The Year of Innovation: A Look at CES 2017

competition I'm kidding what would you what is the best thing that you guys have seen so far what what got you jazzed I like I like seeing the the unnamed Blackberry the the Mercury just because it's something that I mean I wasn't really expecting I mean maybe I should n on that man no we got our video up it's not n anymore it's good fully all right all right well the uh yes I agree with that and you which of you guys got to wait did you any of you get to see the Blackberry yesterday I did not see it I got to see pictur of video you got you shoot the pictures of video what you oh no I didn't I it's like the Bold Evolution like the Blackberry Bowl it's more like a priv without the sliding yeah but that's why I think of a b like I don't like it man you really don't like it I like the priv design okay design I don't know cuz if you can slide away the keyboard and no longer use it then why would you ever use it some people like the talk tole feedback I I do too for some situations when you want to type for longer you use the actual keybo it was like a touchpad it has a touchpad basically that was cool thank you so much thank you so much oh my God it's a mug of whis what's happening honestly today I got really excited by the isus stuff that I covered it did look really good I mean like you know I'm a camera photography so I'm very excited about this because it's the closest thing on Android hey yeah got more of the team over here it's the closest C have to uh to an iPhone 7 plus on Android at a much more full price point with Incredible battery life well okay this is my question then previous the Asus Zen phone Zoom the original did you even like it though I didn't get a chance to play with one so so I did I spent a long time with that zoom and I reviewed it I I did I did the first one the first one so like the design was like absolute the camera the camera saying what's the no no the camera was actually better than the iPhone on Zoom okay yeah that it name was about it totally won from everything everything I've heard about the sensor wasn't good enough everything else like the Zoom idea was sound the the you know the the the lenses were pretty good the ois it had ois it just had a shitty sensor okay so and this thing doesn't have a shady sensor so hopefully did you mess like it kind of felt it didn't really look that software though that's all software yeah yeah that's cool guys I don't think it's ready for relas trying to help haato say his piece over there to a lot of that's going to have to do with the software right because you know what other phones have that sensor the pixel and the HGC 10 here's the htc10 and the pixel are so far from each other yet they have the same sensor and in fact the 10 is better cuz it has a y so and on the front LS exactly here's my problem with the with the Zen phone 3 Zoom though it's this camera Focus phone but there's no shutter like there's no physical shutter button there's no like it doesn't really seem catered to a photographer other than the fact that it's got optical zoom but neither but neither does the pixel or the iPhone 7 plus they're not like photofocus though yeah yeah yeah no but the the Zen phone line uses the volume button for it's not the same it's not the same it still feels okay I I don't mind doing it so then then there's AR and VR I think AR and VR big part of the show the AR was super cool the AR is cool I played I reviewed for chip chick the the Lenovo one the Tango one I thing is like a massive monster too much but when Tango works it's like magic right it's amazing when Tango works when that's the key word can you can you have a room in your house that has nothing in it I don't think this phone is going to be better until Tango gets better but it's a faster processor it's a much more normal form factor which is exciting the batteries yeah about 33 milliamp hour with Tango and 8 gigs of RAM ouch they have 35 Plus apps I know so you can use all of those apps I don't know it's going to be tough but I'm excited about VR like the OG stuff that's uh with a Snapdragon ag35 I mean they're industrial glasses but like this is an inflection point we're getting to the point point where we're going to be able to do snap glasses that are AR glasses in about 2 years now at the way things are going do you have a pair no not yet we have two yeah we have a couple buy a pair that's a personal question come on obviously you use it you love it yeah I do like it a lot you love the pair it's a great product by the worst company and cuz personally I'm not I'm not I'm not a big fan of the Snapchat like way of things oh there's some love happening back there much I was never a big snapchatter until I got these but that's the whole point of it that is the point yeah so I got sucked into the whole thing Steven's here how's it going what's up brother's up hey hey it's like this is the biggest party we've ever had on the podcast all right we have like every site here yeah it's just a giant block party of just Tech bloggers Bel I