My 2JZ is toast... FD is in ONE WEEK...

**The Cylinder Wall Bore: A Delicate Matter**

When it comes to building an engine, every detail matters, and one of those details is the cylinder wall bore. In this particular instance, our team had to deal with a unique situation where we needed to bore out the cylinder walls to 87 units, whereas other blocks couldn't be used at that point due to various issues. This presented a challenge, but also an opportunity to reuse and recycle materials. As one of the team members explained, "we could go there and do a block exchange so that is a bit weird isn't it?" It's indeed unusual to find another block that can be exchanged in such a situation.

**The Benefits of Using a GV Block**

In this case, our team had decided to use a GV block, which offers several benefits. For one, without oil squirters, the engine gets more oil pressure, which is a trade-off for slightly less piston cooling. The water pressures also become better for bearing life, making it a worthwhile compromise. Our team was able to weigh these factors and make an informed decision about using the GV block.

**The Office Shrug**

When asked by one of the viewers if it's weird that they would use a block like this, one of the team members responded with a shrug, "I don't know, yep pretty much." This lighthearted response highlights the often unpredictable nature of engine building and the need to think on our feet.

**A New Assembled 2JZ Block**

The team is now in the process of assembling a new 2JZ block, which will feature a fresh new short block. The assembled Sherlock that was sourced from a supplier will be used in this build, along with a spare VVT-I block that our team had previously acquired. This means that they have a spare assembled short block ready to go in case of any issues during the assembly process.

**The New Engine**

The newly assembled 2JZ block is looking good, and it's expected to produce an even more wild ride than its predecessor. With higher compression ratios, this engine is sure to deliver impressive performance. The team has also acquired a beautiful 3.4-liter crankshaft, which will hopefully remain intact throughout the assembly process.

**A Massive Thank You**

The team would like to extend a massive thank you to chill Berto for not just doing this so last minute but also for helping document the entire process. This is especially appreciated considering that our channel has been busy with other projects and it's easy to neglect filming in such cases.

**Upcoming Videos**

Our team will be releasing more content related to building a 3.4-liter JAY-Z engine, including a video from two years ago where we went from nothing to a fully assembled engine. We're excited to share these videos with our audience and hope that you'll find them informative and entertaining.

