The Author's Reading Experience: A Tier Ranking of Recent Reads
As I sit down to write this article, I am surrounded by stacks of books that I've read recently. My reading experience has been quite varied, with some titles leaving me thoroughly impressed and others falling flat. In this article, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the books I've read in recent months, along with my tier ranking system.
Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey
I have to say that I was excited to dive into Secretly Yours, the sequel to um...which one is it? Unfortunately, none of my usual sources could remind me. Nonetheless, I went into this book with high hopes and was pleasantly surprised to find that it exceeded my expectations in many ways. The author's writing style is engaging, and the romance was super cute. I loved the energy and chemistry between the characters, even if their love story felt a bit clichéd at times. Despite some predictable plot twists, I found myself thoroughly invested in the world and its characters.
Energy Jam by Kate Canterbury
I stumbled upon Energy Jam while browsing Kindle Unlimited, and it completely caught my attention. The author's writing style is beautiful, with vivid descriptions that transported me to a lush and vibrant world. What drew me in was the setting – Rylan Sager's depiction of 1950s America was spot on, and I found myself fully immersed in the story. While some plot twists were somewhat predictable, the atmosphere and overall tone made up for it. Overall, I'd give this book a solid 3.5 stars, with the only reason being that I didn't quite fall in love with the romance.
The Only One Left by Rachel Sager
I'll be honest when I say that The Only One Left was a bit of a letdown. While I appreciated the atmosphere and setting created by Rylan Saver, the overall experience felt somewhat predictable to me. The twists were somewhat telegraphed, which took away from my overall enjoyment of the book. Despite this, I still enjoyed it enough to give it a solid 3 stars.
Business or Pleasure by Rachel and Solomon
I'm sad to say that Business or Pleasure fell flat for me. Unfortunately, the romance between the two main characters didn't quite connect with me, and I found myself struggling to invest in their relationship. The book was well-written, but it just didn't do it for me.
Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes
I have to admit that I struggled to remember much about Someone Else's Shoes. It's a shame, because I've heard great things about this author and her books are being bought by Publishers! Alas, my memory isn't the best when it comes to recalling book details.
The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Maria Zapata
I'm so glad I read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me before it was taken off eBook. This book has become one of my all-time favorites, and its new cover only added to its allure. The story is engaging and well-written, with a unique blend of romance, humor, and adventure. Long Linda Peg's character stole the show for me – I loved her quirky personality and the way she brought the story together.
My Funny Valentine by Courtney Walsh
Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and what better book to read than My Funny Valentine? This was a perfect choice, as it offered a lighthearted and clean romance that left me feeling uplifted. The author's writing style is effortless, making this a great read for those looking for a quick pick-me-up.
A Fourth Wing Just Four Swing
I have to admit that I'm going to move A Fourth Wing just Four Swing up in my tier rankings due to the sheer power of its impact on me. When I think about dragons, I immediately think of House of Directions and The Fourth Wing. It's like a mental connection was forged between these two books during their initial readings. While some may say that I fell off the hype train for this one, I believe it's because the author tapped into something deeper within me.
Wishing Game by...?
I'll get to Wishing Game eventually! For now, let's move on to...
Simply the Best
Simply the Best was a complete surprise for me. The plot sounded interesting at first glance, but what really drew me in was the story itself. It reminded me of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with its own unique twist. What I loved most about this book was its heart – it's truly one of the saddest love stories I've ever read.
The Last Book
For my final book, I have to say that Wishing Game is somewhat tied for last place with The House Across the Street and The Business or Pleasure authors. It didn't blow me away in terms of originality or writing style, but it was still a pleasant read.
Conclusion
As I've wrapped up this tier ranking article, I'm struck by how diverse my reading experience has been lately. While some books have left me underwhelmed, others have truly blown me away. My tier system is far from perfect, and it's likely that readers will find themselves disagreeing with my rankings. Nonetheless, I hope this article provides a glimpse into the world of reading that I inhabit – one filled with unexpected surprises and delightful discoveries.
