How To Make Money with Your Laser - Personalizing Flasks

**The Art of Laser Engraving: A Journey of Trial and Error**

As I sat down to edit this video, I couldn't help but think about the importance of testing and prototyping when it comes to laser engraving. "Guys, you're going to do it, it's not going to look right because you should be doing your own tests and going from there," I said to my audience. "Definitely ask people for their settings to get a baseline, but always test on your own machine." These words of wisdom were echoed by the community, who emphasized the value of testing and iteration in achieving success with laser engraving.

As I began to clean up the footage, I couldn't help but think about the process of taking a design from concept to reality. "I just want to say thank you guys for sticking around to the end of the video," I said, acknowledging the dedication and patience that my audience had shown throughout the project. "If you have any questions, comments leave them down below in the comments." These words of appreciation were followed by a call-to-action, encouraging viewers to engage with the content and share their own experiences.

For those who had been following my journey, I wanted to express my gratitude for their support. "An extra special thanks goes out to all of my patrons," I said, mentioning the sponsors who had made it possible for me to continue creating content. "These guys are amazing, they're the ones that keep me in lasers and whiskey." I also acknowledged the top-tier patrons, affectionately referred to as "boilermakers," who had gone above and beyond to support my channel.

Moving on to the project at hand, I began by addressing the coated metal engraving. As I showed off the finished product, I explained that it was a relatively easy process to clean up. "Give it a couple squirts with some water use a magic eraser or melamine sponge," I instructed. "Don't buy the expensive ones, i will link down below to the cheap ones you can buy 50 for like 18 bucks and then you're gonna wipe it off." This straightforward approach made the process accessible to beginners, while also providing valuable tips for those who had already gained experience with laser engraving.

As I continued to work on the project, I began to discuss the importance of understanding the limitations of my equipment. "I have shirts like this i might start making flasks like this too but here's what we're looking at," I said, showing off a prototype flask that had been recently finished. "Two things one this should be darker two like see how like the g the n and the g kind of like disappear over there as the laser was dropping more off this it was more out of focus so so not a great result but this tells me kind of what to do and through the magic of youtube i don't know if you can tell or not." These observations highlighted the need for careful testing and experimentation, even when working with established equipment.

One of the most significant challenges that I faced during this project was understanding how to properly mark stainless steel. "So i have miraculously in the last three days i did another one two things one i did this on the d1 because i already had the settings but uh two it wasn't that i had the settings wrong on the referral actually i did have the settings wrong on the referral," I explained, revealing a mistake that had been made. "It wasn't that the infero was engraving too light i was using the settings for coated metal when i should have been using the settings for stainless steel." This lesson learned served as a reminder to always double-check my settings and materials.

As I moved on to the dry molly process, I couldn't help but think about the importance of understanding how different lubricants work. "Dry molly is a lubricant which means okay yes theoretically you can do it," I explained, discussing the process of removing dry molly from a flask. "It is going to take you five times as long to take it off with water as it is with lacquer thinner use lacquer thinner work smarter not harder." These words of wisdom highlighted the need for patience and persistence when working with different materials.

Finally, I turned my attention to the build quality of the flask. As I showed off the finished product, I explained that there was still room for improvement. "I have a bit of an issue with i don't know how well you can see it is the build that build kind of really runs together um in the logo," I said, pointing out a design flaw. "So i think if i was gonna redo this one again i would make it bigger so you could see it or maybe take the build that build out and just use the skull part of the logo." This self-criticism served as a reminder to always strive for perfection in my work.

