we've got a theory on what went wrong but uh we'll find out here shortly i'm curious to see yeah we're dropping the fluids right now shouldn't be too much longer we'll have the side cover off and we should know what's up sick you guys are the best i'm so stoked best i was telling them i was like every every day for like maybe a week i was just convinced that it was just a weird electrical thing so i'd go and press the starter button press the starter button but you all seem pretty confident you know what it is so i think so there's a one-way bearing in here a sprite clutch that it seems has just failed and is no longer grabbing the flywheel and spinning the engine over so that's really the only complicated part in this starting system everything else is very simple so pretty good idea that that's going to be the cause we got a new one ready to go so all right well let's find out i got my hand on it if i land this first try you have to buy these trucks ready that was like the weird actual time when it was first try and it wasn't like a thousand tries of me saying first try oh bluetooth turbo setup i can't see anything can't see anything arctic camo dude it's still taking me like three minutes to understand your joke all right so i want to close this video talking a little bit more about the lz invitational everyone's going to be coming into town like as soon as next week and i wanted to share with you guys what the official grand prize is and that's gonna be the video where i dive into all the nitty gritty and all the details but that grand prize won't be here until wednesday so on wednesday's upload we're going to dive more and talk about it i know a lot of you guys have been asking about certain people if and why they aren't coming and all i got to say is it was really tough to choose the 16 drivers that i did but every single one of them is either someone that is so close to me or has done a lot for me and this event isn't supposed to be like the best drivers in the world there's just people that i think are really rad that are going to have a great time that i think will put on a great show for you guys i have a few friends as well they're going to be there giving ride-alongs and hanging out and gym with all of us doing a little bit of driving but for the most part it's a low key event i'm trying to keep it low stress since i've never had a drift event try to not have a bajillion drivers if this goes well in the future i might do some drift events where it is open to the public we have bigger competitions bigger payouts and a way bigger driver field we got a lot to uh sort out in the next two weeks before the event comes a couple people are having issues joining the members section of the youtube channel there should be a button now underneath this video but i know originally it was taken for a while to pop up but basically by doing that it's kind of like a pay-per-view i just decided logistically that it was much easier to do it on youtube for streaming purposes and for the sake that it gets push notifications to all you guys so we sold a good amount of tickets vip's almost sold out we have plenty of seats we still have quite a bit of general admission but i do recommend getting some tickets because i don't think that we're going to have any for sale at the gate at the rate that things are going so i want to say thank you to you guys it's been a lot of positivity a lot of people that are stoked and i have to say there's going to be some little reveals over the next two weeks leading up to the event that i think you're gonna get you guys more and more and more stoked as you see what we got in store so i want to thank you guys for watching the video it was a quick one just got back from austin i got three days here before we're off to pri and i got a lot of stuff we've got to get done because we got to get ready because everyone's coming hope you guys like this video appreciate you evo reps stoked to get that thing on track hopefully in the next hopefully before everyone comes and we're gonna have some fun if you have any questions about the lz invitational i will dive as much detail as i possibly can in the video that is coming on wednesday so ask it here and i will talk about it then thank you guys and i'll see you soon
Evo 5 Shreds the Compound!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat is up guys welcome to today's video first thing we're going to start with i'm back from colette's race over in austin texas i'm going to be doing a track day with the evo very soon but i haven't gotten a chance to drive it since we tuned it i d registered the evo when i thought the engine was hurt so i can't drive it on the street so we blocked off the compound and i'm gonna do a little bit of track simulation to make sure that everything's okay uh i won't unfortunately be able to get it registered before i go back to the firm so for now i'm just gonna check and make sure everything's good with the tune if not i can have jimmy remote in and play with it uh we just basically did wide open pulls on the dyno and i haven't gotten to do any partial throttle stuff but it should be pretty good from uh prior time soon in the car so we're gonna go test it see how it feels and it's gonna be fun ripping this thing full tilt on the compound because we officially haven't really driven any grip cars here yet let's do it i'm gonna do a little bit of tire warm up just to make sure everything's at temp get a little heat in the brakes the car's been dripping in a while probably gonna rub a little bit at the compound because of all the bumps and everything i love this turbo setup i'm trying to make the biggest course i can here but i haven't really done a lot of grip driving here so we'll see how it feels this corner is gonna be fun god it snaps into the corners like mental i need to put the seat back in it words don't describe it so the way this thing falls down that straight like it feels like insanely fast compared to before like second gear doesn't really give you the full taste