The Mercedes-AMG GT R is a SAVAGE BEAST!!!

The Mercedes-AMG GT R: A Delicate Balance of Weight, Power, and Aerodynamics

As we step onto the exhibition floor to get our first glimpse of the Mercedes-AMG GT R, it's clear that this car is a masterpiece of engineering. The active aerodynamic profiles around the front are on full display, showcasing the clever use of vents to manage airflow and downforce. Take a closer look at the front crash structure, made from lightweight magnesium, and you'll notice the carbon fiber panels that add strength without sacrificing too much weight.

The rear wing is another notable feature, with an adjustable mechanism that allows for maximum downforce or a more aerodynamic profile for top speed. We see this in action as the car's engineers demonstrate its capabilities on the track. The GT R's engine, a twin-turbocharged four-liter V8, produces 585 horsepower and 700 newton-meters of torque – an incredible amount of power that's carefully balanced with weight reduction to create a truly exceptional driving experience.

One of the most striking aspects of the GT R is its use of lightweight materials throughout. We see this in the carbon fiber prop shaft, which replaces the traditional steel system and saves a whopping 14 kilos. The drive shaft itself is also made from carbon fiber, weighing in at just 4 kilos – a remarkable reduction that adds up to make the car a full 15 kilos lighter than its predecessor. And with components like the carbon tunnel cross underneath the car, which provides added rigidity without adding too much weight, it's clear that the engineers have been working tirelessly to optimize every aspect of the vehicle.

Of course, no Mercedes-AMG car would be complete without some of the most advanced technology available. The GT R features a range of innovative systems, including electronic power steering and a carbon ceramic brake system. We see the latter in action as we explore the car's powertrain setup – a complex system that combines the latest advancements in braking technology with the familiar thrum of a V8 engine.

As we take a closer look at the GT R, it becomes clear that this is a car that's all about balance and harmony. The rear wheel steer mechanism is just one example of how the engineers have worked to create a system that's both sophisticated and intuitive. And with its advanced materials and clever design, this is a car that truly delivers on its promise of exceptional performance and handling.

One of the most exciting aspects of driving the GT R is its ability to deliver incredible acceleration off the line – with 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, this is one of the fastest production cars available. But as we spend more time behind the wheel, it becomes clear that there's so much more to this car than just raw speed. The GT R is a true driving machine, with a level of sophistication and refinement that's simply unmatched.

As we prepare to leave the exhibition floor for the final time, I have to admit that I'm disappointed. It's been an absolute pleasure spending time with the Mercedes-AMG GT R – and yet, there's still so much to unpack. From its incredible acceleration to its clever use of aerodynamics, this is a car that truly deserves our attention.

For those who are interested in purchasing a GT R for themselves, I have some good news: it's available in a range of trim levels, each with its own unique features and options. And while there's no official word on pricing just yet, we do know that this is a car that will be worth every penny – if not more.

So as I wrap up my time with the Mercedes-AMG GT R, I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed. This is truly an epic car – one that has left me in awe of its sheer performance and sophistication. And while there's still much to learn about this incredible machine, I can already tell you that it's going to be a wild ride.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys i'm shmee and hello to you from porter mao in portugal where i am joining mercedes for the press launch of the amg gtr now i'm going to have an opportunity to drive the new car out on the road and then on the race circuit as well and of course this is a particularly important car to me because i have one on order myself that i'm going to be taking you along the journey with when it arrives at some point hopefully during 2017. so this is the car well a couple of the cars that we're going to be filming with today the four liter twin turbo 585 horsepower beast of the green hell now i'm going to take this car out for a short little drive on the road before we come back for some track laps and then go for an extended drive slightly later on but of course being a car that's quite close to my own heart i feel like i know quite a lot about it but there is also an awful lot more i would like to learn and share with you so please excuse me if this is quite a lengthy video piece but there is a lot to this car and i want to experience it all and share that with you because i think it's pretty spectacularly awesome so let's jump in go for a little drive on some local roads around here before coming back afterwards for the track i'm heading out of the circuit then and i've clearly got a very big smile on my face because this is quite exciting and i've driven it for a couple of hundred meters literally just meters and it's already feeling seriously seriously dramatic it's much more of a sense of occasion than i necessarily expected this was going to be just sitting here at the wheel you've got the massive long bonnet out in front of you that's obviously known and familiar from the gt and the gts now i haven't actually driven the gts properly before i've just done really really gentle crews so this is going to be my most exciting drive in this platform of car you've got a lot of noise going on behind you you can hear those bubbles and i'm obviously in comfort mode taking the speed super gently and easily obviously we've got very slippy roads but i want to do this first little drive just to become a little bit familiar with the car understand what's going on before we're then out on a greasy race circuit so i mean sitting here right now i feel comfortable i feel at home i feel like i can do some long gt road trips in this but you do get a big sense that this car is derived from a race car we're exiting the track out under the gtr uh barriers we've got sort of some lane assistant there just as i moved over to the left lane i could tell well it vibrated the steering wheel to let me know i was doing it so we got lots of tech at play just gently down the gears very smooth and gentle and considered when you're in comfort mode it doesn't feel i guess like an angry brute or a beast of the green hell but you can tell it's there it's there and ready to get you if it wants to let's give it a little bit of a squirt here i've gone back into automatic of course okay driving like that that's kind of gentle um i'm obviously not expecting to do too much driving in the most gentlest of modes and we're going to come back and drive another car later on on the road a little bit more aggressively this is more just to sort of get an initial feel what it's like driving in what will be my future road car my future grand tourer the amg gtr it sounds good even in comfort and the steering is incredibly impressive you can tell the rear wheel steer is doing its thing as you go around corners or just had a couple of gentle ones so far you can feel that it's like on rails it's on tracks just going around with that technology at play i think we'll come back a little bit more to that later on as well ride is firm you can probably tell i'm bumping a little bit not hugely so i mean i've driven this road before on the e63 s um and that was obviously a car much more positioned towards comfort and luxury but it's not it's not sort of crazy bumps and bangs and this is sort of putting it to the test that's for sure and then you've got that you've got that noise behind you okay let's just have a little play with it in sport mode which is uh presumably going to put the exhaust into uh i don't know the exhaust is still in comfort we don't really want that we want to put the exhaust in loud which is done using this button here in the center console oh wow that is that's cool that's a lot of sound a lot of raw it does genuinely feel like a beast right now next on the agenda is definitely sport plus okay let's drop some gears is this where we start getting over on crackles yeah there we go okay this is where you lift off the sound of thunder so sport plus changes some configuration obviously it makes it further thanks oh my goodness that noise okay this is just gentle driving so you get a lot more exhaust sound in sport plus even in sports do you listen to that sorry i'm just giggling like a little child right now this sound is monumental it's the most beastly v8 raw this has to be the best sounding turbocharged engine that exists i just can't see anything touching the noise that this is capable of it yeah leaves me short of words but i'm gonna head back to the circuit and get prepared for some track time now that i've got the excitement of my first drive in the gtr out of the way but before we go out onto the track for some serious laps i've brought the car into the pit box here to show you around it go for a walk around it and talk in a little bit more detail about some of the changes that have gone into making this i mean we've got active aerodynamics we've got new use of materials and we've got a very different cosmetic look and that is where