**A Weekend Getaway and a Book to Match**
I'm excited to share with you my experience of taking a weekend trip to a lake house with some friends, where I brought along my book of choice. As I settled into my new surroundings, I began reading and making progress on the book. Initially, I managed to read 11 pages over the weekend, but I also got a head start in the morning, reaching page 70 by the end of the day. The story revolves around a demon prince who is likely to be the villain, but with an enemies-to-lovers romance between him and my main character. The book's premise is quite unique, with our protagonist turned into a demon, embarking on adventures in different places, meeting various beings, and navigating complex spiritual landscapes.
As I delved deeper into the story, I found myself becoming increasingly engrossed in the plot. However, my excitement was short-lived as I soon realized that the book's multiple characters and names were proving to be a challenge for me. My mind struggled to keep track of everyone, which led to feelings of frustration and boredom. Despite this, I couldn't help but be intrigued by the story's potential and decided to continue reading. With each passing page, my skepticism grew as I questioned whether this book would resonate with me.
**Reading Progress**
I'm currently on page 148, and it's clear that the author has done an excellent job of crafting a compelling narrative. However, I've found myself struggling to invest in the main character, which has made it difficult for me to become fully immersed in the story. As someone who often finds themselves questioning their own comprehension of a book, I was surprised to discover that this phenomenon is not unique to me. Many readers have experienced similar feelings when encountering complex or unfamiliar stories.
**My Reading Experience**
Throughout my reading journey, I've come to realize that book taste is incredibly subjective. Both books recommended by friends were praised for their unique aspects, and yet one resonated with me while the other didn't. This experience has left me with a newfound appreciation for the diversity of literature and the importance of considering individual perspectives when evaluating books.
**The Experiment Continues**
In an effort to broaden my reading horizons, I decided to take on a new experiment: sharing book recommendations with others and asking them about their thoughts on those same books. This exercise has allowed me to gain insight into the diverse tastes of readers and spark interesting conversations. As I reflect on this experience, I've come to appreciate the value of exploring different perspectives and considering individual opinions when evaluating literature.
**A Post-Mortem Analysis**
In a surprise twist, I discovered that one of my friends had actually DNF'd (Did Not Finish) another book at around step 200 pages. This revelation sparked an interesting discussion about why we sometimes struggle to connect with a story or character, and how our own experiences and biases can influence our reading preferences.
**A Personal Conclusion**
After completing this experiment, I've come to understand that book taste is indeed highly subjective. While both books had their unique charms, one didn't resonate with me as deeply as the other. Nevertheless, I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore different perspectives and gain insight into the diverse tastes of readers.
**The Verdict**
As I conclude my experience with these two books, I've come to appreciate the subjective nature of book taste. While both books had their strengths and weaknesses, one resonated with me while the other didn't. This has left me with a newfound appreciation for the diversity of literature and the importance of considering individual perspectives when evaluating books.
**A Newfound Appreciation**
Finally, I'd like to express my gratitude for the experience of taking on this experiment. It's inspired me to become more friendly with local librarians and sparked interesting conversations about book recommendations. As I look forward to future reading adventures, I'm excited to explore new stories and discover what resonates with others.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI've chosen the next books I read a large number of different ways from having fellow booktubers choose the books I read I had my cat choose a book for me to read but even though I'm a big Library girl I have never asked a librarian for a book wreck so today I'm going to ask my local Librarians what their favorite books are and then read them okay I'm at the library I'm so nervous I know that I shouldn't be it's like such a normal thing to be like what's your favorite book but it feels so awkward anyway I've spoted librarian that looks nice so I'm going to go ask her what her favorite book book is hello very random question do you have a favorite book Mee now Destination Unknown o okay okay the task has been completed that was not as bad as I thought I don't know why I was so nervous anyway she said Destination Unknown and she said they have it here in the young adult section so I'm going to go see if I can find it I just got back from the library and I got two different book wrecks from two different Librarians I was so nerv nervous when I asked the first librarian so I got like the worst video and audio known to man but she was so sweet I had no reason to be nervous and as you guys saw she recommended me Destination Unknown and she said they had it available in the young adult section so I went over to the young adult section to find it and I could not find it anywhere so there was a librarian working in the young adult section and I asked her if she could help me find this book and then she also gave me a book wreck of a book that she loves she just said it like unprompted without