Black and Decker Jigsaw Review (New Curve Control) -- by Home Repair Tutor

The Unboxing and Review of Black + Decker's New Jigsaw

As I eagerly opened the box containing Black + Decker's new jigsaw, I couldn't help but feel excitement about the tool that lay before me. "Do you love tools?" I exclaimed to my audience, "I love tools." And with that, I began the unboxing process.

The first thing I noticed was the 2-year limited warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee that came with the jigsaw. This reassured me that Black + Decker stands behind their product and wants its customers to be satisfied. The jigsaw itself is a 5-amp tool, which means it comes with CurveControl. This allows users to adjust the speed of the saw for the desired cutting application. Whether you're cutting through metal, plastic, or wood, CurveControl provides an adjustable setting that suits your needs.

As I continued to inspect the jigsaw, I noticed that it accepts U and T shank blades, making it versatile for various tasks. The included 1-T shank wood blade is a great starting point, but users can also purchase additional blades from DeWalt or other manufacturers. Another notable feature of this saw is its ability to bevel the shoe for angled cuts, giving users more flexibility when working on projects.

Now that I had taken out the jigsaw and exposed it to light, I could appreciate its size and weight. The saw weighs approximately 4.5 pounds, making it manageable for most users. As I held it in my hands, I couldn't help but feel a sense of confidence about its performance.

Setting up the jigsaw is relatively straightforward. Simply plug it into a power outlet, select your desired setting using CurveControl, and begin cutting. In this review, I experimented with different settings to see how the saw performed on various materials.

For pocket cuts, I wanted to gauge the saw's ability to make precise cuts without creating excessive noise or vibration. To achieve this, I set the jigsaw to a lower speed and carefully guided it through the wood, allowing it to penetrate only slightly before making further cuts. The results were impressive – the saw made clean cuts with minimal splintering.

Circular cuts presented another challenge. In this scenario, I needed to cut around a toilet flange without creating an uneven surface or damaging the surrounding material. To accomplish this, I employed the same technique used for pocket cuts: slowly guiding the saw through the wood while maintaining control over its movement. To my surprise, the jigsaw performed flawlessly on both the orbital and non-orbital settings.

Laminates posed another challenge – they can be notoriously difficult to cut without splintering or creating uneven surfaces. However, Black + Decker's new jigsaw proves itself to be up to the task by incorporating a special laminate blade that allows users to make precise cuts with minimal risk of damage.

After experimenting with the various settings and features of this saw, I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance. It's clear that Black + Decker has put considerable effort into designing a tool that caters to different user needs and preferences.

In conclusion, my experience with the new Black + Decker jigsaw has left me feeling confident about its abilities. Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or just starting out on your home improvement journey, this saw is an excellent addition to any toolkit. With its CurveControl feature, adjustable speed, and versatile blade options, it's clear that this jigsaw is designed to meet the needs of users who demand precision and quality.

