Welcome to the Ford Stand at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show
As we can see, the big news is indeed the Mustang, which is just behind us. It's hard to believe that we're surrounded by all sorts of European models, with the Fiesta and Focus on display, but of course, this is also coming to Europe. The Mustang looks well, but in the metal, it appears smaller than expected. Talking about Metal, it's mostly steel panels, but it's also got aluminum for the Bonnets and front fenders wheel arches. It's about the same size as an M6, but it does look smaller than your car, particularly around the rear.
Looking at the badges on the Mustang, we can see that it's a 5-liter car, so 5-liter V8 putting out 420 brake horsepower and about 390 lb-ft for torque. However, intriguingly, they're also going to put a four-cylinder engine into this, which is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, and that puts out about 305 brake horsepower about 300 lb-ft. It's unclear whether people in Europe will go for it with a 4-cylinder engine in it, but the Mustang does look pretty good.
There's some other news from the Ford stand which is particularly pertinent to the American market, and that's just over there. This is the brand new 2015 Ford F-150, as we can see in King Ranch spec, complete with a keypad on the door for getting in. It's obvious that this is going to sell an absolute bucket load of cars for Ford, and it's fairly exciting. However, the most impressive F-150 on the Ford stand is actually just over there.
The coolest F-150 on the Ford stand is this one, as you can probably tell. It competed in the Baraja 1000 race, which is arguably one of the toughest races out there. Although it's a 2014 model with a 2015 front end, underneath it's all 2015 car. They used the race as a sort of ultimate durability test, and it completed the race successfully. They thought, "Why don't we just keep on going?" So, they drove this car all the way back to Dearborn, although apparently, they did put some sort of makeshift wind screen in just to save their faces.
I think it looks really cool, and it's just cemented my desire to do the Bara 1000 one day if anyone's listening.
