AKG_Massdrop K7XX & CEntrance DACport Slim

The Author's Disclaimer: A Reluctant Reviewer

As I begin this review, I want to preface it by saying that I am not an audiophile, nor do I go out of my way to find high-quality audio files with lossless compression. My ears are not sophisticated enough to pinpoint subtle intricacies in the frequency spectrum, and I often struggle to hear nuances in sound quality. However, I do have a strong appreciation for good sound, and I believe that this is an essential aspect of enjoying music.

Testing the AKG K7XX Headphones

I'm excited to share with you my thoughts on the AKG K7XX headphones, which are a collaborative limited-edition release between AKG and Mast Drop. These headphones were fine-tuned to target a wider frequency response and sound stage than their predecessor, the critically acclaimed K702 65th Anniversary Edition. Despite borrowing the same 455mm dynamic drivers, the K7XX has been tweaked to deliver an exceptional listening experience.

The design of the K7XX is sleek and alluring, with an all-black aesthetic that keeps things simple yet stylish. However, I have to admit that the overear design is quite bulky, which may make it difficult to travel with comfortably. On the other hand, the sound leakage from the open-back design means that these headphones are better suited for home use, where you can enjoy the music without disturbing others.

One of the standout features of the K7XX is the bungee headband, made of leather and designed to automatically adjust to your head size. This feature works in conjunction with the 360° ear cup swivel to create a truly customized fit for each listener's unique shape. The clamping force of the headband could be tighter, but overall, these headphones are incredibly comfortable, especially when compared to my prized DT880 Pros.

The K7XX also comes with a detachable 108-inch cable, which exits the left ear cup via a three-pin connector and locks securely into place. This thoughtful design feature prevents accidental unplugging of the headphones. In terms of sound quality, I'm thrilled to report that the K7XX delivers tremendous quality that matches and even surpasses my tried-and-true daily drivers.

The Sound Stage is not as open or airy as some of my other favorite headphones, such as the DT880 Pros. However, there's plenty of imaging and spaciousness to keep the sound from feeling enclosed or boxed in. The emphasis on low frequencies creates an immense bass presence that's tight and articulate without overpowering the music. Genres like pop rock, EDM, dubstep, and classic rock are absolute joys to listen to with these headphones.

In addition to their impressive sound quality, the K7XX also performs wonderfully for gaming. I recommend pairing them with a mod mic if you plan on voice chatting, as this will help to enhance your overall experience. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with the AKG K7XX, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an exceptional listening experience.

Connecting the Dport Amplifier: A Game-Changer

In addition to the AKG K7XX headphones, I also had the pleasure of testing out the CEntrance DPort amplifier. This compact amplifier is designed to work seamlessly with a wide range of headphones, and it's clear that CEntrance has done an excellent job in crafting an exceptional audio component.

When connected to the K7XX headphones, the DPort amplifier takes on a whole new level of importance. The sound quality is transformed from good to extraordinary, with the emphasis on low frequencies becoming even more pronounced. The amplification also helps to eliminate any noticeable noise or distortion at max volume, creating an incredibly immersive listening experience.

I must admit that I was blown away by the DPort amplifier, and it's clear that CEntrance has set a new standard for compact audio components. If you're in the market for an amplifier that will enhance your music listening experience, I highly recommend checking out the DPort amplifier.

Conclusion: A Pairing Worth Trying

As I conclude this review, I want to emphasize that both the AKG K7XX headphones and the CEntrance DPort amplifier are exceptional products that have won me over. While they're not perfect, they're certainly close enough to justify their prices.