In conclusion, I wanted to express my gratitude to my audience for their support and engagement throughout this project. "Let's build that build a place where we can share our knowledge and learn from each other," I said, emphasizing the importance of community in the world of laser engraving. As I looked back on the journey that had brought me to this point, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The art of laser engraving was a complex and challenging process, but with patience, persistence, and a willingness to learn from mistakes, it was possible to create beautiful and functional pieces of art.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys i'm nick and this is bill debb build a place where we believe it is better to give than to receive which is why when you have a flask in your hand always point the giving part this way okay guys let's talk about making a little money with your laser you know you just went out and you bought that laser your your your wife your husband your partner is upset that you dropped the dough on that thing and you're like but baby i got you so i know you said that not having any idea what you're gonna say next but i got you okay guys so a very easy super quick way to make money with your laser is by engraving flasks with your coated metal ones you can just engrave them straight out of the box with your stainless steel ones we are going to apply three coats of dry moly lube to get us a nice dark edge on this thing all right but let's talk some numbers one thing you have to take into consideration is most of the time people are not going to buy one flask from you it's going to be for like a wedding party or a birthday party or something like that so a lot of times you're going to get orders for multiple flasks which is always a bonus because you've already got everything set up and you just got to run through the machine okay so i'm in my favorite place etsy again just looking at flasks so what i'm seeing here is that they're charging like with nothing they're charging like 13 to 15 bucks a flask and then where they're getting you is is when you go in and you pick your engraving and stuff like that it's an up charge but let's say let's say 13 bucks a flask and that's for the six ounce painted ones okay so on amazon i'll link it down below i ordered 20 flasks this kind and they come with the they come with a little box and they come with the uh the funnel to fill these i ordered 20 flasks for 50 bucks and just because whenever i try to do math on the fly i don't get it right 49.99 divided by 20. um that comes out to like 249 250 a flask so if you're charging what we say 13 bucks that's 10 bucks profit uh i would charge for shipping on these unless they get over a certain amount because that way you're gonna you're gonna push your sales right so 10 bucks a flask and and when you see how quick and easy it is especially with the painted flasks uh you'll see why that is important okay so a stainless steel eight ounce which is what this flask is a stainless steel flask on etsy it looks like they're going for about 24.99 a pop what that is a lot i also paid wow i know this is the same price i also paid the same price i paid 49.99 for 20 of these um the eight ounce flasks i think they're eight ounces yep if you wanted a six ounce or 45 i'll link those down below as well this is going to take a little bit more time to do but if you even if you sold these at like 13 to 15 bucks you're still looking at that same 10 to 12 buck profit per unit all right so first things first we're gonna go out and we're going to prep this flask for engraving what we're gonna do is we're gonna apply three coats of dry moly lube what this is gonna allow us to do is have a much deeper marking on the flask so it'll really be more pronounced i did a video on how to mark metal i will link that up here but the dry maui which i'll link down below because i don't know if you can pick this up any place i could only find it in amazon it may be at like auto parts stores maybe uh but i'm not exactly sure where to pick this up but this stuff is is the key right here what this is going to give you a much darker edge if you you can't hatch directly onto stainless but a lot of times it's not it's not real pronounced and we want like a nice dark edge okay so let's take this guy outside we'll get it started basically what we're gonna do is we're gonna do one coat we're gonna wait 15 minutes another coat 15 minutes one more coat 15 minutes we're ready to go in the meantime we will we'll pick an image and we will be working on this guy okay i did tape this top off that's only because i don't want to try to have to get dry mali off of all of the bits and bobs in here take or dry molly all right and come back in 15 minutes and while the stainless steel is prepping outside we are going to use the coated metal one right here we're going to take it over to the xtool d1 uh and get this sucker engraved all right and one thing i just want to draw your attention to this nice little spoil board that we have down here with this grid on it uh this is very cool uh this is something that buster beagle 3d um did a video on i will link that in the description down below uh basically what you do is you pick up these 3d printed feet he's got a file if you want to print them yourself if you don't have a 3d printer you can order them from him and what this allows you to do is always set your laser in the same spot once you get the feet on he has a free file for this grid that's just going to help you get things aligned works out really well watch his video on