BMW i4 M50 Team Test _ Fifth Gear

The BMW i4 M50: A Performance-Packed Electric Machine Worth of the M Badge?

As we stepped inside the sleek and sporty BMW i4 M50, our eyes were immediately drawn to its impressive array of features. With its spacious interior and comfortable seating for two, this electric vehicle is sure to impress even the most discerning drivers. However, upon closer inspection, some of us couldn't help but notice that a pair of bags containing cases - including a Hoover-like vacuum cleaner and other household items - were somehow stashed away within the car's boot space.

One can only assume that these mysterious containers might have been accidentally left behind during the vehicle's development process. Despite this unusual discovery, our attention quickly turned to the i4 M50's impressive performance credentials. With its twin electric motors producing a combined 544 horsepower, this machine is sure to deliver on the excitement front - and boy, does it ever! The instant torque and razor-sharp acceleration made for a truly exhilarating experience, leaving even the most seasoned drivers grinning from ear to ear.

But how did our driving impressions stack up? As we took the i4 M50 to the handling track, one of us couldn't help but feel a bit apprehensive - it's not every day that you get behind the wheel of an electric car with such incredible power. However, as soon as we put pedal to metal, all doubts were quickly forgotten. The BMW's performance was nothing short of sensational, with its powerful electric motors propelling us forward with ease and precision.

Handling-wise, our initial impressions were somewhat tempered by the fact that this is an M car without a fully electric platform - a compromise that seems to have affected its agility and responsiveness in corners. As such, we can't quite put the i4 M50 at the top of the heap when it comes to handling prowess. Still, it's worth noting that some were taken aback by how impressive the power delivery felt, and overall, this is a car that truly does deliver on its promise of excitement and driving thrills.

The BMW's interior design was another area where we found ourselves thoroughly impressed - the cabin feels spacious and comfortable, with premium materials and clever storage solutions aplenty. Even the steering wheel, which some might find slightly chunky, did seem to have been designed with comfort in mind. However, the sheer size of the console housing the gear lever, for instance, was somewhat jarring - a feature that doesn't quite feel necessary for an electric car these days.

As we concluded our driving session and gathered to share our thoughts on this remarkable machine, one question kept coming up: what does it mean to be an M car? Is the badge more about prestige and reputation than actual performance capabilities? In the case of the BMW i4 M50, while it undoubtedly delivers a rip-roaring driving experience, it seems that BMW may have compromised in certain areas - including agility and responsiveness - in order to bring this high-performance electric machine to market.

Ultimately, our scoring system reveals a car that truly excels where it matters most: in terms of raw performance power. With a score of 8 out of 10, we can confidently say that the BMW i4 M50 is an absolute beast on the road - but perhaps not quite the most agile or responsive M car to date.

However, I'd like to offer a slightly different perspective on this remarkable machine. While it's undeniably impressive in terms of sheer power and driving thrills, its handling might be slightly compromised due to the lack of a fully electric platform. Hence, my decision to score it 7 out of 10.

So what does our evaluation say about the BMW i4 M50? Simply put - this is a remarkable machine that truly delivers on its promise of excitement and performance power. While it may not be the most agile or responsive M car to date, its sheer speed and driving thrills make for an unforgettable experience.
