The Samsung Galaxy S24 Fe is one of the few flagship phones still selling in the $600 to $700 price level, and it has the specs to match that. The phone features an Exynos 2400e processor, which is an interesting choice given Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are commonly used in other flagship devices. This decision makes the Galaxy S24 Fe a bit more like Google's Pixel line and even Apple's iPhone line by using its own processor.
Google uses a Tensor chip, Apple uses its own A series of chips, but Samsung has chosen to go with the Exynos 2400e processor. The performance benchmarks show that the Galaxy S24 Fe is just a hair slower than the more expensive $800 Galaxy S24 running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, this is still pretty good considering it's $150 cheaper.
Samsung's biggest push on the Galaxy S24 Fe is its AI capabilities. The phone features Galaxy AI, which includes live translation, note summarization, and generative image features. This technology allows for seamless functionality across various Samsung devices. The phone also has Google Circle to search, which is a useful feature that I've had a lot of fun with - scanning flowers and plants here at the Highline.
Galaxy AI is not exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series; Samsung has updated earlier phones with this technology as well. To test how much faster these AI features run on the S24 Fe versus last year's S23 Fe, we scanned a Fantastic 4 comic book using both phones. Both performed well, but the S24 was slightly faster at pulling up the scan.
Next, we took office favorite Celsius energy drinks and did a generative sketch-to-image feature to change the logo of the orange on the can. The phone's ability to generate different logo options quickly made this task fun. However, after doing this a few times, it started to feel repetitive, which may be an issue with Galaxy AI.
For testing, I pulled up my colleague Katie Collins' article about energy in Scotland and both phones pulled it up at roughly the same amount of time. The summaries were largely similar points, and translating it into Spanish was also done similarly well by both devices. While this test showed that Galaxy AI features work across both the S24 Fe and last year's S23 Fe, there was a slight speed improvement with the newer phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Fe cameras feature a 50MP wide lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens. These cameras are similar in specs to last year's S23 Fe but come with AI and enhanced processing, which should help take better photos in challenging environments - especially darker settings.
One drawback of the Galaxy S24 Fe is that it uses a less powerful processor than some other flagship phones. This may be an issue for those who want the latest and greatest specs. Instead, they can consider the more expensive Galaxy S24 series or wait until next year when Samsung releases the Galaxy S25 Series.
For those looking for a phone with a great screen, new features, and 7 years of software support and security updates at a $650 price level, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Fe could be an excellent choice. With its Exynos 2400e processor, AI capabilities, and large screen, this phone offers a compelling package.
