Here’s Why Toyotas Have This Serious Problem

**GM's Electronic Issues: A Timeless Problem**

General Motors has once again proven itself to be prone to electronic issues, this time with its ABS system and electronic stability control. The problem is that when these systems fail, they don't always trigger a warning light on the dashboard. Instead, the system simply stops working, leaving drivers unaware of the issue until it's too late.

This is not the first time GM has faced criticism for its electronic issues. Recall after recall, the company seems to be perpetually plagued by software problems that can leave vehicles inoperable. The latest example is a software-based problem with the ABS system and electronic stability control on certain Cadillacs, GMC Sierras, and Chevrolet vehicles.

The issue arises when the system fails, but there is no warning light to indicate that something is amiss. Drivers may continue to drive as usual, only to find themselves losing control of their vehicle on icy roads or during emergency braking situations. This can lead to accidents and serious injuries, making the problem a serious concern for safety.

GM has announced plans to reprogram the system, which will fix the issue without incurring any additional costs for drivers. However, this raises questions about the company's approach to electronic systems and its reliance on software fixes rather than robust hardware design. It also highlights GM's history of prioritizing profits over safety, as seen with the notorious ignition switch recall.

**Software-Driven Problems: A Growing Concern**

The problem with GM's ABS system is just one example of a broader trend in the automotive industry: software-driven problems that can leave vehicles inoperable. As electronic systems become increasingly complex, manufacturers are relying more and more on software to manage these systems. While this approach can offer numerous benefits, it also creates new challenges when something goes wrong.

When a system fails due to software issues, it can be difficult to diagnose and repair. In the case of GM's ABS system, drivers may not even realize that the system has failed until they experience a serious problem on the road. This is a worrying trend in an industry where safety should always be the top priority.

**Mazda as a Reliable Option**

For those looking for a new SUV, Mazda stands out as a reliable option among its competitors. Historically, Mazdas have been plagued by issues with their automatic transmissions and engine quality. However, it seems that these problems are slowly being addressed, thanks in part to Toyota's involvement.

Mazda has formed a partnership with Toyota to produce engines for its vehicles in Alabama. This arrangement has led to significant improvements in Mazda's engine quality, including the introduction of new cooling systems that can be used on other manufacturers' vehicles. As a result, Mazdas are becoming increasingly reliable options for buyers looking for an SUV.

**Using Non-Toyota Coolant**

For those who may not have access to Toyota-cooler or prefer alternative brands, there is still hope. Scotty explains that as long as the coolant meets the Haute technology standard (also known as Hoot acid technology), it can be used on Toyotas and other GM vehicles. This means that drivers no longer need to be restricted to using only Toyota-approved coolants.

Xerox and other manufacturers offer pink coolants that meet this standard, which can be purchased at auto parts stores without the hefty dealer markup. As long as the coolant is Hoot acid technology compatible, it can be used on GM vehicles with confidence. This news may come as a relief to drivers who were previously limited in their options for aftermarket coolants.

**Conclusion**

General Motors' electronic issues highlight the ongoing challenges of designing and manufacturing complex software-driven systems. While progress has been made in addressing these problems, more work needs to be done to ensure that vehicles are safe and reliable on the road. Mazda stands out as a reliable option among its competitors, while drivers can take comfort knowing that there are alternatives available for aftermarket coolants.