As I put the jigsaw away and began thinking about how I could share this tool with my audience, a smile spread across my face as I realized the perfect opportunity. To celebrate the launch of this new saw, I'm excited to announce that I'll be giving away not one, but two jigsaws – one of which has already been unboxed in today's review. The winner will receive both of these fantastic tools, courtesy of Home Repair Tutor.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enDo you love tools? I love tools.Hey, everybody! I’m Jeff with Home RepairTutor, and in this video, I’m going to showyou the unboxing video for Black + Decker’snew Jigsaw. So here it is right here. We’regoing to do the unboxing of it. I’m goingto show you the ins and outs. It’s a prettysweet tool for any beginner. And I’ve gota cool surprise for you at the end, so staytuned. Let’s get to it.Here it is, the Black + Decker Jigsaw. Itcomes with a 2-year limited warranty and a30-day money-back guarantee, which is prettycool. You also have 5 amps with CurveControl, which means that you can adjust it for thedesired cutting application. So whether you’recutting through metal, plastic, or wood, youhave the ability to adjust the speed. It alsoaccepts U and T shank blades. It comes with1 T shank wood blade. And you can bevel theshoe for angled cuts. So let’s open up thisbad boy. There are two pieces of tape. You just wantto cut right through those. And as you pullout the Jigsaw, you’ll see it’s in a plasticbag to protect it, and it has a plenty longextension cord. So if you’re far away froman outlet, not a problem here.So this is what the saw looks like. It’sgot some heft to it. It’s about 4 lbs. It’snot too heavy. But you also get the directions. So that’s all you get. You have the directions,a T shank blade for wood cutting, and thesaw itself. That’s what’s in the box. There are 4 different cut settings:1, 2, 3,and 4. 1 is non-orbital cutting. 2, 3, and4 are orbital cutting. So here you go. Here’s1; that’s the slowest cut. And as you goup in number, to 2, to 3, to 4, the aggressivenessof the cut increases as well. So when you’reon 4, that’s an orbital cut—the most aggressiveone. The trigger is variable, so the more you pressdown on it, the faster the cut. And there’sa lock-on button that allows you to hold thetrigger in place whenever the speed is atthe fastest, okay?So the shoe is made out of nice metal. Youcan take it off. There’s a screw holdingthe base plate on the saw—I’ll show youhow to take that off in a little bit later. And when you open the directions, you canaccess not only the directions but the T shankblade meant for wood cutting. So here arethe directions, they’re very self-explanatory.And there’s the T shank blade, which youcan easily put into the Jigsaw. There’sa lever on it that you can depress—I’llshow you that. But this wood blade is forSpeed Wood cutting. So there’s also an exhaust port on the backof it. You can plug either a shot back intoor your vacuum into, and that will pull thedust out of the Jigsaw. Pretty cool.So here is the one screw holding the baseplate onto the Jigsaw. You just want to turnthe screw counter-clockwise. And there’sanother little plate that holds the base platein place. And it has these little notchesin it that indicate the angle. There are alsotabs that hold the notches in place on thatbase plate. So as you can see here, thereare numbers on the base plate, from 0° to22.5° to 45°. So when it’s at 0°, that’sa straight cut. You can angle to 22.5°. Andthen you can angle it to 45° degrees bothleft and right. So you’ve got some optionsthere. Put that little retaining plate backin place. Screw it down clockwise. And thereyou go. That’s how you adjust the base plate. It only takes a few seconds. It’s prettyeasy to do. And there you go. You can makeyour angled cuts. You can make your beveledcuts, no problem. The T shank blade, all you have to do, there’sa little lever. You pull down on the lever, and you push the blade into place. You alwayswant the saw blade to be facing forward. Sothe little teeth should face forward. Andyou can also buy special Laminate blades andFast/Clean Cut wood blades from DeWalt. Nowthis is a T shank blade. The DeWalt Jig SawBlade Set are U shaped, and that’s fine. You can use those. That little set costs maybeabout, I don’t know, $10.So I’m going to put this on setting 4. Thisis actually an orbital cutting setting, andit cut right through this ¾” plywood, noproblem. What about pocket cuts? How doesthe saw do on pocket cuts? So you want togo nice and slow until the saw blade actuallypenetrates the wood just a little bit. Sinksinto the wood, and then you can saw out yourcut. Okay, so for pocket cuts, no problem. What about circular cuts? Let’s say youhave to go around a toilet flange to placea piece of plywood. Again, you’d want todo your pocket cut. Then you could set itto whatever setting you want. Actually, Iforgot and left it on setting 1, which isnot an orbital setting. But this saw stillcut through the ¾” plywood, no problem. So as you can see here, you get yourself anice, circular cut. Even on the non-orbitalsetting, it did a good job. I forgot to putit back to, like, 2 or 3.Now what about laminates? How do you cut throughlaminates without them splintering? Like Isaid, you can get a special laminate bladewhere the teeth face forward, not backwardlike a traditional jigsaw blade. So when theteeth face forward, you can go through thetop of the laminate without it splintering. And that is really cool because you can seeyour cut, and you’re going to get a nice, clean effect to it. It’s not going to splinterout and look terrible. I did a whole laminatefloor this way with the Jigsaw, and you can, too. So there you go. Those are some coolqualities for this saw.Well there you have it. That’s the new Black+ Decker Jigsaw. It’s a pretty sweet tool. And here is the surprise. I’m going to giveaway the one I unboxed today plus a secondone back on over at Home Repair Tutor.