know give give a quick intro let's tell other people oh hey uh Stephen Shang from Phone Arena I showed up late I was like 10 minutes I thought you know make an appearance yeah yeah definitely yeah I know they're going to be closing up so we're going to we're going to go overtime I beted cuz it's going to take a while for them to tear down anyway so it's whatever do you know that one time Chris Zigler and I podcasted at CTI and they were literally disassembling the building around us what that sounds good mobile podcast where it was like don't mind the sound of fork clifts around us you did you catch it on video though like people behind you didn't thing you could really hear and the best part was that the construction guys was super chill about they're like don't worry we'll work around you continue your thing it was the coolest thing ever as are tearing up the carpet just leave a circle around youest Jack Island like we started with walls like in a little cubicle and we ended like Solo in the show floor with just a piece of carpet plugged into the wall like the socket oh my go that is an awesome that's too bad that's not on video yeah yeah I will step just came okay man I do want to ask we're we're checking with our guests right now of all the stuff that you've seen so far I'm so sorry I feel like I feel like the circle's becoming a bell curve um but like did um what what of what you've seen so far what do you like the most of what okay I made some bad mistakes today and saw a whole lot of TVs and very few phones but Sony had this really cool uh called like the N it's like an augmented reality neck band what with cameras and it's bizarre but just bizarre enough it might work it's got its own little assistant in it called Nigel which is a great name for a digital assistant they show I don't know about that I must have completely show something similar the the caller you talk to it they showed that at EA okay I L it still working it finally might be getting ready to come out but it's not quite there yet I don't know I need to see that my we go to Sony Booth definitely see I liked it yeah you liked it too I like yeah I liked it a lot Prett interesting the one I saw e i lik so was that your pick no what's your pick my pick is because this is the Android authority podcast I really liked this Windows laptop it's two in one I I I even I even Drew Hearts I even Drew Hearts around my head the yoga the yoga 910 no the yoga 910 oh that thing is sexy I drew Hearts around it I was like I love it for a I had rotic our could have been that it was 8:30 a.m. and I haven't gotten much sleep but I felt things for that laptop wow yeah yeah so so this is this is the one right that's my or this is what you choose to bring this is what I choose to bring to the endroid 30 podcast because I think you guys need some variety in your life well we have look how many people are here there's so many people here all right guys all right well I do want to check with our guys here are they trying to join the podcast or what so I want to check with our guys here what what what have you guys been really jazzed about because we we have split up so much so everyone is seeing different things that and we have this great opportunity where a shot here we're we're covering a lot of different things at the show this year so okay yeah I mean we were at Toyota this morning we checked out their New Concept car it's all electric and that was dope it it was really kind of cool can I see that here oh my God I have a mobile in my in my face huh can I see those words here that's fine not too much though not too much though one of the best things actually never mind the Toyota car which is cool in its own but we went to a little Bluetooth event and and it was supposed to be kind of useless just Bluetooth but did is it took accessories that we already know and it made them kind of great instead of it just being a Bluetooth tile that tracks your watch it or your watch your keys it also is a button that you can control if this and that you know just integrating some of the common simple Tech into neat items all right all right well David uh what have what what have you seen have I seen yeah where have you been yeah where I don't know other than at the house I haven't seen you tell us about Qualcomm qualcom I understand you went tocom Jonathan and I both went to qualcom and didn't get let in because we're not cool enough cuz the line went in like a half an hour early or early they close the doors make sure you're in this with us we saw let's see I went to LG twice uh and they showed off a smart refrigerator was it working the Alexa fridge you Alexa fridge it was working it was working when when I when I couldn't talk to it so I was like that that that might have been my pick okay but I couldn't talk to it so I was like Boo it was it was pretty cool how was it smart it was smart in that it had cameras on the inside of the refrigerator so you could see what you had inside the refrigerator okay uh so you still have to do the work with your mind oh yeah