iPad Pro 2020 UNBOXING and Hands-on Review

**Is the iPad Pro Your Gadget Match?**

If you're looking to buy an iPad and wondering if it's the right device for your needs, you've come to the right place. In this article, we'll explore the various use cases of the iPad Pro, discuss its portability, and compare it to a Mac.

**Power and Performance: A Must-Have for Creatives**

If you're a creator who needs more power for photo or video editing, the iPad Pro is an excellent choice. Its powerful processor makes it ideal for tasks that require intense computing power. Additionally, Apple updates the iPad Pro once every two years, ensuring that it stays current with the latest technologies.

However, if you're just looking to use your new iPad for general browsing, streaming, or gaming, a less expensive model may be sufficient. In this case, the iPad or iPad Air would be an excellent choice, offering similar performance at a lower price point.

**The Pro vs. The Non-Pro: What's the Difference?**

So, what sets the iPad Pro apart from other iPads? For one, it has a more powerful processor and more advanced cameras, making it ideal for professional use cases like photo editing or video production. It also comes with pen support, which is perfect for taking notes or sketching.

One of the biggest advantages of the iPad Pro is its portability. Weighing in at just 1.5 pounds, it's easy to carry around and squeeze into a bag. This makes it an excellent device for working on-the-go or attending meetings without having to worry about your laptop getting damaged.

**Balancing Functionality with Portability**

However, there are some limitations to using the iPad Pro as a replacement for a Mac. For example, balancing the folio case on your lap is not as easy as it would be with a laptop. Additionally, while the iPad Pro has improved significantly in terms of its desktop browsing capabilities, it's still not quite as powerful as a Mac when it comes to file management.

**Who Should Consider an iPad Pro?**

So, who should consider buying an iPad Pro? If you're a professional creative who needs more power for tasks like photo editing or video production, the iPad Pro is an excellent choice. Its advanced features and portability make it an ideal device for working on-the-go.

However, if you're just looking to use your new iPad for general browsing, streaming, or gaming, a less expensive model may be sufficient. In this case, the iPad or iPad Air would be an excellent choice, offering similar performance at a lower price point.

**Student-Friendly?**

Many users have asked whether the iPad Pro is suitable for students. Our answer is yes, but with some caveats. While the iPad Pro can handle many tasks that are typically associated with using a computer, it's not ideal for more demanding tasks like video editing or programming.

In these cases, we would recommend sticking with a laptop or desktop computer. However, for general use cases like taking notes, reading books, or browsing the web, the iPad Pro is an excellent choice.

**Is It PC Replacement?**

One question that has been on everyone's mind is whether the iPad Pro can replace your traditional PC. The answer is no – at least not yet. While the iPad Pro has improved significantly in terms of its desktop browsing capabilities, it still lags behind a Mac when it comes to tasks like file management and video editing.

**A Final Note**

In conclusion, while the iPad Pro is an excellent device for many use cases, it's essential to understand its limitations before making a purchase. If you're a professional creative who needs more power for tasks like photo editing or video production, the iPad Pro is an excellent choice. However, if you're just looking to use your new iPad for general browsing, streaming, or gaming, a less expensive model may be sufficient.