we're going to get started because this is the beast of the green hell and it is named that even the paint is named green hell magno because it has been developed at the nurburgring to quite a heavy extent in fact sport auto magazine have taken a stock mercedes amg gtr and done a time under 7 minutes and 11 seconds making it the fastest they have ever recorded even quicker than the 918 spyder and the fastest time ever by a rear driven car of course this is rear wheel drive only so that is pretty impressive as an achievement it also takes a lot of sort of learnings and lessons from the amg gt3 car especially on the cosmetic side and we'll start with that with the panamericana front grille with the 15 vertical chromed slats this is sort of copied off the gt3 card it allows a little bit more cooling through the grille of course but most importantly it has a more aggressive stance where the gts would only come up to about here with the front grille just that extended kind of look extra visual width to the car and it also has this sort of tilt towards the front to give it even more stance through that aggression there as well underneath that you've got a wider lower area for larger intakes you can see all the cooling that comes through here you've got the air curtains here at the side which obviously target the air and control the airflow around the side now we'll get to the active aerodynamics you've got these flaps here which open in just over a second to control airflow coming through the car and you've also got a splitter here at the bottom that can lower 40 millimeters downwards dependent upon speed so in race mode at 80 kilometers an hour it comes down in any other mode it's 120 kilometers an hour to give more grip at speed and obviously there's quite a lot of speed possible from this thing so you have i mean the satin paintwork that just um screams out loud look at me you can contrast that with the amg performance wheels and the ceramic calipers as well in gold and they come standard in yellow on the car but that saves 17 kilos and gives it some fairly incredible stopping power as well there's more active aero underneath the car it's got new materials so various components are made or body panels are made out of magnesium the roof is made out of carbon fiber you've got the rear spoiler the rear wing will come straight to that because that's a pretty dominant part of the visuals from the rear which is mechanically adjustable again more lessons from motorsport just i haven't said yet but the amg gt3 was pretty dominant at this year's n24 race dominating the top end of the podium well the top end of the entire grid to be honest um so again this car nurburgring dna all the way through it down here the double diffuser on this side and on the other side all working in tandem with the airflow underneath the car and the active aero at play and then here you've got the titanium exhaust system which has these carbon fiber pieces so basically it doesn't melt the bumper which is kind of cool you've got sort of well it's a quad system isn't it two in the middle and one on either side for the exhaust pipes so visually it's a beast you've got the new gtr logo designation as well on the exterior this thing is phenomenal he says i can just hear a car that might be about to roll past this is the patient waiting game behold the amg gtr right let's have a quick look on the interior in here you've got the dynamico with yellow and the bucket seats nice sorry for the lights it's very bright outside but it's very windy so i'm trying to film inside got some carbon fiber trim but you've also got this the drift control or rather amg dynamic traction control which has nine different settings so if i turn on the car actually i'm gonna come around and sit in the driver's seat here to demonstrate this we've got the mercedes key jump in alcantara steering wheel just start it up beast draws into life we're in sport plus which means the exhaust valve system is open and we'll come back and look around more of the interior here um a little bit later on but use the traction control put it into small handling mode i guess you press and hold to turn it off there we go now this is engaged and you've got your different modes you can see traction on all the way to traction off and the lights will change as you do this that's a very cool little feature it's exact same nine different setting modes that the gt3 car has so obviously i haven't played with that up to this point but what i am going to do while we're in here firstly just put traction on just in case but we're in park sport plus exhaust open let's just hear this for a second is that sound not completely incredible the stock factory titanium exhaust system i i'm blown away by it right i'm gonna shut this off for the moment because there is one other piece of technology i would like to talk about and that involves the wheels this car has rear wheel steering so you and i that translates to more grip at low speeds and more stability at high speeds up to 100 kilometers an hour the wheels are turning in the opposite angle so if you're turning left at the front the rear wheels are turning to the right that means you basically can corner like you're on rails when you're then going faster than 100 kilometers an hour they will turn in the same direction so if you're turning right at the front the rears are turning right as well to give you extra stability and grip so it's a pretty clever pretty intelligent system and just looking at the side profile of the car here it looks like a total monster but i suspect i have talked a little bit too long for you right now so let's take the car out and go on the track it's pretty windy but the cars are prepped there are six of them in total and that one right there is the one i'm going to get an opportunity now to have a couple of laps in out here at the portemour circuit not the first time i've driven the circuit but as always i need to take a little bit of time just to familiarize and be safe at the wheel before i guess we'll get shown how to do it properly later on this is just going to be what it's like for me experiencing the amg gtr on a race circuit so then we're coming around at the end of the sighting land putting flats to the floor down the start straight 250 already 250 something firm on the brakes we've got the carbon ceramic so obviously they're going to have a lot of stopping power um we're driving quite briskly already and i'm obviously i'm trying to think about talking to camera as well so this is a bit of a challenge for me but i can feel that this thing is super super playful i've got in sport plus mode so it's not even technically in race mode at the moment where it would put the traction off a little bit as well but it's got a lot of sound a lot of grunt it's a very very very quick machine with sort of lead following so i'm following a pace car there are a couple of puddles on the track as well but the brakes are stunning there's so much stopping power the throttle pedal the brake pedal they're very very sensitive they're very much like i guess race feel i can start to feel it twitching okay this is a lot to think about very very quickly right now the level of grip is really taking me by surprise because we're on a slightly damp track as well we've got a really really powerful rear-wheel drive car says going around that last corner i hate that last corner and pour them out balance is so throwing well but yeah the brakes are very very solid hey jack and flying out okay so now we're taking a little i tell you what now that i'm driving a little bit slower you don't half have to concentrate in here it is a very very involving experience i mean i've done quite a few drag days this year in quite a few unfamiliar cars but this has shut me up i found it very very very hard to think while driving because my concentration was on putting the power down to the road because there is so much of it and you can tell quite how capable it is i feel like it's a spectacularly playful car but i was concentrating on driving it to the performance angle as well not a bad first drive i'm i'm left feeling like that that was a proper drive that's how it's supposed to be wow for a first drive then oh my gosh that was insane okay what a drive the intensity and involvement you experience at the wheel of this car is like something completely different i was so much thinking about the driving you could probably tell from my speaking it's just like the delicate poison balance it is completely race car with kind of a number plate stuck on it that you can drive on the road but what i have done straight after getting back is sorted out another little innings so hopefully i can get a little bit more of an understanding move up from sport plus and try out the race mode as well but my word let's go round two then off we go i have to say the automatic gearbox in sport plus mode presumably also in race is brilliantly positioned for this it's always in the gear i wanted to be in there is literally no point in going into manual normally you sort of put your car into manual when for the first time you think that the sort of automatic car uh gearbox hasn't selected what you want it to be in but here it's always how i want it it's brilliant i'm very very very very happy with how the gearbox works obviously it's mercedes seven speed double clutch box so for lap two let's move it up into race mode so esc goes slightly more sporty so i'm gonna be a little bit careful now breaking down the dip i'm not using anything like the brakes the car has available to it okay i can start to feel it