Sonos Move vs Bose Portable Home Speaker

**The Sonos Move and Bose Portable Home Speaker: A Comparison**

In this article, we will compare two portable home speakers from different manufacturers, the Sonos Move and the Bose Portable Home Speaker. Both speakers are designed to provide high-quality sound and a convenient way to enjoy music on-the-go. However, they differ in several aspects, including design, sound quality, and features.

**Design**

One of the most noticeable differences between the two speakers is their design. The Sonos Move has a clean and minimalist look that is typical of Sonos products. The speaker is compact and lightweight, making it easy to transport around. On the other hand, the Bose Portable Home Speaker has a more rugged and premium design that is similar to some of Bose's other 360 speakers. The speaker has a cylindrical shape and a funky handle that makes it easy to carry around. While the Sonos Move has a sleek look, I prefer the clean direction of the Sonos move where the handle is actually implemented into the speaker by grabbing the back upper lip portion of the speaker right where the buttons are located.

**Sound Quality**

Both speakers have excellent sound quality and can deliver high-quality audio even at loud volumes. The Sonos Move has a slightly limited low-end response, which makes it sound muddy at higher volumes. On the other hand, the Bose Portable Home Speaker has a better sound profile, especially in the bass department. I was able to adjust the audio settings via the Bose app and noticed a significant difference in the clarity of each instrument. The Sonos Move also lacks the ability to make adjustments to the audio compression.

**Features**

Both speakers have many features that are similar, including AirPlay compatibility, which means you can easily control your audio with your Apple device and create a whole home audio system. Both speakers are also Wi-Fi enabled, allowing you to stream music from the cloud or connect to a local network. The Sonos Move has been doing this for years, while the Bose Portable Home Speaker is one of the company's first Bluetooth speakers.

**Voice Assistance**

Another feature that both speakers have is voice assistance through Alexa and Google Assistant. You can control your audio and sync with your favorite music service all in one application. Both apps are compatible with both speakers, making it easy to switch between them.

**Durability and Ruggedness**

Both speakers are extremely durable and rugged, but I would argue that the Sonos Move is probably built to last through a lot more heavy drops than the Bose Portable Home Speaker. However, both speakers are also water-resistant, which makes them perfect for outdoor use.

**Conclusion**

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference when choosing between these two speakers. If you're already invested in a Sonos ecosystem and want to get an AirPlay-enabled portable speaker, then the Sonos Move is a great option. However, if you prefer a slightly better sound profile and are willing to pay a premium price tag, then the Bose Portable Home Speaker may be the way to go. While both speakers have their pros and cons, they are both excellent choices for anyone looking for a portable home speaker that can deliver high-quality sound on-the-go.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthe Sonos move and Bo's portable home speaker are two of the most recent and among some of the first airplay - compatible portable speakers and so in this video we're going to check out each speaker and see what each one has to offer before we get started be sure to subscribe and hit the bell to get notifications whenever we share a video the Sonos move is a surprisingly large and very heavy portable speaker and if I had to compare sizes it's somewhere in between a so dose one and sona's play three speaker if you own or are familiar with Sonos at all then this design will feel right at home we have an all black vertical speaker with the Sonos branding on the front and then all of your media playback controls are on the top on the back is where you'll find a few buttons there's your power button a button to link up multiple so no speakers to your setup and then a button to switch between Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities in fact both of these speakers are Wi-Fi and bluetooth equipped both speakers are also capable of charging via a standard USB C connection which is great but the Sonos move can actually be docked on this charging base which is extremely convenient there's no more forgetting to plug it in or placing it right next to the charger but being too lazy to take the extra five seconds to plug it in trust me I do this kind of a lot all you have to do is drop it on the charging base and that's it now before everyone freaks out and starts commenting yes the Bose has a charging cradle accessory and that explains what these coils are at the bottom of the speaker but it is sold separately for around $30 the Sonos moves charging cradle does come included in the box speaking of the bose portable home speaker one thing that is different compared to the move is the design in fact these are both radically different in pretty much all aspects look sighs wait etc the Bose speaker is more inline with some of the company's other 360 speakers and have the cylindrical look to them but it is made to look and feel very premium the playback and media controls are also located on and it's pretty hard to neglect this funky little handle that you can use to help carry around the speaker it's definitely useful when transporting the speaker around but I'm not really a fan of the way it looks I much prefer the clean Sonos direction where the handle is actually implemented into the speaker by grabbing the back upper lip portion of the speaker right where the buttons are located I will say that this speaker is super heavy and so transporting it around is not the most comfortable thing in the world but it's easy enough to get it around your house ultimately there are two main factors that kind of differentiate these speakers and that's the design which we just went over and the sound quality which we will get into more in just a minute but before we do that I want to give you a quick rundown of all the features that both of these speakers pretty much have in common both speakers are obviously airplay to compatible as I mentioned earlier which means you can easily control your audio with your Apple device and have a whole home audio system with just a few taps you can actually play the same song throughout or have different songs playing in different rooms now if you're not an iOS user you can achieve a similar setup by using each speakers compatible apps for setup so nose has been doing this for years and Bose is finally starting to grow its lineup of Wi-Fi speakers what's new persona says that this is one of the company's first Bluetooth speakers so when you're on the go you no longer need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network in order for the speaker to work the same goes for the Bose portable home speaker voice assistance like Alexa and Google assistant are also available through the app and both apps can control the audio and sync with your favorite music service so that you no longer have to switch between all of your media apps that you might use it's all conveniently in one application these speakers are extremely durable and rugged though I'd argue that the Sonos is probably built to last through a lot more heavy drops than the Bose based off of the size alone but both speakers are also water-resistant so something to keep in mind so as I said before it really just comes down to the design and which one you prefer and this and both speakers sound fantastic they are super powerful and capable of delivering some very high quality sound even at loud volumes I've really yet to notice any distortion or clipping from each speaker especially at louder volumes and while I do think each speaker sounds great I would probably have to lean more towards Bose in terms of overall sound quality for one I'm able to adjust the audio settings via the Bose app and I thought the Sonos move kind of lacked a little in the low-end Department which is strange considering just how massive this speaker really is I checked through the app to see if any adjustments could be made and my only option was for audio compression which I toggle on and off to see if that helped bring out each instrument a little bit more but I really couldn't notice a difference do you think the sonís move can get a bit loud compared to the Bose and since the low-end is well limited it doesn't really sound as muddy when you get to higher volumes overall each speaker sounds great and they really should considering the very high price tags of $399 for the sonís move and three hundred and forty nine dollars for the Bose respectively I'd imagine most people would go for the Bose since it is in fact cheaper and it does in my opinion have a slightly better sound profile than the Sonos move but I'm absolutely not saying that if you're already invested in a lot of Sonos speakers and the eco system then you should just start making a switch and throwing them all out and going towards Bose what I am saying is they are both great in their own rights if you're not tied down to any particular system then I guess it just makes a little bit more sense to go with Bose however the sonís move is still very good and a good pickup if an airplay to Sonos portable speaker is what you're looking for so go ahead and let me know in the comment section down below which speaker you prefer or which one you're thinking about getting this has been doubt MacRumors thanks so much for watching and I hope to see you around in the nextthe Sonos move and Bo's portable home