basically yeah you have to see it think about it one thing that was kind of cool from that though is that you could they had an app where you could see what was in your refrigerator like wherever you are so you're at the grocery store and you're like oh crap I have no idea if I have milk or not or if it's expired and so then you can see in your fridge and be like there is didn't Samsung do that last year this happens to me all the time I'm like you know did I get did I get that milk or did I not get that milk and I'm at the store right now you have two milks you have two milks I bought too much milk what are you going to do much milk invariably one is bad and because you can't with a you can't read the label the camera is not good enough to read that's true but but if you insert if you scan the barcode on it it let you uh it would like put the expiration date on it which kind of cool what happens when I don't want to scan all my food though I don't want to scan all my food as I put that's kind of lame you're not you're not a freaking like if you look at companies like fridge cam they will send you push notifications when you're near the store but I don't which is which is more useful than a fridge to be like can I look inside my fridge you got to spend like an hour my favorite thing about the LG press conference was when they played that video of the view from inside the fridge when the woman comes up to it and starts interacting with it but it's seen from inside the fridge it's like I am Hall 9,000 your fridge there was only I will kill you in your sleep one thing that was kind of interesting is they had a like giant like tall robot thing that was like n high and it would just like drive around and apparently they're putting it at airports it has like a giant like LG V10 on the back which is not actually a V10 but just a big touchcreen the V10 is already giant it was like that's true had a more have like a curved ol a curved display an LG Flex yeah basically a flex too and they like I I guess they're putting it in an airport next year it look like a doll SC it was kind of creepy it was a little bit creepy so tall he mentioned LG so I want to put this on the floor now truly wireless earbuds oh just how much of that are we going to see at CES because finally cuz you know Samsung did it but it was like 60 minutes a battery life come on like my workouts last twice as long as that excuse me clearly I have nothing to show for it Sony had some but you can't touch them or get any specs on them and they're sealed in a giant block of acrylic so so now we have LG who have have established themselves with a tone line now coming out with two things but one of them is truly Wireless so I wonder know what you guys thought about that like did you get to see them at all yeah we we got we got a little bit of handson and you went right after us didn't you like what's up didn't you guys go right after us we were at the I don't know it's it's cool but like I I think one of the one of the problems was the um cuz they're called the T freeze and they're cool but the they're kind of ugly and they're kind of big yeah they're they're big and I feel like after a while it's going to weigh down on you and I would take that over the airpods any day though you lot people with those conference W yeah better no but but the the thing is like they're so they're they're big and bulky and they kind of have to be so they can fit into the the the neck band yeah but then they have like three 3 or 4 hours of battery life probably I have to say though the neck I hate it the last theone I hate carrying that thing around that's what the tone is I'd rather have the airpods really thing right here around my neck all the time man okay go to Target get some oral be freaking toothbrush heads put them in your you see did you see that tweet where somebody is protecting their airpods from theft by putting the orbe sticker on there will not fall out of Edgar's ears because he could just put him through his Loop put through my my expansion yeah yeah it be perfect what did what did you think about what did you two think about the the freeze I haven't seen them you haven't seen them yet okay but are you into truly wireless earbuds uh yeah I like the idea of but the battery life is the killer for me that's what I'm saying yeah yeah I didn't think the audio quality was that good they didn't let us parot they didn't let us parot anything yeah so so maybe I just did cuz because I got I got to try them on the on the on the floor okay and then she's like it's loud here and I'm like well it's going to be loud a lot of places yeah headphon should be able to compensate for the loudness but so like may maybe that's why maybe like that part's not done okay but fair enough all right well do you guys really depend on the brand names for these kind of products no I just like just I mean there's small players Kickstarter there's a lot of little players that are doing decent things yeah exactly so which one I got mad because I love T so now that there's a tone version of it