Another game blowing up NVIDIA GPUS Here we go again!

**The Great GPU Failure: A Warning to Gamers**

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, folks. The game is doing nothing but exposing something else wrong with the hardware. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything else you can do besides waiting to see what people say about whether or not cards are continuing to die. We're not talking one or two cards here; we're talking at least dozens, all over the place, different kinds of systems, different resolutions, different FPS - all sorts of different combinations of hardware that are failing.

Personally, I would personally say let's wait and see before we take our 1200 graphics card, which still costs you $800 or more today to replace. I don't think capping the FPS based on what I've read is going to make a difference; I don't think having V-Sync, G-Sync, or FreeSync on is going to matter; and I don't think whether it's water-cooled or air-cooled is going to matter either. This is just if your card is a quote-unquote "ticking time bomb" because there's some known bad capacitor or VRM that's failing on these cards in these certain use cases - it's going to happen to you eventually, whether it's this game or another game in the future.

This is kind of scary and sucks. I think that's why Gigabyte might be like out of lunch at the moment when it comes to standing by their warranties on this. The reason why I'm giving Gigabyte such a hard time right now is they are notoriously one of the worst companies to deal with when it comes to RMA, period, end of story.

**A Note on Motivation**

There's no motive other than "hey, just know this is happening." No, there's enough random reports here and people bringing it to my attention that I did my own research and looked around to see how many people are talking about it. If your person messages me and says like, "Hey Jay, this happened to me," you should go online and talk about it because I'm mad. If you're one person, I'm sorry I won't make a video because one person had a problem, especially when they're trying to drag a company through the mud.

But if they come to me and say, "Hey look into this problem," there are lots of people talking about it, and it's not the same person posting on all the different forums. Then it's worth talking about and bringing to you guys' attention because as a content creator in this space, I feel like I have the responsibility of saying, "Hey, this is happening; we don't know why it's happening, but we know it's happening to this particular type of hardware."

**The Problem and the Consequences**

This particular type of hardware seems to be prone to failure. A lot of the reports have also said they smell burning - that's never a good thing. I would advise people to hold off on loading up the game if you don't have $1200 to literally catch fire.

If Gigabyte is not standing by their warranty, because these cards should be well into warranty still in warranty by now, if they're not standing by their warranty, you can absolutely guarantee that we're going to continue to drag them through the mud, not only under the bus but behind a train of buses because they'll deserve it.

**Triangulation and Data**

If you're affected by this, do me a favor - reach out to me at jhsense@gmail.com. I'd like to know your system, the OS you were running, the driver you were running, exact model number of your graphics card, because I really want to try and do some triangulation of data here to see if there's kind of a hot spot or like a just a Venn diagram of issues and where the center mass is on that - "where it's like, hey this is the most likely scenario which you're going to have this failure."

