Best Jaguar Moments - Fifth Gear

The Drive: A Journey to the Edge

As I set foot in the driver's seat of this Jaguar RS, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. The car's sleek design and sporty demeanor hinted at a thrilling experience ahead. With the windows rolled down, I took a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze rush past me as we hit the open road.

The car's 3.8-liter straight-six engine, renowned for its exceptional power and performance, roared to life beneath me. The needle on the speedometer climbed steadily as we accelerated from 0 to 60 in just 7.1 seconds - a feat that would have been considered ballistic 50 years ago. With 265 horses under the hood, I couldn't resist the urge to unleash its full potential, feeling a sense of mischief and mayhem wash over me.

As we continued on our journey, I noticed that the car's speedometer had stopped working, rendering it useless as an official timing device. But this proved to be an opportunity not to be missed, allowing us to test the car's true capabilities. With its top speed of 222 mph, the Jaguar XJ220 was once the fastest road car on the planet - a benchmark that our RS would aim to match.

As we approached the car, I couldn't help but feel a sense of rivalry with my counterpart behind the wheel of the Jaguar XKR. The question on everyone's mind was: could this new RS Prov model live up to its predecessors? With 550 horsepower and a host of upgrades, it had all the makings of a formidable competitor.

As we took to the track for a series of laps, I couldn't help but notice that the RS was struggling to keep pace with its cousin. The extra 400 kilograms of weight seemed to be taking its toll on the car's performance, and it was clear that it had some catching up to do. But as we continued to push the limits of speed and agility, I began to appreciate the car's unique character.

The RS Prov was indeed a special beast, with an extraordinary chair that electronically adjusted in 16 different ways. While this feature may seem indulgent at first glance, it added a level of comfort and refinement that was unmatched by its competitors. And yet, for all its comforts, the RS still had to prove itself on the track.

As I took to the wheel, I quickly discovered that this car wasn't just about speed - it was also about handling and agility. While the rear end initially felt a bit understeer-prone, once I got accustomed to its behavior, I found myself enjoying the experience immensely. The ride was smooth and quiet, with a level of refinement that belied the car's performance credentials.

But how did it compare to its estate car cousin? In this regard, the RS Prov proved itself to be an excellent handler, with a stiffer suspension setup that allowed it to tackle corners with ease. While it may have been slightly slower on the stopwatch, I found myself more in control of the car, which was a testament to its improved dynamics.

As we concluded our time at the track, I couldn't help but feel impressed by the Jaguar RS Prov's capabilities. With its 550 horsepower and host of upgrades, it had proven itself to be an exceptional performer - one that could hold its own against some of the world's fastest supercars. And while its price tag may have been steep, for those who appreciate a truly exceptional driving experience, this car was well worth every penny.

The Jaguar XKR, with its 265 horsepower and sleek design, had long been the benchmark by which all other sports cars were judged. But in many ways, it was also an engine that seemed to be begging to be unleashed - a potent force that demanded to be put through its paces on the track. And so, as I drove the RS Prov around the circuit, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this opportunity to experience two of Jaguar's most iconic engines in action.

The sound of both engines was like music to my ears, with their distinctive wail and growl creating a truly immersive driving experience. Whether it was the smoothness of the XKR or the raw power of the RS Prov, each engine brought its own unique character to the table - one that added an extra layer of depth and complexity to the driving experience.

As we continued on our journey, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this opportunity to drive some of Jaguar's most iconic cars. From the XKR's smooth and refined performance to the RS Prov's raw power and agility, each car had its own unique charms - ones that would leave me eager to get behind the wheel once again.