**The Future of Engine Building**

With the new block and crankshaft in place, our team is confident that they have a good chance of completing the engine assembly by the end of the week. While there's always a risk of something going wrong, having a spare block and resources available should mitigate any issues that may arise.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, the cylinder wall bore was just one part of an exciting journey for our team. From using a GV block to assembling a new 2JZ engine, every detail matters when it comes to building an engine. We hope you enjoyed this article and will look forward to sharing more content with you in the future.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall right so this morning I am heading to mass works the machine shop that did the work on my 2j awhile back and we are dropping off my well actually I'm not gonna say what it is um Alberto did me a mega favor and yesterday I really wanted to get the truck level because I need to use it to trailer stuff this weekend and I wanted to make sure I get the truck done soon so I could get it a line to make sure everything was good with the trailer but at the same time as I told you guys we were having a major catastrophic engine issue with the S 15 and we could not wait with FD right around the corner in two weeks to get that thing torn apart so while I was doing the truck stuff Alberto's in the background pulling the motor out of the S 15 and so kindly filmed an entire video that I'm about to put the clips in of now hello guys Alberto big boost here today I'm working on the S 15 day one after testing tuned and we have run into a little issue with the s 15 let me show you guys what's going on we have the 2g and I am diagnosing that it had a really big puff of smoke coming out of the exhaust which didn't really go away so I was smoking a lot first I like knows that the turbo oil drain line was too steep of an angle and it wasn't raining properly it was coming like a 90 degree under the turbo and then off that way so I just did a 45 degree Bend here and it goes pretty much straight shot down start up the car still smoking a hollow warm it up still smoking it's like what's going on then I'm like okay let me check the cylinders I take all the spark plugs off and I notice right over here that I have a number 5 the main surround get this focused so you can see here number 5 spark plug doesn't look very happy it has a lot of buildup on it that means that number 5 cylinder is indeed burning oil here's a quick comparison so you can see what number 6 looks like all nice and dry and no buildup on it how we won this purpose to look like first thing that I did I did a compression test and I wrote down my numbers over here we have 162 thunder 1 170 or number two number three has 177 for 185 I 190 and 660 why does the cylinder that smoking has more compression well that means there's oil getting into the cylinder and is racing the compression number that means there's Prada little gunk building between the ring gap and is making a lot higher compression number on the test but that doesn't mean it's making more power so I need to diagnose if the oil is coming through the piston rings or is it coming through the valve seals I am suspecting that it might be coming from the intake valve seals so I went ahead and pulled the fuel rail off and look down the fuel injector hole and this is what I found this is number five injector hole so you can see there's some oil right there build-up right behind where the injector or rings at and then we look at number four and it's just like black feel kind of thing there so no oil buildup and six you can see the little powder right there no I'm gonna go ahead and remove the intake manifold and get a closer look in there before I called and what's gonna happen with this engine gives me another excuse to pull the fuel rail out and the injectors and use an injector machine to clean all all the injectors for competition and get this car really fresh up so let's get to work guys I already got most of the intake manifolds off now I went ahead and put this line right here to keep the nitrous fogger jets in place I don't want to like just have them looses and once for nitrous once for fuel then another cool thing here is an easy-access Mangin plant from barbara so you take it up like this just like this ring over a little bit ah yes Frieda intake manifold from the intercooler pipe all right guys last two bolts these are there are two studs in this mindful which are 30 millimeter or not I don't know whether to remember nothing set of 12 and it should change those are all the same you know how to grab two sets of wrenches to work on this an arrow is free we're pretty lucky pulling the in fig right now I think just proculus in the bottom which our shoot another cool thing we have our vacuum lines right here there's a in line so I got - for for the blow of all desperate for a few regulator and - three for the map sensor inside and this very easy to take off screw it and the out waves together another integrally - come on alright Andy do the honors yeah all right guys and then I came to the conclusion that the engine for all is gonna have to come on one is going to facilitate work that's gonna be a lot easier working on the engine also on the cars is we got to remove the head it's a lot more precise and also like visually inspect everything else for the hands of the currents that I just like try to reach over and stop getting in the way it's pretty simple very moving it versus working on the car so I'm guessing we're gonna have to take the whole transmission off we are going to be replacing the clutch there's third gear that needs to be replaced because the dot ring is worn out and for sure we need to take the head to the machine shop again it seems that the intake also on cylinder five are indeed leaking so it could be either a leaky valve seal or it could be leaking between the valve guide and the head I think it's really good practice girls are right before the first round we have to like take the whole and you know and I told her everything so that way I think helps in case something happens later on during competition are more familiar with how everything is connected and all everything goes so we can speed up the process and I do a motor no matter went on campus about we have one two weeks before competition so this is new comes out today head comes out today hopefully gets after the machine shop here this afternoon or tomorrow so we're really good on time and get this thing back together and test it again one week time any needs to be ready honey next Monday to work days hopefully one interneural machine shop let's do it guys hey guys now moving on underneath the car we are removing the transmission so these are the last two bolts holding the transmission to the bell housing which there are four in total holding the actual trying to the bell housing which is a really nice adapters plate so you can service a transmission without necessarily taking the whole thing off you know it's really hard to reach around the bell housing to get to the transmission bolts so on this case is only for - down here - up here the whole thing comes back out you can leave the clutch in then if you want to serve as a clutch just then you can have all the room ever to get around the bell housing bolts and remove that by housing and access the clutch which is when I show you right after I take this transmission out of here go ahead like this last two bolts off mr. traini it's coming off how are you disconnect and everything else there's two sensors it's a load sensor