**8 Essential Ideas to Consider Before Starting Your Interior Design Project**
Before you even start your interior design project, it's essential to have some ideas in mind that will guide your decisions and help you create a space that truly reflects your style. Unfortunately, inspiration often seems elusive, and it can be hard to pinpoint what you like and don't like. However, there is one crucial idea that should be number one on your list – knowing yourself. Take the time to get to know yourself, really really well. Look at Pinterest, magazines, and gather all the different things that you like. This will help you understand your taste and preferences, making it easier to create a space that feels authentic to you.
**9 Tips for Creating Your Dream Space**
To bring your ideas to life, start by thinking about what inspires you. What theme or style do you want to achieve? Create a concept for your space based on this idea. Use this as a guiding force for all your design decisions, ensuring that every element of the room supports and enhances the overall vision. Don't be afraid to experiment with different layouts and arrangements until you find one that works. Remember, a lot of times, we have great pieces in our homes that are just waiting to be brought out of storage or hidden corners. Shop your house before investing in new furniture or decor.
**10 Essential Steps for Bringing Your Space Together**
To tie everything together, take the time to capture the essence of each space with photographs. This will give you an outside perspective on the room and help you see areas where improvements can be made. Sometimes, it's hard to visualize what works and what doesn't until we step back and look at a photo. Take multiple pictures from different angles, and compare them to your inspiration boards. Use these photos to identify areas that need more attention or styling.
**Creating a Space that Reflects You**
The ultimate goal of any interior design project is to create a space that makes you feel happy and proud. We want our homes to be unique reflections of who we are – not cookie-cutter versions of what others think we should have. Take the time to really get to know your own style, and don't be afraid to take risks or try new things. Remember, it's all about creating a space that feels like home, where you can escape into a world of comfort and tranquility.
**Building Your Style**
If you're struggling with knowing what works for you, I'd love to do a separate video on this topic. For now, just know that finding your style is key to creating a beautiful space. Don't compare yourself to others or worry about trends – focus on developing a sense of what makes you happy and fulfilled.
**Styling Your Space**
One final tip: shop your house! Don't be afraid to move furniture around, swap out decorations, or try new combinations of pieces you already have. This will not only save you money but also make the process more exciting and enjoyable. Sometimes, the best ideas come from rearranging what we already have.
**Capturing Your Space**
Before investing in new furniture or decor, take a photo of your space as it is. This will give you an outside perspective on the room and help you identify areas that need improvement. Don't be afraid to move things around until you find a layout that feels right for you.

together and you guys can tell me what you guys think if you come around here for very long it probably will not surprise you that I'm thinking about swapping this piece right behind me with that piece over there and this is just something that I do usually randomly without too much thinking but I usually like how it turns out so I'm switch off okay so I found in here this is the natural home and this is naturally how books wear and tear in my house the bunny tried to eat this one so yeah but I love this book with a passion I have opened it and thumbed through it eighty billion times it is amazing amazing amazing so good every every single page is so incredibly inspiring and clearly haha abused in my house then bottom pastoral nikki is one of my really good friends who lives in Malmo Sweden which is right across the bridge from Copenhagen and her book is amazing amazing amazing amazing so this is what I think it's fun about cleaning stuff out and moving your furniture around as it makes you rediscover your stuff and look at even found pictures from our wedding we have become games in our hats one of those families that loves to either watch a movie or play a game on a Friday night and/or Saturday night so we usually just switch off and that's just how we are but one of the things that I swear has always brought our family closer together and really helps us get to know each other and kind of ignite that little bit of adventure and curiosity in each other I think is these boxes there are full questions and maybe you've seen them before they're on Amazon they're not very they're not cheap I think it a little bit expensive but I think that's because they come in these nice little acrylic boxes but it is worth every set I feel like these are just an investment in your family and it's just every box is different every box has different questions inside of it this is the Table Topics teen set so the question is are you a spender or a saver you guys answer that in the comments below tell me are you a spender or a saver you might be surprised I'm actually the saver in our house okay so I hope you enjoyed my crazy in my head moment of switching furniture and just trying something else I think that this is honestly one of the best things that you can do in your house so today I'm gonna share 10 tips on making your spaces your own in particular when you're using shelving or a cabinet because let's be honest sometimes we get stuck with furniture that we don't really want maybe it's a hand-me-down it's a hand me over it comes from places and you end up with a piece of furniture that doesn't feel quite like you so my tip number one is just paint it just paint it I have I have so much hate on one of my videos where I painted the brick on the fireplace and the mantel oh my gosh oh my gosh you would think it was the end of the world to paint something but guys I'm telling you it's better to live in a space that feels like you then to own a ton of stuff and feel like you're living in a space that's alien to your style so number one paint your furniture make it your own whether it's just simply painting or it's adding a knob whatever it is personalize your furniture make it you tip number two choose the things that you really love so this is a china cabinet and there's no China in it I know who would have thought look at this a whole cabinet and there's no China in it why would we even call it a china cabinet anymore see I've already started to I just called it a cabinet without the worm did you catch that this is my glass cabinet and I love this piece I bought it overseas it's one of my most prized possessions it's not necessarily worth a lot of money to the world to me when I paid $1,000 for it I almost died who pays that kind of money so first of all painting that when it was beautiful turquoise just about gave me a coronary but you know what I personalize it that's what you got to do you've got to make it your own don't let any rules that have existed in the fast hold you hostage this is yours it's about you it's the one space in the world that gets to be all about you so make it all about you make it all about what you think is cool so I have the craziest mix of stuff right I've got a fashion hair sheet sitting up there along with a rustic cutting board I mean you're living in my mind now you get to see how