Apple Event 2021 recap - What you need to know in 5 minutes

The Apple Event: A Look at the Newly Announced Products

The recent Apple event was filled with exciting announcements, and Luke Pollack from Android Authority took to video to share his thoughts on the new products that were unveiled. One of the first features he wanted to talk about was AirTags, which are similar to trackers like Tile but allow users to easily locate whatever they attach an AirTag to using the Find My app.

Apple announced that AirTags would be available starting at $29 for one and $99 for a 4-pack. The company also talked about how AirTags allow users to get a precise location on the Airtag with the help of surrounding iPhones using the U1 chip. This feature is expected to make it easier for people to find their lost items.

In addition to AirTags, Apple refreshed the Apple TV 4K. The new changes feature a streaming device that runs on the A12 Bionic chip, which enables the devices to support 4k HDR at higher frame rates. Apple also talked about a new feature that allows users to color calibrate their TV using their iPhone. This feature is expected to provide more accurate color representation and improve the overall viewing experience.

One of the most exciting announcements for Pollack personally was the new design of the Apple TV 4K, which features directional buttons in addition to the touch-enabled navigation pad. However, what really caught his attention was the physical power button that lets users turn off their TV. He mentioned that it's surprising it took Apple this long to add such a basic feature, but now it's finally here.

The new 4K Apple TV starts at $179 for the 32GB model and will be available on April 30th with availability in the second half of May. Pollack noted that the design is finally modern and shows off the capability of the M1 chip given how thin the new Mac is. However, he did mention that the design does not feature a touchscreen, which has been missing from Macs for quite some time.

The display also features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, and Apple has upgraded the front-facing camera to a resolution of 1080p. There are several new design features, including a new 3-microphone array, 6-speaker setup, 4 USB C ports, 2 of them are Thunderbolt, and a new power cable.

Despite all the new features, Pollack expressed some confusion about a couple of the design choices. Firstly, he mentioned that while it appears to have gotten smaller, the bezels are still fairly large. Secondly, he was confused by why Apple didn't give consumers the option for a black bezel screen version, which would make the display look thinner.

The new iMac will be available starting at $1,099 and will be available on May 17th. Pollack mentioned that while he doesn't like the bezel color choice on the new iMac, he thinks the design looks modern, and the starting price isn't too bad.

Another major announcement was the introduction of AirTags, which are designed to help people find their lost items. The company announced that AirTags would be available starting at $29 for one and $99 for a 4-pack. The new product uses the Find My app to allow users to easily locate whatever they attach an AirTag to.

The Apple TV 4K was also refreshed, featuring a streaming device that runs on the A12 Bionic chip. This enables the devices to support 4k HDR at higher frame rates and provides a better viewing experience. Additionally, the new feature allows users to color calibrate their TV using their iPhone.

Apple introduced several other new products during the event, including a new purple iPhone. The company also made some changes to Apple Card and announced updates to Apple Podcasts. However, it's worth noting that most of these announcements were relatively minor compared to the major unveilings of AirTags and the refreshed Apple TV 4K.

Overall, the recent Apple event was filled with exciting announcements, and Luke Pollack from Android Authority took to video to share his thoughts on the new products. He expressed excitement about how well AirTags are expected to work and was pleased with the design of the new iMac despite some minor complaints about the bezel color choice.

The event also marked an opportunity for Apple to take advantage of the growing trend of working from home, introducing several features designed to make remote work more productive. One such feature is a new ultra-wide front-facing camera on the iPad, which pans and tracks the subject while on a video call. This feature is expected to improve communication during virtual meetings.

