5 Mistakes to Avoid When Making YouTube Videos

**The Art of Creating Successful YouTube Content: Avoiding Common Mistakes**

In today's digital age, creating engaging and entertaining content on YouTube can be a lucrative career path for many. However, with the sheer number of creators vying for attention, it's easy to get caught up in the hype and make mistakes that can hinder your success. In this article, we'll explore five common mistakes that new YouTubers often make, and provide valuable insights on how to avoid them.

**Don't Get Caught Up in the Hater Game**

We've all been there - someone leaves a comment on our video saying something hurtful or negative. It's easy to get defensive and want to respond, but trust us, it's not worth it. When you take the bait and engage with haters, you're giving them exactly what they want - attention. Instead of responding, block them and focus on creating positive energy around your channel. Your true supporters will appreciate your professionalism and continue to watch and engage with your content. Remember, you can't control how others behave online, but you can control how you respond.

**Concentrate Your Positive Energy on Your True Supporters**

Speaking of true supporters, it's essential to focus your attention on them rather than trying to please everyone else. When you concentrate your energy on building a loyal community of viewers who genuinely enjoy your content, you'll see much better results than trying to appease the masses. Your true supporters will appreciate your authenticity and be more likely to engage with your channel. By focusing on what matters most - creating high-quality content that resonates with your audience - you'll build a loyal following that will help drive your success.

**Money Isn't Everything**

One of the biggest misconceptions about YouTube is that it's all about making money. While advertising revenue and sponsorships can be a significant source of income, they're not the only factors to consider. When you get started on YouTube, don't focus too much on making money right away. Instead, build up your brand and create content that showcases your unique personality and style. You don't need an expensive camera or microphone to make good videos - just decent equipment that can deliver high-quality visuals and audio. The most important thing is the content itself.

**Thinking Money is Everything**

This mindset applies not only to YouTube creators but also to many aspects of life. When you focus too much on making money, you risk losing sight of what's truly important. In the case of YouTube, it means sacrificing your artistic vision for the sake of financial gain. Don't let money dictate your creative decisions - instead, focus on creating content that brings value to your audience. Remember, there are plenty of other creators out there who may not be as successful or wealthy as you, but still produce high-quality content.

**Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously**

Finally, don't take yourself too seriously when it comes to YouTube. As a creator, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that you need to present a professional image at all times. Newsflash: you're on YouTube to be yourself! If you're looking to make jokes or have fun on camera, go for it. Authenticity is key to building a loyal following, and if someone doesn't like your sense of humor or style, they're not worth engaging with in the first place.

**The Key to Success: Be Yourself**

So what sets successful YouTubers apart from those who don't make it? It's simple: being yourself. Don't try to emulate someone else's style or persona - instead, let your unique personality shine through in your content. Create videos that showcase your passions and interests, and don't be afraid to be a little goofy or silly along the way. By focusing on what makes you special, you'll build a loyal following of viewers who appreciate your authenticity and individuality.

**The Power of Community**

Creating successful YouTube content requires more than just technical skills - it also demands a strong sense of community. When you engage with your audience and create content that resonates with them, you build a loyal following of viewers who will support you every step of the way. By focusing on building relationships with your viewers, you'll see much better results than trying to solo-it out.

