**Hyundai's Exciting Plans: From Performance Vehicles to Robots**

Hyundai has been making waves in the automotive industry lately, with a string of impressive announcements. The company has been busy developing new performance vehicles, such as the Kona N performance crossover and the Veloster N, which is a personal favorite among many car enthusiasts.

But Hyundai's plans extend far beyond just high-performance cars and alternative fuels. In fact, they have bigger ambitions that go way beyond the automotive world. To understand why, let's take a look at some of their recent acquisitions.

**Hyundai Buys Boston Dynamics: The Robotics Game-Changer**

Last year, Hyundai made a bold move by purchasing Boston Dynamics, the world-renowned robotics company behind some of the most advanced robots in existence. This acquisition sent shockwaves throughout the tech and automotive industries, leaving many people wondering what Hyundai's true intentions were.

While it's still early days for this partnership, one thing is certain: Hyundai is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology. Whether they plan to create a new line of robotic cars or something entirely different remains to be seen, but one thing is clear – they're in this for the long haul.

Now, granted I'm very into Robotics,I watched every episode ofRobotica on TLC when I was a kidand I was in the roboticsclub in junior high. But BD's creations area little more impressivethan my Lego Mindstorms kit. They've got cheetahs and wildcats and multiple humanoids. They can jump, they canflip, they can balancewhen they get pushed over, and they can pretty much move in every waythat a human can and more. It's seriously awesome. But Boston Dynamicsdoesn't really make money. It functions more likea research organizationand Institute. It was part of the MassachusettsInstitute of Technologyafter all.Their entire purpose was creatingand developing cutting edgerobots that are so advancedthat a lot of people thoughtthey were fake at first. And since their focus is robot legs, they became a drivingforce of robotic mobility. But paying the bills, freaky dog legs do not, which is why it's so great that Hyundaicame into the picture.(gun cocks)So what the hell does a SouthKorean car manufacturer wantwith a company that inspiredthe creepiest episodeof black mirror?Well, let's take a look at the specificsof the deal.Finalized on December 10th of last year,Hyundai bought 80% of Boston Dynamicsfrom the Japanese firm SoftBankfor the price of $921 million. This was no drop in the bucket, okay? There's serious money at play here. Before Hyundai bought it,SoftBank had bought BostonDynamics from Googleand it just makes up a fractionof SoftBank's portfolioand then came along Hyundai snapped it upand that's got a lot of people wondering,"What's the plan here?"Well, there are many possibilities. As a total BD fan Boy,I can name severalpossibilities for Hyundaito utilize the Boston Dynamic technow that they own the rights to it.First of all, they don't only makefaceless gravity-defyingnightmare bots.Okay. Take a look at thiswarehouse working robotnamed Handle. This flamingo-lookingthing moves boxes with easeand precision.Hyundai could easily usethis logistical prowesson the production lines, which in the age of EVs,we'll require more robot-like accuracylike this one's capable of.Speaking of future cars,Boston Dynamics equipmentrevolve around mobility is jam-packedwith cutting edge sensor technology.Hyundai could feasibly use these sensorsand the technology behind themfor self-driving conceptslike the line up, Motionals, that's what they're called, that the company is developing.Boston Dynamics robot knowledgewould also be super usefulto Hyundai is wearablerobotics initiative. That's right.Hyundai has a developmentdivision dedicatedto making robots that you can wearto help paralysis victimswalk around again.Every day we get closer to max suitsand I'm here for it baby.I will be the Master Chief,I will go to space and Iwill fight the Covenant.Where's my BR?