Hands on with the Honor Magic V - MWC 2022

Introduction to the Honor Magic V

Hello and welcome to Android Authority! I'm Harley Morano, and today we're going hands-on with the Honor Magic V, which marks the company's first foray into the world of foldable smartphones. The Magic V is also notable as the first foldable smartphone to come equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. In this article, we'll dive deeper into the specifications and features of this innovative device.

Specifications of the Honor Magic V

Other than the impressive feature of being the first foldable smartphone to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the Magic V boasts 12 gigabytes of RAM and either 256 gigabytes or 512 gigabytes of storage. It's also set to ship with Android 12, along with Honor's Magic UI 6 installed on the back of the device. The camera system is composed of a triple-camera setup consisting of an ultra-wide-angle camera, a wide-angle camera, and a spectrum-enhanced camera. Additionally, there are front-facing cameras located near the inner display and the outer display.

Design and Display of the Honor Magic V

The design of the Magic V is quite impressive, with a premium feel that's hard to ignore. One standout feature is the eco-leather backing, which not only looks stylish but also provides a better grip compared to other devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, after spending some time with the device, our team and I agree that the hinge on the Magic V isn't as smooth as its counterpart on the Z-Fold 3. Furthermore, the crease on the Magic V seems slightly first-gen-like.

Screen Sizes of the Honor Magic V

The outer display measures 6.45 inches and boasts a refresh rate of up to 90 Hertz, while the inner display measures out at 7.5 inches with a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. It's worth noting that these screen sizes make the Magic V slightly taller and wider than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Comparatively, the Magic V is significantly larger than Oppo's foldable offering, the Find N.

Availability of the Honor Magic V

Unfortunately, due to its Chinese-market-only release, the Honor Magic V is not currently available for purchase outside of China. The phone launched back in January and has already sold out, making it a rare device that many enthusiasts can only dream of owning. However, the company did mention plans to launch the sequel to the Magic V globally, although no further details were provided regarding the final product, its release date, or pricing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Honor Magic V is an exciting and innovative foldable smartphone that marks a significant milestone for the company. While it has its flaws, such as the hinge and crease, its premium design and impressive specifications make it a device worth keeping an eye on. We'll be publishing our full hands-on review of the Magic V soon, so be sure to check back for more information.