me even asking so I like didn't have my camera ready and I wasn't filming but she recommended 1 th000 steps inight and this one is also young adults we've got two young adult books Let's WR up this video I generally love young adult books so I feel like I'll really like both of these this first one Destination Unknown it's historical fiction it takes place in the 1980s in New York City and it follows Micah and CJ who are both gay and might have a romance going on CU it says that Micah is attracted to and afraid of someone who travels so loudly and profoundly through the night and then I also think it deals with the AIDS epidemic that is going on during the'80s it says as their lives become more and more entangled in the AIDS epidemic that's laying waste to their community and the AIDS activism that will ultimately bring a strong voice to their demands whatever mic CJ have between them will be tested stretched and strained this book all I know from what the librarian told me is that the main character turns into a demon and it's fantasy and that already sounds like really interesting it says that this book takes place in a realm where there are Gods monsters and humans who exist side by side and are main character who's an inke Keeper's daughter is cursed and begins transforming into a demon and then she embarks on a quest to reverse the curse and return to her normal life and then it says at the bottom that this book is a Japanese influence fantasy brimming with demons adventure and plans gone arry I think I'm going to start reading tomorrow morning with Destination Unknown our two main characters are Micah and CJ and I really like Micah Micah I feel like so protective of him he is out to some people in his life but not his parents and not out to everybody he feels like a very innocent character very shy like I said we're in the middle of the AIDS epidemic and he is very scared of any risk of catching AIDS so he's just very very careful and understandably very anxious about that and then we have CJ who in a lot of ways is very very opposite of Micah CJ is loud he's bold he's confident he's very open about being gay one thing that I'm very unsure what to make of his character is that he lies a lot they're not like malicious lies he seems to kind of just like make up things about his life plays different parts puts on different identities for different people I feel like it's probably a defense mechanism but I also don't want him to hurt mikon anyway now I think I'm going to go sit at the library and read it feels very unbrand to do a lot of reading at the library in this video and I kind of want to ask more Librarians what their favorite books are get some more book wrecks so yeah let's go to the library then I decided to ask more Librarians for book Rex I talked to the nicest guy he was so friendly and he gave me a great book recommendation I'm making a video where I like ask strangers their favorite books can I ask what your favorite book is depends on the moment of the day yeah it's hard or like one you've recently read that you like it's the classic Doom that's the first thing I'm thinking of that's a good one I've been debating reading and to me there's only three books in the trilogy there's not six there's a really cute librarian on the other side of the shelf so I'm going to ask him what his favorite book is excuse me I was wondering if you have a favorite book no I can't read but I do have a favorite game love and pies is a really fun cozy bacon game okay thank you then I headed home so I could play Love and pies thank you so much to love and& pies for sponsoring this video and a big thank you to my boyfriend um I mean the librarian for recommending this game my favorite thing about love and pies is that the world and storyline are so captivating it feels just like reading a book I'm currently on day 21 of love and pies and the days are pretty long so that's pretty far into it I just love it so much it's so cozy the gameplay is really fun and the story line is also so fun basically you're following Amelia her mom disappears in the cafe that her mom owns burns down which is crazy so Amelia is investigating The Disappearance of her mother and like what happened with this fire while also trying to rebuild the cafe so for the game play you match ingredients in order to like make pies you can make sandwiches and then you serve those to customers and then with the money you make it goes towards decorating the cafe let me show you my Cafe because I'm so proud of it and there's like a little outdoor and indoor seating area and then my favorite part is the kitchen cuz I just made it so colorful and then also later in the game there there's like a book moment where customers start ordering books and that made me so excited I feel like I'm living out my like Bakery Bookshop owner dreams so I just think L pies is perfect if you're a reader because you'll love the story line it's great if you love baking decorating and it's completely free to download you can click the link in the description to download L pies on iOS or Android seriously become like such a staple in my day today for relaxing and just getting cozy back to talking about the book I'm currently on page 196 this book I think is going to have some more romance in it as we go but so far it's like pretty much like general fiction very like coming of age story of Micah I felt like a little hit or miss with just more general fiction books in the past I think I'm like really like a genre girl love to delve into like fantasy or romance or mystery but I'm surprised how much I'm liking this book I think just everything that Micah is going through and navigating is really interesting and I think the author is like tackling a lot of the challenges Micah is facing in his life really well also let me set you guys down when I was at the