The Art of Rotating Your Sofa Style: Creating Petal Pillows Inspired by Valentino's Lush and Feminine Fall Line

As I sit here surrounded by my design inspiration, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of enthusiasm for home decor. The constant need to stay on top of the latest trends and styles can be daunting, but one great way to shift your sofa style is by making yourself some new pillows inspired by Valentino's Lush and feminine fall line. This week, we'll embark on a DIY project that will transform your living space into a cozy retreat.

To start, find a soft yet Lush fabric for your flower. Take a piece about 6 to 8 inches by 70 inches and fold it in half. Pin along the pinned line and edges, and sew along the seams. Once you've completed this step, cut out two circles for your pillow, making sure to locate the exact center of each piece. Next, pin the end of the flower fabric to the center of one of the circles.

Now it's time to bring your pillow to life by sewing. Start at the point where you pinned the two pieces together, and once the fabric is securely attached to the center, begin creating your flower by coiling the fabric around that center point slowly stitching along the way. Make sure your stitches are above the hem on the flower fabric, hiding it under the petals as you go. Feel free to pin before sewing if it helps with your placement; this will ensure a precise and uniform shape.

As you continue working with the fabric, make small pleats to create a fuller petal. When you reach the end of the fabric, tuck it under the last petal and sew it down. Once you're pleased with the size and fullness of your flower, align the pattern on your fabric and place good sides together, pinning them so that they match up perfectly. Leave an opening for stuffing, and then turn right side out to stuff your pillow.

You can upgrade your pillow by adding piping, a technique showcased in our previous reupholstery episode. Now your petal pillow is complete, ready to add a touch of elegance to your sofa. The process may seem daunting at first, but with patience and practice, you'll be creating these beautiful pillows like a pro.

Now that we've covered the basics of creating petal pillows, it's time to move on to our next destination: Barrett's New York nest in the ultra-hip East Village. This pad is a true showstopper, with a killer view and plenty of hangout space. As we explore this stunning apartment, you'll see just how inspiration can strike at any moment.

Before we begin our tour, I want to address a common misconception about Barrett's home. He often jokes that he's not buying into the hype, but it seems clear that America has made its choice – and it's for him! We're excited to explore his apartment, which is ready for a revamp now that his roommate SLB has left for London.

As we make our way through the apartment, one of the coolest aspects of this pad becomes clear: the rooftop. With its killer view and ample space to hang out, this rooftop takes Barrett's home to a whole new level. It's the perfect spot to relax and unwind, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the city.

As we continue our tour, I want to share a quick tip for DIY painters. When working on your own projects, it's essential to be prepared for any mistakes that may occur. A small container of white paint can come in handy for covering up spots on the ceiling or molding – trust me, you'll thank me later! Thanks for joining us on this episode of Threadbangers; don't forget to leave a comment below and tune in next week when we'll explore more design inspiration and DIY projects.