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enokay so I was tipped off via email on uh this particular issue um it's literally like new world all over again how it was affecting 3090s and this time it appears that the cards as being affected is specifically a 3080 TI model although there are a few reports of some Asus cards in there too so quick overview of what the problem is very similar to New World and irony is that the new world issue which turned out to not be an issue with new world as much as new world was like a perfect storm that was exposing an issue Hardware wise with EVGA cards um it's like the perfect storm but the new world was also in beta when that happened and then I guess the developers got involved and were able to create a situation where maybe it wouldn't push the card as hard but realistically the card should never fail no matter what game or anything that you're running however if we go back in time we would look at furmark a piece of software can absolutely push a graphics card Beyond its limits in some way to cause physical damage that's neither here nor there so what you're going to see right here as we talk about the high level what the issue is again this video is designed the amount of people ask me Jay You're Gonna Play Diablo 4. it's designed to give you an idea of this is happening here's how to expose your limitation or limit your exposure to it and then just move on from it okay that way you don't find yourself with a graphics card if you end up having a card that has a problem okay so you're gonna get people saying it's not the game and other people saying yes it is because the card only broke when playing this game this it's like saying if you take your car and you crash it into a wall like be careful Hondas will die if you crash into this kind of wall but the wall is only exposing a problem which is that physics happens right okay bad analogy but whatever moving on so Diablo 4 just closed uh its closed beta so this is affecting people right now that have been partaking in the closed beta they're moving on to open Beta at the end of this week so I feel like putting this video out right now is kind of important to give you some tips that if you're going to play the game maybe to limit this issue potentially happening to you um it's it's explicitly seeming to be explicitly seeming to be affecting 3080 TI gigabyte cards but like I said the beginning of this video already there's a few other brands that have that have kind of popped up so far I think an Asus card and I think another I think it was two different kinds of Asus cards I got tough and a strict but anyway what they're finding here is that is it's apparently cutting out or going black screen with 100 fan speed and then rebooting your system and getting the failed VGA bios flag or loading or just a VGA failure during the post process um after various cutscenes and it seems to be two different cutscenes that are being reported over and over that that's what's happening one's a chapel scene and then I don't I'm not I can't find a definitive what the other is but every single time the report and I've got a ton of Articles up here and I'm going to put some links to them down below so you guys can read them they're on the blizzard forums they're on the gigabyte forums they're on the Reddit forums um I'm warn you right now don't read the comments the comments are trashed it's Reddit the comments are trash they're absolutely garbage they're not there's nothing constructive taking place there but if you look at the trends which is the amount of people just Google just Google Diablo 4 kills 3080 tis and you'll find people like us talking about it and you'll find people that it's happened to talking about it so if you start to kind of I can connect dots that's when you can say okay this title in the closed beta is exposing an issue with a particular card so let's get it clear right now we're not blaming blizzard but we are saying that this particular use case is creating the perfect storm for something Hardware wise taking place on these particular cards and just like new world it was exposing some weak solders that existed in various 3090 EVGA for the win three cards and early sample cards not early sample early production cards um where they were able to warranty those cards and get them fixed and and everything was fine later because they found the problem prior to that and had already fixed it so moving on the other issue here is that it's gigabyte and what I mean by that is one of the biggest complaints that people are having right now is trying to get gigabyte to warranty these cards this is the actual story here the gigabyte warranty page is like crashed I almost feel like when a ton of stuff like this happens and you know what I I wear my tinfoil hat during this I feel like when this kind of stuff is happening and a certain card in this case gigabyte is starting to show failures in a certain use case that's now becoming widespread they like shut down the site so people can't RMA so people can't even start tickets and stuff it's a it's a conspiracy theory but I firmly believe right now that someone somewhere was like shut it down don't let him report the cards being bad also has this 3080 TI in terms of the timing it's interesting because we now know at this point with the open Beta in whatever engine format the API draw calls Etc asking the 3080 TI gigabyte cards to do something during this cut scene is sending the gigabyte card over the edge and that's where the failures are happening because of the timing of knowing when 3080 TI's were built I would love to know if these cards were uh early edition cards meaning were they like the first few batches of 3080 TI's that came out because if you overlap that timeline with the shortages and not just the shortages of graphic graphics cards as a whole but shortages of components as a whole we're talking like Japanese capacitors and stuff remember things took a long time to get out of Japan that's why our fx6 camera that we're shooting on right now took so long for us to finally buy it because it wasn't available because Electronics coming out of Japan were very very slow and hard to get so you'll find that there could be a quote-unquote component quality issue with a certain timeline of cards being built at a time when it was very difficult to build cards at a time where it was very difficult to keep them in stock and the demand was through the roof and the supply was not able to keep up so it seems like it very plausible argument that the 3080 TI card in question here could all fall within a certain date range of when things were just maybe built with like duct tape and Band-Aids and then of course that's a oversimplification but if there's maybe a component that wasn't available so they had to go to a sub vendor or someone they don't normally get vendors from like capacitors or diodes or chokes or whatever maybe they're not quite up to the standard they normally would be but to get the card out as fast as possible and to try and meet demand maybe some of this stuff isn't as high quality as you'd be expecting because I've what I've seen so far is the story is the same every single time screen goes black fans go 100 percent system