New Live Text Features in iOS 16!

Live Text in iOS 16: A New Era of Interactivity

In this video, we'll be exploring the improvements made to Live Text in iOS 16, a feature that was introduced back in iOS 15. As a refresher, Live Text allows you to highlight and select written or typed text from photos, interacting with it as you would in any other place inside the operating system.

One of the most impressive aspects of Live Text is its ability to interact with text in a video. Unlike previous versions, which could only select text within still images, Live Text now enables users to pause any video and engage with the text just like they would inside an image. This means that text in paused video frames can be copied, pasted, translated, and even looked up, all thanks to the power of Live Text.

This new feature works across various applications, including Photos, Camera, Safari, and more. Simply pause the frame of the video you want to interact with, touch and hold on a word, and use the two little blue markers to narrow or widen your selection. Pressing and holding will reveal options such as translating and copying text that appears in the photo or video.

In addition to these capabilities, Live Text now supports quick actions, which were first introduced in iOS 15. These quick actions allow users to track flights, packages, translate languages, and even convert currencies right from within a photo or video. For example, if you have a photo with a sign written in a foreign language, you may see the "Translate" quick action available for use.

Live Text can also be found inside the Translate app, thanks to a new camera button that opens the device's camera. This enables users to receive live translations in real-time for different languages, making it easier to communicate across cultural boundaries. Speaking of which, three new languages – Japanese, Korean, and Ukrainian – are now available within Live Text.

Perhaps most excitingly, Live Text will soon work with Spotlight Search, allowing users to search for specific keywords within a photo or video frame and have the relevant information appear in their search results. This is a feature that was demonstrated by the creator of this video, who used it to find a picture of his vaccine card using just the keywords "vaccine" and "card".

As with any new feature, we'd love to hear your thoughts on Live Text and how you're using it. What do you think about these improvements in iOS 16? Are there any features or applications that you think would benefit from this technology? Share your experiences and opinions with us in the comments below.

That's all for today's video – thanks so much for watching, and we hope to see you around in the next one!
