Barra GT350 Back on the Streets!

The Wildest Thing About Driving My Car

I remember I was like thinking the car is down on power or something and I never realized until someone was behind me that it just rolls through the tires at like 100 mph in third gear all right I'm going to Pedal it through the torque on this one I didn't pull hard enough you got to yank this thing so hard to engage the shift cut to get it to go into gear it sounded like it went in that time I I had to pull it twice I thought I heard the pop on the first one so it's it's popping but the trans is still too loaded up for it to shift got it yeah you're just cutting it yeah I already spaced this up a little bit so you don't have to pull it so hard but tunnel time oh my gring big gr my God that was so loud and it shoots four Flames out the exhaust tips it's pretty swell swell I wish I could capture the amount of effort you have to put into shift B like I could not drive this it is kind of Ching to drive it is it is like the only thing that feels manly see I don't know if the age pattern feels manlier or this does are you ready for a l p yeah it's just not releasing all right so I think this car is just a little scary right now yeah I think it has something to do with the shift cut timing this is the longest I've driven the car since we've welded all the flywheel bolts so I'm like kind of I don't not I don't want to say I'm kind of hoping I'm hoping that everything's good um but if starts to vibrate a lot and the clutch stops working then that means they're vibrating out again but I think we're good love that you brought me along for this journey well that's why we're than you love that so just to kind of explain what's going on this car has uh what's called The Strain gauge and when you pull on this lever there's like a little load sensor down in the shift linkage that will engage an ignition cut on the ECU allowing the transmission to shift while it's under loadad uh kind of similar to putting a clutch in but not just C transmission you can straight shift but that cut allows time for the gear to go in easily and then when it sees that it's in the next gear it resumes power but what's appears to be happening is either uh well I guess it is cutting but it's not cutting enough or for a long enough duration for the gear to go in so I'm going and I'm going to shift and I'm pulling it pretty damn hard and uh it's not shifting it doesn't seem right yeah it doesn't no doesn't seem right and it's kind of terrifying when you when you're at like the top of third gear going you know like 30 mph and you go to to pull for a shift and it doesn't engage and then it's almost like missing a shift so so until I can get someone that properly knows how to set up sequential to tweak my settings we'll probably chill with this car for a bit um still need to change of shocks still need to align it but at least we have a little bit of progress moving forward and I can give you guys a little bit of insight on where the car is at well she made it back in one piece so that's a start I also want to put skinni your front tires on it the big front tires in combined with having no front sway bar because the oil pan and the bear makes it pull all over the road another one of the reasons why it's been kind of sketchy well a 90 update I've almost assembled all the pieces I need to make this thing look like a car again got the front bumper missing the trim and little fender lights and stuff I got the fenders and then we got this full rear cap that we are going to uh weld on and then I will have a minty fresh rear quarter panel can't wait for you guys to find out the plans for this thing quick chill day back glad we got to get some rips in the be GT350 stoked to get that car a little bit more sorted I've got some people that are going to help me with some settings so I can play around and hopefully get it better I want to get confident in it before I take it to the track I want to be a fool going on the track and not being able to shift out of third gear you know what I'm saying anyway thank you guys hope you enjoyed this video reminder last day ever to get your entries to win the 24 karat gold Blitz details in the description and I will see you guys soon thank you four flame nothing exhausted it's pretty swell.

The Car's Strain Gauge System

This car has a system called The Strain gauge, which is used to measure the stress on the transmission during shifting. When you pull the lever, it activates an ignition cut on the ECU that allows the transmission to shift while it's under load. This is similar to using a clutch in manual transmission, but with the added benefit of being able to straight-shift without the need for a clutch pedal.

However, what appears to be happening is that the car is not cutting properly, or not enough, to engage the next gear. As a result, when you're driving at a high speed and try to shift into the next gear, it doesn't engage properly and can be unsettling. The issue is likely related to the timing of the shift cut, which needs to be adjusted in order for the car to shift smoothly.

Getting Help with the Car

Until I can get someone who knows how to set up sequential to tweak my settings, I'll just have to chill with this car for a bit and focus on making some progress. There's still more work to be done, including changing the shocks and aligning the car, but at least we've made it back in one piece.

One of the things that's been causing issues is the big front tires, which combined with having no front sway bar (due to the oil pan and the bear) makes the car pull all over the road. It's another reason why this car has been a bit sketchy.

A New Beginning

I've almost assembled all the necessary pieces to make this thing look like a car again. I've got the front bumper, trim, and fender lights missing, but I'm getting close. Once those are in place, I'll be able to focus on making it look more minty fresh with a full rear cap and a fresh rear quarter panel.

