How to Code and Program Effectively: A Live Session on YouTube and Desktop App
Friends, as we announced in our last live session, the next live session would be on 23rd February 2019, which is a Saturday at 10:00 a.m. We'll have a 2-hour session up to noon, with roughly 2 hours of actual content, maybe 10 minutes here and there. This is something that we noticed amongst our students, especially those who come from non-CS backgrounds, even those who come from CS backgrounds. Given a real-world problem, they're not able to break it down, not able to break the problem down into smaller components, find the code, write the appropriate code for each of these components using multiple resources, using basic understanding of Python, using Google search effectively, and using publicly available resources like function references.
We thought we'd do a session where the first part would focus on how to write or program effectively, given that you already know Python. Again, by the way, the prerequisite is that you need to understand or have a basic working knowledge of Python. Whatever Python we've covered in the course is sufficient to attend this session. So, if you have completed the very first section of our whole course, which is Python for Data Science, you're good enough to understand most of what we'll discuss in this live session. Having said that, so the first part will be how to code and program effectively. We'll take a simple problem and break it down into components, logical components, and try to fill in these or find solutions for these using the internet.
The second part of the live session would be whatever we've learned in the first part to use some of these techniques to build a simple but working and functional web scraper in Python. A web scraper basically scrapes a web page, obtains the web page, and obtains all the data. Web scrapers basically pull or obtain a web page and scrape or obtain the data on a web page. This can be any form if the data is on a web page. You can use a web scraper to obtain the data, of course, there are some legal restrictions around it. We'll also discuss this. We're not going to build an internet scale or Google scale web scraper here; we'll build a very simple but functioning web scraper in Python and will use some very interesting libraries. A lot of students sometimes panic as soon as they see a new library. We want that fear to be gone, right? We want them to be flexible to learn new things by using the first part of the first part.
We'll teach you how to actually use resources on the internet to solve real-world problems and break down code into modules. Whatever tricks we learn in the first part of the first part, we'll employ them to build a simple web scraper. This is a 2-hour live session and this live session will be available on YouTube as well as a desktop app. So, it will be available directly on YouTube and also our desktop app. Since this is a general topic, which can help thousands of folks both CS students and non-CS students working professionals, everyone can watch it on YouTube.
We thought we'd make it generic enough because this is a very general topic that can help thousands of folks. Everyone who's interested in learning more about coding and programming effectively, or building web scrapers, or anything related to Python, should definitely check out this live session. We'll provide you with the link to sign up for the live session on YouTube before the live session itself. Even our registered students can watch it on YouTube, so don't worry if you haven't signed up for the live session yet.
Even though we're targeting a general audience, this is still going to be a valuable resource for those who are already familiar with Python. We'll cover some advanced topics and techniques that will help you take your coding skills to the next level. So, whether you're a beginner or an experienced programmer, there's something for everyone in this live session.