but once i hit third on that straight it is like i feel like this might be one of the fastest cars i own like even in a straight line it is wild it's on the r34 i'm sorry r34 i want to give sean a ride all right the combat actually works pretty good for testing aside for the fact that i can't really get out of second gear is this thing ignorant bro this is ridiculous biggest miles ever oh my god bro that's nuts this is the most ignorant car i own oh my gosh you could drive i can't do that that's sick definitely not the most optimal like circuit for a evo but it works that was sick tune feels great that was the whole point of this i got so caught up in having fun like partial throttle no issues nothing yeah she's a ripper this thing's ignorant ridiculous i can't imagine at the firm you go all the way to fifth or what's up you go to the you go to fifth gear yeah oh yeah i'll go to the gate and i'll do a pull just make sure it's good and higher gears well yeah no it goes to fifth wow then i go down through all the years oh my god this thing's so ignorant yeah this thing's rubbing on the fenders a little bit but not too bad yeah did you do that without me in there oh yeah i just want to start pulling high dudes on the bank usually just a little but it's not too bad damn this thing's sick while we're on the topic of amazing cars this girl right here a lot of people want to know where she's been at if you don't remember the saga of this thing built it basically turned into a daily up in connecticut when i went and ran away up there for the summer and it was awesome made like 600 wheel made a ton of torque ripped very little issues you know i had to bolt check it now and then i changed the turbo i messed with a couple little things but overall this thing probably has more miles than any car of this level that i've built apart from the chaser as just being my favorite street car you know it's got decent seats in it it's got ac it's cool it made nice sounds it revved out to eight grand but i was never stoked about how the power would always roll over but part of the problem is on the series two heads they have hydraulic lifters and the biggest cameo fits like a 256 so no matter what you're always gonna have that power roll over and i wanted this thing to pull really hard up top so i could have better traction because once you run out of tire which i did on this thing with the slicks that i was basically running on the street the trick is to keep the torque the same all the way through and then you won't just be like blowing the tires off in the mid range and then falling off up top so to do that i wanted to do a neo head and ironically or i shouldn't say ironically but coincidentally on the dyno the last time when i went to a bigger turbo to try to remove some of that torque it broke the crank what i think caused it we were having alternator slippage issues i think a combination of having a damper that a lot of australians seem to swear causes broken cranks plus having an alternator that probably had a bit too much tension it doesn't have a normal tensioner so you'd always have to use a pry bar and we probably just over tensioned it it broke the snout uh now it's a non-interference motor so i'm hoping that internals are all fine and everything's good but we've been building a spare engine on the side which should be ready hopefully within the next month it's hks28 crank it's a neo head with custom 272 kelford cams i'm gonna be running a g35 900 in it cp pistons i don't remember if we went crazy with compression or what it's got bc rods all the oiling mods and i'm hoping to make in the high 700s maybe low 800s but rev out to 9 grand and keep 600 foot pounds of torque everywhere rather than just 650 foot pounds of torque and then sean has been working on getting this thing pulled out and michael put that footage in now so part of the reason why we are starting to tear at the r32 is because we're at the point where mike our engine builder down south wants to balance the rotating assembly with everything so he wants the damper he wants the trigger he wants the crank bolt and of course the flywheel and clutch so i wanted to take an inspection and see what the flywheel and clutch look like and surprisingly for the abuse that it's seen it's not all that bad a couple hot spots here and there but i still got a decent amount of life left i'm gonna replace everything while it's out i can get a new uh plate for the actual like adapter clutch so i'm gonna order one of those and that way he has everything that will be on the crank so he can balance it because once you start getting at high rpm ranges a little bit of imbalance can make a huge difference and can make everything really mad so trying to go as overkill as i can this thing's gonna be a bad setup now it's time to pull the rest out and maybe we'll dive into this engine in this video or maybe it'll be in another one what do you think of the evo no puke good i'm good good no puke look at this thing in retrospect now i kind of wonder what this car would have been like with a zf instead of a cd a lot of people have been asking me lately since i've been a big zf guy kind of the differences my biggest complaint about the cd is really big and bulky so if you're doing a five speed zf all the way win but for a street car the six speed 335 box that i have in the green silvia is sick still a little bit bigger i think the cd is still bigger than that but it's obviously bigger than the z5 speed my thing that i like about zf the most though is the shifter they don't like insane amounts of shock so it's important to run like a clutch delay valve or not an insane clutch setup but the shifter being remote mounted versus the cd where you have to run these weird adapter shifters that shorten the throw way too much and make it hard to find the gear i would prefer the zf shifter over that and the 335 trans is known to hold well over 800 wheel and it still shifts real nice so i think cost to feel wise the zf wins but this is actually one of the