and shift-select airport or shift left shift selector rod sensor circle TPS as soon as it rotates selecting different gears and will tell the computer which gear the car is on that way allows you to the boost by gear if you want a lot or also put our gear indicator in the dashboard so you can see the cool lifestyle shift numbers I think it's hot we actually have that eye level on this car but since I don't really draw this I don't remember now we'll get our nice bellhousing and then I remove the clutch line which is running handy let's quick disconnect so pretty much got out pushing it and twist and it comes off without having to leave the clutch or anything was really nice now I got fourteen and seventeen millimeter bolts on here and then I also got I remove the two bolts holding the started and I can remove this whole thing I know check out how easy about last time I checked the coach I decided to put the torque specifications on the clutch and the flywheel just so we don't forget I have no instruction for this so another calling a seat a directly and ask for the instructions from the technical support and it's 30 foot pounds with blue thread Locker and then the flywheel normally suppose 336 pounds and then 90 degrees and angle but we're using ARP bolts so I'm just gonna have to look up the ARP bolt instructions for this when you are removing a multi-layered distance as this one which is a triple dis to use their coach alignment tool before removing the clutch so you can hold the dish and place without so you don't have to have everything falling off in pieces and getting put into the damage booth blue thread Locker since we hold it in place for sure see so now with elemental I hold everything in place and nothing hello a few moments later I got everything laid out over here underneath his desk I got all the bolts separating back is lifting we got so many by Brown fitting so you just use the bags people bolts in so make sure you don't throw those bags away I keep like a lot of them all neatly stacked like this and I use him to organize all the hardware per part now we don't get all the bolts mixed up then knock over here I have all the lines remove the only ones I have left are the oil cooler lines which are just to Dustin or lines everything else over here is removed now I gotta install the little hooks to hoist the engine up and then remove the two bolts on the motor mounts and we're good to go well this s15 went from having last time what was at 7 what horsepower 782 nothing now we just like getting and push it or something until this baby gets back in there after it gets fixed and then it's understand I got the engine pocket even in distributed online with a crank that where the engine rotates even and someone I just like to throw it on one side then so I'm lowering the engine to that engine stand racist and put a little pain on the stick and then we're here on a turbo side yes it just baked everything is oil all over the place you can tell that is the engine leaking oil undef initely not the turbo exhaust manifold is out dry runner dry runner through a runner one more dry runner very wet runner and dry runner safe number 5 full of oil moving on to the engine block side same thing drying just look hold donkey and oily number five is can't wait to see what's gonna look like him that sit on her head here we go guys it all comes down to this it's time to pull the head of the engine all right let's check down underneath of this head real quick this is the front of the head going down back look at the intake valves were quick I mean the exhaust valves in this case are the ones like getting really cooler with oil and just look on number five how shiny and nasty this thing is so the head is ready to get taken to the machine shop I put the cam chest back in it that way we can they can check for valve lash and all the other things in this house solid lifters I want them to just go through everything make sure this head is 100% ready to go and then also over here I already went ahead and clean all the head gasket residue the little Teflon coating that sticks to the block you clean it all out with a razor blade and then I will wipe it down with brake cleaner or something to clean the oil later once it's ready to install because if I clean it now we might get a rough surface I don't want that saw your sight leave it as is and it later maybe later I'll take all the Pistons out but I don't see any lines that show any signs on like broken rings or anything like that so so no one looks pretty good so fast forward to present day odd now like I said we are on our way to Mavericks and we're dropping off the head man that was fast yellow life not fast enough see how mavericks is doing us a super super solid and they know the FT is right around the corner so they're gonna bump our machine work up to the front of the line to make sure we get everything sort of on time Oh God the Battle of the Jeeps it's a big deal Rubicon are you gonna give him the cheap wave no I don't do that yeah that mean honestly but don't look at him don't make eye contact oh my god yeah ya know that's always awkward you and you got to make sure you well you got to make sure you don't launch off the light too because then you look like a jerk you have to like slowly go with them and then when they flirt at you floor it that's how to not look like a tool okay yeah yeah but you got to make sure you're in boost cuz if you're not dude booth you got an electric motor to spool the turbo is if you and your Jeep things ma'am yeah I remember back in my day nope oh dude he got the job he got the jump Wow we're making a joke it's like a fast and furious movie because like ma'am yes so anyway we're jumping up the head of the machine shop and then I don't know if I'm gonna end this video somewhere around here or if because of a day ahead we'll have it back and then start doing stuff on it but we'll see so one thing that always ends up happening with a lot of like race teams and ft and stuff is you know stuff happening last minute last minute engine work porn engines and then he's being blown up and unfortunately our very first experience after all the time we've had running the car of course two weeks not even a week and a half of 4fd we go to look at the block and what did we find Alberto we're missing our face in what way about why why you take that piss on earlier on the video we are their exhaust manifolds litter the whole tube is filled with oil and I need to find out why we drop they had the machine shop because I suspected it was leaking through the wall so we're having them checked it well the same time we came back I'm tearing up all the block to find out any other causes and I found a really big one so I took number five patients this running is yourself corroborating the compression to get a spare patient but the top may look perfectly fine but if you look at this corner and you focus it yep so some resuming answers whole study yep you can see it okay if you look at this corner you can see the sort of like deformation I kind of melted so it's definitely knocking then moving onto the side of the person you can see that same deformation went over to the side and make the piston pretty much have contact with the cylinder wall and then at the same time right there was sufficient gap and it just got the piston ring stuck so now that's what we're having all that oil just blowing through the top of the piston because we were only running one piston ring on this cylinder because this is just stuck it's like literally stock press in all the way around what's crazy is with all the oil in the solder it was still