart while it's still salvageable but definitely something probably that we did dumb but we'll figure it out and uh she'll be back better than ever so i know there's a lot of gopro footage and stuff in this video it was a blast trying to figure out the trans hope you guys enjoyed it here i'll see you soon when you say\n"