I'm excited to report that these products will be making a permanent appearance in my personal tech inventory, as I've found them to be reliable, durable, and incredibly enjoyable to use. If you're in the market for high-quality headphones or an amplifier to enhance your music listening experience, I highly recommend checking out the AKG K7XX and CEntrance DPort amplifier.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoffering only the finest in PC Enthusiast apparel awesome sauce shirts are not only threaded they're hyper threaded and come factory overclo get yours today at the awesome sauce store what's up guys so allow me to preface this video by saying that I am not an audio file by any stretch I don't go out of my way to find only the highest quality files with lossless compression nor are my ears sophisticated enough to pinpoint subtle intricacies on frequency spectrum perhaps that's why my wife always thinks I'm tuning her out when I really just can't hear her now that being said I do have a strong appreciation for Quality sound and my ears still know whether they're being fed gold or garbage so from a relatively Average Joe's perspective today I'll be testing out some audio Hardware from Mast drop including these k7xx headphones from AKG and the dport slim from sea entrance so starting with the headphones the k7xx is a collaborative limited edition release manufacturer by AKG and configured by mast drop themselves the initiative comes 3 years after the critically acclaimed k702 65th anniversary edition and despite borrowing the same 455mm Dynamic drivers these 62 ohm headphones have been fine-tuned to Target a wider frequency response and Sound Stage than their unspoken predecessor at the alluring price point of just $200 an all black aesthetic keeps the can stylish yet subtle for those who prefer Simplicity and while the overe design is definitely on the bulky side it's as light as a feather thanks to the thin and flexible yet sturdy plastic frame I'm going to go out on a limb here and say these headphones are too big to travel with comfortably but the sound leakage that comes from an open back design means you're better off keeping these for home use anyway as to be courteous to others in public remember folks sharing is caring unless it's body odor needles or you're on the- Go music the bungee headband is made of leather and automatically adjusts to your head size and this works alongside the 360° ear cup swivel to create a truly customized fit for that lopsided melon of yours as you can see here it fits mine rather well I'll admit the clamping force of the headband could be a bit tighter especially given the extreme softness and comfort of the velour covered memory foam ear pads the wide inner diameter also lets my ears fit perfectly inside without being rubbed up against making these headphones even more comfortable for prolonged use dare I say than my prized biodynamic dt880 Pros I'm going to call it right now guys larger cup sizes are just better for everyone included is a detached 108 in cable which exits the left ear cup via a three pin connector and locks securely into place to prevent accidental unplugging you also get a threaded goldplated quarter-inch adapter as well now up until this point I've had yet to review a pair of headphones that rival the Heavenly sound of my dt80 Pros since buying them 3 years ago but today I'm absolutely beside myself when I say that the k7xx delivers tremendous quality that matches and even surpasses in some cases the sound of my tried andrue daily drivers while while the Sound Stage isn't nearly as open or Airy as the 880s there's plenty of Imaging and spaciousness to keep the sound from feeling enclosed or boxed in a heavy emphasis on low frequencies creates an immense bass presence that's tight and articulate without stealing the show which makes genres like pop rock EDM dubstep and classic rock an absolute joy to listen to Country still sounds horrible as usual mids and vocals also sound crystal clear with a high level of detail that had me hooked on selenon for longer than I'm willing to admit the case that xx's also perform wonderfully for gaming I just recommend picking up something akin to a mod mic if you plan on voice chatting one word of caution for potential buyers is that the drivers are extremely power hungry and while the advertised 62 ohm impedance doesn't seem too demanding these feel closer to my 250 ohm 880s and I found that playback at max volume could stand to be a bit louder with some more oomph that brings us right along to the Dak Port Slim from sea entrance I couldn't help but be a little skeptical at first by the looks of this rocket sized ampda combo but holy beius it seriously took my listening experience to a whole new level when plugging in some high impedance headphones like the K7 xx's and even my DT 880s the unit connects to your laptop or PC with the included micro USB cable and features an 8in headphone jack volume wheel and recessed gain switch there is a universal driver I had to download but within a minute or two I was enjoying louder clearer and more detailed sound than I've heard since testing the Thousand Tesla t1s at CES back in January now as you might imagine the K7 xx's had already left me impressed on their own but after connecting the dport to it I derailed entirely from my review process and went on an hour-long Spotify binge eating up all the ear candy I could find needless to say faces were melted those of you who like your headphones extra loud will also appreciate the near absence of any noticeable noise or Distortion at max volume just be prepared to get some serious Goosebumps when going to 11 if you don't already have a sound card or an external amp deck this unit is definitely worth the hundred bucks you'll pay for it if you plan on pairing it with a strong set of headphones and feeding it good audio as we round out this review let me just close by saying it's not too often that I receive a product from a vendor review it and then immediately add it to my personal Tech inventory but somehow today M drop AKG and C entrance have managed to make two products which I've decided to start using on a daily basis for the foreseeable future because they're just that good at the moment they are both sold out on M drop I don't want to end on a downer though so if you'd like to receive a notification for when they return in November presumably you can use the links I've put in the description below and