you doing I hope you're doing great I'm home so quarantined trying to shoot a video because look what I have here okay let's get this party started first up is the iPad pro today I'm unboxing the 12 point 9 inch model but it's also available in a smaller 11 inch Ferrier this is officially the fourth generation iPad pro the following announcements in 2015 2017 and most recently 2018 were Apple first debuted this form factor as with any Apple product of late no blade is required to get to this package just look for this pull tab and tug away now can I gracefully do it this time apparently not but there it is the 20/20 I pad pro lift here that's one big tablet before I put it away take a look at that camera book it's the same shape as on the iPhone 11 squarish with two beer cameras the first time on an iPad more on that later also in the box standard stuff guides SIM tray ejector cuz I have a cellular model and ah they're stickers just the standard white ones at this time around also in the box a 1 meter long USB C charge cable and an 18 watt power brick the shape of this brick will differ depending on where you purchase your iPad pro okay now let's unwrap the device and dive straight into Sara hello okay swipe up from the bottom of the screen to begin if you have an older iPad you can use the Quick Start option to migrate your data just to bring your old iPad near the new iPad and boom you'll get this prompt to begin the transfer just hit continue and then hold the old iPad over the new one to scan the pattern alright now let's set up face ID this is the only biometric option for the iPad pro there is no fingerprint scanner but I choose face ID any day now I just have to sign in with my Apple ID and that's it okay well it's restoring my apps and data from iCloud let's move on to the smart folio keyboard but don't get too excited this is not the magic keyboard that's coming in May don't worry we'll take a look at it later so keep watching this is an optional accessory but I think it's a must-have for the full experience you'll find on the back you'll see two different angles at which you can prop it up I'll show you in person later again just look for the flap of the arrow and pull let's get the rapper out of the whip oh nice there's an Apple logo embossed on the case this is real the folio keyboard on the 2018 iPad pro didn't have one if you open it up you'll find there's a keyboard on one side and on the other I felt like finish with these three dots on them you'll find they match the three dots on the back of the iPad pro this is a smart connector and they transfer not only power but data they magnetically snap into place just drop it down like so no need to charge no need to pair okay now that that's taken care of let's take a look at those positions we saw on the box this is the closed position you get protection for both the front and back of your iPad pro then you lift here like you would a laptop this is the first position and if you want a less steep of an incline you can adjust it like so okay there's one thing clearly missing let's unbox it shall we this is the Apple pencil tool which works exclusively with the third and fourth generation and pros it's also an optional purchase but again a must-have let's slide this out there you go the Apple pencil 2 has a matte finish and has one flat side that makes it really comfy to grip and use it also magnetically attaches to the iPad pro like this and there you go just like that it's paired now charging that about wraps up our iPad pro unboxing and setup but don't go anywhere now for the exciting plan hey guys I'm Michael Josh not Steve Jobs it's been a few days and I've had time to use the device and now I'm in a better position to answer your questions a few days ago on social media I asked you to send in questions about the new iPad pro and one that I got asked a lot is how much better is this one versus the 2018 model on the outside there's only the camera buff to tell both models apart button port and speaker Arrangements are all the same same dimensions too and if you're wondering the same shade of space gray so let's talk about what's new there's a new a 12 Z Bionic chip which is much more powerful than on the 2018 model I don't usually do benchmarks but Nasir asks on Twitter the a12 z chip on the 20/20 iPad Pro outscored the a 12 X chip on the 2018 model in both CPU and GPU tests having said that the previous iPad pro was already pretty powerful so much so that it could handle tasks like 4k video editing there's a second rear camera now 20/20 iPad pro has a 10 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera to go alongside it's 12 megapixel wide camera I know tablet photography is one that's frowned upon but Apple sees the iPad pro as a device for content creators like me aside for being able to edit entire videos on apps like luma fusion Apple wants the iPad pro to also be a device you can use for video capture both cameras shoot 4k video and now just like on a 16 inch MacBook Pro from last year it has five studio microphones built in so that you can use the device for on cam bits like this one this is a test using I know I'm wearing the lapel mic but using the onboard microphones and the standard white angle camera and now let's switch to the ultra wide-angle lens hi everybody the ultra wide-angle camera also comes in handy when you're scanning documents which the iPad is great for especially if the goal is to use the Apple pencils to annotate that wraps from Apple tell me they work in conjunction with the new lidar scanner that's built into the device light our stands for light detection and ranging the technology works by sending beams of light at your surroundings creating a map of objects in the space around you by measuring the time it takes for the light to bounce back the new lidar scanner is meant to elevate the augmented reality experience on the device which Apple is committed to making a reality one great example of this is the upcoming AR game hot lava you'll see the iPad pro is able to accurately detect objects in a room and it does in a way that in-game elements can interact with