being a little bit more playful there already this really is a complete brute it makes me feel like i have to be absolutely on the game to concentrate and make sure i'm getting the absolute most out of it which is why it's hard to talk while driving it because every input impacts the steering is exceptional the throttle pedal fail the brake feel all exceptional i haven't even yet tried the different sort of custom traction settings with the amg traction control but in sport handling mode which comes with the race setting this is a proper driver's experience i mean front engine rear wheel drive lots of power an amazing soundtrack and some proper proper proper brakes on it as well so come in past the other cars there i just feel like i can feel the balance so easily and i'm not the best driver out there by any stretch of the imagination i can't imagine how amazing this must be when you get used to it you know this is my first go in this car traction holding me back slightly there because i put it down a little bit early wow maybe i'll give it a really quick go we'll need a pro tour showing me how it works properly so now i've got less traction running we're in the middle setting and i'm going to leave it there but let's um just put a bit of power down and see what it's got okay goodness i can feel the balance so perfectly this is beautiful car watercolors drive oh my goodness i must have the biggest smile on my face ever this is an absolute dream absolutely i'm not understeering i'm getting a little bit of oversteer i'm having a massive massive amount of fun the brakes are insane there just give it a little dab it's so controllable how have they done this this is this is insane i've got it on the cusp of sliding i just feel like the car is all mine to play with wow amg i don't know how you've done this but the boys in a volta have made something absolutely phenomenal this grin is never ever gonna go away i i'm speechless i'm utterly speechless that has to be one of the absolute drives of my life what is this it's freaking amazing and i think one of the best things is you can so naturally jump in i'm sorry for the wind it sounds so good so yes it's really windy outside but i think when customers get delivery of their gtrs you can jump in it and feel i mean it tests you but it rewards you so so well you can feel that balance and as you play a little bit oh my goodness i am very very excited as you can probably tell off the track and that means it's time now for my second and kind of proper road drive and for that i'm gonna drive in this selenite gray magno car again a satin paint work but this one's slightly more set up for the road and you'll see what i mean by that if we come to the inside because it has the standard you could say or optional on this performance amg seat this is the cv you can have in other models rather than the hardcore bucket seat and generally slightly lower configuration but let's jump in get started and take this car out let's take this a little bit more gently then it is a grand tourer kind of in virtue of the fact that the name is the amg gt gt grand thora um it might be a beastly turned up one and the way we've been driving it on track well i've been driving it has certainly felt like a savage animal but it has these capabilities also for being quite calm and civilized if you want it to be if you can ever call even the quiet mode the little noise you get from the v8 civilized but relatively speaking let's start from that point the seats are an interesting discussion point though because i don't actually find these seats as comfortable as the bucket i obviously thought they would be significantly more so but it's bucket seats all the way for me i just find them more supportive and more around we can have a look at the in the exhibition room when i get back at the end of this and show you that in a little bit more detail but just cruising along in comfort mode obviously everything's the softest possible we've got a nice trick suspension system that's super variable got all sorts of other controls and things we can change and play with we've got lots of entertainment and just general i guess comfort features your lane guidance you know the usual bits of bobs your adaptive cruise control everything you sort of want and this car also has the really nice 11 speaker burmester uh stereo system um on top of the 10 speaker one that comes with the premium sort of package that you can buy in terms of optional spec so driving like this i feel like i could be out on a motorway taking it very easy gently civilized and relaxed and it would be that exact grand tour of car now you can set up the uh mode toggle to have individual in fact let's see what individuals set up for here individual here is set up for sporty driving but quiet exhaust so we don't want that let's go the other way sport and sport plus as we basically discussed um earlier are by far the best modes for the road and i think pretty much unanimously mine is going to be in this sport plus mode because you just sort of do that lift off you get a nice bubble of bang and maybe that's some unburnt fuel being wasted but it's hilariously fun you've got a button on the other side to put it into a manual and i do find this whole area a little bit clumsy there's too much going like on over such a big area to find all those buttons but that's always been one of the things with the amg gt and the gts so if i had to be critical of something it would be all of that um and the way it's set up but that's pretty negligible that was quite a big bump but the car rode over it even in the support plot in the sport plus mode um that's where you've got your control for writing in the info for the screen that's all familiar from other mercedes models but now we're in manual let's uh do this a little bit that i mean okay i'm just gonna lower the window down a bit just so i can hear more of that wow i'm a little bit speechless the sound is mega you've got ship lights at the top of the dashboard which cool as well okay okay that would ever get boring because i really don't i mean i said it earlier this is how they made a twin turbocharged engine sound this phenomenon is kind of beyond me so let's put it back into automatic where like i said on the track earlier um it's really really good just being in the gear you want sport plus i i've driven lots of cars in that style and quite often you find yourself fumbling for a gear you want to change it but in here every single time the car has done what i want ahead of the time i've done it so there's no need to why bother putting it in manual if the car can accurately predict exactly where you're going to want it to be um but this mode doesn't actually seem too firm riding and you've got the suspension control button with different modes here so i can put that straight into comfort or sport or sport plus independently so i can have all the noise in sport plus well i could individual set this up and then um the suspension in comfort which is probably the way to do it um have that for normal driving something i'm really enjoying that's quite hard i think to explain the words might not quite make sense it's just how badass this car is it makes you feel like a bit of a gangster it's it's just cool um i think the sls black series c63 black series sl 65 black series they've always done that and this new introduction of this sort of r brand does it in just the same fashion the way the wing looks the way the whole thing feels and the way just you know you can catch the wing in your door mirror it just makes you feel like this is a cool car and it's a cool car that i want to take on some proper road trips and adventures as well and now that i've driven it i feel like it's the kind of car that i can take and drive comfortably daily long distance whatever it is i want to do and then at the other end on the track it's going to be a ridiculous weapon in its own right and it kind of renders so many other things and cars perhaps a little bit irrelevant because it's so capable in one machine you've got luggage space you've got comfort you've got creature comforts in the sense of the electronics hi-fi nice options relaxed place to be but you've got a car that when you get there it's going to be setting lap times lap records i don't how this isn't a package that is just phenomenal and yes some might say that because i've got one coming i'm obviously going to be quite enthusiastic about it but the reason i've ordered one is because i had very wind of quite how good this car was going to be and it has not disappointed in any way shape or form before i've actually driven it here i've been reading some of the reviews by other journalists and things as well and i think pretty much everyone has said the same thing um or the same sort of feedback i've probably given you today but this this car this package this machine has just been it's mental it's mental bonkers epic uh mega all these internet keywords in one car and i know people will tell me to get a thesaurus and come up with some new words but i don't really feel the need to because they also accurately represent the car that i'm driving today i think this is it's going to be a uh an entry for next year's driver's car of the year and a lot of competitions i'm sure a lot of magazines i wouldn't be too surprised if it walks away with the field because yeah so an interesting also comparison is how is this um versus well for me versus my aston gtx which is slightly more expensive actually but less powerful v8 front engine rear wheel drive car but they are different packages different purposes the