I recently completed several tasks on my shopping cart, and I wanted to share some of the progress with you. The first thing I worked on was upgrading the jackshaft system. The old one was quite janky and had a lot of flex, which caused the chain to slip off the gears. I've replaced it with a new one that works much better and is nice and solid.
One of the other issues I encountered was the sprocket on the axle. It was too small, and this resulted in the cart going way too fast in first gear. To address this issue, I installed a bigger sprocket, which has helped to slow the cart down and make it more reasonable to drive. I've also made some adjustments to the steering system to get it working properly again.
Unfortunately, after completing the steering system, I still had an issue with the live axle on the back of the cart. It wouldn't turn at all, despite my efforts to get it working. To resolve this problem, I created a spacer and installed a nut on the other side of the hub. This allowed me to take the keyway out and unbolt the hub, which then spun freely inside or around the axle. As a result, the tire is now pretty much not powered at all.
While I'm happy with the progress I've made so far, there's still some work to be done on the cart. One of the areas that needs attention is the shifting mechanism. At present, I can only click it into gear and then go from there. I need to figure out how to attach a rod or something to the front of the cart and run it to the steering wheel, in order to get the clutch mounted properly.
In the meantime, I've been enjoying driving the cart around, even if it's not as cool as some other vehicles on the road. It runs and drives pretty well, especially now that I've got the new jackshaft system installed. I've also popped a few wheelies without any issues, which is always a fun experience.
One of the things that I do need to address soon is the brakes on the cart. With the current setup, it's not safe to drive too fast, as there's no way to slow down quickly. I'm planning to get some brakes installed before I can drive it any faster.
While I'm working on the shopping cart, I've also been thinking about other projects that I want to undertake in the future. One of these projects is building a new engine for the MR2. I've recently acquired a K24 block with a CNC Preston block guard, which should be able to handle a lot of power. My goal is to make it even more powerful than the original hatch setup, and I'm excited about the prospect of tackling this project.
For now, though, I need to get some parts together before I can start building again. I already have most of the necessary components, including the block, rods, pistons, bearings, and others. The only thing missing is a head gasket, which should arrive soon. With any luck, everything will come together smoothly, and I'll be able to get the MR2 up and running again within the next couple weeks.
It's been fun sharing some of my progress with you, and I hope that it's been informative and entertaining for readers.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso yesterday I got a couple things done on the shopping cart so to start off I have a whole new jackshaft system right here the old one was pretty janky and I had a lot of flex in it so the chain was slipping off the gears this one works way better nice and solid now and I also got a new sprocket for the axle because the old one was way too small and it would go way too fast in first gear so this bigger sprocket right here helped a lot to slow it down so now it's kind of reasonable when you drive it and also another thing that kind of sucks but I had to do after I got the steering all done it still would not turn because of this live axle back here so what I ended up doing was this side right here I made a little spacer right in there it's kind of hard to see but there's a spacer right there and put a nut on the other side and then the hub that clamps to the axle with a keyway I took the key way out and then kind of unbolted the hub so that hub will spin freely inside or around the axle so this tyre is pretty much not powered at all which kind of sucks but that's the only way I could get it to turn so now when I turn this one can spin at its own rate and not have to match that one because these tires are just so wide and grippy with all the weight on the back there's just no way at all but it drives way better now and it just sucks because it's not as cool but it works and yeah not sure what we're going to do with it today probably just driving around mess around but we'll figure something out also I don't have any way of shifting this right now what I do is just click it into gear and kind of go from there so I still need to attach like a rod or something to that guy and run it to the front of the cart but I just click it into gear and go from there I'll probably just drive it around and like second or third year and we good oh Jesus oh there's a cop down the street got it it it try to say it there's a cop sitting over there he hiding okay I'm just gonna go merrily cows gonna go ride by this Cup since his pit bike is fully legal really will you just need a protection I'm a secret cover he's just sitting there I'm pretty sure it's from us yeah we've been perfect for a while now laughing it's really loud everything here is loud oh there's some scooter kids passing by hold out now scootering around these parts the skaters only skater that ate it and make the scooter kids pay for it if this guy doesn't give a flying there go this too so don't help me go ride by with his kid in it laughs yeah that cost probably go goddamn gun so from it let this guy come by the baseball they're pretty cool around here honestly see this I was just one a poem poem nothing legally probably break dammit nothing doesn't I give a flying at all the dude with the two-stroke just flew by and the cop started pulling out he's gone after him oh oh look cord it look I just flew by always running dude he just ran from that cop to stroke yeah you can hear it oh he turned his siren on that shit's funny get his kid on his lap you'd better not be running I bet he was going to do about nothing dumbass move dude running yeah fine have warrants we got the shopping cart put away for now just in case that cop decides to come back and I'm sure our neighbors have had enough of this thing definitely need some sort of muffler it is so loud but as you can see runs and drives pretty good so the new jack shaft system with the chain is working great popped a couple wheelies didn't slip at all and nothing came loose it's all still nice and tight so I'm really happy with that I definitely get some sort of brakes on this thing before I can drive it any faster not one flyby that I did when Charlie was filming I was going down the street kind of quick I don't know how fast I was going maybe 25 to 30 ish miles an hour it took me all the way till the end of that street to get it to start slowing down and it just kind of sketched to go really fast without any sort of brake so before I can ring it out then you get the brakes figured out and I need to figure out how to get the clutch mounted to the steering wheel and get a gas pedal mounted just so it's not as ghetto but as far as the steering and drivetrain it's pretty solid so I'm really liking it so far just kind of sucks having the one wheel that's not powered because when I was popping the little wheelies it was trying to pull really hard to one side since only the one side is spinning but it's fine for me right now I might hook up the other wheel later on if I ever put like PVC pipes or tubing over the tires so I can go drift it and then it will have no problem turning if they have PVC sleeves over them but I'll be for another day definitely still have more to do on this thing but it is getting there so I figured I'd share this real quick with you guys this is the block I just picked up and this is going to be going into the mr2 at some point um it's going to be awhile before I get everything but this is a k24 block with a CNC preston block guard so it is made specific to the block and that should be able to hold a lot of power I'm hoping to make quite a bit more than the hatch ever did in the mr2 going to be a pretty serious build but I still need to get a lot of parts for that but I do have the block that I'm going to use so I figured I'd show you guys that one piece off the checklist and I do have everything I need for the hatch to put it back together except for the head gasket so that is on its way but I already have already have the rods Pistons and everything else I need bearings want to try to get this thing done within the next couple weeks hopefully everything goes smooth realistically you can probably get it done in a few days just waiting on that head gasket and hopefully it's just downhill from there and get the hatch up and running again\n"