library today I asked two Librarians for their book wreks the first guy said Dune which made me so happy because I've really been debating reading Dune I don't think I'm going to read it in this video just because I'm in the middle of so many series but I do really want to read Dune one day so I was happy to hear that he loves it and then I asked the second librarian his favorite book he did not want to be on camera which totally fine and he said he wrote it down for me so I could remember the name because it has kind of a weird name pero Street Station which he said is a science fiction book and he was so confident in his pick like I feel like a lot of people are like oh I don't know like it's so hard to decide which I totally get it would be hard for me to decide on a favorite book but he was immediately like Pito Street Station he knew he was confident let me look it up ooh okay it's kind of vague a little bit but that kind of makes me a little more intrigued it follows this guy who is a very gifted and Ecentric scientist and he's approached by a half bird half human creature who has a scientific request for him that is very daunting and it says the main character Isaac the scientist is sparked by his own curiosity and an uncanny reverence for this curious stranger oh my gosh it is 710 pages and it is also the first book in a series so also probably not going to read this book in this video but good to know good to keep an eye out for I think I'm still going to stick with our first two books for the two books that I read in this video but I'm glad I got more book Rags from other Librarians I think it's just like so interesting to see what other people are reading cuz I feel like in my circle of like friends and the internet everyone is like kind of reading similar things so just start people who are reading very different books is yeah just cool to hear about I've done so much reading this morning I'm on page 256 so I only have like 30 pages left I'm almost done and I'm feeling way more invested in the book now the beginning of the book kind of balances like heavy themes but still keeps an overall light tone and now we are definitely more into like the very serious meat of the book we also find out way more about CJ and his character like his whole backstory his whole true backstory and I just want to give him a hug and never let him go I think now that I know so much more about him I really understand his character really love love his character the book just deals with so many really tough topics so well which I really appreciate I think I'm going to finish the book and then we'll dive into that more in my final review I just finished the book and I also read the author's note I did not expect the author's note of all parts of the book to be the part that made me tear up I want to read you this little paragraph in the author's notee the author is talking about what it was like for him to come up age in the early days of AIDS and he says I equated sex with death I felt that I wasn't worthy of living and that no one really cared at all if people like me died 35 years later I'm still here the guilt I feel about being spared HIV is too painful so I tried to avoid that line of thinking I wrote this book so that people could experience what I experienced in that time and place I just loved the breath of topics that the author covers how hard it is to come out and then also once you're out how hard it is to be out all of the prejudice and discrimination and hate and then this is like the height of the AIDS epidemic and just how much misinformation they had little information they had and again just like all the hate towards anyone with AIDS or remotely like associated with AIDS in any way and just how horrible of a disease it is and then Micah and CJ are two M characters are literally teenagers and how much they're going through as te teenagers like one thing that always made me kind of sick to my stomach with CJ is he was so young and he had so many relationships with older men and just how harmful that can be just thinking about this challenge of having a librarian recommend me a book it's so cool that this is a book I would have probably never picked up on my own yeah I'm just glad that I was recommended it I think I'm going to say four stars overall for my rating just because it did take me a little bit to get into the book and some parts of the book moved a little slower for me but overall I really liked it and I would definitely recommend it to every especially if you're really interested in any of these topics okay moving on to book two it feels weird to move on to a new book cuz this one is just like not all sad but definitely heavier so I got to like clear my head for book two our next book 1 th000 steps into night I'm excited for this book because it's fantasy and young adult which is definitely my comfort zone but also a little nervous because it's still out of my comfort zone in so many ways and I'm actually going on a little weekend trip I'm going to a lake house with some friends so I'm going to bring this book with me and start it there okay I'm going to go pack and I will see you guys probably on Monday when I get back from my weekend trip I did such little reading I only read 11 pages over the weekend but I did do some reading this morning and read to page 70 there's a demon prince in the book who I'm pretty sure is supposed to be the villain like he is definitely being set up as a villain but the romance girly and me is like do we have enemies to lovers I don't think so but I hope so yeah overall thoughts on the book so far far the book is quite different from fantasy I would traditionally read which I feel a little bit mixed on on the one hand it's like quite cool to read something where I really have like no idea where the plot is going I feel like I've read