aston has a manual gearbox it's not going to be setting lap times it's about emotion drama and experience when you take it out and what it represents the fun would be part of the build and the specialness of it because they're only 150 whereas there'll be a few thousand of these but this is a car that you feel like you can go drive all the time oh that's an interesting one with my elbow i have pressed the comfort button um that's good to know that that can happen it's right where that would be um yeah so the gt8 is more special occasion this is all in one purpose like a beast it's that sort of r8 plus mclaren 570s platform but this is one with the engine up front rear driven wheels and that feel of the sort of balance distribution long wheelbase set up and feel lets you just have some fun so i i've come in coming away from today with a massive beam on my face and very very excited about this car that i've got coming because this has been a press launch to remember what a day i'm gonna head back now to porter now then i'll show you around all of this a little bit more go check out the exhibit they've got upstairs and then uh see maybe if we can do anything else before we wrap up so being a race circuit that means the way back in takes us through a tunnel so let's put the window down in here the back crackle in there not bad let's take a look around here then so there's quite a lot to show you and the first thing i actually want to point out is this toggle for the drive selection modes actually turns back on where you had it in the setting when you turned it off which is quite a nice feature this car along with pretty much every car i've driven today has the interior carbon fiber package which gives you the center console and carbon fiber surrounded by the sort of piano black fascia but here you can see your toggle with the different modes individual comfort sport support plus race that you just rotate around between the settings here the valve there engine start stop it has auto stop start as well when you come to a stop if you're driving in the regular modes your traction button which one press for sport press and hold um to engage the traction control feature so if you press and hold that you'll see it goes off and this engages which is yeah i mean we saw it earlier very nice we'll put it back in normal your multi-stage suspension control exhaust um the auto stop start manual or automatic paddles and then everything to do with the command control for the entertainment system more carbon fiber up here behind the quad vents in the center and your air conditioning climate control settings and the like which bring up there at the bottom of the um dashboard display temperature and stuff um which is all controlled through this system which i don't actually know too much about to be honest but we can go through the different sort of bits and pieces we've got here just very briefly so you can see rotating and pressing to select configure the individual dynamic select mode so this is where i guess we can um okay we can start to see that's the gtr display that is actually really really cool to have up in the center there on the main screen while you're driving on the track probably should have done that earlier in here is where we configure the individual drive settings depending what you want i'm liking this a lot it's nice animations too if i was to be a little bit nerdy about it all um and that's how we did have it so you can see the g4 sensor on the car when you're on the track and what else is going on um so yes there's a lot in here all your sort of usual stuff you expect to find in the car and then if we come down you've got all your settings and things as well wi-fi neat interesting um so as well as what you've got on this display let's pop it back into navigation you've also got the little display in the middle here so surrounded by the speedometer and the rev counter with the red sort of trim um that's i guess about the gtr and then that central screen is controlled through this pad here um on the left so if i just press home you can see that we've got a couple of different modes we can go through go into assistance graphic and that's the sort of how far ahead the car in front of you is um how long ago did you last take a stop from your driving there's probably quite a lot of stuff in here the amg screen so your boost uh speedometer uh g4 sensor your drive select options lap timer everybody likes a lap timer and then your boost and oil information so um there's there's a lot of stuff you can have and see which i like um it's always quite nice and then back to your normal kind of trip info back there so what else do you have on the inside so the burmester sound system um your mirror controls all down here um lights up through there um the button for the boot is that so i'll actually open that we'll go around and have a look at the boot at the moment and then underneath is the bonnet i'll show you in there too um paddles pretty nice um small small so more gt than race car you know if you're racing paddles they'd be i guess extended um they're not carbon fiber um but the alcantara wheels really really nice phone controls on that side um generally pretty cool um the interior carbon pack gives you the rear strut in satin carbon fiber as well which i really really like and then um if you can see it's all up here uh nice big lights um and some seat heat controls and that kind of stuff is up there uh on the roof along with lots of different lights and different things so for the minute let's drop it off um i'm going to open up the bonnet which i'm going to try and find down here while i hold the camera and then we will there we go then let's head round and have a look okay so firstly let's go to the boot lift that up it's a hatchback of course but there's a lot of space in there that would easily pass uh the human being test you could lie in and then you've got this sort of cover to hide your luggage as well um if you don't want it to be seen or you can put in some more luggage up top and use the whole space you can actually fit like bikes and things in here if you pack them quite um appropriately as has been demonstrated by other people you can shut that back down nice thud noise of the cars oh and there goes one it's so cool seeing amg gtrs everywhere now i've never opened this so i'm coming straight in let's open it up and we can see the car this engine the beast that makes all of this uh all of this work um but i think there's another one of those we can go see in the exhibition that's uh handcrafted by sebastian not entirely sure how you pronounce excuse me for my uh german there but um yes it's quite nice massively long bonnet plunk it back down now this guy has the adaptive cruise control which you can see by the um badge on the front with that slightly sort of i guess radar kind of look to it so i think that's enough for showing you around the car let's head upstairs and take a look around at some more let's take a look around the gtr sort of exhibition where we can see quite a lot more detail of the sort of changes and new components new materials and things so looking here at the complete shell and sort of chassis of the car you can see the active aerodynamic profiles around the front and the way those vents work you can see the front crash structure here made out of magnesium the carbon fiber panels the carbon fiber roof up here as well the rear wing take a closer look at that sort of adjustable mechanism which of course is having it in the vertical position like the track cars here for maximum downforce or you can light flat and to get your top speed out of it but if we go beyond that well firstly here is the engine all 585 horsepower of it from the twin turbocharged four liter v8 it doesn't look very tidy when you look at it like that but to make this car a lot of weight has been taken out of it i mean things like lithium-ion battery better in cold temperatures but also an awful lot lighter i can actually pick that one up but if i try and pick that up one-handed not going to happen you can see new sort of components all around upgraded from steel to being carbon fiber again to make them an awful lot lighter wheels the rxc style sort of amg performance wheel 1.2 kilos lighter per corner the bucket seat very much sort of modeled on the racing seat this is the standard option but you can have the sort of comfortable performance seats as well um for no extra charge but this is very much sort of race inspired you can put extra padding in if you want it but they're seven kilos lighter per seat as well then if we come and look at some of the sort of other components in the car you've got the prop shaft made from carbon fiber which means it's 14 kilos eight kilos lighter than the original system which was already pretty light for the gts um something like this the carbon fiber drive shaft four kilos weighs well four kilos not very much shall we say and then all sorts of other components carbon tunnel cross that goes underneath the car for extra rigidity as well as being lightweight so the entire car is 15 kilos lighter than the gts and all of that because you have the addition of extra things like the rear wing you have the rear wheel steer mechanism of course you have the motors and this is all a delicate balance so the motors here it's all a sort of weight benefit and purpose this is worth being electronically controlled whereas the wing should be uh manual because of where the weight is this being the weight over the front in front of the front axle wants to be obviously as light as possible so you don't have