The Power and Grip of the Subaru Engine

We had the opportunity to drive the Subaru with Manoa's son, who is a skilled drifter. We were impressed by his skills and experience behind the wheel. He showed us some amazing drift techniques and took us on a wild ride through the track.

track to pack up our things got a long day ahead of us but it's an exciting day pulling up to North there are two cars and the packing commences now the idea is to spend some time and get the car sorted so when we come back less work to do I leave I'm putting the grios care package to good use starting with the wheel cleaner getting these cuis looking like brand new never even cleaned them after I bought them in case you forgot how gangster grios pfm towel is stands for Pure freaking magic little girl's loaded up dropped off the power vehicles got the griot shine on the gc8 gonna go drop Colette's car off and then we're out of here a quick meal before we hit the road as you guys know over the over this year or two I've been in houses or a few of the cars that I own out here are stored it's my buddy James's place it's out in the Nagoya area which is not like Far West Japan but it's pretty far west of where we were so 6.5 and a half kilometers going on you're driving great on the highways highways the highway road or smooth speed we're doing we're doing 9500 also the same story with evos and stuff it's annoying if the car's super loud but when it's quiet as long as you have the music up you know look at the tack you would never know this engine's a very the aftermarket uh soup style and their business the K trucks they all like put them on each other like they're all humping each other mountains we're going through and like it depends on the top on the top of coffee so that's exciting like actual coffee yeah that was the first that's a normal brand also let the record hold there was a Toge as an alternate route Colette said no and why did I say no because you will get all sleepy in like three hours I'm not gonna get sleep three hours of driving we're trying to film his new cars at the shop and you're like oh it's gonna be dark when we get there I gotta deliver tofu no come on okay here we go let's go I think it's too late now no let's go let there have to be held Colette says let's go I'm very scared at what this toll is going to cost we've been on the highway for like five hours until Sierra kind of insane what only 6 900. how does that make any sense I think we just went on a really weird one for Nico maybe the one to Nieto was like an hour drive and it was like fifty dollars you know what I think of when I see like a Skyline like that here that's blind but the one car that I wanted to share with you guys is the yellow S15 I think you guys might have known I might have said something in a video I sold my yellow S15 in the states to Jimmy no oh he doesn't want to talk about this oh you like the evos your big Evo guy yeah yeah me too it's a good choice the ls15 was really special to me it was something that I really wanted Jimmy wanted a ls15 as well this car popped up and it was a pretty reasonable deal and it's actually an original Aero ev1 lightning yellow car which is fairly rare I don't remember exactly the production numbers but this is the first time I'm seeing it in person this car will be stored here for I think two years until this one becomes legal but overall on the outside pretty much stock it's got some wheels on it Adam was first walking around this car and was like you know it's pretty clean and he was like no it's dirty so I think don't mark my words this might be the first factory Sr turbo car I've ever owned yeah well I guess that gray S14 that I bought technically was a factory Sr car so I guess that renders it pointless but it doesn't feel like my car yes it's basically not I never really did anything I just took the motor and put in something else oh I guess the other S15 the green S15 was Factory Sr and so was the white one yeah so really that statement doesn't mean anything yeah I do that a lot but overall she's uh she's decently stuck so the color in person is a lot more uh like new muted yellow than I would have thought that's pretty it's pretty yellow the uh the other car that I had was like a Lamborghini yellow that was repainted that car was originally pewter and that one was like a bit more like orangey yellow and then uh yeah this is just ev1 lightning yellow this is like my dream spec this car popped up for sale and uh I scooped it but overall pretty clean I want to say there was maybe a little bit of paint work on the body kit the fenders and everything look this looks pretty Factory yeah that line it's like a weird line so that there actually is a factory paint line there but that I agree that doesn't look Factory that looks like it was done with tape that's a little bit of overspray underneath but the important thing is this car has really good bones there's no rust on it and the paint looks really good so it'll be a good platform which will probably eventually get a pvlsr so that one that I have from asworks might be sitting for this one or it might go in the green S15 but overall I'm pretty happy this is why you sold your other one yeah I know this one popped up and uh as much as I liked the other one I just knew what this is your shop yeah okay this is yours all the cars are yours now yeah having a car that's originally yellow is really important to me and I thought that the silver one would be okay