I'm excited to share my plans for this car with you guys soon. For now, let's just say that I'm stoked to get this thing sorted out and take it to the track without any issues. And thank you to everyone who's been following along on this journey – I hope you've enjoyed the ride so far!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys welcome to today's video I don't remember if I mentioned this in video or not but stoked we finally got zipups back these were in that drop that happened last Friday cruising around I've been uh sorting through all the old FD Wheels since the rig is back the Rays that I ran last season they're going to get repurposed for another car or two so I'm going to get them powder coated and I've just been deciding which ones need to be repaired which ones I can just send it with over here it's a beautiful day out super cool a little chilly DTE how's the new trailer working out really good these guys are leaving tomorrow for drift week look how sick this came out with all the parts and racks inside of here did an awesome job looks so legit in here all stuck up and ready to go pretty sure I already told you guys we are not going to make it on this drift week however the plan is to fly out and go use our cars that are in California at one of the stops that way we can still drive with everyone but we don't need to be gone on the road for another 10 days is this thing pretty much done pretty much done missing two things a rear diffuser and it's missing a tune from Jordan so we were trying to connect it just now I can't disable the DCS just yet oh I got to get the cable for you so get me a cable so I can have some fun it Ray painted a new hood looks pretty good nice I'm jealous man raining a lot yesterday thing is so cool you test drifting yet I can't why oh cuz that oh let me go get you that cable let me go get you that cable keep blocking it so all right I'll work on it they've been uploading a bunch of the drift HQ Channel kind of documenting stuff going on with that build so if you guys want to check anything out videos are super informative shot really well Joel does a really good job with it since today is officially the last day of the 24 karat gold Blitz sweep Stakes I want to let you guys know that I'm doing something special and I'm going to cut up some random panels that I have laying around from the S15 from Formula Drift and I'm going to give one piece of body kit with every single order over $50 now mind you every single $5 you spend gets you entered for a chance to win the Blitz and $2,000 cash but every single order I'll make sure of it if it's placed today on Sunday it's going to come with a small little piece of my body kit that I will sign it's something that I've wanted to do for a while and and uh I just couldn't bring myself to cut anything up but here we are it's time to get cut while we were gone colet's car got prepped so it can get painted also another little New Edition this section got painted we've got the new equipment from benack the brand new Baler brand new tire machine just got to wire them up clean this area up a little bit more but it looks really good and uh it's going to be a nice little clean area maybe put a wheel rack there so we can do all our wheel mounting in this area these are the actual complete bushings that replace the actual sleeve on the self frame uh so we just went that route cuz I cut the ones out so these are in got the new Springs in we must do some drag racing stuff uh new camber arms this it connects the lower control arm to the top of the I don't know what it does so everything is in sof is about to go in we got these uh brackets that reinforce this area here there's two positions for the the arm to fit in um they're slotted so you just put it in whatever works best for your application yeah pretty much like a a chassis but bigger so it shouldn't need alignment but if it does then we'll just get Eric to align it for us and then Adam could see we could put it straight line down the Dr St for this s frames the bushings have like um Ed metal so that when you at the factory when they tie it up against jais it doesn't let it slide a lot so when we put these Bings in the actual St frame slides a lot so like this hole here and that hole in the chassis is so that when they at the assembly line they put this together they could guide it through or when you remove something and you're putting it on this helps you guide the the soft frame in I was pretty much moving it to help align the front and I noticed that it was moving a lot so I'm just going to mash it up to the markings on the car before cuz we didn't clean any of that like it's not dirty but you see the imprint from the previous when the soft ring came out so I'm going to masch it up to the best I can on that and tie it up pretty much every car any manufacturer has something similar to this but this is the I never seen it on move this much well I was gone at se of the guys got the rear end of the Mustang finished up I believe there's one small issue with the new shock so we need to get different lowers for it but all the bushings are in I just got put on the ground and check alignment before I go take this thing for a rip though I'm going to do a quick service of the fuel system just since this thing is been sitting for a while I'm going to pull the fuel filter out clean it and possibly do a quick clean on the injectors it's going to be kind of difficult for you guys to see but there is a tiny amount of sediment um although it looks harmless that is enough that could cause potential cloggage to injectors so it's a good thing we've got this filter in here doing its job got her brake cleaned and all nice and tidy inside one of the easiest things about working on this thing is there just so much room so it's so easy to service love it so I'm going to bring this thing down and then assess the injector situation hose rails have been super convenient just for being able to leave cars on trickle chargers especially while they're on the lift post uh cuz we've been killing a lot of batteries out here so all down the line Looks like fuel rail should be pretty easy to access on this thing it's been a minute since I pulled it off usually if injectors are real bad I'll see some Gunk on the tip but I'll uh I'll be honest