to wait in the wrong place this is really very cool having a look around here i love these kind of things where you can see the car will come over just have a look at the powertrain setup on this carbon ceramic brake in there you can see it all all in place through to the titanium exhaust system at the rear behind the gearbox magical that was an awful lot of fun but as you can tell things are starting to be wrapped up for the end of the day the cars will be prepped of course and ready for the next day and more outings on the track but i realize up to this point i haven't actually given you that much by way of headlines stats and numbers for this car which is really bad at me so 585 horsepower ps 577 brake horsepower 700 newton meters of torque north to 62 miles an hour 100 kilometers an hour 3.6 seconds so rear wheel drive a bit slow off the line top speed 318 kilometers an hour 198 miles per hour so slightly lower because of the drag with all of the extra arrow which is what gives it the downforce which is how it can set seven minutes and 10 seconds something laptop having just been around it pretty quick at the track here i feel like it can set some pretty quick lap times anywhere it goes because this really is one mightily impressive car i am very very excited about mine and i spent a little bit of time today thinking about specs for my car how i'm going to do it and i'm sure i'll release more info on that when i have set and i know where my delivery slot's going to be but for now i think it's goodbye from the beast of the green hell the mercedes amg gtr and a fabulous day driving what is really honestly and wholeheartedly an epic epic epic car so thank you very much for watching i apologize for quite how long i have gone on and showing you everything to do with this car today but it's been an amazing day and a wonderful opportunity so big thanks to mercedes amg i hope you've enjoyed it all that is it for now i'll catch up with you again very soon cheers youhi guys i'm shmee and hello to you from porter mao in portugal where i am joining mercedes for the press launch of the amg gtr now i'm going to have an opportunity to drive the new car out on the road and then on the race circuit as well and of course this is a particularly important car to me because i have one on order myself that i'm going to be taking you along the journey with when it arrives at some point hopefully during 2017. so this is the car well a couple of the cars that we're going to be filming with today the four liter twin turbo 585 horsepower beast of the green hell now i'm going to take this car out for a short little drive on the road before we come back for some track laps and then go for an extended drive slightly later on but of course being a car that's quite close to my own heart i feel like i know quite a lot about it but there is also an awful lot more i would like to learn and share with you so please excuse me if this is quite a lengthy video piece but there is a lot to this car and i want to experience it all and share that with you because i think it's pretty spectacularly awesome so let's jump in go for a little drive on some local roads around here before coming back afterwards for the track i'm heading out of the circuit then and i've clearly got a very big smile on my face because this is quite exciting and i've driven it for a couple of hundred meters literally just meters and it's already feeling seriously seriously dramatic it's much more of a sense of occasion than i necessarily expected this was going to be just sitting here at the wheel you've got the massive long bonnet out in front of you that's obviously known and familiar from the gt and the gts now i haven't actually driven the gts properly before i've just done really really gentle crews so this is going to be my most exciting drive in this platform of car you've got a lot of noise going on behind you you can hear those bubbles and i'm obviously in comfort mode taking the speed super gently and easily obviously we've got very slippy roads but i want to do this first little drive just to become a little bit familiar with the car understand what's going on before we're then out on a greasy race circuit so i mean sitting here right now i feel comfortable i feel at home i feel like i can do some long gt road trips in this but you do get a big sense that this car is derived from a race car we're exiting the track out under the gtr uh barriers we've got sort of some lane assistant there just as i moved over to the left lane i could tell well it vibrated the steering wheel to let me know i was doing it so we got lots of tech at play just gently down the gears very smooth and gentle and considered when you're in comfort mode it doesn't feel i guess like an angry brute or a beast of the green hell but you can tell it's there it's there and ready to get you if it wants to let's give it a little bit of a squirt here i've gone back into automatic of course okay driving like that that's kind of gentle um i'm obviously not expecting to do too much driving in the most gentlest of modes and we're going to come back and drive another car later on on the road a little bit more aggressively this is more just to sort of get an initial feel what it's like driving in what will be my future road car my future grand tourer the amg gtr it sounds good even in comfort and the steering is incredibly impressive you can tell the rear wheel steer is doing its thing as you go around corners or just had a couple of gentle ones so far you can feel that it's like on rails it's on tracks just going around with that technology at play i think we'll come back a little bit more to that later on as well ride is firm you can probably tell i'm bumping a little bit not hugely so i mean i've driven this road before on the e63 s um and that was obviously a car much more positioned towards comfort and luxury but it's not it's not sort of crazy bumps and bangs and this is sort of putting it to the test that's for sure and then you've got that you've got that noise behind you okay let's just have a little play with it in sport mode which is uh presumably going to put the exhaust into uh i don't know the exhaust is still in comfort we don't really want that we want to put the exhaust in loud which is done using this button here in the center console oh wow that is that's cool that's a lot of sound a lot of raw it does genuinely feel like a beast right now next on the agenda is definitely sport plus okay let's drop some gears is this where we start getting over on crackles yeah there we go okay this is where you lift off the sound of thunder so sport plus changes some configuration obviously it makes it further thanks oh my goodness that noise okay this is just gentle driving so you get a lot more exhaust sound in sport plus even in sports do you listen to that sorry i'm just giggling like a little child right now this sound is monumental it's the most beastly v8 raw this has to be the best sounding turbocharged engine that exists i just can't see anything touching the noise that this is capable of it yeah leaves me short of words but i'm gonna head back to the circuit and get prepared for some track time now that i've got the excitement of my first drive in the gtr out of the way but before we go out onto the track for some serious laps i've brought the car into the pit box here to show you around it go for a walk around it and talk in a little bit more detail about some of the changes that have gone into making this i mean we've got active aerodynamics we've got new use of materials and we've got a very different cosmetic look and that is where we're going to get started because this is the beast of the green hell and it is named that even the paint is named green hell magno because it has been developed at the nurburgring to quite a heavy extent in fact sport auto magazine have taken a stock mercedes amg gtr and done a time under 7 minutes and 11 seconds making it the fastest they have ever recorded even quicker than the 918 spyder and the fastest time ever by a rear driven car of course this is rear wheel drive only so that is pretty impressive as an achievement it also takes a lot of sort of learnings and lessons from the amg gt3 car especially on the cosmetic side and we'll start with that with the panamericana front grille with the 15 vertical chromed slats this is sort of copied off the gt3 card it allows a little bit more cooling through the grille of course but most importantly it has a more aggressive stance where the gts would only come up to about here with the front grille just that extended kind of look extra visual width to the car and it also has this sort of tilt towards the front to give it even more stance through that aggression there as well underneath that you've got a wider lower area for larger intakes you can see all the cooling that comes through here you've got the air curtains here at the side which obviously target the air and control the airflow around the side now we'll get to the active aerodynamics you've got these flaps here which open in just over a second to control airflow coming through the car and you've also got a splitter here at the bottom that can lower 40 millimeters downwards dependent upon speed so in race mode at 80 kilometers an hour it comes down in any other mode it's 120 kilometers an hour to give more grip at speed and obviously there's quite a lot of speed possible from this thing so you have i mean the satin paintwork that just um screams out loud look at me you can contrast that with the amg performance wheels and the ceramic calipers as well in gold