freezes locks up whatever you know you may hear the sound repeating or control or delete nothing happens or hitting power button on your system nothing happens that tells you the system is fully locked up and it seems to be during the same exact cut scene there's a lot of discussion that takes place here unfortunately if you read the comments you'll see what kind of like horse it actually is but there's a lot of people saying well if you don't have your FPS capped referring to the driver if you don't have your FPS cap then of course your card's gonna die this isn't an engine people it's not like you're sitting out there foot to the floor and then just going I want to hold on the engine before it explodes the way electronics are designed and should operate is you could run it at 100 load for its entire life and it won't fail because it's expected to have a threshold where 100 it's not a true hundred percent it's well below where the failure would be so you should be able to run it at a load 100 all day every day and never fail but we all know that's not exactly the case because Lo loading things up leaving 100 eventually May expose a shortcoming or a weakness somewhere in the design and new world and now down before closed beta seems to have been that one-off very strange test that exposes something that may not have even otherwise been noticed because we're two years past this card now and they're just now starting to crop up Crosshair brings gaming to the next level with the Xenon 45 inch flexible OLED Xenon Flex display with up to 240Hz refresh rate 0.03 millisecond graded gray response time motion blur canceling anti-reflective coating burning protection and customizable Bend based on user's preference the Xenia on flexman Corsair allows Gamers to truly tailor their display to their liking click the link below for more details saying you didn't cap your FPS is crap because that that's not how it works you should be able to run your card at 100 however we've seen if you've ever had fraps open or any sort of FPS counter and you load a game and you start hearing coil wine like crazy coming from your graphics card and you look and you're like why is my loading screen at 3 500 FPS obviously that puts a lot of stress on the card however the card should still be able to handle that theoretically that's one of those capacitors just or chokes just vibrates itself loose which it shouldn't never happen but capping your FPS shouldn't be an issue but the thing is if you start reading through the comments you'll find folks that are saying hey my card died and I had vsync on and there ain't no 3000 FPS monitors out there so what can you do to limit your exposure to this problem well if you're planning on playing the Diablo 4 open Beta which is coming in just a few days by the time as I'm making this video maybe wait a little bit and see what people are saying because I blizzard has to be aware of this by now they have to be aware of this by now to some degree and be able to say hey um if if people are reporting that my card died and it's the same cut scene they can at least look at that code in that cutscene like what's happening here or they can even artificially like see a lot of the theories with the new world failures and in the beta was that the menu system was just free like running away it was just free running the FPS whatever arbitrary thousands of FPS that could generate it was doing and the theory was that that was also what was killing the card now the developers which is Amazon of new world came out and said that's not possible that's not how this works but what we've done to put some of your concerns at ease is we've limited the menu to 60 FPS that kind of a thing so blizzard may do something like that now it depends on how the sets the cutscenes are rendered are they a actual movie that it's playing you'll notice sometimes in some games you go to a cut scene and if you look at your FPS and your GPU load it'll drop dramatically and then the FPS drops to 30. you know why it's playing a movie it's playing a video at that point and then you'll load into the game like after the cut scene and then you'll hear your card whining in again and the fans go up and the temp go up because it's back to rendering a world sometimes those cut scenes are actually rendered they're like a live render of something happening which is why sometimes you'll see bugs and glitches and stuff happen in it because it's a render so if something weird with the cutscene is happening with the renderer that's something blizzard could still address but the point is no gay game like this should ever be killing a graphics card let's make sure we're clear about this the game is doing nothing but exposing something else wrong with the hardware now unfortunately I don't think there's anything else you can do besides waiting to see what people say about whether or not cards are continuing to die because we're not talking one or two cards here guys can check out the articles on your own like I said if you're going to hit expand on the comments on Reddit just maybe have a poncho on I don't know fire suit fire suit maybe just have some hand sanitizer nearby because there's so much crap going around anyway all right guys I'm gonna keep my eyes on this because if gigabyte is not standing by there because these cards should be well into warranty still in warranty by now if they're not standing by their warranty you can absolutely guarantee that we're going to continue to drag them not only under the bus but we're going to drag them it's happening to this particular type of Hardware but this particular type of game maybe hold off on loading that game up if you don't have 1200 bucks to literally Catch Fire um because a lot of the reports have also said they smell burning so that's never a good thing yeah it gets it gets worse people anyway the links are down below you guys can check out the articles on your own like I said if you're going to hit expand on the comments on Reddit just maybe have a poncho on I don't know fire suit fire suit maybe just have some hand sanitizer nearby because there's so much crap going around anyway all right guys I'm gonna keep my eyes on this because if gigabyte is not standing by there because these cards should be well into warranty still in warranty by now if they're not standing by their warranty you can absolutely guarantee that we're going to continue to drag them not only under the bus but we're going to drag them behind a train of buses because they'll deserve it so gigabyte get your site working except the rmas but it's clearly something as physically wrong with these graphics cards all right guys thanks for watching if you're affected by this do me a favor reach out to me at jhsense gmail.com if you still have your card I'd like to know your system the OS you were running the driver you were running exact model number of your graphics card because I really want to try and do some triangulation of data here to see if there's kind of a hot spot or like a just a a Venn diagram of issues and where the center mass is on that where it's like hey this is the most like likely scenario which you're going to have this failure all right guys thanks for watching we'll see in the next one\n"