and I would care that much but this one caught my eye and now I get to have my dream S15 I mean Ninja we can match no turn we reveal the tour I just bought full disclosure none of these cars are for sale in here these are all privately owned except for I think one just a storage spot most of these cars are owned by people waiting for them to become legal and uh yeah there's a pretty sweet lineup of GTRs over here some other cars and I'll leave it open to interpretation what could be mine and I'll let you guys put some Wild it is has been a big inspiration for stuff that I want to do to the LZ compound so I'm excited to tour the place get to see some of the most wild builds in drifting and hang out for the day do kind of crazy I'm excited to get the view leaving uh the Nagoya area just because it seemed like we're going down a mountain forever last night but it was dark so we weren't getting able to enjoy all gonna help give a little tour we're at fat five right now which would be the actual shop and we're gonna go over to doggo land probably in a few minutes foreign as you guys already know Daigo just talks way too much so this is where I step in okay I'm just gonna say it because I already know because I've done this many times so here's his uh not the gr but then the FRS usually they call in the States but this car was built supposedly supposed to compete in the 2019. oh this was the state's car yeah so this car already left so this car came or he built this before the gr came out and pretty much it got ship covered hit this car sat in the states for a year and because they have the carnating it just came back so pretty much this car went on a field trip and just chilled in the states for a year and the driver couldn't go and that was all I don't know maybe that's one of his last chances we'll see if he can make it back to the States one of these years and then I got to eat yeah he said let's go okay I've always admired the fact that like I feel like you know obviously I don't know what's inside the engines but I feel like he's kind of figured out the 2JZ and kind of rinsed repeats with his engine packet that he likes he does and he does go through I mean it's famous he blows up a lot of Motors but I think it's because he doesn't want to just settle and say okay this is a safe recipe where he's always on the challenge where he uses different things they're always going through their tunes and it's never going to be the safe hey this is it he's always asking for more like let's say if the tuner says you know 8 500 is Max then he'll be like okay give me 9 000. I love that he's willing to take the risk and that's probably what makes him different I appreciate him pushing the envelope especially with FD I know like the level of cars it helps the sport grow and yeah he said he's tired next year he's gonna go normal way normal turbo jdx100 yeah like wanna if you want to be like Dido get Plaza man on drift HQ we like plasma man a lot good what's this Jesse muted yellow than I would have thought that's pretty it's pretty yellow the uh the other car that I had was like a Lamborghini yellow that was repainted that car was originally pewter and that one was like a bit more like orangey yellow and then uh yeah this is just ev1 lightning yellow this is like my dream spec this car popped up for sale and uh I scooped it but overall pretty clean I want to say there was maybe a little bit of paint work on the body kit the fenders and everything look this looks pretty Factory yeah that line it's like a weird line so that there actually is a factory paint line there but that I agree that doesn't look Factory that looks like it was done with tape that's a little bit of overspray underneath but the important thing is this car has really good bones there's no rust on it and the paint looks really good so it'll be a good platform which will probably eventually get a pvlsr so that one that I have from asworks might be sitting for this one or it might go in the green S15 but overall I'm pretty happy this is why you sold your other one yeah I know this one popped up and uh as much as I liked the other one I just knew what this is your shop yeah okay this is yours all the cars are yours now yeah having a car that's originally yellow is really important to me and I thought that the silver one would be okay and I would care that much but this one caught my eye and now I get to have my dream S15 I mean Ninja we can match no turn we reveal the tour I just bought full disclosure none of these cars are for sale in here these are all privately owned except for I think one just a storage spot most of these cars are owned by people waiting for them to become legal and uh yeah there's a pretty sweet lineup of GTRs over here some other cars and I'll leave it open to interpretation what could be mine and I'll let you guys put some guesses in the comments what that is rude number number two will be revealed soon so when I'm not gonna it'll give away if I say one people are smart okay interior stock doesn't even have any ricey gauges it's got a little bit of a wheel peel going on I think this car if I remember correctly has a little bit over a hundred thousand K's so it's not like a super crazy low mileage one but finding an arrow ev1 car was pretty tricky and I honestly don't even pop up at auctions I got this car from a dealer and I'm glad I did I won't be able to sleep now no it's really nice look at this yeah I know I'm more impressed with the interior