enough fantasy and romance and Romany where I can like kind of guess like the traditional like plot Arc the book is going to fall this one is so different so I'm like I have no idea what's going to happen next basically our main character is turned into a demon it's very like Adventure Vibes where she's like having to like go to different places and she's like meeting different people and different like beings like like Spirits demons humans monsters Gods but there also just like so many names of people and places I would say I'd rather be more engross in the story than constantly like trying to keep track of all the different parts and characters in my head Danny and I tried this new bakery near us this morning and this is incredible anyway let's talk about the book I'm on page 148 and to be honest I'm struggling with this one which I'm so bummed about because I think the premise is so fun like a girl who is cursed to turn into a demon and she's got to go on this adventure to break the curse like I love that that's so fun but yeah I've been doing this thing I feel like everyone has done this with at least one if not several books in their life where I'm like reading reading reading and then I'm like oh my gosh I have not comprehended anything I've just read and I have to go back and reread that part I think is I just keep losing focus like the book is like not holding my attention that well and I was trying to figure out why because it has all the makings for a book I would love and I think I'm just not that invested in the main character if I don't feel that invested in the main character I'm not that invested in the story and then I start to get bored and that's kind of what's Happening here but it's so subjective like this book does have so many great reviews I feel like whether or not we bond with characters is dependent on so many things about like just ourselves personally like whether you find that character relatable engaging Etc I'm still very intrigued to see like how it's going to end where the plot's going I'm going to keep reading but I'm very skeptical that this is going to be like a super highly rated book for me personally I have officially decided to dnf a th000 steps into night I got fairly far I got to page like 200 something but I just I don't know could not focus on reading it just didn't feel that invested but I did finish reading the like plot of the book there was like a chapter breakdown on this like Spark Notes kind of website and so I'm glad I got to like finish the plot and like see how it ended uh for my writing I think I'm going to say 2.75 stars are probably rounded up to three stars on good reads I think the like epic adventure of the fantasy was really fun there were so many other fun elements like demons and spirits and a curse But ultimately there was just like way too many characters for me I feel like my brain Felt So scatterbrained reading this book now it's time to answer the question do librarians have Superior book taste yes no I don't know I think my conclusion after reading two random strangers book recommendations is that book taste is so subjective Ive I think both of these books are objectively good books but one resonated with me and one didn't yeah this is like a fun experiment just to see what other people are reading will I like what other people are reading and I used to go to the library all the time kind of want to start going more now after this video maybe it'll inspire me to become more friendly with all my local Librarians anyway I will see you guys in my next video bye ohI've chosen the next books I read a large number of focus like the book is like not holding my attention that well and I was trying to figure out why because it has all the makings for a book I would love and I think I'm just not that invested in the main character if I don't feel that invested in the main character I'm not that invested in the story and then I start to get bored and that's kind of what's Happening here but it's so subjective like this book does have so many great reviews I feel like whether or not we bond with characters is dependent on so many things about like just ourselves personally like whether you find that character relatable engaging Etc I'm still very intrigued to see like how it's going to end where the plot's going I'm going to keep reading but I'm very skeptical that this is going to be like a super highly rated book for me personally I have officially decided to dnf a th000 steps into night I got fairly far I got to page like 200 something but I just I don't know could not focus on reading it just didn't feel that invested but I did finish reading the like plot of the book there was like a chapter breakdown on this like Spark Notes kind of website and so I'm glad I got to like finish the plot and like see how it ended uh for my writing I think I'm going to say 2.75 stars are probably rounded up to three stars on good reads I think the like epic adventure of the fantasy was really fun there were so many other fun elements like demons and spirits and a curse But ultimately there was just like way too many characters for me I feel like my brain Felt So scatterbrained reading this book now it's time to answer the question do librarians have Superior book taste yes no I don't know I think my conclusion after reading two random strangers book recommendations is that book taste is so subjective Ive I think both of these books are objectively good books but one resonated with me and one didn't yeah this is like a fun experiment just to see what other people are reading will I like what other people are reading and I used to go to the library all the time kind of want to start going more now after this video maybe it'll inspire me to become more friendly with all my local Librarians anyway I will see you guys in my next video bye oh\n"
