The Upstairs Construction Project: A Day of Progress

We have made significant progress today on our upstairs construction project. The first step was to drywall all of the walls and ceiling, which will help to create a smooth surface for the next stages of the renovation. Our plan is to mount a 2x4 stud over the area where we will be installing a large window, creating a frame that will support the weight of the drywall.

The windows were chosen from a selection at Home Depot and were found to be pre-made units that will work perfectly for our space. We have decided to make new frames for them rather than trying to find existing ones that would fit. The frames will be made to match the surrounding walls, creating a seamless look. We are also planning to add two smaller windows on either side of the large window, which will provide natural light and ventilation.

One of the challenges we faced today was removing the old vent from the hot water heater. It had been installed in a awkward location and would need to be relocated. We used a 90-degree elbow fitting to connect it to an oval pipe that we purchased at Home Depot. The pipe will run through the ceiling and into the attic, where it will continue on its way to the old vent. This will effectively hide the vent from view, creating a clean look.

In addition to removing the vent, we also discovered that there was a natural gas line running across the room. We are planning to relocate this line to run along the wall, rather than leaving it in its current location. This will make for a much neater finish and eliminate any potential hazards.

Our team has been working hard to get everything ready for tomorrow's workday. Jordan, our plumber, is due back at 8:00 AM to move the gas line and install new D-rings in the ground, which will allow us to strap the cars together. We are also planning to set up a breakout board to run cables through the ceiling and make sure that everything is securely connected.

Despite the progress we have made today, there is still much work to be done before our renovation project is complete. Tomorrow's schedule includes hanging drywall on the upstairs walls, installing new windows, and continuing work on the plumbing. We are hoping to make significant headway tomorrow and be back in the RV for dinner by 6:00 PM.