I'm like damn it I I go go one and like so I only have one thing to say about this Wireless stuff kids these days punks get off my lawn you'll take my water headphones out of my dead head get your pong out of my kidding just kidding I'm excited for it but like how about the tone Studios then man those things I can't imagine a use case where I would actually want to have those like with the vibration no doubt why don't you just have speakers yeah yeah the only good thing about those was the vibration when they were showing off the gaming that's cool yeah but like for for less than half the price of the the tone Studios you can buy like a really nice uh uh speaker bar for your TV oh yeah totally no I agree it's just like that was the only thing that I could see out of it you could get a UI boom and you tie some nylon around it and then you can put it over your neck like this you underrated speaker the LG clip the because it not only is it I mean it's just this little tiny clip speaker but it has a headphone out so you can use it as a Bluetooth receiver connect your stere that's pretty cool I like that got decent sound as is but yeah okay that's pretty dope all right I think I'm going to head out okay hug around we love you hugs they sound pretty good and the battery life is like 10 hours yeah forever forever I have the x2s who if you lighter are they lighter no I mean those are I mean I don't know I've never used the seriously I had the airpods and I lost one of them and after that it's just like I'm going to keep losing them you know like I don't it's okay though it's okay you you can get another one for just $70 oh of course yeah easy I'm money it's all good I've been playing around with the jaabra Elite Sports and my problem there is they have like three different ear sets uh six different inserts that fit on your ear and I can't find the fit that's right for me it's too many options that's all JS were but like I kind of appreciate it once you get once once you figure out the right size and everything like it's a big pain in the ass at first but then it's like okay well this actually fits my ears like almost perfectly so it's kind ofce the options get if you can find the right one yeah yeah yeah yeah I speaking into the mic when I should not be speaking to the mic so Jabra isn't that the brand for truckers I'm famous for the hugs yeah I'm okay with that yeah it's a it's a brand that that's really popular with long haul truckers well you know they need something with endurance so okay I'll Trust like quality good durability for like cold weather and hot weather sweat red blooded America American earbuds about 15 years ago I tried a set of just normal headphones or well earbuds and there were like I think the LG marshmallow or something and there was just memory foam and it fit any size it was like an earplug you just squish it up shove it in there it was just perfect fit every time sounds hygienic it was interesting I still got them I'm not wearing they were not good but the memory foam was was kind of a neat approach it was just really simple to fit any which ones the ones I reviewed for you for for G what they called I don't remember they had an they had an actual mold that you would like make it put warm water you put into your like mold into your ear the Deb something de I think C last year I have a pair of those at home they're great they're the most comfortable ones I have not the best sound quality but they're the scariest looking yeah yeah cuz you can see like the shap of your ear it's like H that's kind of nasty man nobody's ear really I happened to have like a hair in there when I was molding them so you can see one piece of hair like oh my God and this is how you guarantee no one borrows them you have to worry about how good photography is so when he's taking pictures of the mouse like this is a really good review I I I couldn't hire an ear model you know I don't think those exist they they for earrings and stuff you that's a good point that's a good point um headphones try to think of what else that we've seen that we could talk about uh did you guys like anything anything of note that you guys want to like sort of put out there for our our listeners and viewers have an unproductive I I chose all the worst events to attend I didn't get to see the new Tango phone from uh from Asus it's y I got some catching up to do I heard it was good I heard it was good yeah I mean they said it was pretty dope I'm not going to lie um I'll tell you what though um I will pose another question to you guys because I just saw hopefully who will be anyways yeah drones last year was amazing for drones yeah is this year going to be better I was thinking this year was going to be good that's that's disappointed what what I was thinking was I was thinking this year was going to be drones VR and electric cars yeah no no no guys electric motorcycles I'm all about it I'm all about it this year I'm going to go to all the booths and cover all all the electric motorcycles so keep it tuned to charge that IO he if if you