The unlocker.com team has recently showcased a fantastic app for Android users that allows you to access articles offline when your internet connection is lost. The app is called Read It Later, and it's available in the Android Market.
To use Read It Later, you need to create an account, which can be done easily within the mobile application or through the website at readitlaterlist.com. Once logged in, you'll see a few buttons, including one for reading lists, which shows you the articles you've added to Read It Later, and your reading archive, which lists what you've already read along with links for add options and help.
Adding content to Read It Later is really simple - all you need to do is press this button and a number of things will pop up to allow you to add content. You can share via your mobile browser or use a browser-based desktop application, or even share from apps like Engadget.
Sharing from your mobile browser is easy - just go to the menu, more, and share, or long press on a link, click on share link, and you'll see the "Added to Read It Later" button at the top. As soon as you tap that, it will save the content to Read It Later.
For example, let's say we're looking at the Engadget app, and we want to add an article to Read It Later. We can do this by clicking on the share button at the bottom of the screen, which will give us a list of options to choose from. Once we've selected the article we want to save, it will be added to our reading list.
The nice thing about Read It Later is that you can switch between the web-based version of an article and the offline version. If for some reason you don't like the presentation of your article in Read It Later, you can quickly switch back to the way it was on the web.
This app is a great addition to any Android user's toolkit, especially if you're someone who likes to read articles on the go but doesn't always have access to Wi-Fi. There are two flavors of the app - free and pro - with the pro version available in the market for $2.99. The pro version adds extra options like the ability to scroll through articles using your volume button, which some users may find helpful.
Overall, Read It Later is a fantastic app that makes it easy to access articles offline when you need to.