how to set this up how to get your center and all that stuff very informative guy go if you're not subscribed to him subscribe to him uh you will really enjoy his content if you like this kind of stuff and remember if you're gonna buy the feet buy them from him uh support the guy man come on you know how this works i'm just gonna head into laser box basic that is xtools proprietary software okay here we are in laser box i'm going to bring in our image it's going to take just a second because it's kind of huge we're going to scale it down though so we're all good we're all good man we're all good oh there we go okay all right so here is our image it is huge mungus uh the engravable surface of a six ounce flask is about 100 milliliters by 100 millimeters so we're going to come in here we're going to select this we're going to make it about 75. bring this over here we're going to control plus and punch into it just to see it's um if you need to move around you can always hit the space bar and get your little grabby hand and you can move around there this isn't really gonna matter too much though uh we're gonna come up to material we're gonna go to coated metal and just use those settings connect to the laser box on com5 pull this up and what i'm going to do is i'm going to set the starting point right there so i know where this is going to be and from here what we're going to do is we're going to run a frame so the framing button is right here and then we will uh and then we'll go ahead and hit start i'm just showing these buttons because i'm going to cut the recording off in a second but that's the next two things we're gonna do right now let's hop over into the laser bed and uh and get everything situated situated potato potato okay one of the main things you need to remember is when you're aligning this since this is the kind of a curved surface you're you're gonna have to split your focus so i'm gonna bring this up a little bit i'm gonna drop my kickstand and instead of going to the middle like you normally would i'm going to come out here to about halfway through that curve and we're going to we're going to set our focus to there kind of split the difference in that way we shouldn't get too much like not unfocused business the crosshairs are offset from the laser in the module but it takes it into consideration so even though the crosshairs are in the center right now the laser's over here when it starts going it's going to center to where the crosshairs are so don't worry about that deviation now we're going to run a frame just to kind of see where it's going to be and mainly i just want to see how close it's coming to the edges make sure that i like the size and like how close i'm going to the bottom i think i'm going to come down just a little bit we're going to run more one more frame this is kind of personal preference okay so i like that so what do we do when we like it we give it the beans let's hit start now we have our stainless steel flask covered in dry molly i went ahead and took the tape off obviously you don't need it anymore but uh so we've got this guy ready to go i'm gonna do this one on the afro laser 2. i will link that down below as well if it is still january february uh there is a flash sale going on on the afro it's a good price if you're gonna check it out aligning the focus on this one is a little bit more difficult just because of the way it's designed uh basically we're gonna put our card here and what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna drop this down on the carb i'm going to pull the card out and i'm just going to like try to split the difference it's a little tiny move hopefully we got that right i don't have a spoiler board on this yet so i don't have a grid so i'm kind of eyeballing the alignment now you probably can't see it but i do have a little line drawn right on there with pencil i'm gonna fire the laser and i'm gonna actually take this off you gotta be real careful when you take this off because it's so close but come down here and right about there slide this on very carefully as to not hit anything with it there we go okay all right that is where we want to be okay so here we are in light burn um we have our png here it is enormous again um and this is just how i picked it up so the flask itself is a little taller but it's still um about the same width so i think we're going to go with about 80 and see what that does so that gives us about that gives us a little bit more oh interesting i thought it would be taller and not wider let's go let's go with a height of 80. see what that gives us okay so that's going to give us a width of 90. so it's going to be pretty close to the edges but i think it'll be all right all right we're going to punch into this i am hoping that i can get this to engrave in like engrave this part like all the way and not be a lighter color uh we're gonna try to figure out how we're gonna do that here right now uh we're gonna come in here we're gonna go to constant power mode which means that i just want it to be the same power the whole time so we're just going to pull those we're going to come in here we're going to say all right um let's go with 1800 and 50. now my only concern is this might take forever so let's let's do a quick uh preview and see how long it's going to take uh 18 minutes that's not too bad all right so let's uh let's rock and roll all right now we're going to do is we want to set our origin we're going to start uh middle top and that's just so we can be lined up um if you guys don't know how to fire the laser if you come over here to move