reading what like 190 compression oil in the cylinder so oil is like great hydraulic pressure compressing all the oil and letting it sit true so it make one ninety compression on one ring that's pretty good right so going over and looking at the block we still haven't taken the other Pistons out to see if there's any other signs of detonation on the other cylinders but one thing that we did find is it's gonna be kind of hard to show on video but the cylinder walls on six appear to be scored quite deep enough to where we can feel with a fingernail problem and the problem with that being is they're so deep that this block might not be usable without going overboard at this point so we are kind of at a last minute WTF are we gonna do guys posted you see that mark so definitely a with this block that way and also after that we have been cleaning so probably a slight cord injectors unless he sees during into the engine or about spray cooler cause a small leak condition on top of that oh yeah well that would make sense because remember it was like misfiring them like it was like one cylinder was down that was probably the cylinder huh and then we were also we're boosting on the track a little bit instead of running like 26 psi was going all the way to 31 so that was probably pushing it so mind you to whenever we have situations like this Aaron's like oh you guys blew up your end you know you guys did this did that if you notice most of the times we're catching things before they get back so we saw the smoke we made the call that we should probably figure out what's going on just like my SR I've never blown up my SR knock on wood everyone's like oh Adams always blowing up s ours it's just we see things that are signs of something that could be very bad happening and we want to address them before they get that so there's a very good chance that we could have taken this engine and continue to run it for the four events of FD but it if possible would be better to address it now and have a healthy engine than to try to make this last we found the issue so we fix it because we want to have a top-notch working engine and car so we're not just gonna ignore an issue and just wait for it to blow up in our faces when we could have done something about it and the problem is a lot of stuff on this engine is custom I won't not super customs like we have custom Pistons or anything but a lot of its special order stuff so if we can hopefully find everything that we need in stock hopefully Titan does a lot of a lot of crazy stroker to day stuff with all the super stuff they do and we have a really good relationship with them so fingers crossed between Titan Maz works real street and juku we can scrounge up enough parts to get some sort of Frankenstein to J block together probably reuse my head and fingers crossed get something sorted in time and retune it now - I got one challenge we should show our faces I run the entire season one engine there's something that barely no team can do like we only have four events what you mean like fix this block or get another block and run it for all season $1 teams that literally run one or two engines for event like literally only last a weekend and they have to replace the engine or rebuild or it blows up sorry we can like make this thing a lot at least to advance us well above average on the former drift team that's pretty good I mean technically speaking it's lasted what like ten practice sessions now at this point and on the street yeah so it's kind of funny because I kept on making jokes about pulling the SR out of minus 13 and dumping it in here yo dude we kept on my RV in it we get a different bellhousing adapter you know that makes a solid six from the wheel I'll make it work I'll get down with that I do these this one I mean if a if it comes down to it like I won't put an LS and it would I'll happily put my XR in it we'll just slap the vvl head on there I bet mass works has a seven hundred power SR on the shelf one of those cool math scores and Bill up to JC blocks I'm stopping on here I would be so calm about to run an SR and that's 15 you have no idea if if these guys would let me I would be all about it like a 700 horsepower vvl SR maybe like a 3582 and nitrous download could be sick where I need three more foggers just like all the nights were seen to that don't be so sick like in retrospect like if I was a little bit more confident in my driving ability I would absolutely do that just to be rad not that no one's ever run the nests are n ft cuz people have done that but just like that would be is what it would be we don't only have time to mess around so literally already Pat's helping clean off past 15 some do it already I'm cleaning off all the old parts and Albert is pulling off the block and we might have a solution later today so I'm not I'm gonna keep the suspense go and it feeling no it's for sure happening but it seems like we had a little bit of luck on our side so fingers crossed here we have the 3.4 liter as I was saying here we have the 3.4 liter short block I already took number five cylinder out another issue that I found is that we have some pitting right here they said that thick line you can actually stick your nail in it so even if I put it back like it is it's not really recommended to run the block like this so we're pretty much gonna have to rebuild the whole thing there's only one major issue with that is that we're only about a week away from FD and we don't have time to just do a full rebuild this is not just your average today see this is a 3.4 liter custom-built 2jc race engine so that means there's billet caps involved on needs to be machined to accept to the new block also needs to be line board needs to be decked and is to have all the oil galley plugs removed cleaned also that block needs to be clearance for the stroker crankshaft and needs to be overboard to curler to us of the correct pistons the rest of this video is gonna be pretty much disassembling the rest of the short block I know they didn't cover a whole lot of the stuff because I was in a rush to get the head off undiagnosed to take it to the machine shop today but now it's just taking a block apart I gotta find my room in this table I'm out of a room I have everything you scatter he's gonna have to organize things a little bit better before I can continue so it turns out it wasn't just one cylinder that had detonation Alberto found that every single cylinder in a same exact area the piston had detonation and it pinches the ring in that same area right there this one stark same thing on this one it moves around the whole place but right there in the valve earlier you start again okay every single piston now what's the reason why it happens in that spot is a high heat in that area or something right there on everywhere else you see how all that crown right here and then right here just think so that part of us gets so much heat you say it pushes down and cylinders far is where I did it the most and it just caused that issue so good thing this piston shows a sign cause it could have been bad if you controlling it like that so we can salvage those rods but all those Pistons or Pistons coming to the LZ MFG store very soon if you want one of my stroker Pistons to make a candle out of well yeah well I gotta pay for the new Pistons guy where the fact that we're so crazy with timelines I'm always super impatient and trying to do projects really fast has come to our advantage because both in pulling the engine superfast and getting everything ready to try to get the car back on the road because of all the crazy stuff on Constituent view last minute