Kamado Joe Konnected Joe Expert Review

The Kamado Joe Connected Joe Grill: A Game-Changing Cooking Experience

What makes this grill different is that it's fully automatic, just like a pellet grill, where you could set the temperature and monitor it from your phone. The connected Joe allows you to do just that, but it's a charcoal grill. Let's walk through the features of this Grill.

The body of the grill is ceramic, which maintains heat better than any other material on the market. It has 250 square inches of cooking space and a two-tiered divide and conquer Cooking System. This system allows you to cook various foods at different temperatures and with the addition of the heat deflectors, you can cook using direct and indirect heat. The outside of the grill is painted in the classic Kamado Joe red, and it comes with two adjustable aluminum side shelves, which to me is a must with any grill.

Below the tables are easily removable and the lift handles make it possible to put the Grill on the cart or take it on the go. The cart has heavy-duty wheels, including two up front that are locking, there's also a storage shelf on the bottom for all of your accessories. If you want to buy any add-ons, you can pick those up at barbecueguys.com.

The Connected Joe is what makes this grill different. You don't have to be a professional Pit Master to control this Grill, but once you take your food off of it everyone will think that you are a pro. To use the automatic mode, simply add coals into the grill, turn the power on, close the bottom vent, and push the AFS or automatic fire starter button. Then set your desired temperature by pushing the thermometer button, spinning the dial, and pushing that thermometer button one more time to lock it in.

The heating element on the bottom will light your coals in about 15 minutes, then the grill will regulate itself to reach your desired temperature. The control fan will make internal adjustments to regulate your heat so you never have to worry about opening and closing vents. Don't worry, you still have the full freedom to cook on your Connected Joe without power simply add your coals, light them with some fire starters adjust your vents and you can cook on it like any other Kamado Joe.

Next to the control board are three ports for temperature probes. The grill comes with one meat probe but you can purchase more. Simply insert the probe into the port then run it up and under the Grill lid and insert it into the meat, you'll be able to see when your meat is ready without opening the grill. The control board also has a convenient timer that counts both down or up.

The Connected Joe doesn't stop there; not only can you control the settings with a digital control board but you can also control and monitor all of your temperatures with the free downloadable Kamado Joe app. It connects to your grill via your home Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with the app you can adjust the grill temperature, monitor internal meat temperatures, track the full cook, and set the timer. The app even includes a collection of recipes.

I found the app's range to be pretty decent but if you do travel too far from your grill you will lose connectivity when you purchase your grill from barbecueguys.com you will need to assemble the cart and attach the shelves and handle. The part that took me the longest to figure out was how to add the legs to the cart, there's a section in the middle of each leg that slides into the frame then that gets screwed together from there.

You screw on the bottom shelf and add the wheels, the advantage of purchasing through barbecueguys.com is that you're never left in the dark; their experts are there to help you before and after you make a purchase. Once your Kamado Joe Connected Joe is fully assembled, it's 47 inches wide with the shelves extended 30 inches wide from front to back, and 48 inches high.

It weighs just around 215 pounds. The cooking surface is 18 inches in diameter, and the grill has a temperature range of 225 to 700 degrees when you're done cooking on the Connected Joe simply turn it off let it cool down and then keep it covered to protect it. To remove the ash, open the lid push any loose Ash toward the bottom, then open the bottom vent pull out the slide Ash drawer and empty it.

It comes with an ash tool in case you need to scrape out any extra Ash now your Connected Joe is ready for your next cook. Again I'm Christy vanover from Girls Can Grill, I hope this tour of the connected Joe has been helpful when you're ready to add this grill to your backyard head on over to barbecueguys.com and click add to cart, shipping is always free on orders over 49, and everything in stock usually leaves the warehouse in 24 hours.
