### Predictions for Apple’s Back to Mac Event
John Ringer shares his predictions for what we can expect at the event:
#### **1. A Preview of OS X 10.7 (Lion)**
One of the most highly anticipated announcements is likely to be a preview of OS X 10.7, code-named "Lion." This follows Apple's tradition of naming its operating systems after big cats—leopard, tiger, snow leopard, and now lion. While snow leopard was previewed about a year before its release, don’t expect Lion to be available on your desktop anytime soon. However, John predicts that the focus will be on a revamped and redesigned Dashboard, integrated with iOS. This integration could bring a new iOS-like environment to macOS, opening up new revenue streams for Apple through a potential new App Store on desktop computers. Additionally, this interface might tie into a touchscreen interface on Apple's future computers.
#### **2. Touchscreen iMacs: A New Frontier**
Apple has filed patents for touchscreen iMacs in the past, and while not all patents result in actual products, it would make sense for Apple to redefine the desktop market as they did with touchscreens in mobile devices. Companies like HP and Lenovo have attempted similar innovations but with limited success. John predicts that Apple’s entry into this space could bring something truly groundbreaking and exciting.
#### **3. A Redesigned MacBook Air**
Another major announcement expected is a new, redesigned MacBook Air. When the original MacBook Air was introduced, it was an engineering marvel—lightweight yet powerful. However, its high price limited its appeal as a netbook replacement. John predicts that Apple will introduce two models: one with an 11.3-inch display and another with a 13.6-inch display. These models are expected to start at $999 and feature fully upgradable RAM and SSDs (solid-state drives). The SSDs, which look like sticks of RAM, could be inserted into the side of the laptop, making them easy to upgrade. The new MacBook Air is also anticipated to have a thin design, similar in thickness to a standard USB port, while retaining its wedge shape. It will likely feature a black bezel and a full multi-touch glass trackpad without the traditional button. This design could bring it in line with the MacBook Pro lineup.
#### **4. Upgrades to iLife 2011**
Finally, John mentions that we might see updates to iLife 2011, including the removal of the iDVD application and the introduction of a new mystery app. While details are scarce, this could tie into the new Dashboard interface mentioned earlier.

minute updates of the event we'll be kind of tweeting out everything that's happening as it's happening and of course we will be recapping everything that gets announced and speaking of what's going to get announced let me give you my predictions for what I think we are going to see number one I think let's get some drum roll number one that is my announcer voice I think we're going to see a preview of os 10.7 that's a lot of pointing a code named lion or probably officially named lion all the Apple OS 10 software operating systems is that a word software operating systems have been named after a cat leopard tiger snow leopard and lion finally uh snow leopard was previewed about a year before it's actual released don't expect to get this on your desktops anytime soon what I do expect to be the big announcement is a revamped and redesign dashboard uh integrated with iOS so you hit the dashboard and you get sort of a new iOS looking uh environment which also opens up new avenues for Revenue uh with apple via the ability to sell apps via what I assume will be a new app store on the desktop computer that may also tie into a touchscreen interface on Apple's new computers moving forward uh we've seen Apple file patents for touchscreen iMacs in the past certainly one out of every you know 100 or 200 patents actually comes to fruition uh but it would make sense uh what Apple did for redefining the touchscreen phone market they very well made do for the desktop market so it's something to sort of look forward to it's companies like HP and like Lenovo have sort of dabbled in the touchscreen desktop or or laptop Marketplace but with relatively little success so we could see sort of something very new and cool about that uh what do you guys think are you excited about it um and I think also the big announcement we're going to see at least I'm not pointing I'm using my hands to make something round is going to be a new redesigned MacBook Air when the MacBook Air was first announced it was an engineering Marvel sinin it was light but it was too overpriced to be a netbook 200 powered be an everyday computer it sort of was in that middle ground floating in space for consumers uh what we think we're going to see are two separate models an 11.3 and a 13.6 in probably uh display panels from pricing configuration starting at $9.99 uh supposedly they are going to use something called an SSD stick sort of looks like a stick of RAM for your hard drive uh we're supposedly you're going to see fully upgradable RAM and we're going to see upgradable hard drive via this s SD stick very soon also it's hops to be about as thin as a standard USB port so quite thin assuming it'll retain its similar wedge shape that we've seen on current MacBook airs and probably bring it in line with how the rest of the MacBook Pro Line looks meaning the black bezel and a full multi-touch glass trackpad without the button uh this would probably be a very big sweet spot for Apple so it'll be a few hundred premium over a standard Netbook at the lowest end configuration you're also getting the full power what will probably be a core to Duo chip uh for a relatively low price and access to Apple's operating system and their I life Suite and speaking of iif sweet you notice that really sweet transition uh we may also see iif 2011 with the aing of I DVD and some new mystery application that really nobody knows about um maybe it'll be dashboard um so look for that coming soon and again just to refresh everybody's memory case forgot over the past few minutes we'll be doing live updates not on the John for Lakers account but on the Techno Buffalo account so if you want live minute-by-minute updates of the Apple event be sure to give us a follow at TechnoBuffalo I'll put a link down and the what have you and maybe I'll put it up here on the screen so be sure to check that out and be sure to check out TechnoBuffalo uh for all of the recap News Post event I'm John