hit fire it'll fire it if this isn't showing up come up here and let's see i thought it was up here you wanna you wanna switch this over enable laser fire button hit okay um in light burn you have to shut down and reopen it for this button to show up once it shows up we're to fire it take a look we're all good and then what we want to do is we want one we want to run a frame so the next two things i'm going to do is i'm going to frame and then we are going to actually engrave it how you run a frame to where you can see it is hold down the shift button when you hit frame it'll fire the laser while it's going i'm going to hop off here and we're going to frame it and then one two three give it the beans all right so the lasers are done doing their things we still need to clean these guys up i'm a little worried about the stainless steel one i think my image area i think i went too far off the the edges because they kind of slope off more at the at the very edge so i'm a little concerned that that etch didn't turn out great but this is why always expect to like burn one or two products when you're trying to get your settings and your size and everything correct uh this right here is going to tell me that maybe i needed to make my image a little smaller maybe i even need to use a different image all those kind of things come up in the testing phase so always test when people ask you when you feel the need to ask somebody their settings know that you're going to use their settings you're going to do it it's not going to look right because you should be doing your own tests and going from there definitely ask people for their settings to get a baseline but always test on your own machine okay before i clean these up and get to the results i just want to say thank you guys for sticking around to the end of the video if you have any questions comments leave them down below in the comments if you like this video hit that like button if you have not subscribed subscribe please subscribe it really helps me out and an extra special thanks goes to all of my patrons these guys are amazing they are the ones that keep me in lasers and whiskey there's a new shirt for you keeping me in lasers and whiskey since 2017. how about that an extra extra special thanks goes to my top tier patrons or boilermaker patrons steven mann eric weiss derrick coates chuck faulkner puffy muffins jim carter andy the viking dwight smith and christopher walters clinkies i swear it's coffee let's clean the easy one up first this is the coated metal done on the d1 as you can see it it's kind of dark right now and that's just the soot from the laser easy way to clean these up give it a couple squirts with some water use a magic eraser or melamine sponge don't buy the expensive ones i will link down below to the cheap ones you can buy 50 for like 18 bucks and then you're gonna wipe it off wipey wipey wipey wipey and then we're gonna dry it off just so you all can see it wait look at that flask baby uh so i have shirts like this i might start making flasks like this too but here's what we're looking at it looks okay but do you see what i'm talking about well okay so there's two things happening here one this should be darker two like see how like the g the n and the g kind of like disappear over there as the laser was dropping more off this it was more out of focus so so not a great result but this tells me kind of what to do and through the magic of youtube i don't know if you can tell or not it's been a couple of days i probably wasn't wearing the beanie before maybe i was um i've been sick so i'm coming back in the shop so basically we had an issue with the way that the flask engraved are marked for the stainless steel so i have miraculously in the last three days i did another one two things one i did this on the d1 because i already had the settings but uh two it wasn't that i had the settings wrong on the referral actually i did have the settings wrong on the referral it wasn't that the infero was engraving too light i was using the settings for coated metal when i should have been using the settings for stainless steel anyway and i made it a little smaller i dig it i dig it i feel like it might need to move over to the left just a little bit you tell me what you think regardless very cool this is this is going to go into my arsenal of flasks you cannot have it so two things two things to take away one this is dry molly i took it off lacquer thinner i'm in a laser group where they're like oh yeah you can totally take it off or you can take dry molly off with water okay dry molly is a lubricant which means okay yes theoretically you can do it it is going to take you five times as long to take it off with water as it is with lacquer thinner use lacquer thinner work smarter not harder but what do you think this is now my new favorite flask i feel like i like this one um one thing that i that i have a bit of an issue with i don't know how well you can see it is the build that build kind of really runs together um in the logo so i think if i was gonna redo this one again i would make it bigger so you could see it or maybe take the build that build out and just use the skull part of the logo but this is the reason we prototyped guys this is the reason we test does this look totally fine when i was working on it uh now now i kind of want to change it up a little bit anyway guys easy easy way to make money with your laser but most of all thanks for sticking around till the end of the video and until next time thanks for playing and now i gotta get to work let's build that build a place