Overall, the recent Apple event was filled with exciting announcements that will likely have a significant impact on users' daily lives. Whether it's AirTags, the refreshed Apple TV 4K, or the new iMac, there's something for everyone in this lineup of newly announced products.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enOk, so the Apple event just wrapped up, andthere’s a couple of new things that I wantto talk about. I’m Luke Pollack with androidauthority, and let’s take a look at thesenew products Apple announced. The first feature I’m very excited aboutis AirTags. So earlier in 2020, Apple announcedthat they were working on this and they showed us a sneak peek, of something that could look like that. Well, now we have the first physical product with that support.Air-tags is very similar to trackers liketile, and it allows you to use Find My appto easily locate whatever you attach an AirTagto. Apple also talked about how Air-tags allowsthe user to get a precise location on theAirtag with the help of surrounding iPhonesusing the U1 chip. They will be availablestarting at $29 for one and $99 for a 4 pack. Finally finally finally, Apple refreshed theApple TV 4K. The new changes feature a streamingdevice that runs on the A12 Bionic chip. Thisenables the devices to support 4k HDR at higherframerates. Apple also talked about a newfeature that allows the user to color calibratetheir Tv using their iPhone. Honestly, this was one of the more excitingannouncements for me personally, as color-accuratedisplays are not something that is consumer-focused.So, I’m really excited and happy to seeApple trying to tackle this. Whether or notit works is a totally different story, butit’s a good step in the right direction, none the less. However, that’s not it, arguably one ofthe biggest new changes in the Apple remotedesign. Finally, we get directional buttonsin addition to the touch-enabled navigationpad, but now finally there is a physical powerbutton that lets you turn off your TV. I’mhonestly not surprised it took Apple thislong to add such a basic feature, but nowit’s finally here. The new 4K Apple TV starts at $179 for the32GB model and you can pre-order it on April30th, with availability in the second halfof May. Now the probably the biggest announcementof the day is the new M1 Powered iMac. Itcomes in 7 new colors and a new ultra-thindesign coming in at just 11.5mm thick. Itactually looks like a gigantic iPad and Ireally like the new minimal take here. Thedesign is finally a modern feeling, and reallyshows off the capability of the M1 chip givenhow thin the new Mac is. However, it shouldbe noted that the new design does not featurea touchscreen, something that has arguablybeen missing from Macs for quite some time, and it's frustrating to not see it in thisnew design, especially considering how muchit resembles an iPad.The display also features a 24inch 4.5k Retinadisplay. And finally, apple now has upgradedthe front-facing camera to a resolution of1080p. There were a bunch of new design features, including a new 3 microphone array, and 6speaker setup, 4 USB C ports, 2 of them arethunderbolt and a new power cable. However, even with all of these new features,I’m still confused about a couple of thedesign choices. Firstly, the bezels, whileit appears to have gotten smaller are stillfairly large. And secondly,  probably themost confusing new change is the color. Everycolor combination features white bezels. WhileI don’t mind the white bezels in some ofthe combinations, I really don’t understandwhy Apple didn’t give consumers the optionfor a black bezel, as that just makes thescreen look a lot thinner. I don’t totallyhate it but I would have liked to see at leastthe option for a black screen version. The new iMac will be available starting at$1299 all the way up to $1699 for the higherstorage options. You can pre-order it on April30th with availability in the latter halfof May. Also, it should be noted that only the higher-pricedoptions will get additional USB 3 ports, gigabitethernet, and a magic keyboard with TouchID. Apple closed off the event with a refreshof the iPad Pro line. The new iPads both featureAPple’s M1 chip but the larger 12.9-inchmodel now has what Apple is calling a LiquidDisplay XDR. This new display uses mini-LEDin tangent with LCD screens to provide highercontrast and color-accurate image. The newdisplay features 1000 nits of full-screenbrightness up to 1600 nits of peak brightness. This means that viewing/editing HDR contentwill be very accurate on the new display. Also, the screen uses local dimming zonesto provide an excellent contrast ratio. Appledid suggest that these new features are thesame as its Pro Display XDR, but time willtell how accurate this is. Apple also announcedofficial 5G support and thunderbolt supportfor the new iPads. Now Apple really was taking advantage of thefact that more people are working from home, and they introduced a new ultra-wide front-facingcamera for the iPad, with a new feature thatbasically pans and tracks the subject whileon a video call. This is really cool to see,but I’m unsure how accurate it will workin real-time. Overall this isn’t an incredibly big iterationfor the iPad, maybe apart from the new display, but I’m actually pretty disported it’sonly coming to the larger model. I reallydon’t like when Apple limits features totheir higher-tier versions. Still, it’scool to see and I’m excited to test it inperson. And that’s it, there were a few additionalthings in the keynote such as a new purpleiPhone, some changes to Apple Card, and Applepodcasts, but for the most part nothing major.Personally, I’m pretty excited to see howwell AirTags works, and while I don’t arewith the bezel color choice on the new iMac,I think the new design looks modern, and thestarting price really isn’t that bad either. Well, that’s going to wrap it up for thisvideo, check out our more in-depth coveragein the link below. Lastly, let us know yourthoughts, are you excited about the new products, why or why not. Just let us know down in thecomments below. I’m Luke Pollack with AndroidAuthority and I’ll catch you in the nextvideo. \n"