we have a lot of really good connections with a lot of the shops all around Orlando and kind of know who has what and everything and we just so lucked out that in this moment of crisis tighten the shop where we work a lot with them does all crazy super stuff happen to get in today an assembled 3.4 liter short block almost identical spec to the one that was in my car that is now bad - higher compression pistons which is actually a good thing because we want to run higher compression so literally what is it six hours later we have a brand new fresh out of the machine assembled sort of block same bill and main caps do you remember what brand the crank was over - this one's easier so it's not it's not a Brian coward kit unfortunately but I know all the stuff that they use in their engines are like top down stuff so like it doesn't this doesn't happen we're very very lucky right now so what do you think by the end of the week we'll get her back on the road tomorrow back in the rhythm ro we're gonna drift in tomorrow FD so it's kind of funny cuz I was talking with Titan kind of half jokingly about having a spare short block on an for me guess the year this season and yep here we are I'm so excited so another thing with this block - it's actually really good the block that we had was an 87 Milbourne there's a little bit overboard where this one is just half over so this is 86 and a half so in the event that we do have any scoring on the cylinder walls we can still bore this out to 87 whereas other block is junk at this point so it's kind of nice to be able to you know use a block twice and fewer no more issues how's it look over now that's good and you've seen if there's anything that's different from this one and one night you have these are they the supporters and soldier to be at the doesn't wait what what can you guys start looking at the camera like the office please well you can't blow at the same time that'd be dumb wouldn't it feel like they wouldn't do that I mean they have another one right it's just other ones nine and a half to one right we could go there and we could do a block exchange so that is a bit weird isn't it can you imagine if they did that by accident how much that would suck so this just was a block that they were getting in this wasn't like a customer groceries sad no high compression for us the runs one Thanks so we just got off the phone Titan and the reason why they use a GV block sometimes I guess without the oil squirters it helps give more oil pressure so it's kind of a trade off a little bit less piston cooling the water pressures better for bearing life and stuff because we were in the 85 it won't really make that big of a difference because it keeps the piston that much cooler I still feel a little bit weird about it but they don't you just weigh more than I do especially way more than Alberto does like way more than Alberto does you're supposed to just look at the camera you're not supposed to say anything yeah we know the office thing they do yeah but anyway so I guess we're good they need to stop straight piping these dang new BMWs because they tighten Motorsports your one-stop shop for all your 2jz needs dude we're so mind you on top of now this assembled Sherlock that we got from them we also got a spare vvt-i block way back there so we can reuse my old stuff and have a spare assembled short block ready to go so if we run into any issues again no downtime no wait we'll just have one ready to go how's it look big boost sick well I guess this is the last of the block fully got it down all ready to go we have a fresh new assembled 2jc 3.4 liter stroker ready to be assembled will you look at that it's even got higher compression now so this one has 1001 compression verses it although one was 9 5 1 so it means this thing is gonna get even more wild on the nice engine that's gonna be a problem it's a good explanation I don't know yep pretty much and also we got a nice beautiful 3.4 liter crank right behind Adam hopefully he does not knock it down now I'm good it's arrived for nine so I think we're gonna wrap this one up right about here I owe a massive massive thank you chill Berto for not just doing this so last minute what helping document it because this is one of those things worth so much has been going on with hefty right around the corner that it would be very very easy to neglect filming so I'm very appreciative of that I hope you guys enjoyed what he did end up filming I tried like be brief about a can I explain I didn't do everything but I did it pretty much what it was volume from my channel like I always do like shrug like explain all same time I'm trying to get this on a timely matter so like I told you both things balance half and half and yeah we're here now like next day we already got another vlog on everything like just doing the last prep work on it make sure all the surfaces are clean there's no paint and any surface that needs to Gassman and stuff and I've been putting all the accessories that were on there our block into this one and if everything goes right we should have a full engine by tomorrow so another thing too if you guys want a more detailed video on building a 3/4 to jay-z we just so happen to have made some well like two years ago so literally from nothing just bear block built to the entire engine we pretty much have the whole video so anyway fingers crossed things are definitely looking a lot better and now there's there's still a chance that something may go wrong but the good thing is because we got this short buck and we got it so fast we have time so if anything goes wrong I'm sure they will should be able to address it in a timely manner there's lots of parts and resources around so hoping to get this thing around by the end of the week hope you guys are excited smash that thumbs up video the thumbs up button I'll see you tomorrowall right so this morning I am heading to mass works the machine shop that did the work on my 2j awhile back and we are dropping off my well actually I'm not gonna say what it is um Alberto did me a mega favor and yesterday I plant from barbara so you take it up like this just like this ring over a little bit ah yes Frieda intake manifold from the intercooler pipe all right guys last two bolts these are there are two studs in this mindful which are 30 millimeter or not I don't know whether to remember nothing set of 12 and it should change those are all the same you know how to grab two sets of wrenches to work on this an arrow is free we're pretty lucky pulling the in fig right now I think just proculus in the bottom which our shoot another cool thing we have our vacuum lines right here there's a in line so I got - for for the blow of all desperate for a few regulator and - three for the map sensor inside and this very easy to take off screw it and the out waves together another integrally - come on alright Andy do the honors yeah all right guys and then I came to the conclusion that the engine for all is gonna have to come on one is going to facilitate work that's gonna be a lot easier working on the engine also on the cars is we got to remove the head it's a lot more precise and also like visually inspect everything else for the hands of the currents that I just like try to reach over and stop getting in the way it's pretty simple very moving it versus working on the car so I'm guessing we're gonna have to take the whole transmission off we are going to be replacing the clutch there's third gear that needs to be replaced because the dot ring is worn out and for sure we need to take the head to the machine shop again it seems that the intake also on cylinder five