these ones look very clean either way I'm going to throw them in the Sonic bath and I'll throw them in the flow hopefully they should be a bit better than they were these 2200s just straight dump Fel out like a geyser nothing like a good old burnout to make sure she works I need you to judge this the tire is rolling over think but the tire was like rolling over too maybe that's why the car just like doesn't go straight you saw that do it again man my it's bad I'm going try to do a burnout in a straight line now but that would explain why this car is all over the road the diff is just like mad maybe the diff locks like electronically on these and because it doesn't have all the factory stuff the diff gets confused can't wait to weld it thing like bunny hops more black than the other where we at yeah I mean they were both spinning like the ghost of the print and then the ghost of the other print they spin yeah I wonder why it doesn't like to do donut maybe maybe Mustangs just weren't meant to drift I don't know call chelse up see what he does yeah no that's the drag race in it yeah I kind of want to go try to do a little drag kit over by the LI p i will let's go this thing's going to break I wanted it to break here true I love the the flat shift I've never heard this car from the outside so I think this the first footage of the car with the sequential from the outside of the car pretty loud thank you look at this unit so I noticed a little bit more diff noise which makes sense with everything solid mounted in the rear at first I thought something was wrong but I guess it's just a little bit more whiny um I'm going to do just like a partial throttle to make sure the car under load still goes straight I did a quick toe plate just to make sure the toe was good was a little towed out so I towed it in probably a little more than ideal for a street car but at least if we get wheel spin then we know we're going straight all right third gear roll into it not bad short shifting like crazy she still gets down though thing nuts it's crazy like the wildest thing about it is I remember I was like thinking the car is down on power or something and I never realized until someone was behind me that it just rolls through the tires at like 100 mph in third gear all right I'm going to Pedal it through the torque on this one I didn't pull hard enough you got to yank this thing so hard to engage the shift cut to get it to go into gear it sounded like it went in that time I I had to pull it twice I thought I heard the pop on the first one so it's it's popping but the trans is still too loaded up for it to shift got it yeah you're just cutting it yeah I already spaced this up a little bit so you don't have to pull it so hard but tunnel time oh my gring big gr my God that was so loud and it shoots four Flames out the exhaust tips it's pretty swell swell I wish I could capture the amount of effort you have to put into shift B like I could not drive this it is kind of Ching to drive it is it is like the only thing that feels manly see I don't know if the age pattern feels manlier or this does are you ready for a l p yeah it's just not releasing all right so I think this car is just a little scary right now yeah I think it has something to do with the shift cut timing this is the longest I've driven the car since we've welded all the flywheel bolts so I'm like kind of I don't not I don't want to say I'm kind of hoping I'm hoping that everything's good um but if starts to vibrate a lot and the clutch stops working then that means they're vibrating out again but I think we're good love that you brought me along for this journey well that's why we're than you love that so just to kind of explain what's going on this car has uh what's called The Strain gauge and when you pull on this lever there's like a little load sensor down in the shift linkage that will engage an ignition cut on the ECU allowing the transmission to shift while it's under loadad uh kind of similar to putting a clutch in but not just C transmission you can straight shift but that cut allows time for the gear to go in easily and then when it sees that it's in the next gear it resumes power but what's appears to be happening is either uh well I guess it is cutting but it's not cutting enough or for a long enough duration for the gear to go in so I'm going and I'm going to shift and I'm pulling it pretty damn hard and uh it's not shifting it doesn't seem right yeah it doesn't no doesn't seem right and it's kind of terrifying when you when you're at like the top of third gear going you know like 30 mph and you go to to pull for a shift and it doesn't engage and then it's almost like missing a shift so so until I can get someone that properly knows how to set up sequential to tweak my settings we'll probably chill with this car for a bit um still need to change of shocks still need to align it but at least we have a little bit of progress moving forward and I can give you guys a little bit of insight on where the car is at well she made it back in one piece so that's a start I also want to put skinni your front tires on it the big front tires in combined with having no front sway bar because the oil pan and the bear makes it pull all over the road another one of the reasons why it's been kind of sketchy well a 90 update I've almost assembled all the pieces I need to make this thing look like a car again got the front bumper missing the trim and little fender lights and stuff I got the fenders and then we got this full rear cap that we are going to uh weld on and then I will have a minty fresh rear quarter panel can't wait for you guys to find out the plans for this thing quick chill day back glad we got to get some rips in the be GT350 stoked to get that car a little bit more sorted I've got some people that are going to help me with some settings so I can play around and hopefully get it better I want to get confident in it before I take it to the track I want to be a fool going on the track and not being able to shift out of third gear you know what I'm saying anyway thank you guys hope you enjoyed this video reminder last day ever to get your entries to win the 24 karat gold Blitz details in the description and I will see you guys soon thank you four flame nothing exhausted it's pretty swell\n"