them including humans in the scene the IKEA app which I use a lot while designing my apartment is also getting an update it will soon be able to recommend matching furniture or accessories based on what you currently have and there are scientific applications too like anatomy that uses lidar to measure the range of motion of someone's arm in real-time with lidar it's also easier to set up AR applications previously you need it to scan your surroundings by moving your device around now you just launch the AR app to start a lot of you also asked about the new magic keyboard and it's one of the things that I'm most excited about as well unfortunately it doesn't ship till May and I don't have one yet but thanks to the magic of augmented reality we can get a sneak peek here it is in my living room you'll notice that the iPad is elevated from the keyboard giving it an almost imac esque feel the elevated display means you don't have to look down as much over here built into that hinge is a USBC port so that you can keep your iPad pro charged while in use I think what makes the magic keyboard even more exciting though is its built-in trackpad I've had OS 13.4 brings touch functionality to the iPad and because I don't have that magic keyboard case with a touchpad just yet will demo the new functionality with the Magic Trackpad so wipe gestures work just like on the Mac you swipe up with four fingers to see all your open apps scroll down with two fingers to scroll through web pages it works just like on a computer just reimagined for a touchscreen device instead of a pointer you see a circle instead whenever you hover over menu items they will light up like this to indicate they're being selected it transforms into a vertical bar when you're highlighting text you can easily copy text like you would with a right-click or a two finger tap and press and if you're editing a long document you can also move entire blocks of text like so it's the same thing if you're using a mouse and yes it also supports third it's hardly nice while we're on the topic Mouse and trackpad support isn't exclusive to just the 20/20 iPad pro any iPad that supports the iPad OS 13.4 update gets those features and the new magic keyboard that's coming up will also support the 28 iPad pro so given all these new features Darryl asks on Twitter is it worth it or should I just buy the older 2018 iPad pro which I could probably get on a discount the answer really depends on what you're going to use your new iPad for if you're going to do things like photo or video editing you can benefit from that more powerful processor also remember Apple updates the iPad pro once every two years iPad pro or MacBook Air that's another question I got asked a lot while with this latest update the iPad encroaches more on Mac territory these are still two different classes of devices so to be able to answer that question let's take a look at the things that you can do on an iPad that you can't do on a Mac first of all before we forget it's a tablet so it's a great device for reading books or magazines or comics not to mention watching videos on a plane it has a touchscreen display apps built for the iPad are optimized for touch and in some cases that makes more sense it also has pen support making it a great device for taking notes the old way or sketching and drawing it's also smaller and I really love the portability of the iPad pro I love how I can squeeze my 11 inch iPad pro into my man bag that's not something I can do with my macbook air as a creator having the two cameras on its back are a plus and if you've got the cellular model that also means you can have Internet connectivity everywhere you go of course with an added cost also we're being literal the iPad pro isn't a laptop replacement balancing the folio case on my lap is not as easy as a macbook air for example the iPad pro isn't also necessarily cheaper than a Mac so all that extra functionality we talked about you pay for the cheapest macbook air starts at $9.99 the cheapest iPad pro with the keyboard folio and the pencil will cost you one thousand one hundred and seven dollars so to answer the questions of little dot lionex and jim asked ourselves which apps you use on a daily basis if you edit on Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere for example then you're stuck with the Mac the Mac is also much better at file management being able to import any kind of file for example if these are things that you don't really need and you're lured by the pen support and portability then go for the iPad pro but I want to correct the impression that you can't get desktop browsing experiences on the iPad since I've had oh s 13 a desktop version of Safari is included so things like Google Docs or WordPress works just fine so is the 20/20 iPad pro your gadget match if you follow me closely on social media you'll know that since the 2018 iPad pro this has been one of my favorite Apple devices surfing the web or taking notes watching videos or playing games Apple makes many capable iPads that you can get for Less plenty of you also asked is it a great device for student my answer is yes but because of its price tag I think you're better off getting the iPad or iPad air they will do the jobs as well if you want I've actually been thinking of doing a which iPad is right for you video let me know in the comments section below of that something you're interested in the C is it a PC replacement it's not an apple is pretty clear that that's not the point here it's about having different kinds of devices to match what it is you're trying to do and if I were to paraphrase they want to ensure that each user finds his or her own gadget match and now more than ever as you're able to do things previously not possible on an Apple tablet and that line is slowly starting to blur one thing I'll say is as tablets continue to struggle to find a reason for being there are still plenty of reason to buy an iPod and that was our 20/20 iPad pro unboxing and hands-on instead of a review video I've decided to put away all my Mac's and move into the iPad pro using it exclusively as my