and they come standard in yellow on the car but that saves 17 kilos and gives it some fairly incredible stopping power as well there's more active aero underneath the car it's got new materials so various components are made or body panels are made out of magnesium the roof is made out of carbon fiber you've got the rear spoiler the rear wing will come straight to that because that's a pretty dominant part of the visuals from the rear which is mechanically adjustable again more lessons from motorsport just i haven't said yet but the amg gt3 was pretty dominant at this year's n24 race dominating the top end of the podium well the top end of the entire grid to be honest um so again this car nurburgring dna all the way through it down here the double diffuser on this side and on the other side all working in tandem with the airflow underneath the car and the active aero at play and then here you've got the titanium exhaust system which has these carbon fiber pieces so basically it doesn't melt the bumper which is kind of cool you've got sort of well it's a quad system isn't it two in the middle and one on either side for the exhaust pipes so visually it's a beast you've got the new gtr logo designation as well on the exterior this thing is phenomenal he says i can just hear a car that might be about to roll past this is the patient waiting game behold the amg gtr right let's have a quick look on the interior in here you've got the dynamico with yellow and the bucket seats nice sorry for the lights it's very bright outside but it's very windy so i'm trying to film inside got some carbon fiber trim but you've also got this the drift control or rather amg dynamic traction control which has nine different settings so if i turn on the car actually i'm gonna come around and sit in the driver's seat here to demonstrate this we've got the mercedes key jump in alcantara steering wheel just start it up beast draws into life we're in sport plus which means the exhaust valve system is open and we'll come back and look around more of the interior here um a little bit later on but use the traction control put it into small handling mode i guess you press and hold to turn it off there we go now this is engaged and you've got your different modes you can see traction on all the way to traction off and the lights will change as you do this that's a very cool little feature it's exact same nine different setting modes that the gt3 car has so obviously i haven't played with that up to this point but what i am going to do while we're in here firstly just put traction on just in case but we're in park sport plus exhaust open let's just hear this for a second is that sound not completely incredible the stock factory titanium exhaust system i i'm blown away by it right i'm gonna shut this off for the moment because there is one other piece of technology i would like to talk about and that involves the wheels this car has rear wheel steering so you and i that translates to more grip at low speeds and more stability at high speeds up to 100 kilometers an hour the wheels are turning in the opposite angle so if you're turning left at the front the rear wheels are turning to the right that means you basically can corner like you're on rails when you're then going faster than 100 kilometers an hour they will turn in the same direction so if you're turning right at the front the rears are turning right as well to give you extra stability and grip so it's a pretty clever pretty intelligent system and just looking at the side profile of the car here it looks like a total monster but i suspect i have talked a little bit too long for you right now so let's take the car out and go on the track it's pretty windy but the cars are prepped there are six of them in total and that one right there is the one i'm going to get an opportunity now to have a couple of laps in out here at the portemour circuit not the first time i've driven the circuit but as always i need to take a little bit of time just to familiarize and be safe at the wheel before i guess we'll get shown how to do it properly later on this is just going to be what it's like for me experiencing the amg gtr on a race circuit so then we're coming around at the end of the sighting land putting flats to the floor down the start straight 250 already 250 something firm on the brakes we've got the carbon ceramic so obviously they're going to have a lot of stopping power um we're driving quite briskly already and i'm obviously i'm trying to think about talking to camera as well so this is a bit of a challenge for me but i can feel that this thing is super super playful i've got in sport plus mode so it's not even technically in race mode at the moment where it would put the traction off a little bit as well but it's got a lot of sound a lot of grunt it's a very very very quick machine with sort of lead following so i'm following a pace car there are a couple of puddles on the track as well but the brakes are stunning there's so much stopping power the throttle pedal the brake pedal they're very very sensitive they're very much like i guess race feel i can start to feel it twitching okay this is a lot to think about very very quickly right now the level of grip is really taking me by surprise because we're on a slightly damp track as well we've got a really really powerful rear-wheel drive car says going around that last corner i hate that last corner and pour them out balance is so throwing well but yeah the brakes are very very solid hey jack and flying out okay so now we're taking a little i tell you what now that i'm driving a little bit slower you don't half have to concentrate in here it is a very very involving experience i mean i've done quite a few drag days this year in quite a few unfamiliar cars but this has shut me up i found it very very very hard to think while driving because my concentration was on putting the power down to the road because there is so much of it and you can tell quite how capable it is i feel like it's a spectacularly playful car but i was concentrating on driving it to the performance angle as well not a bad first drive i'm i'm left feeling like that that was a proper drive that's how it's supposed to be wow for a first drive then oh my gosh that was insane okay what a drive the intensity and involvement you experience at the wheel of this car is like something completely different i was so much thinking about the driving you could probably tell from my speaking it's just like the delicate poison balance it is completely race car with kind of a number plate stuck on it that you can drive on the road but what i have done straight after getting back is sorted out another little innings so hopefully i can get a little bit more of an understanding move up from sport plus and try out the race mode as well but my word let's go round two then off we go i have to say the automatic gearbox in sport plus mode presumably also in race is brilliantly positioned for this it's always in the gear i wanted to be in there is literally no point in going into manual normally you sort of put your car into manual when for the first time you think that the sort of automatic car uh gearbox hasn't selected what you want it to be in but here it's always how i want it it's brilliant i'm very very very very happy with how the gearbox works obviously it's mercedes seven speed double clutch box so for lap two let's move it up into race mode so esc goes slightly more sporty so i'm gonna be a little bit careful now breaking down the dip i'm not using anything like the brakes the car has available to it okay i can start to feel it being a little bit more playful there already this really is a complete brute it makes me feel like i have to be absolutely on the game to concentrate and make sure i'm getting the absolute most out of it which is why it's hard to talk while driving it because every input impacts the steering is exceptional the throttle pedal fail the brake feel all exceptional i haven't even yet tried the different sort of custom traction settings with the amg traction control but in sport handling mode which comes with the race setting this is a proper driver's experience i mean front engine rear wheel drive lots of power an amazing soundtrack and some proper proper proper brakes on it as well so come in past the other cars there i just feel like i can feel the balance so easily and i'm not the best driver out there by any stretch of the imagination i can't imagine how amazing this must be when you get used to it you know this is my first go in this car traction holding me back slightly there because i put it down a little bit early wow maybe i'll give it a really quick go we'll need a pro tour showing me how it works properly so now i've got less traction running we're in the middle setting and i'm going to leave it there but let's um just put a bit of power down and see what it's got okay goodness i can feel the balance so perfectly this is beautiful car watercolors drive oh my goodness i must have the biggest smile on my face ever this is an absolute dream absolutely i'm not understeering i'm getting a little bit of oversteer i'm having a massive massive amount of fun the brakes are insane there just give it a little dab it's so controllable how have they done this this is this is insane i've got it on the cusp of sliding i just feel like the car is all mine to play with wow amg i don't know how you've done this but the boys in a volta have made something absolutely phenomenal this grin is never ever gonna go away i i'm speechless i'm utterly speechless that has to be one of the