are indeed leaking so it could be either a leaky valve seal or it could be leaking between the valve guide and the head I think it's really good practice girls are right before the first round we have to like take the whole and you know and I told her everything so that way I think helps in case something happens later on during competition are more familiar with how everything is connected and all everything goes so we can speed up the process and I do a motor no matter went on campus about we have one two weeks before competition so this is new comes out today head comes out today hopefully gets after the machine shop here this afternoon or tomorrow so we're really good on time and get this thing back together and test it again one week time any needs to be ready honey next Monday to work days hopefully one interneural machine shop let's do it guys hey guys now moving on underneath the car we are removing the transmission so these are the last two bolts holding the transmission to the bell housing which there are four in total holding the actual trying to the bell housing which is a really nice adapters plate so you can service a transmission without necessarily taking the whole thing off you know it's really hard to reach around the bell housing to get to the transmission bolts so on this case is only for - down here - up here the whole thing comes back out you can leave the clutch in then if you want to serve as a clutch just then you can have all the room ever to get around the bell housing bolts and remove that by housing and access the clutch which is when I show you right after I take this transmission out of here go ahead like this last two bolts off mr. traini it's coming off how are you disconnect and everything else there's two sensors it's a load sensor and shift-select airport or shift left shift selector rod sensor circle TPS as soon as it rotates selecting different gears and will tell the computer which gear the car is on that way allows you to the boost by gear if you want a lot or also put our gear indicator in the dashboard so you can see the cool lifestyle shift numbers I think it's hot we actually have that eye level on this car but since I don't really draw this I don't remember now we'll get our nice bellhousing and then I remove the clutch line which is running handy let's quick disconnect so pretty much got out pushing it and twist and it comes off without having to leave the clutch or anything was really nice now I got fourteen and seventeen millimeter bolts on here and then I also got I remove the two bolts holding the started and I can remove this whole thing I know check out how easy about last time I checked the coach I decided to put the torque specifications on the clutch and the flywheel just so we don't forget I have no instruction for this so another calling a seat a directly and ask for the instructions from the technical support and it's 30 foot pounds with blue thread Locker and then the flywheel normally suppose 336 pounds and then 90 degrees and angle but we're using ARP bolts so I'm just gonna have to look up the ARP bolt instructions for this when you are removing a multi-layered distance as this one which is a triple dis to use their coach alignment tool before removing the clutch so you can hold the dish and place without so you don't have to have everything falling off in pieces and getting put into the damage booth blue thread Locker since we hold it in place for sure see so now with elemental I hold everything in place and nothing hello a few moments later I got everything laid out over here underneath his desk I got all the bolts separating back is lifting we got so many by Brown fitting so you just use the bags people bolts in so make sure you don't throw those bags away I keep like a lot of them all neatly stacked like this and I use him to organize all the hardware per part now we don't get all the bolts mixed up then knock over here I have all the lines remove the only ones I have left are the oil cooler lines which are just to Dustin or lines everything else over here is removed now I gotta install the little hooks to hoist the engine up and then remove the two bolts on the motor mounts and we're good to go well this s15 went from having last time what was at 7 what horsepower 782 nothing now we just like getting and push it or something until this baby gets back in there after it gets fixed and then it's understand I got the engine pocket even in distributed online with a crank that where the engine rotates even and someone I just like to throw it on one side then so I'm lowering the engine to that engine stand racist and put a little pain on the stick and then we're here on a turbo side yes it just baked everything is oil all over the place you can tell that is the engine leaking oil undef initely not the turbo exhaust manifold is out dry runner dry runner through a runner one more dry runner very wet runner and dry runner safe number 5 full of oil moving on to the engine block side same thing drying just look hold donkey and oily number five is can't wait to see what's gonna look like him that sit on her head here we go guys it all comes down to this it's time to pull the head of the engine all right let's check down underneath of this head real quick this is the front of the head going down back look at the intake valves were quick I mean the exhaust valves in this case are the ones like getting really cooler with oil and just look on number five how shiny and nasty this thing is so the head is ready to get taken to the machine shop I put the cam chest back in it that way we can they can check for valve lash and all the other things in this house solid lifters I want them to just go through everything make sure this head is 100% ready to go and then also over here I already went ahead and clean all the head gasket residue the little Teflon coating that sticks to the block you clean it all out with a razor blade and then I will wipe it down with brake cleaner or something to clean the oil later once it's ready to install because if I clean it now we might get a rough surface I don't want that saw your sight leave it as is and it later maybe later I'll take all the Pistons out but I don't see any lines that show any signs on like broken rings or anything like that so so no one looks pretty good so fast forward to present day odd now like I said we are on our way to Mavericks and we're dropping off the head man that was fast yellow life not fast enough see how mavericks is doing us a super super solid and they know the FT is right around the corner so they're gonna bump our machine work up to the front of the line to make sure we get everything sort of on time Oh God the Battle of the Jeeps it's a big deal Rubicon are you gonna give him the cheap wave no I don't do that yeah that mean honestly but don't look at him don't make eye contact oh my god yeah ya know that's always awkward you and you got to make sure you well you got to make sure you don't launch off the light too because then you look like a jerk you have to like slowly go with them and then when they flirt at you floor it that's how to not look like a tool okay yeah yeah but you got to make sure you're in boost cuz if you're not dude booth you got an electric motor to spool the turbo is if you and your Jeep things ma'am yeah I remember back in my day nope oh dude he got the job he got the jump Wow we're making a joke it's like a fast and furious movie because like ma'am yes so anyway we're jumping up the head of the machine shop and then I don't know if I'm gonna end this video somewhere around here or if because of a day ahead we'll have it