Unboxing and Going Through My Racing Gear

As I'm about to embark on an exciting journey to become a race driver again, I thought it would only be right to start with unboxing and going through all of my gear. First things first, let's take a look at the race suits. Ah, here we go! How cool is that? It says "Dark Navy Blue with Silver Stripes Shimmy 150 Logo on the Front". I've got my initials embroidered on the front, as well as a country flag and blood type racing logo - it's going to be a unique look for me. I'll show you the back too. Spin that around, that is so cool! The suit has come out brilliantly.

Next up, we've got the gloves. It's like Christmas time right now! Should be 150 gloves, check that out again. The country flag and my initials are on there, along with a Shimmy 150 logo. The design is perfect - it's sparkle in here. I'm really pleased with how they fit.

Now, let's move on to the shoes. Silver shoes, you know, like full pro kind of race driver setup. Look at this! There's my logo on the side. Literally, like a Christmas present! And look, we've got another one just like it. I'm excited to wear these with my racing gear.

Next up is the helmet. I've gone big and bought a full carbon helmet. The box is just sitting here for the moment. Undo this... (insert unboxing sounds) It's a very cool, very neat, top-level approved helmet. I want to paint some sort of cool design onto it afterwards, but this is just fantastic.

We also need undergarments, of course, that you need for racing. That includes trousers, shirts, balaclava for under the helmet, and socks. Everything has got to be fireproof and fire retardant to keep me safe while I'm driving. This is really cool stuff - it's all packed up into a bag now.

I've also got a Ferrari bag... as it happens. (laughs) But, um, I've got the helmet in here, the race suit, all my other gear, shoes, and everything in one bag. That's going to be easy enough to carry on the plane later today. I don't want that to get lost as checking luggage with the driving tomorrow in the Formula E car. It's going to be an experience - absolutely crazy, potentially the most insane thing I've ever done... in a Schmidt 150 video, so I'm really looking forward to that one.

I also quickly wanted to show you the seat that I'll be sitting in. It's a Lamborghini Reventon bucket seat, made by Sparco. They make seats for all sorts of cars, including the Alfa Romeo 8C. And the seat my bag is perched on? That's actually from a Bugatti Veyron! (laughs) I've filmed with a few Reventons before now, so it's going to be fun.

right fia approved gear so helmet race suit gloves shoes all of the undergarments so we've had them customized here at sparco and i'm going to be picking all of that up today now you probably know that through this year i've been doing a little bit more race stuff so i started getting my national bee license with lotus and with msa driving in the v6 cup r i did that a couple of times had an awful lot of fun i took my 675 lt to spar at pure mclaren blasted that thing around that was just awesome i'm really starting to catch the buzz then i joined bmw motorsport at bilsterberg to drive first the m235i racing and then second the m6 gt3 car a full spec gt3 car and what an unbelievable drive that was i think if you watch the video you can pretty much tell quite how much of an experience that was and really the bug to do more of this has fully settled in so later this year i've got a quite a few sort of cool things lined up in the motorsport and racing world that i'm going to be doing so very cool for me and hopefully i can share that experience with you today though like i said it's all about getting set up and ready for the formula e event tomorrow which hasn't quite hit me what's going to be happening but we're at least here at sparco we'll be picking up the stuff that i've dropped out some teasers that we were doing for the custom things custom-made customized and i'm going to be unboxing it all inside we've driven over just quickly when i'm thinking about it in mark's m2 good fun as always pretty crazy trip this one down to italy but we're here now at sparco we're going to be heading inside having a quick look around the production facility and then it's time to unbox so this is quite exciting let's go in we're going to take a look now then around the factory and just to get started a little bit of a kind of background sparco are basically the kings of race suits race seats carbon fiber parts all sorts of accessories and things to do with motorsport i mean just take a look here and we've got this lovely display with some race suits of some fairly famous racing drivers i mean just to pick out a couple while we're standing right here ralph schumacher giancarlo fissy keller that's a that's quite cool thing to see up there and then we've also got some examples of some of their sort of seats and things and other bits and pieces that they make as well now let's head down through here kicks off on the left with the design and cad area and that is of course where a race suit like mine is all created and sort of converted from an initial sort of concept idea into something that they can actually make so i had some pretty good ideas for what i wanted to do with my suit um a double strike schmidt 150 logos all stuff you're going to see shortly that then comes over here they work out the designs plan it all out work out the materials they need all of those kind of things and send you back something that you then approve when you've approved it they get all the materials in and come to the cutting area materials get placed out marked out then cut planned and ultimately taken to the next stage so you can see actually here there are an awful lot of different materials prepared for the upcoming race suits that they'll be making now it's actually a friday afternoon in the off season so it's not that busy here at the moment sort of quietens down you can imagine it's a lot more crazy just when everybody needs their race suit before the season starts from there it then goes down to the next stage which will wander down towards over here which is where all the parts basically get attached connected stitched together and made into something that looks a little bit like a race suit you see a number being done here so many sort of bespoken unique race suits of course materials store behind loads more up there being stocked all the way over in the back as well and then here is the embroideries area so when somebody like me comes with a shimmy 150 logo my suit will have gone through here being embroidered before it was uh taken back to all be stitched together which is kind of cool so the suit you're about to see with my schmidt 50 logos will have been made right here nice now if you're in a rush they also have a fast track area which is where suits come through obviously to be done a little bit quicker and finished up when they're needed i guess if somebody needs a new suit urgently for whatever reason before they reach the final check area and just behind here the suits are prepared wrapped up and just made sure they're all perfect before they get delivered to their customers so i guess this is kind of cool behind here actually there's a massive warehouse of all of it's all sort of parts the helmets the gloves everything because they do sell a lot of stuff and there's another warehouse behind that as well with even more bits and pieces and something quite cool that i've arranged with take some photos and out there it is 30 degrees very bright sunshine and i can tell you now that wearing a full race suit in those kind of temperatures is a little bit hot so that probably wasn't the most sensible thing in the world to do but it's all back in now packed up into a bag a ferrari bag um as it happens but i've got the helmet in here the race suit all my other gear shoes the whole lot in one bag ready to carry on on the plane later today because it would be the worst thing ever if that got lost as checking luggage with the driving tomorrow in the formula e car which is an