absolute drives of my life what is this it's freaking amazing and i think one of the best things is you can so naturally jump in i'm sorry for the wind it sounds so good so yes it's really windy outside but i think when customers get delivery of their gtrs you can jump in it and feel i mean it tests you but it rewards you so so well you can feel that balance and as you play a little bit oh my goodness i am very very excited as you can probably tell off the track and that means it's time now for my second and kind of proper road drive and for that i'm gonna drive in this selenite gray magno car again a satin paint work but this one's slightly more set up for the road and you'll see what i mean by that if we come to the inside because it has the standard you could say or optional on this performance amg seat this is the cv you can have in other models rather than the hardcore bucket seat and generally slightly lower configuration but let's jump in get started and take this car out let's take this a little bit more gently then it is a grand tourer kind of in virtue of the fact that the name is the amg gt gt grand thora um it might be a beastly turned up one and the way we've been driving it on track well i've been driving it has certainly felt like a savage animal but it has these capabilities also for being quite calm and civilized if you want it to be if you can ever call even the quiet mode the little noise you get from the v8 civilized but relatively speaking let's start from that point the seats are an interesting discussion point though because i don't actually find these seats as comfortable as the bucket i obviously thought they would be significantly more so but it's bucket seats all the way for me i just find them more supportive and more around we can have a look at the in the exhibition room when i get back at the end of this and show you that in a little bit more detail but just cruising along in comfort mode obviously everything's the softest possible we've got a nice trick suspension system that's super variable got all sorts of other controls and things we can change and play with we've got lots of entertainment and just general i guess comfort features your lane guidance you know the usual bits of bobs your adaptive cruise control everything you sort of want and this car also has the really nice 11 speaker burmester uh stereo system um on top of the 10 speaker one that comes with the premium sort of package that you can buy in terms of optional spec so driving like this i feel like i could be out on a motorway taking it very easy gently civilized and relaxed and it would be that exact grand tour of car now you can set up the uh mode toggle to have individual in fact let's see what individuals set up for here individual here is set up for sporty driving but quiet exhaust so we don't want that let's go the other way sport and sport plus as we basically discussed um earlier are by far the best modes for the road and i think pretty much unanimously mine is going to be in this sport plus mode because you just sort of do that lift off you get a nice bubble of bang and maybe that's some unburnt fuel being wasted but it's hilariously fun you've got a button on the other side to put it into a manual and i do find this whole area a little bit clumsy there's too much going like on over such a big area to find all those buttons but that's always been one of the things with the amg gt and the gts so if i had to be critical of something it would be all of that um and the way it's set up but that's pretty negligible that was quite a big bump but the car rode over it even in the support plot in the sport plus mode um that's where you've got your control for writing in the info for the screen that's all familiar from other mercedes models but now we're in manual let's uh do this a little bit that i mean okay i'm just gonna lower the window down a bit just so i can hear more of that wow i'm a little bit speechless the sound is mega you've got ship lights at the top of the dashboard which cool as well okay okay that would ever get boring because i really don't i mean i said it earlier this is how they made a twin turbocharged engine sound this phenomenon is kind of beyond me so let's put it back into automatic where like i said on the track earlier um it's really really good just being in the gear you want sport plus i i've driven lots of cars in that style and quite often you find yourself fumbling for a gear you want to change it but in here every single time the car has done what i want ahead of the time i've done it so there's no need to why bother putting it in manual if the car can accurately predict exactly where you're going to want it to be um but this mode doesn't actually seem too firm riding and you've got the suspension control button with different modes here so i can put that straight into comfort or sport or sport plus independently so i can have all the noise in sport plus well i could individual set this up and then um the suspension in comfort which is probably the way to do it um have that for normal driving something i'm really enjoying that's quite hard i think to explain the words might not quite make sense it's just how badass this car is it makes you feel like a bit of a gangster it's it's just cool um i think the sls black series c63 black series sl 65 black series they've always done that and this new introduction of this sort of r brand does it in just the same fashion the way the wing looks the way the whole thing feels and the way just you know you can catch the wing in your door mirror it just makes you feel like this is a cool car and it's a cool car that i want to take on some proper road trips and adventures as well and now that i've driven it i feel like it's the kind of car that i can take and drive comfortably daily long distance whatever it is i want to do and then at the other end on the track it's going to be a ridiculous weapon in its own right and it kind of renders so many other things and cars perhaps a little bit irrelevant because it's so capable in one machine you've got luggage space you've got comfort you've got creature comforts in the sense of the electronics hi-fi nice options relaxed place to be but you've got a car that when you get there it's going to be setting lap times lap records i don't how this isn't a package that is just phenomenal and yes some might say that because i've got one coming i'm obviously going to be quite enthusiastic about it but the reason i've ordered one is because i had very wind of quite how good this car was going to be and it has not disappointed in any way shape or form before i've actually driven it here i've been reading some of the reviews by other journalists and things as well and i think pretty much everyone has said the same thing um or the same sort of feedback i've probably given you today but this this car this package this machine has just been it's mental it's mental bonkers epic uh mega all these internet keywords in one car and i know people will tell me to get a thesaurus and come up with some new words but i don't really feel the need to because they also accurately represent the car that i'm driving today i think this is it's going to be a uh an entry for next year's driver's car of the year and a lot of competitions i'm sure a lot of magazines i wouldn't be too surprised if it walks away with the field because yeah so an interesting also comparison is how is this um versus well for me versus my aston gtx which is slightly more expensive actually but less powerful v8 front engine rear wheel drive car but they are different packages different purposes the aston has a manual gearbox it's not going to be setting lap times it's about emotion drama and experience when you take it out and what it represents the fun would be part of the build and the specialness of it because they're only 150 whereas there'll be a few thousand of these but this is a car that you feel like you can go drive all the time oh that's an interesting one with my elbow i have pressed the comfort button um that's good to know that that can happen it's right where that would be um yeah so the gt8 is more special occasion this is all in one purpose like a beast it's that sort of r8 plus mclaren 570s platform but this is one with the engine up front rear driven wheels and that feel of the sort of balance distribution long wheelbase set up and feel lets you just have some fun so i i've come in coming away from today with a massive beam on my face and very very excited about this car that i've got coming because this has been a press launch to remember what a day i'm gonna head back now to porter now then i'll show you around all of this a little bit more go check out the exhibit they've got upstairs and then uh see maybe if we can do anything else before we wrap up so being a race circuit that means the way back in takes us through a tunnel so let's put the window down in here the back crackle in there not bad let's take a look around here then so there's quite a lot to show you and the first thing i actually want to point out is this toggle for the drive selection modes actually turns back on where you had it in the setting when you turned it off which is quite a nice feature this car along with pretty much every car i've driven today has the interior carbon fiber package which gives you the center console and carbon fiber surrounded by the sort of piano black fascia but here you can see your toggle with the different modes individual comfort sport support plus race that you just rotate around between the settings here the valve there engine start stop