back and then start doing stuff on it but we'll see so one thing that always ends up happening with a lot of like race teams and ft and stuff is you know stuff happening last minute last minute engine work porn engines and then he's being blown up and unfortunately our very first experience after all the time we've had running the car of course two weeks not even a week and a half of 4fd we go to look at the block and what did we find Alberto we're missing our face in what way about why why you take that piss on earlier on the video we are their exhaust manifolds litter the whole tube is filled with oil and I need to find out why we drop they had the machine shop because I suspected it was leaking through the wall so we're having them checked it well the same time we came back I'm tearing up all the block to find out any other causes and I found a really big one so I took number five patients this running is yourself corroborating the compression to get a spare patient but the top may look perfectly fine but if you look at this corner and you focus it yep so some resuming answers whole study yep you can see it okay if you look at this corner you can see the sort of like deformation I kind of melted so it's definitely knocking then moving onto the side of the person you can see that same deformation went over to the side and make the piston pretty much have contact with the cylinder wall and then at the same time right there was sufficient gap and it just got the piston ring stuck so now that's what we're having all that oil just blowing through the top of the piston because we were only running one piston ring on this cylinder because this is just stuck it's like literally stock press in all the way around what's crazy is with all the oil in the solder it was still reading what like 190 compression oil in the cylinder so oil is like great hydraulic pressure compressing all the oil and letting it sit true so it make one ninety compression on one ring that's pretty good right so going over and looking at the block we still haven't taken the other Pistons out to see if there's any other signs of detonation on the other cylinders but one thing that we did find is it's gonna be kind of hard to show on video but the cylinder walls on six appear to be scored quite deep enough to where we can feel with a fingernail problem and the problem with that being is they're so deep that this block might not be usable without going overboard at this point so we are kind of at a last minute WTF are we gonna do guys posted you see that mark so definitely a with this block that way and also after that we have been cleaning so probably a slight cord injectors unless he sees during into the engine or about spray cooler cause a small leak condition on top of that oh yeah well that would make sense because remember it was like misfiring them like it was like one cylinder was down that was probably the cylinder huh and then we were also we're boosting on the track a little bit instead of running like 26 psi was going all the way to 31 so that was probably pushing it so mind you to whenever we have situations like this Aaron's like oh you guys blew up your end you know you guys did this did that if you notice most of the times we're catching things before they get back so we saw the smoke we made the call that we should probably figure out what's going on just like my SR I've never blown up my SR knock on wood everyone's like oh Adams always blowing up s ours it's just we see things that are signs of something that could be very bad happening and we want to address them before they get that so there's a very good chance that we could have taken this engine and continue to run it for the four events of FD but it if possible would be better to address it now and have a healthy engine than to try to make this last we found the issue so we fix it because we want to have a top-notch working engine and car so we're not just gonna ignore an issue and just wait for it to blow up in our faces when we could have done something about it and the problem is a lot of stuff on this engine is custom I won't not super customs like we have custom Pistons or anything but a lot of its special order stuff so if we can hopefully find everything that we need in stock hopefully Titan does a lot of a lot of crazy stroker to day stuff with all the super stuff they do and we have a really good relationship with them so fingers crossed between Titan Maz works real street and juku we can scrounge up enough parts to get some sort of Frankenstein to J block together probably reuse my head and fingers crossed get something sorted in time and retune it now - I got one challenge we should show our faces I run the entire season one engine there's something that barely no team can do like we only have four events what you mean like fix this block or get another block and run it for all season $1 teams that literally run one or two engines for event like literally only last a weekend and they have to replace the engine or rebuild or it blows up sorry we can like make this thing a lot at least to advance us well above average on the former drift team that's pretty good I mean technically speaking it's lasted what like ten practice sessions now at this point and on the street yeah so it's kind of funny because I kept on making jokes about pulling the SR out of minus 13 and dumping it in here yo dude we kept on my RV in it we get a different bellhousing adapter you know that makes a solid six from the wheel I'll make it work I'll get down with that I do these this one I mean if a if it comes down to it like I won't put an LS and it would I'll happily put my XR in it we'll just slap the vvl head on there I bet mass works has a seven hundred power SR on the shelf one of those cool math scores and Bill up to JC blocks I'm stopping on here I would be so calm about to run an SR and that's 15 you have no idea if if these guys would let me I would be all about it like a 700 horsepower vvl SR maybe like a 3582 and nitrous download could be sick where I need three more foggers just like all the nights were seen to that don't be so sick like in retrospect like if I was a little bit more confident in my driving ability I would absolutely do that just to be rad not that no one's ever run the nests are n ft cuz people have done that but just like that would be is what it would be we don't only have time to mess around so literally already Pat's helping clean off past 15 some do it already I'm cleaning off all the old parts and Albert is pulling off the block and we might have a solution later today so I'm not I'm gonna keep the suspense go and it feeling no it's for sure happening but it seems like we had a little bit of luck on our side so fingers crossed here we have the 3.4 liter as I was saying here we have the 3.4 liter short block I already took number five cylinder out another issue that I found is that we have some pitting right here they said that thick line you can actually stick your nail in it so even if I put it back like it is it's not really recommended to run the block like this so we're pretty much gonna have to rebuild the whole thing there's only one major issue with that is that we're only about a week away from FD and we don't have time to just do a full rebuild this is not just your average today see this is a 3.4 liter custom-built 2jc race engine so that means there's billet caps involved on needs to be machined to accept to the new block also needs to be line board needs to be decked and is to have all the oil galley plugs removed cleaned also that block needs to be clearance for the stroker crankshaft and needs to