than you are this interior besides like ignore the wheel and look at everything else and it's I want to be nice I mean s15s are kind of like newer cars so I'd be upset if it was trashed but yeah I just yeah you're not wrong I want to know what these I'm curious what these things are maybe you guys know in the comments what is this Subaru after a little bit of a late start to the day in Nagoya editing one of my favorite videos that you guys saw it was the last video what a special day we are heading four hours back towards Tokyo to go visit daigosaito now Dago's a legend in drifting for many reasons he's got some of the wildest builds but I'm more excited than anything to see doggo Land watching him create this place on social media and seeing how Wild it is has been a big inspiration for stuff that I want to do to the LZ compound so I'm excited to tour the place get to see some of the most wild builds in drifting and hang out for the day do you still hate it are you starting to like it more this yeah I like how much stuff we can fit in it yeah we do have like four giant suitcases in it which is kind of impressive I guess it would be easier if this was a four-door but gotta have the two door so we gotta do a trash run Japan is so clean but somehow there's no trashes anywhere ever it's kind of wild there's never trash cans it's kind of crazy I'm excited to get the view leaving uh the Nagoya area just because it seemed like we're going down a mountain forever last night but it was dark so we weren't getting able to enjoy all the views and stuff there's actually two different locations uh the first place that we're headed is called fat five racing it's Daigo shop Colette Pit Stop Family Mart loving our sandwich okay share with the world that you're consuming it's very weird but I really like it teriyaki chicken with egg it's actually really good this is our uh this is our Lunch Adam had cereal I think we found it sure getting a little bit lost all right it's a weird scene wow yeah what's that doing here well that stop it Robbie Nishida who's another legend in the drift world is here to help translate so uh he's gonna help give a little tour we're at fat five right now which would be the actual shop and we're gonna go over to doggo land probably in a few minutes foreign as you guys already know Daigo just talks way too much so this is where I step in okay I'm just gonna say it because I already know because I've done this many times so here's his uh not the gr but then the FRS usually they call in the States but this car was built supposedly supposed to compete in the 2019. oh this was the state's car yeah so this car already left so this car came or he built this before the gr came out and pretty much it got ship covered hit this car sat in the states for a year and because they have the carnating it just came back so pretty much this car went on a field trip and just chilled in the states for a year and the driver couldn't go and that was all I don't know maybe that's one of his last chances we'll see if he can make it back to the States one of these years and then I got to eat yeah he said let's go okay I've always admired the fact that like I feel like you know obviously I don't know what's inside the engines but I feel like he's kind of figured out the 2JZ and kind of rinsed repeats with his engine packet that he likes he does and he does go through I mean it's famous he blows up a lot of Motors but I think it's because he doesn't want to just settle and say okay this is a safe recipe where he's always on the challenge where he uses different things they're always going through their tunes and it's never going to be the safe hey this is it he's always asking for more like let's say if the tuner says you know 8 500 is Max then he'll be like okay give me 9 000. I love that he's willing to take the risk and that's probably what makes him different I appreciate him pushing the envelope especially with FD I know like the level of cars it helps the sport grow and yeah he said he's tired next year he's gonna go normal way normal turbo jdx100 yeah like wanna if you want to be like Dido get Plaza man on drift HQ we like plasma man a lot good what's this Jesse um it's the I'm not going to say the favorite car because they had the whole uh emissions thing in the 70s and this car was kind of in the middle of that it was like one of the newer cars that came off after um the whole emissions deal they had in Japan so um all right we got a beautiful dzx 100 what's the quick specs on this this is like his uh secondary missile okay it's a little clean for a missile yeah but you know like he brought out the 862 Matsuri he's willing to take this out um and same thing like if I think he was one of the first guys in Japan that put a you know GeForce in his missile put a 2J in his missile and made it uh not so much of a missile missile you know and same thing pushing the envelope you know trying to trying to do something new I guess well I see it too like missiles at least for me are meant to have fun and if you have a broken transmission that's not fun yeah same thing he said you go brace and you're out of a car yeah and that's what happens when you do that yep more flakes I know to what's in love with the flake I know doggo is a big Corvette fan but this is a customer car then I've been eyeing this up uh I don't know does know about my super build we started talking rotary and now we're going out back oh this is a four rotor it's