it has auto stop start as well when you come to a stop if you're driving in the regular modes your traction button which one press for sport press and hold um to engage the traction control feature so if you press and hold that you'll see it goes off and this engages which is yeah i mean we saw it earlier very nice we'll put it back in normal your multi-stage suspension control exhaust um the auto stop start manual or automatic paddles and then everything to do with the command control for the entertainment system more carbon fiber up here behind the quad vents in the center and your air conditioning climate control settings and the like which bring up there at the bottom of the um dashboard display temperature and stuff um which is all controlled through this system which i don't actually know too much about to be honest but we can go through the different sort of bits and pieces we've got here just very briefly so you can see rotating and pressing to select configure the individual dynamic select mode so this is where i guess we can um okay we can start to see that's the gtr display that is actually really really cool to have up in the center there on the main screen while you're driving on the track probably should have done that earlier in here is where we configure the individual drive settings depending what you want i'm liking this a lot it's nice animations too if i was to be a little bit nerdy about it all um and that's how we did have it so you can see the g4 sensor on the car when you're on the track and what else is going on um so yes there's a lot in here all your sort of usual stuff you expect to find in the car and then if we come down you've got all your settings and things as well wi-fi neat interesting um so as well as what you've got on this display let's pop it back into navigation you've also got the little display in the middle here so surrounded by the speedometer and the rev counter with the red sort of trim um that's i guess about the gtr and then that central screen is controlled through this pad here um on the left so if i just press home you can see that we've got a couple of different modes we can go through go into assistance graphic and that's the sort of how far ahead the car in front of you is um how long ago did you last take a stop from your driving there's probably quite a lot of stuff in here the amg screen so your boost uh speedometer uh g4 sensor your drive select options lap timer everybody likes a lap timer and then your boost and oil information so um there's there's a lot of stuff you can have and see which i like um it's always quite nice and then back to your normal kind of trip info back there so what else do you have on the inside so the burmester sound system um your mirror controls all down here um lights up through there um the button for the boot is that so i'll actually open that we'll go around and have a look at the boot at the moment and then underneath is the bonnet i'll show you in there too um paddles pretty nice um small small so more gt than race car you know if you're racing paddles they'd be i guess extended um they're not carbon fiber um but the alcantara wheels really really nice phone controls on that side um generally pretty cool um the interior carbon pack gives you the rear strut in satin carbon fiber as well which i really really like and then um if you can see it's all up here uh nice big lights um and some seat heat controls and that kind of stuff is up there uh on the roof along with lots of different lights and different things so for the minute let's drop it off um i'm going to open up the bonnet which i'm going to try and find down here while i hold the camera and then we will there we go then let's head round and have a look okay so firstly let's go to the boot lift that up it's a hatchback of course but there's a lot of space in there that would easily pass uh the human being test you could lie in and then you've got this sort of cover to hide your luggage as well um if you don't want it to be seen or you can put in some more luggage up top and use the whole space you can actually fit like bikes and things in here if you pack them quite um appropriately as has been demonstrated by other people you can shut that back down nice thud noise of the cars oh and there goes one it's so cool seeing amg gtrs everywhere now i've never opened this so i'm coming straight in let's open it up and we can see the car this engine the beast that makes all of this uh all of this work um but i think there's another one of those we can go see in the exhibition that's uh handcrafted by sebastian not entirely sure how you pronounce excuse me for my uh german there but um yes it's quite nice massively long bonnet plunk it back down now this guy has the adaptive cruise control which you can see by the um badge on the front with that slightly sort of i guess radar kind of look to it so i think that's enough for showing you around the car let's head upstairs and take a look around at some more let's take a look around the gtr sort of exhibition where we can see quite a lot more detail of the sort of changes and new components new materials and things so looking here at the complete shell and sort of chassis of the car you can see the active aerodynamic profiles around the front and the way those vents work you can see the front crash structure here made out of magnesium the carbon fiber panels the carbon fiber roof up here as well the rear wing take a closer look at that sort of adjustable mechanism which of course is having it in the vertical position like the track cars here for maximum downforce or you can light flat and to get your top speed out of it but if we go beyond that well firstly here is the engine all 585 horsepower of it from the twin turbocharged four liter v8 it doesn't look very tidy when you look at it like that but to make this car a lot of weight has been taken out of it i mean things like lithium-ion battery better in cold temperatures but also an awful lot lighter i can actually pick that one up but if i try and pick that up one-handed not going to happen you can see new sort of components all around upgraded from steel to being carbon fiber again to make them an awful lot lighter wheels the rxc style sort of amg performance wheel 1.2 kilos lighter per corner the bucket seat very much sort of modeled on the racing seat this is the standard option but you can have the sort of comfortable performance seats as well um for no extra charge but this is very much sort of race inspired you can put extra padding in if you want it but they're seven kilos lighter per seat as well then if we come and look at some of the sort of other components in the car you've got the prop shaft made from carbon fiber which means it's 14 kilos eight kilos lighter than the original system which was already pretty light for the gts um something like this the carbon fiber drive shaft four kilos weighs well four kilos not very much shall we say and then all sorts of other components carbon tunnel cross that goes underneath the car for extra rigidity as well as being lightweight so the entire car is 15 kilos lighter than the gts and all of that because you have the addition of extra things like the rear wing you have the rear wheel steer mechanism of course you have the motors and this is all a delicate balance so the motors here it's all a sort of weight benefit and purpose this is worth being electronically controlled whereas the wing should be uh manual because of where the weight is this being the weight over the front in front of the front axle wants to be obviously as light as possible so you don't have to wait in the wrong place this is really very cool having a look around here i love these kind of things where you can see the car will come over just have a look at the powertrain setup on this carbon ceramic brake in there you can see it all all in place through to the titanium exhaust system at the rear behind the gearbox magical that was an awful lot of fun but as you can tell things are starting to be wrapped up for the end of the day the cars will be prepped of course and ready for the next day and more outings on the track but i realize up to this point i haven't actually given you that much by way of headlines stats and numbers for this car which is really bad at me so 585 horsepower ps 577 brake horsepower 700 newton meters of torque north to 62 miles an hour 100 kilometers an hour 3.6 seconds so rear wheel drive a bit slow off the line top speed 318 kilometers an hour 198 miles per hour so slightly lower because of the drag with all of the extra arrow which is what gives it the downforce which is how it can set seven minutes and 10 seconds something laptop having just been around it pretty quick at the track here i feel like it can set some pretty quick lap times anywhere it goes because this really is one mightily impressive car i am very very excited about mine and i spent a little bit of time today thinking about specs for my car how i'm going to do it and i'm sure i'll release more info on that when i have set and i know where my delivery slot's going to be but for now i think it's goodbye from the beast of the green hell the mercedes amg gtr and a fabulous day driving what is really honestly and wholeheartedly an epic epic epic car so thank you very much for watching i apologize for quite how long i have gone on and showing you everything to do with this car today but it's been an amazing day and a wonderful opportunity so big thanks to mercedes amg i hope you've enjoyed it all that is it for now i'll catch up with you again very soon cheers you\n"
