Holiday Tutorial #1 Neon Wreath - Mr. Kate's 12 DIYs of The Holidays

The Art of Creating a Unique Holiday Wreath: A DIY Guide by Chris Mahan Kwanza Solstice

As a lover of crafting and DIY projects, I wanted to create a twist on traditional holiday wreaths that would stand out from the crowd. To achieve this, I decided to use one of my favorite materials - burlap - as the base for my wreath. I also chose to make my own wreath out of wire, which would provide a unique structure and shape.

First Step: Creating the Wire Frame

I began by making my wreath shape out of wire. I found this really cool wire at my local craft store that's actually covered in tneo. To create the base shape for my wreath, I cut a piece to the desired size and then wrapped it with hot glue to seal the edges. This would not only provide stability but also prevent any sharp edges from poking out.

I then needed to make my wire frame stronger, so I cut another piece of wire to continue wrapping around the circumference of my wreath. By doing this, I was able to create a bigger surface area that would later be covered with burlap. To ensure that my wreath would hold its shape, I repeated this process until I had a sturdy and stable frame.

Creating the Ripple Effect

With my wire frame in place, I moved on to adding the burlap strips. Using a ripple effect technique, I cut a strip of my favorite material - burlap - and began wrapping it around the wire frame. This created a unique and textured look that added depth and interest to my wreath.

To secure the burlap in place, I used hot glue, which allowed me to shape and mold the wreath into its final form. The process was surprisingly easy, as all it took was a little patience and some simple crafting tools. Once complete, I cleaned up my wreath with a trimmer, removing any excess material that may have gotten in the way.

Decorating the Wreath

Now that my wreath was constructed, it was time to add the finishing touches. To create a unique look, I used regular pine tones and sprayed them with white primer before applying neon green spray paint. This added a pop of color and made the pine cones stand out against the natural burlap background.

To place the pine cones around my wreath, I used hot glue to secure them in position. This allowed me to create a balanced and visually appealing arrangement that showcased the unique texture of my burlap wreath. To add some extra flair, I also used a ribbon with wire on each side, which made it easy to bend and mold into the shape of my wreath.

Molding the Ribbon

One of my favorite parts of creating this wreath was working with the ribbon. The wire on either side of the ribbon allowed me to easily bend and shape it into the desired form. I was able to mold the ribbon around the shape of my burlap, creating a seamless and cohesive look that added to the overall charm of my wreath.

Finishing Touches

With all the pieces in place, I stepped back to admire my handiwork. I was thrilled with how my Mr Kate Twist on a traditional holiday wreath turned out - it looked really cool with the natural burlap and the pop of neon color. This unique and creative wreath was perfect for adding a touch of personality to any room, making it an ideal choice for those looking to break away from traditional holiday decor.