(electric gun charging)But all these possibilitiesare just that. Possibilities. The truth is that Hyundai istrying to whole bunch of stuffand seeing what sticks. They're diversifying theirportfolio if you will.Their performance-minded N division, shows that we're branchingout from commutersand family Sedans to make Sporty carsthat car nerds reallywant to drive, like me.Going beyond that, they'rereportedly working with Appleto build a self-driving EV by 2024and Hyundai even has a flying taxi conceptthat they unveiled last January. They got a lot of stuff going on.Hyundai is thinking far into the future. So it's no surprisethat they're acting nowto acquire super exciting technology. In fact, they stated themselvesthat by 2025, they willhave invested approximately$1.4 billion in robotics alone. They even have a development branchcalled the New Horizon Studio. And if you follow their moves closely,it's actually reallyobvious they plan to dowith their new robot companybecause Hyundai themselvesstated that they're making, quote, "The world's firsttransformer-class Vehicle. The thing about transformers though,is that they do more than just drive. As we've already learned,Boston Dynamics is greatat making things walk.(electro music)In 2019, Hyundai unveileda concept vehiclecalled the Elevate.Hyundai touts the Elevateas the quote Ultimate Mobility Vehicle. It's a car that has legs.Okay, the legs are goingto shoot out from under it.So it can switch from driving to walking. And quite honestly, guysI've never seen anything like this before. It looks like something outof Surrealist SteamPunk movie.it's like Dolly meets, Wild Wild West.It makes me feel weird. At first glance, itseems counterintuitive. The whole reason cars were inventedwas to avoid walking, right?Well, upon closer investigation, these legs are actually pretty bad-ass.They would have six points of articulationfor a super comprehensive range of motion. You've got a verticalhip, a horizontal hip,a knee joint and ankle. The wheelbase itself spins 360 degreesand then you have the wheel itself. It would have to drive having modes, with passive and active suspension.Plus two walking modes. You've got mammalianmode where it would walkwith its legs beneath, like a tiger or your dog.And then a reptilianmode where the legs jutout horizontally and scamper around. And these walking modes canbe active simultaneouslyresulting in omnidirectional movement. This is insane.Meaning in theory, itcould go from drivingdown a highway to scalinga five-foot inclineto bridging a five foot gapat the push of a button. It's so rad guys. This challenges the very ideaof what a vehicle even is.This is a stuff of pioneers and geniusesif you asked me.I seriously love this idea.Like Hyundai says, this would be theUltimate Mobility Vehicleits ability to transformand make it perfectfor first responders andsearch and rescue teams. In it's press release, thevice-president of Hyundai,John Suh stated quote, "Whena tsunami or earthquake hits,"current rescue vehicles can only deliver"first responders to theedge of the debris field."Elevate can drive to the scenethen climb right over flooddebris or crumbled concrete. That's awesome.Like I said, whole newdimension to mobility.Imagine if a remote wild land fire stationhad one of these things outin the middle of nowhere. The Elevate could totallychange the entire landscapeof rescue vehicles forever.Hardly any terrain would be untraversable. It could save lives like an auto bot.And unlike the vast majorityof concept vehicles, this was actually in development. The world's first walking carand real life transformermight be saunteringdown our roads before we expect it.Let's just hope it doesn'twant to enslave Cybertron. When I first heard thatHyundai was going to make a carwith legs, I have to admit,I thought it sounded pretty stupid. What can I say?I like my wheels on my wheels.Okay,.But in the end, this decisionto make this fever dream areality is actually really cooland innovative and I was totally wrong. And if they're going to treadinto the uncharted territoryof robotic car legs, thenthere's no better companythan Boston Dynamics tohelp them learn how to walk. It's a smart move.Nowadays, every single carmaker in the world is inthe innovation arms race, more like a legs racebut the industry encompassesmore than just passenger cars. There are other typesof vehicles out thereand Hyundai is smart to growand expand into these sectors.Automation and mobilityare just as importantan the area of developmentas alternative fields. It's a noble endeavor andit challenges the ideathat all robots are eviland coming to get us.Robots are not the bad guys. They can actually help us out.And I swear there's noevil robot right off-cameraforcing me to say these things.(machines beeping)Now that they've got Spot inthe Big Dog on their team,I'm excited to seewhat other transformersHyundai comes out with next.Hopefully not Starscream.Oh, dark mode Job but what's going on man.Long time, no see.Oh, oh.(soft music)Oh,