orange is this uh an A or Turbo cool what car are we revealing oh an rx3 very cool I just showed a photo of mine picks it up and it's the same thank you great great this thing's pretty cool this hasn't run yet has it we're waiting for the wiring right now so now he's almost done so four-wheel drive 2JZ very cool the level of these builds is crazy he said he's gonna fit a passenger seat in there oh yeah no way really I don't know how but it's tight yeah so that'll be cool oh you're joking I love it is it light light enough yeah this is mainly just a demo car there's no competition this would work out right oh he might be able to do like dirt trials so that'll be kind of crazy and that's a lot of power because so say hey so he kind of built the legend of there's a lot of travel for the suspension so you know everybody probably knows him with the whole red jzx doing the whole jump in Minami right so he could do another one uh in dirt this thing has always been one of my favorites I remember when I saw the first photo of how far the engine was back I couldn't believe it that would be like normally where the firewall is you have all this empty space instead yeah so his first High horsepower crazy missile that he built and all that is now swapped to a jzx 100 chassis which that's his new missile so will you keep this forever will it be decoration or we'll be trash oh okay or maybe he'll put it up on top of something yeah I love it a left-hand drive j600 so did anyone ever compete with this Joel okay cool yeah oh he's cool you can explore all the hidden places I didn't even know existed oh my God the parts oh here you go so these are all the htk Corvette Parts the body parts oh they're everywhere so let's gonna start pulling out her money so that's like that's like all GT3 I love the wheels just everywhere I was asking about permitting and building structures and uh Robbie was telling me a lot of these are considered temporary uh buildings just because they're built out of containers or uh I guess you're saying all the zoning and everything is difficult here yeah so I mean depending on what you're where you get the land and stuff like that there's certain restrictions that you got to follow and then he just kind of like really use your head to oh yeah you know get by so yeah smart yeah I'm just gonna say this right now like I already know I'm so self-conscious I feel like I do a terrible job when it comes to filming like tours and stuff it's challenging because like this is a place that I've wanted to go for so long that I like want to immerse myself and not film but then I also know that if I don't film on regret filming so I want to let you guys know that you're in luck because Larry Chen has an amazing video touring off doggo stuff so in the event that you want to learn more his video is great and I'm just like a kid in a candy shop trying to look at stuff and uh now we're going to diner land I'm excited to go to diagram seen like all the like the decorations in the building stuff is what fascinates me more than anything because that's the stuff that I'm trying to replicate right like we we know Daigo can build some crazy cars and they're cool and like we figured out the 2JZ engine kinda we could put it in car but make it in the compound look like a freaking amusement park goals yeah he's also trying to use this tour as a way to show me like look it could be worse I could have all these other buildings full of random parts and more cars it's actually pretty impressive Dino didn't even remember they had a four rotor we started talking about my three rotor and Adam's four rotor and he was like wait they thought it was lost they couldn't find it it was like he lost his phone or something trying to like feel around and find out where his freaking four rotor was um so that was really cool and he had a whole that room upstairs was all Corvette spares and parts oh she saw the torque tubes and got triggered oh yeah I saw the torque tube and I said tort too bad bad he knows I'm oh my look at this wow this is why Daigo I felt like was like come on let's go we're taking too long at the shop let's go let's go I can understand why now crazy wow how freaking cool look at this oh I see a Subaru little Miatas wow look at that little set I don't know if I can fit you're good you're good you're not gonna hit the Miata not gonna hit the Miata you're good good so much room foot you got a foot you're good wow that car is there where are we what what's that who designs everything he did that's really cool wow I admire that a lot yeah I don't have a vision when it comes to I know how to make a car look good but like a building uh I'm lost 2JZ thank you foreign foreign foreign how was that I just had a ride along with one of the best drivers in the world so I had to drive hard yeah that was scared I was like there's so much going on hey I'm so proud of you thanks for not making us look bad I know I was really nervous about that me that's really really fun it looks like it the wall makes it pretty scary good driving oh I think it's funny because when you're sorry if my lead runs right here yeah he doesn't talk too much either okay he talks too much he talks too much at all yeah it's tricky yeah so you can use it but it's like after you transition then you grab it and it slows down the wheel speed but you can't use it to initiate if that makes sense Miatas are fun but I've never really four-wheel drive drifted so is this like a fancy car or it's