where we believe it is better too what i'm just looking at yeah and christopher walker damn it see and christopher jesus what is it and christopher i'm reading it and i can't do itwhat's up guys i'm nick and this is bill debb build a place where we believe it is better to give than to receive which is why when you have a flask in your hand always point the giving part this way okay guys let's talk about making a while it's going i'm going to hop off here and we're going to frame it and then one two three give it the beans all right so the lasers are done doing their things we still need to clean these guys up i'm a little worried about the stainless steel one i think my image area i think i went too far off the the edges because they kind of slope off more at the at the very edge so i'm a little concerned that that etch didn't turn out great but this is why always expect to like burn one or two products when you're trying to get your settings and your size and everything correct uh this right here is going to tell me that maybe i needed to make my image a little smaller maybe i even need to use a different image all those kind of things come up in the testing phase so always test when people ask you when you feel the need to ask somebody their settings know that you're going to use their settings you're going to do it it's not going to look right because you should be doing your own tests and going from there definitely ask people for their settings to get a baseline but always test on your own machine okay before i clean these up and get to the results i just want to say thank you guys for sticking around to the end of the video if you have any questions comments leave them down below in the comments if you like this video hit that like button if you have not subscribed subscribe please subscribe it really helps me out and an extra special thanks goes to all of my patrons these guys are amazing they are the ones that keep me in lasers and whiskey there's a new shirt for you keeping me in lasers and whiskey since 2017. how about that an extra extra special thanks goes to my top tier patrons or boilermaker patrons steven mann eric weiss derrick coates chuck faulkner puffy muffins jim carter andy the viking dwight smith and christopher walters clinkies i swear it's coffee let's clean the easy one up first this is the coated metal done on the d1 as you can see it it's kind of dark right now and that's just the soot from the laser easy way to clean these up give it a couple squirts with some water use a magic eraser or melamine sponge don't buy the expensive ones i will link down below to the cheap ones you can buy 50 for like 18 bucks and then you're gonna wipe it off wipey wipey wipey wipey and then we're gonna dry it off just so you all can see it wait look at that flask baby uh so i have shirts like this i might start making flasks like this too but here's what we're looking at it looks okay but do you see what i'm talking about well okay so there's two things happening here one this should be darker two like see how like the g the n and the g kind of like disappear over there as the laser was dropping more off this it was more out of focus so so not a great result but this tells me kind of what to do and through the magic of youtube i don't know if you can tell or not it's been a couple of days i probably wasn't wearing the beanie before maybe i was um i've been sick so i'm coming back in the shop so basically we had an issue with the way that the flask engraved are marked for the stainless steel so i have miraculously in the last three days i did another one two things one i did this on the d1 because i already had the settings but uh two it wasn't that i had the settings wrong on the referral actually i did have the settings wrong on the referral it wasn't that the infero was engraving too light i was using the settings for coated metal when i should have been using the settings for stainless steel anyway and i made it a little smaller i dig it i dig it i feel like it might need to move over to the left just a little bit you tell me what you think regardless very cool this is this is going to go into my arsenal of flasks you cannot have it so two things two things to take away one this is dry molly i took it off lacquer thinner i'm in a laser group where they're like oh yeah you can totally take it off or you can take dry molly off with water okay dry molly is a lubricant which means okay yes theoretically you can do it it is going to take you five times as long to take it off with water as it is with lacquer thinner use lacquer thinner work smarter not harder but what do you think this is now my new favorite flask i feel like i like this one um one thing that i that i have a bit of an issue with i don't know how well you can see it is the build that build kind of really runs together um in the logo so i think if i was gonna redo this one again i would make it bigger so you could see it or maybe take the build that build out and just use the skull part of the logo but this is the reason we prototyped guys this is the reason we test does this look totally fine when i was working on it uh now now i kind of want to change it up a little bit anyway guys easy easy way to make money with your laser but most of all thanks for sticking around till the end of the video and until next time thanks for playing and now i gotta get to work let's build that build a place where we believe it is better too what i'm just looking at yeah and christopher walker damn it see and christopher jesus what is it and christopher i'm reading it and i can't do it\n"