As always, staying informed about vehicle maintenance and repair is crucial for ensuring safety on the road. By taking proactive steps to address potential issues before they become major problems, drivers can minimize their risk of encountering electronic system failures like GM's ABS issue.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrun up your engine okay today I'm gonna show you how to find and fix coolant leaks in the case of this Toyota Matrix it's dripping cooling so how do you figure it out well really pressure testing is the best now this particularly wrote to see pressure test is cool because it's got an inflatable bladder so it fits many different vehicles get out to worry about vials stupid adapters that you need to or a lot of other ones so we open the hood then go to the radiator cap stick this inside just fits in the hall and the side clamp on you get it saw the ridge down here is under this Ridge so it doesn't pop off then you tighten this valve in when you tighten the valve it's best to use a little pair of pliers you tighten the valve Danya pop it up and here you see it's going to the bladder that says bladder that means the bladders full then you push the button to switch it and pop the system up it's not pressurizing the system in this case you're doing a 15 psi then also you a delete come from now looking all around I don't see any leaks on the top so let's Jack it up then we call had leaks from the bottom mean what are we see under here unfortunately there's nothing dripping under here either customer sighs it's dripping on him but not dripping now now in a case off your price you're toss it you don't see any drips but it's leaking off and that's the water pump and it'll only leak when it's running so let's start it up sometimes it takes the extra pressure of the engine spinning the engine getting high to make the lake show so let's run it a while and see we can find a leak now realize it's not always simple finding a leak sometimes only occur when the engine is running so now it's off to get a water pump no since the water pumps run by the fan belt we got to take the fan belt off first in this case there's a tension it's a right teen wall made or not we get a socket and an extension and put it on and then push push it down the belt gets loosened you can oh no well in this case the alternators in the wait oh so we're gonna on-ball all the alternator electronics move my little boy and we're gonna put a piece of gorilla duct tape over the positive terminal here from the alternator so won't touch metal and short anything out then we can unbolt the alternator there's a 14 millimeter bolt on the bottom okay yeah kidding it's on it I get my fourteen millimeter giant socket long extension bar again put that on then we should be able to break it loose there we go now I can use the regular right they're often very hard to break loose and out it comes then we'll move the top bolt top one I believe is a 12 millimeter man we can use our finger now no way that one's wrong man's gonna fall on success and it sinks John I stuck in saw wall pry it at a pry bar and then wiggle oh oh sorry spawn getting aa tiny weight out of the way now we can access all the nuts and bolts are all the water pump in makes a lot easier job but now to reach the other ones we gotta take the wheel off off we go the shell you push it out of the way and finally all the wiggling and struggling there's your broken pump knock ours we compare the two they got the same bolt holes and we got a new gasket the kit comes with a gasket as a temp never try to reuse these old gaskets you don't want to do all this work I'm gonna have that leak now the trick here is as you can see the rubber gasket goes into the hole here it fits in here but it'll keep falling out so you need a little glue I like this 3m black you get a little bit of it you put it on the inside of the ring you put a little bit on the inside of the ring in certain spots so it'll stay in place we don't want it falling out put it on the inside then you push it in the hole as you can see here I pushed it in with the glue facing in and now comes the hard part patience you want to wait half an hour for the glue to dry because the last thing you want is when you slide this in to have the gasket go sideways then it's gonna leak wait about half an hour for this weatherstripping to dry so the rubber seal stays in place and now the glue is dried so we're gonna slip the water pump in and then we tighten all the bolts up that hold it and boys don't miss something hard to see so what you can do is look at the old one and make sure you put all the holes make sure you put them all in of course don't forget to go on to the bottom and get the bolts on the bottom too don't slip the alternator back on not much room but rulebook it's about you with gravity CZ with gravity then we tighten the 14 millimeter bolts on the bottom of the alternator and the 12 millimeter bolts on the top then you have to put the drive belt you caught the fan belt whatever on back on I printed out a picture of where it went ahead of time now if you don't have that get your camera take a picture of it before you take it apart you'll know exactly where it goes there's only one belt don't you pull on the tiger slip the belt on there she goes the belt on all we have to do is plug the alternator back in well just bolt that back on and snap the charger on then fill it up well cool what you saved now you notice this coolant had a little sealer in it obviously at some point in time this thing out of leak so somebody added sealer leave the sealer in don't take it out the sealers probably sealing things that you don't want to leak again then start it up come on warm up about half an hour keep adding cool until it's to the top to get the air out so the next time your car starts leaking coolant now you know how to check for leak and how to fix it even it's something that's hard to find as a water pump that only leaks when the car is running and here's some bonus questions and answers well GM is an it again very calmly four hundred sixty three thousand nine hundred and ninety five silver out of Cadillacs GMC Sierra they have a software air in there ABS system electronic stability control the you know okay the ABS ladies on the ABS system is not going to work now you realize you don't have abs now so if you're on ice you know you don't have to pump your brakes and you're gonna have to drive differently well in the case of these GM vehicles hey it's not warning that the system doesn't work the system just stops working and then if you think it's working and you just step on the brakes it doesn't stop it and in your slide all over the place now the recall doesn't start until January twenty seven twenty twenty and what they're gonna do is reprogram the system so it doesn't cost you anything but here we go again you know GM has always had weak electronics and when you start adding all this stuff on really complex electronics obviously not only gonna have a weak