a stock engine no it's got or it's probably got like a Turbo upgrade I think it makes like 400 horsepower oh wow yeah it goes just like a little rally car yeah yeah it's cool down so that's awesome that's crazy yo the G's that you feel I looked insane inside it's crazy oh my gosh so I noticed with the steering wheel you counter steer and then steer in that don't don't always keep yeah yeah I was trying to watch and learn too many handbrake obviously yeah yeah so in initiation gas gas and weight transfer I'm excited thank you I'm excited for Adam to try this and also a little worried because I've I've known that he was going to love all-wheel drive I've been wanting him to drive one of the GRC likes cars that I used to race forever ago because I knew he would absolutely love it and be really good at it so I'm a little nervous that he's about to get a little taste of that right now good thank you thank you power's so good yeah yeah this is crazy oh god look on his face it's already started this is the craziest wow this is not a normal super engine he said it looked better than Kim Long really it helped a lot watching you look at me yeah yeah so this is like really this is really good for this because it's the power and the grip and everything it's kind of it's not good it's not too grippy to the point where you have to kind of get back on gas and get it all lit up it's the perfect vacuum this is like an expensive Subaru engine right so what this would be an expensive incidents so I guess it's like a 2.5 with aftermarket piston it's all filter Bill blocked so I've never driven a Subaru with this kind of power it's like no what is something it's like a Subaru Forester board because it's so responsive five five he said he bought this car for about a million and a half that's cheap isn't it well I mean not never mind like three years ago or so so I think it was like right before everything cute converted to the dollars right now this was about a little over 10 games wow so I mean that's a cool thing yeah so how do you how do you stay and drift better because like I feel like I could get into it but then I would start to push towards the exit of the corner United yeah so when you uh when you do the transfer steer in sooner yeah at first so the car wants to go there and then you're kind of holding back over so if you cut in a little bit earlier I mean so how was this driving did I go yeah how was how was his driving yeah for a person doing this for the first time driving a four-wheel drive is pretty impressive because that's what Daigle said and I think so too because I tried it it was pretty it was pretty hard coming from drifting yeah yeah because you want you got to counter yeah foreign foreign foreign thank you lawyer that's amazing we need one go buy one how easy is it go buy one right now it feels like the wildest so good we need one see I told you uh where do I send the money oh um of all the things too imagine driving this lot and then just having all these beautiful cars right on the outside edge of the track terrifying this stuff's all concrete so the the guy that built it builds stuff for Disney over here which wow made me think of something yeah we live by Disney we do maybe maybe someone watching this video build stuff for Disney that can come build stuff at the compound how cool this is It's DMS DMS are open wow so cool the showroom I love it everything's got like its own little vibe I need to step your compound design game up but I know we've seen videos of this place but in person it's like a whole different experience yeah yeah there's just so many little details that you wouldn't even think of I love the design every where I'm so inspired by all the decorations the door is on the wall that's exactly what I wanted to do it looks so good with the back the backlit behind it literally we were talking about doing this upstairs in the loft I love it so cool it was a it was almost like a storage area here and there was a company and there was a store in front of it so they he cut that off and there used to be a house on top so he remodeled everything and it looked more bare like a construction uh definitely loved how everything is modified it's very much how I like to roll getting ideas for the Supra talking about wheel and tire size it's making me want to run bigger than 18s because even 19s look great what's the fastest drift car you've ever drifted he said maybe the super that was really in a part of it there's still a lot of grip or a lot of power we mean yeah it has the grip bye-bye that's so cool not even a week of owning the Subaru and we're already noticing some weird smells it smells like Nitro Sleek mixed with melting chemicals wow bye-bye what an amazing day it's hard to even summarize it into words but also to have the Manoa show up unexpectedly and you get to drive with their amazingly talented 13 year old son that actually competes in fdj1 was an honor I can't thank doggo enough for showing us around and Robbie for taking the time to translate it was truly an experience I will never forget and I hope that the video translated that we're in Tokyo now we're actually staying in Shibuya and Colette's channel will be taking over the videos from downtown Tokyo I've got like one or two videos planned left in Japan that are more car themed than some of the touristy more exploration stuff we're going to do on her channel so make sure to go subscribe to her if you haven't already and keep a lookout for that