few cars where i've enjoyed the cd somehow i don't know that this is a controversial thing but it appears to be in videos whenever people see that we don't run cooling in cars we run distilled water most tracks require that we don't have coolant spills on the track we also live in florida when we see freezing temperatures it works it's great we're not here to discuss that but i am sick of tired every freaking time i go to publix every time i go to walgreens they're out of distilled water i go to the manager to go more distilled water back nope that's all we have sir but we need like three to six gallons every time we're doing a belt because you know we gotta put it in then we find a leaf and we take it out and then we put it back in but i go to the manager one time i'm like upset because ever so i'd be like yo dude give me a pallet of distilled water i'll buy it all i'll buy it all and he goes sure next thing you know we got a pallet of distilled water so uh don't ever buy it online you can just go to like your local grocery store or i think many people do it at costco and it's the same unit price so it was a dollar a gallon instead of like multiple dollars online because you pay for shipping and i don't know how many this is it one two three four five six seven eight nine ten by one two three four five so fifty so probably about like 250 gallons of distilled water sick thank god we got space also on another note i think the sr that i just bought was underwater maybe in a flood oops 360 shot first though ready ready ready was nice with it the side by side boys doug and matter here what are you what are you getting into we're back to right some wrongs here so uh yeah this thing wasn't starting you guys saw that so uh we flew back down here with a bunch of parts and we're gonna tear into it and see what's going on we got a pretty good idea we've got a theory on what went wrong but uh we'll find out here shortly i'm curious to see yeah we're dropping the fluids right now shouldn't be too much longer we'll have the side cover off and we should know what's up sick you guys are the best i'm so stoked best i was telling them i was like every every day for like maybe a week i was just convinced that it was just a weird electrical thing so i'd go and press the starter button press the starter button but you all seem pretty confident you know what it is so i think so there's a one-way bearing in here a sprite clutch that it seems has just failed and is no longer grabbing the flywheel and spinning the engine over so that's really the only complicated part in this starting system everything else is very simple so pretty good idea that that's going to be the cause we got a new one ready to go so all right well let's find out i got my hand on it if i land this first try you have to buy these trucks ready that was like the weird actual time when it was first try and it wasn't like a thousand tries of me saying first try oh bluetooth turbo setup i can't see anything can't see anything arctic camo dude it's still taking me like three minutes to understand your joke all right so i want to close this video talking a little bit more about the lz invitational everyone's going to be coming into town like as soon as next week and i wanted to share with you guys what the official grand prize is and that's gonna be the video where i dive into all the nitty gritty and all the details but that grand prize won't be here until wednesday so on wednesday's upload we're going to dive more and talk about it i know a lot of you guys have been asking about certain people if and why they aren't coming and all i got to say is it was really tough to choose the 16 drivers that i did but every single one of them is either someone that is so close to me or has done a lot for me and this event isn't supposed to be like the best drivers in the world there's just people that i think are really rad that are going to have a great time that i think will put on a great show for you guys i have a few friends as well they're going to be there giving ride-alongs and hanging out and gym with all of us doing a little bit of driving but for the most part it's a low key event i'm trying to keep it low stress since i've never had a drift event and try to not have a bajillion drivers but if this goes well in the future i might do some drift events where it is open to the public we have bigger competitions bigger payouts and a way bigger driver field we got a lot to uh sort out in the next two weeks before the event comes a couple people are having issues joining the members section of the youtube channel there should be a button now underneath this video but i know originally it was taken for a while to pop up but basically by doing that it's kind of like a pay-per-view i just decided logistically that it was much easier to do it on youtube for streaming purposes and for the sake that it gets push notifications to all you guys so we sold a good amount of tickets vip's almost sold out we have plenty of seats we still have quite a bit of general admission but i do recommend getting some tickets because i don't think that we're going to have any for sale at the gate at the rate that things are going so i want to say thank you to you guys it's been a lot of positivity a lot of people that are stoked and i have to say there's going to be some little reveals over the next two weeks leading up to the event that i think you're gonna get you guys more and more and more stoked as you see what we got in store so i want to thank you guys for watching the video it was a quick one just got back from austin i got three days here before we're off to pri and i got a lot of stuff we've got to get done because we got to get ready because everyone's coming hope you guys like this video appreciate you evo reps stoked to get that thing on track hopefully in the next hopefully before everyone comes and we're gonna have some fun if you have any questions about the lz invitational i will dive as much detail as i possibly can in the video that