find some electric motorcycles let me know there's a few that sounds fun one they're based off the San Diego the the LA area yeah they go up to like 90 80 mes hour really for a couple actual motorcycles these are serious motorcycle that's awesome yeah the only problem is recharging but you know I mean if you don't take it out of the city like that's fine yeah see I it's it's for selfish reasons but like I'm really really wanting to find more electric vehicles while we're here just because I rented a gimbal for for the show for the show floor and so far there's been no reason to take it out it's giant it's heavy it's it's annoying you find reasons for something like that exactly a gimbal like a like a stabilizer yeah it's kind of like this thing wearable you want to how about this I'll set up a demo for a motorcycle and then you go backpack you go behind me see the the problem is I have a license you don't the problem is my my my gimbal is a two-handed operation kind of thing so you can you can balance it's fine I'll write a boosted I'll go slow just make sure we get a video of this happening that was here released their gaming there's gaming stuff no there's St Samsung released their gaming laptop there hyperx what did you think about the hyperx uh keyboard and mouse and they're not good enough for you no it's okay they didn't get you hyped up no like if I want like a gaming I'll PC I'll build it like I don't I don't want a laptop you know I like GeForce go cuz cuz we just came back from Nvidia I missed that was it hot it was pretty good I'm not going to lie but GeForce go did you see what that was all about okay so imagine this you have a really crappy laptop and you get an app and nvidia's servers and all the graphics cards that are using to stream it to you even on a shitty laptop okay it's so good that there's no lat you can stream Netflix you can stream this yeah have highend games so you don't even need the exactly screen this is the catch though um it is $25 for 20 hours of gameplay and I'm calling it right now I'm calling right now that's at 720p I'm telling you right now it's $25 for 10 hours at 1080p I bet you that's what's going to be the cash what is this AOL by the hour god well what model do you expect was better that's the thing it was worth wait what what do you think about that um no like what no no I'm not going to spend my money on that if I'm going to invest in anything I'm going to invest in a gaming I mean 20 hours of gaming that's like half a final fantasy exactly that's nothing that's nothing you $50 for Fantasy yeah that's prob like a third of Final Fantasy yeah you play it probably like 50 60 I am a completionist so like so I do I do want to like find how you even here right now if you're aist well I see not my area of expertise what about youone what have you seen that you've liked okay any Rob are they are they cute ones like know I ride motorcycles okay so like I I want something that I can carry with me on the side of the motorcycle so when I get off my motorcycle secondary motorcycle I want to get the secondary vehicle use Google assistant on the pixel all the damn time and I want to see assistant in more places the new Nvidia Shield has Google assistant in which I didn't see at the the mate 9 or the Huawei event now the mate 9 is getting Alexa buil inting for the US getting it and everywhere we turn everywhere we turn Amazon's in it Alexa's right here at TP link they're right here at wio they're at everywhere the accessories cuz they they announced all these interesting accessories where you can like put them on things so that people like you don't trip over them so you can attach them to your cat if you want to oh Alo accessories for the vibe for the vibe yeah for the current Vibe they have already the the wireless adapter that goes on the vibe that adds a battery pack to it which actually apparently has very low latency and I think we need to try out I don't know why I don't have one yet but we need to get one um and then they have yeah they have something so you can like see this beam of light so you don't like hit it uh whether it be your coffee near death experience add-on basically yeah so you don't DP over stuff cuz not everyone has like just an empty room in their house where they can just use the Vive yeah um so I want to go try that tomorrow I think it would be cool to like just see it every time I use Vive it's kind of like boom no it doesn't have to be for cats only I have the staircase I have the staircase in my house where it's part of a room and you could just put it at the edge of the staircase that's pretty cool yeah that'd be good other than that I want to see some other like VR accessories VR stuff I know that valva is working on some other controller prototypes so I think they're going to show some of those off okay uh a lot of VR stuff is what I'm mostly excited about sounds good I think Samsung had the best VR accessories for the the gear it's like a a seat with a you know full-on gimbal around it rotating you 360° like you're on a roller coaster
