Emmy Eats Hawaii - tasting Hawaiian snacks & sweets

**Exploring Hawaiian Treats and Drinks**

I recently had the opportunity to try some delicious Hawaiian treats and drinks, thanks to my son's gift. He packed a variety of snacks from his travels to Hawaii, and I was excited to sample them.

One of the first things I tried was a ball of shredded coconut, similar to what you'd find in an Almond Joy or Mounds bar. It had a sweet flavor, but it was really just a ball of coconut held together with something sticky - possibly corn syrup or other ingredients. The texture was soft and chunky, with a strong fishy smell that I found quite enjoyable.

As I continued to explore the snacks, I came across dried squid, known as "ika" in Japanese. It had a beautiful shredded texture and a strong, briny flavor that reminded me of seafood jerky. The taste was intense, with notes of saltiness and sweetness, and it was a great road trip snack.

Next, I tried some Chinese-influenced candies called "Leahing", which were flavored with spices and used on preserved fruits or dried fruits. Unfortunately, the flavor was too strong for me - it was very salty and tart, making my eyes water. However, the dried plum itself was tart and had a distinct Leahing flavor.

I also encountered some Gummy Bears coated in red powder, which were much sweeter than the other candies I'd tried. They tasted like traditional gummy bears, but with a Hawaiian twist.

A drink that caught my eye was black tea with milk and sugar, similar to Lipton's iced tea. However, this one was made with whole milk and had a unique, creamy texture. It wasn't my favorite, but it was definitely an interesting take on traditional iced tea.

One of the most exciting drinks I tried was a Kona coffee caramel macadamia nut milk chocolate bar. The caramel was infused with a strong coffee flavor, making it a unique twist on traditional caramel and nuts. The texture was soft and chewy, with a mix of crunchy pecans and smooth chocolate.

Finally, I came across a milk chocolate covered caramel treat called Cara Mac, which had a shell of milk chocolate and a generous helping of gooey caramel inside. It was like a Hawaiian spin on the classic turtle candy, and it was delicious - although I think I prefer the coffee-flavored macadamia nut bar.

Overall, I was impressed by the variety of snacks and drinks that my son brought back from his travels to Hawaii. Each one had its own unique flavor and texture, and they all showcased the island's rich cultural heritage.