be overboard to curler to us of the correct pistons the rest of this video is gonna be pretty much disassembling the rest of the short block I know they didn't cover a whole lot of the stuff because I was in a rush to get the head off undiagnosed to take it to the machine shop today but now it's just taking a block apart I gotta find my room in this table I'm out of a room I have everything you scatter he's gonna have to organize things a little bit better before I can continue so it turns out it wasn't just one cylinder that had detonation Alberto found that every single cylinder in a same exact area the piston had detonation and it pinches the ring in that same area right there this one stark same thing on this one it moves around the whole place but right there in the valve earlier you start again okay every single piston now what's the reason why it happens in that spot is a high heat in that area or something right there on everywhere else you see how all that crown right here and then right here just think so that part of us gets so much heat you say it pushes down and cylinders far is where I did it the most and it just caused that issue so good thing this piston shows a sign cause it could have been bad if you controlling it like that so we can salvage those rods but all those Pistons or Pistons coming to the LZ MFG store very soon if you want one of my stroker Pistons to make a candle out of well yeah well I gotta pay for the new Pistons guy where the fact that we're so crazy with timelines I'm always super impatient and trying to do projects really fast has come to our advantage because both in pulling the engine superfast and getting everything ready to try to get the car back on the road because of all the crazy stuff on Constituent view last minute we have a lot of really good connections with a lot of the shops all around Orlando and kind of know who has what and everything and we just so lucked out that in this moment of crisis tighten the shop where we work a lot with them does all crazy super stuff happen to get in today an assembled 3.4 liter short block almost identical spec to the one that was in my car that is now bad - higher compression pistons which is actually a good thing because we want to run higher compression so literally what is it six hours later we have a brand new fresh out of the machine assembled sort of block same bill and main caps do you remember what brand the crank was over - this one's easier so it's not it's not a Brian coward kit unfortunately but I know all the stuff that they use in their engines are like top down stuff so like it doesn't this doesn't happen we're very very lucky right now so what do you think by the end of the week we'll get her back on the road tomorrow back in the rhythm ro we're gonna drift in tomorrow FD so it's kind of funny cuz I was talking with Titan kind of half jokingly about having a spare short block on an for me guess the year this season and yep here we are I'm so excited so another thing with this block - it's actually really good the block that we had was an 87 Milbourne there's a little bit overboard where this one is just half over so this is 86 and a half so in the event that we do have any scoring on the cylinder walls we can still bore this out to 87 whereas other block is junk at this point so it's kind of nice to be able to you know use a block twice and fewer no more issues how's it look over now that's good and you've seen if there's anything that's different from this one and one night you have these are they the supporters and soldier to be at the doesn't wait what what can you guys start looking at the camera like the office please well you can't blow at the same time that'd be dumb wouldn't it feel like they wouldn't do that I mean they have another one right it's just other ones nine and a half to one right we could go there and we could do a block exchange so that is a bit weird isn't it can you imagine if they did that by accident how much that would suck so this just was a block that they were getting in this wasn't like a customer groceries sad no high compression for us the runs one Thanks so we just got off the phone Titan and the reason why they use a GV block sometimes I guess without the oil squirters it helps give more oil pressure so it's kind of a trade off a little bit less piston cooling the water pressures better for bearing life and stuff because we were in the 85 it won't really make that big of a difference because it keeps the piston that much cooler I still feel a little bit weird about it but they don't you just weigh more than I do especially way more than Alberto does like way more than Alberto does you're supposed to just look at the camera you're not supposed to say anything yeah we know the office thing they do yeah but anyway so I guess we're good they need to stop straight piping these dang new BMWs because they tighten Motorsports your one-stop shop for all your 2jz needs dude we're so mind you on top of now this assembled Sherlock that we got from them we also got a spare vvt-i block way back there so we can reuse my old stuff and have a spare assembled short block ready to go so if we run into any issues again no downtime no wait we'll just have one ready to go how's it look big boost sick well I guess this is the last of the block fully got it down all ready to go we have a fresh new assembled 2jc 3.4 liter stroker ready to be assembled will you look at that it's even got higher compression now so this one has 1001 compression verses it although one was 9 5 1 so it means this thing is gonna get even more wild on the nice engine that's gonna be a problem it's a good explanation I don't know yep pretty much and also we got a nice beautiful 3.4 liter crank right behind Adam hopefully he does not knock it down now I'm good it's arrived for nine so I think we're gonna wrap this one up right about here I owe a massive massive thank you chill Berto for not just doing this so last minute what helping document it because this is one of those things worth so much has been going on with hefty right around the corner that it would be very very easy to neglect filming so I'm very appreciative of that I hope you guys enjoyed what he did end up filming I tried like be brief about a can I explain I didn't do everything but I did it pretty much what it was volume from my channel like I always do like shrug like explain all same time I'm trying to get this on a timely matter so like I told you both things balance half and half and yeah we're here now like next day we already got another vlog on everything like just doing the last prep work on it make sure all the surfaces are clean there's no paint and any surface that needs to Gassman and stuff and I've been putting all the accessories that were on there our block into this one and if everything goes right we should have a full engine by tomorrow so another thing too if you guys want a more detailed video on building a 3/4 to jay-z we just so happen to have made some well like two years ago so literally from nothing just bear block built to the entire engine we pretty much have the whole video so anyway fingers crossed things are definitely looking a lot better and now there's there's still a chance that something may go wrong but the good thing is because we got this short buck and we got it so fast we have time so if anything goes wrong I'm sure they will should be able to address it in a timely manner there's lots of parts and resources around so hoping to get this thing around by the end of the week hope you guys are excited smash that thumbs up video the thumbs up button I'll see you tomorrow\n"
