The Audi Q2: A Small SUV with a Big Personality
The Audi Q2 is a small SUV that prioritizes style over outright practicality, making it an interesting choice for those who want a fashionable vehicle without sacrificing too much functionality. The boot of the Q2 holds 405L when the seats are up and 1.50L when they're down, which may not be as spacious as some of its rivals, such as the Mini Countryman's boot. However, it is slightly larger than an Audi A3's trunk space.
The interior of the Q2 features a fairly square space that is somewhat compromised by the rear bumper sticking out quite far, making it more difficult to load heavy items compared to the Mini Countryman. One notable feature missing from the Q2 is a 12-volt socket in the back, but it does come with two bag hooks and four tethers for holding smaller items. Additionally, there's decent underfloor storage space available unless you opt for the optional space-saver spare wheel.
The rear seats of the Q2 fold almost completely flat, making it an ideal spot to stow a stroller or two soft bags. Golf clubs also fit comfortably in the back, and there's ample room for all the essentials needed for a family holiday. To put this into perspective, follow down the Q2's rear seats and you can easily carry a bike, a TV box, two medium boxes, two small boxes, one large suitcase, and a couple of soft bags. The Q2 does an excellent job in holding smaller items as well.
In terms of interior space, the front door bins are big enough to hold a 1.5L bottle with room for another one in the glove box. There's also a pair of cup holders ahead of the gear lever and some extra space under the front center armrest. However, the door pockets in the back are slightly smaller but still capable of holding a small bottle.
In terms of passenger comfort, two adults will fit comfortably in the back of the Q2, but when three people are together, it can get quite tight on the shoulders due to a large hump in the middle of the floor that eats into foot space. Despite this, the Q2 manages to be pretty family-friendly when it comes to fitting a child seat. The doors aren't as big as some rivals, but their tall shape and raised seating position make it easy to maneuver the seat base through the gap once the removable clips are out of the way.
The Q2 scored the maximum five-star rating for Euro NCAP in 2016, with a 93% score for adult occupant protection and an 86% score for child protection overall. This is a testament to the Audi Q2's safety features and its ability to provide a comfortable ride for both adults and children.
For those who prioritize a posh badge above all else, the Audi Q2 is certainly an option that fits the bill. With its stylish design and spacious interior, it's easy to see why many would find themselves drawn to this vehicle every day. However, if practicality is your top priority, there are more spacious alternatives available at a similar price point.