crazy I am so it's me to me that's the awesomeness of me and yours should feel just the same way the things that you're drawn to it's all it's all just shows it's all evidence of your character and who you are and you should listen to those little cubes don't just try to emulate somebody else's style just because that's what everybody else is doing do you number three mix your textures okay so whether I'm designing my son's room right now and he is like wanting all red and neon and all this crazy stuff I think they call it high beast just wait for that video is coming very soon but the things that he wants are kind of hard to mix textures and so you know what I'm doing for him I'm mixing concrete concrete and smooth and we're gonna make some metal in in in so I say all that because as you can see in my cabinet I next wood and horn I've mixed shiny and glossy I've the texture up here on the top all of these little little things make a huge difference when it comes to your space and it feeling approachable and texture is something that's really important so you've got to mix it up so that the things kind of play off of each other and you really see them when you look at something and then sometimes you don't see things because again they play off of each other because if you saw everything you'd be like oh I know that is what you want and that's you oh my gosh please do that because that would be awesome too so makes your textures number three number four mixer shapes okay mixer shakes so I've got round and I've got round and I've got rounds and then about a square if I couldn't even put round inside of the square so number four mixer shapes this will make it more interesting it'll make it feel like something is going on and this is one of the things that I always do when I'm staging a house or staging a client's new home or making over a room I I always try to mix in their things and mix those shapes because this is gonna make it more interesting number five don't be practical don't always try to use the space for exactly what it's supposed to be used for when you make a space so overly utilitarian it can feel a little bit utilitarian so if you really want to space it feels very interesting mix and things that are extra just make it a little extra and you don't have to spend a lot of money for it to feel extra but one of the things I did is I my garden and I clipped one of the branches off of one of my plants it's just a little extra I don't need that I don't have to have it it's not utilitarian it's not like I can't use my glassware if I don't have a plant mixed in but mixing things that don't seem seem to go together it's what makes it really interesting and it keeps it from feeling like it's just functional and maybe a little bit boring you don't want to be boring whoo let's be boring yeah let's not do that number six think through using items in a creative way so what I mean by that is I have this glass closed you guys have seen these a million times they're in one of my favorites videos I talk about them all the time and I'm always trying to rethink how things might be used so don't just look at something ago this is how they had it in the store when I bought it and this is how it will forever remain so one of the things that I did is I switched out what was inside of those glass domes because I just felt like it needed some it needed some blood up there I needed some plants needed some black and they just sort of use them in a way that maybe it's a little bit unique to me and I think that's fun number seven don't be afraid to bring things from outside by that I mean I have an outdoor planter this is from a completely different area of the house it's supposed to be out to hers and here it is in my cabinet so again we're taking items and using them in a way that they're not necessarily supposed to but the texture of something that has sat outside is very unique so don't be afraid to grab something for outdoors and use it inside number eight and gather your ideas before you even start the project that really should be number one honestly that should be number one but it's not it's number eight seriously go to Pinterest go to your magazines and pull out all the different things that you like and really try to get to know yourself really really well at that I definitely can do a separate video for and really share with you how to find your style because I've struggled with that for so long and at times I still struggle with it because I like so many different things and it's hard to put them all together but what you really need to do is for your space come up with that idea that that thought that inspiration for where you think this could go and then create a space around that so make sure you've got really good inspiration that really will guide it your choices so that you can get that look in the end number 9 shop your house don't be afraid to move furniture and things from other parts of the house nothing is set in stone unless you actually physically attached it permanently to the floor or to the wall if it's not a fixed it's fair game as far as I'm concerned because the thing is is that a lot of times you have really cool stuff stashed in a cabinet and you can bring that out and switch it out with something else and have a whole new area that feels alive and interesting and new to you and you didn't have to even spend a cent this whole project cost me $0 I didn't spend a single dime on any of this so shop your house save yourself some money see if you've got something awesome just sitting in a box somewhere maybe it's out in the garage or the Attic or may even be in your bedroom you never know be open to shopping your house and finding things that you already have number 10 take a picture I know that sounds kind of funny because not everybody is on Instagram and uploading their photos to every bit of social media that exists on the planet like myself however what a picture does is it shows you what this thing looks like so that's what I did I took so many pictures and reconfigured the whole thing based on the way it looked because what it does is it gives you an outside perspective well you're right there in the middle of it sometimes it can be hard to see what's really going bond and you're not really sure about how it's all going to come together but when you take a picture it's so much easier to see it and say well I needed more black up here I needed more glass down here and all those things really become alive to you and become more apparent to you when you have a picture and what you can do is you can take that picture and compare it to some of your inspiration and say you know what this doesn't feel like that why doesn't it feel like that oh because this one had wooden it mine has none or this one had a color explosion and mine has all black and white so this is how you can really get to know your own style and how you can really pull it together and make a space that really feels like you because in the end isn't that the best part we want your house feel as awesome as you are we wanted to feel as unique as you are and we really want it to be that space that when you come in it just makes your heart skip a beat and you're just like yes I love this hope that you enjoyed this video apparently it will pop up when you open YouTube it's not going to send you anything to your phone maybe you can set it up that way that I don't have mine that way but what it does is it makes it so that your home page shows you what a new video is live and I really like that for the channels that I subscribe to otherwise they seem to like fall with this um on YouTube I don't know so don't forget