**Conclusion**

Creating successful YouTube content requires a combination of technical skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of what resonates with your audience. By avoiding common mistakes like taking yourself too seriously, focusing on money instead of quality content, and engaging with haters rather than responding, you'll be well on your way to building a loyal following and achieving success on the platform. Remember, YouTube is all about creating high-quality content that brings value to your audience - so focus on what matters most, and the rest will follow naturally.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enit's time for more youtube tips hello guys where are you david defranco here from defrancouniversity.com last week's video was in my eyes a huge success because so many of you enjoyed the tips that i had to share regarding getting products for completely free in exchange for an honest and transparent video review here on youtube or even maybe even facebook because facebook video is blowing up although it's not the best platform to upload to i'll talk about that in another video anyway let's concentrate on today's topic and that is all about five mistakes to avoid when making youtube videos now i typed an article about this last week on the franklyuniversity.com so i figured why not follow it up with a video because some people don't feel like reading and you know video is king nowadays right i mean video is king so that's exactly why i want you to succeed on youtube by avoiding these five mistakes that i see all the time and the first one is uploading your videos in portraits otherwise known as vertical orientation how do i say this kindly stop stop it stop stop you see this okay look oh look it's my kid doing something cute vertical video oh my god that's so much better i can see so much more information and that just works better with everyone's widescreen displays nowadays if you're recording video on your phone or tablet even do that that's all it takes stop recording vertical video vertical video kills it really does and that's all i have to say it's easily one of my biggest pet peeves in the world of video content creation just stop doing it okay so the second tip is a little more friendly i just wanted to get that one out of the way the second one is limiting yourself on video ideas do not limit yourself on video ideas i mean especially if you're just getting started on youtube think of your channel as a digital playground you can literally try any idea you want without risk you can do anything you want without losing viewers because you don't have viewers yet create a bunch of videos and see what works now for example someone like myself who loves technology i live breathe and sleep technology it's just a big big part of my life so when i got started with youtube i began uploading unboxing videos the occasional review video tour of the geek's room my video game collections bada bing bada boom it was done so then once you do that for your channel wait a few weeks go into your video manager view and then see which videos are getting the most views it really is that simple if a video about your playstation 4 collection is getting more views than a simple unboxing of your phone then that tells you maybe you should talk about video games but that doesn't mean you should completely disregard unboxings on your channel it's just important to keep in mind which videos bring in the most views now obviously views aren't everything i mean i continue to upload videos that only get two or three thousand views and then i upload videos that easily get 50 or 60 000 views and sometimes even hundreds of thousands of views that's the beauty of youtube there really is no guarantee so that's why you gotta you know just constantly keep trying with video idea one two and three and see which one works best but of course don't forget also do this for yourself don't only make videos for views make videos that you thoroughly enjoy number three giving in to the haters this is still something i struggle with on a somewhat regular basis i've been on youtube for almost 10 freaking years and i sometimes think about that one negative comment out of hundreds of positive comments because let's face it we're human beings we are naturally affected on an emotional level and sometimes mentally by people who don't like us we're all different and that's what makes this world amazing right we're all different we all have our own opinions but sometimes people may clash i mean especially in the whole world of mac versus pc iphone versus android or i should say ios vs android the whole thing is just stupid as hell i don't give a if you don't like apple or google or microsoft that doesn't matter to me but the second you get personal yeah you're gonna get blocked so do what i do if somebody personally attacks you block them don't give and said hey don't reply to them because honestly you're not going to change their mind trust me if somebody doesn't like you or they don't like your content chances are pretty damn good that a simple response from you is not going to change their mind so don't waste your energy on their negative energy it's just not worth it so with that said it's important to know this concentrate your positive energy on your true supporters because after all without your true supporters you wouldn't be where you are today number four thinking money is everything now youtube is not about making money if you're just getting started believe me i mean when i started youtube i never once thought i would be where i am today and i may not be a huge youtuber i mean especially with all these other tech reviewers getting hundreds of thousands of views on a daily basis that's not me but then again that's not that important to me because i'm large enough to have enough content out there to basically make a living off of and i love that between advertising revenue and patreon i can do what i do and call it my job and there's no reason why you can't do the same in time so when you get started on youtube don't even think about making money eventually you can make money but it's important to first build up your brand show people that you're worth their time and then go from there but what about spending it well check out a previous article that i uh published not too long ago called starting a youtube channel on a budget that is also on the francouniversity.com and that's basically kind of the opposite of what we're talking about today where thinking money is everything it's not money isn't really all that important when you're getting started on youtube whether you're looking to make it or spend it don't let money take over your life you don't need an expensive camera to make good videos you don't need an expensive microphone you don't need an expensive phone you need a decent camera a microphone with decent audio and good content because after all it comes down to the content i don't care if you have a camera that cost you four thousand dollars if people are not watching your content then you might want to reconsider the fact that maybe well maybe spending four thousand dollars isn't worth it so again focus on that content comes before anything else you can worry about money later because trust me it's not going anywhere anytime soon and finally tip number five the mistake of taking yourself too seriously don't take yourself too seriously i still like people to this day saying david you're never going to make it as a professional on youtube newsflash i don't want to be a professional i'd love doing this i love being myself i don't need anything fancy i'm using a canon t4i with this video umbrella kit and by kid i mean one light that's all i want right now i don't need a fancy studio i don't need fancy lighting or fancy video equipment i'm myself i like being goofy on camera and there's nothing wrong with that if you're looking to make a joke or two on camera then go for it be yourself this is your channel your videos you can do whatever the hell you want and if somebody doesn't like it then they're not going to stick around who cares there are plenty of other people out there that will enjoy your content over time and if you want to take yourself too seriously then that's fine you can present yourself as a professional but me personally i never have been a pro and i probably will never be a pro i mean i've learned a lot over the years but does that mean i'll ever call myself a professional probably not i'm not a big fan of that word and expert i'm not a big fan of the word expert either social media expert no no no no you're just experienced because everybody has different levels of experience so just to recap five mistakes that you want to avoid when making youtube videos number one uploading videos in portrait orientation two limiting yourself on video ideas three giving it to the haters four thinking money is everything because trust me it's not and number five taking yourself too seriously so there you go this is your youtube channel have fun do what you want find success and good luck peaceit's time for more youtube tips hello guys where are you david defranco here from defrancouniversity.com last week's video was in my eyes a huge success because so many of you
