iPhone 5 competitive performance and benchmark tests

**The iPhone 5 and iPad 3: A Benchmark Battle**

We've been waiting for what feels like an eternity, but finally, the results are in from our benchmark shootout between the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 3. As we all know, these two devices have been highly anticipated, and their performance would determine which one reigns supreme.

**The Initial Results: A Surprise**

We had expected the iPhone 5 to take the crown, but it seems that the iPad 3 has given a good fight. However, as we'll see in the results below, the iPhone 5 ultimately emerges victorious. The first benchmark we ran was Geekbench, which tests the CPU and GPU performance of both devices. Surprisingly, the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 were able to keep up with the iPad 3, but ultimately fell behind. However, the iPhone 5 was a different story altogether.

**Geekbench: The Real Deal**

The results from Geekbench are staggering. With a score of 757, the iPhone 5 blows the competition out of the water. This is an average score that indicates the device's performance in various tests, and it's clear that the A6 chip, Apple's first custom-designed processor, is a force to be reckoned with.

In comparison, the iPad 3 scores a 627, which is still respectable but nowhere near the iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, on the other hand, score significantly lower, indicating that they may not be as fast or efficient as their newer counterparts. This is a clear indication of Apple's continued innovation in mobile technology.

**HTML 5 Test: A Simple yet Important Benchmark**

Next up was an HTML 5 test, which checks for JavaScript speed and consistency across various browsers. With all devices running iOS 6, we expected to see similar results. However, the iPhone 5 once again surprises us with its lightning-fast performance. The iPad 3 and iPhone 4S are close behind, but still fall short of the iPhone 5's mark.

**SunSpider: A WebKit Test for JavaScript Performance**

The SunSpider test is another way to measure JavaScript performance, and it's a great benchmarking tool. Again, the iPhone 5 takes the lead, followed closely by the iPad 3 and iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4 struggles to keep up, indicating that its hardware may be less powerful than its newer counterparts.

**A Real-World Browser Test: The Imore.com Test**

In this test, we visited imore.com and timed how long it took for each device to load the page. As expected, the iPhone 5 takes the lead, with only a slight difference between itself and the iPad 3. However, the iPhone 4S lags behind, indicating that its hardware may be less efficient.

**The New York Times Test: A Game-Changer**

The final test we ran was the New York Times, which is notorious for its heavy JavaScript usage. The results are astonishing - the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 load the page almost instantly, while the iPhone 4S lags behind. However, the iPhone 4 takes an eternity to load, making it a clear loser in this test.

**Gaming: A Different Story**

Finally, we ran a game on each device to see how well they perform in real-world usage. The results are surprising - the iPad 3's quad-core graphics processor makes it a great gaming device, but the iPhone 5 takes the lead with its custom-designed A6 chip.

**The Verdict: iPhone 5 Takes the Crown**

In conclusion, the benchmark shootout between the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 3 has been a closely contested battle. However, in the end, the iPhone 5 emerges victorious, thanks to its powerful A6 chip and impressive performance across various tests. The iPad 3 puts up a good fight, but ultimately falls short of the iPhone 5's mark.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is Georgia from imore and right now we're doing the iPhone 5 44s in the new iPad in The Benchmark shootout the first test we're going to run is boot speed if your device is off how long it takes to start up if you have to reboot your device because you're having a problem how long are you going to have to wait for that reboot cycle now you might have to make a phone call urgently answering email or maybe you just want to get back to whatever game it was that was giving you problems when you decided to reboot but this is time out of your day and might might be only a few seconds all of these seconds add up so how fast the device boots is important and here the iPhone 5 clearly the fastest booting iOS device we have ever ever tested what's surprising here is how long the iPad 3 is taking I would have thought that would be much much quicker but it looks like it's going to take a while longer the iPhone 4S the iPhone 4 iPhone 4S actually beats the iPad 3 iPhone 4 and iPad 3 are and here comes the iPhone 4 beats the iPad 3 as well so if you do need to reboot iPhone 5 clear winner here geekbench is the great old lady of benchmarks it isn't great crossplatform there's just too many variables but here is literally an Apples to Apples comparison and what it does is test the GPU the CPU it runs a battery of test and it presents an average score and the higher the score the better uh the iPhone 5 is blazing through this it's done already $650 wow um less than 10 years ago that was a power Mac G4 level score that's an amazing score for a mobile device for a pocket computer iPad 3 757 interesting um not even half what uh the iPhone 5 has 627 and 386 for the 4S and the 4 so really twice as fast as last year's iPhone now the first browser test we're going to run is just an HTML 5 test and because they're all running iOS 6 Safari they should get all the same score score and there we go 358 and nine bonus points across all of them consistency SunSpider is a web kit test that check for JavaScript speed now it's not perfect because some browsers will hack their way just to run better on SunSpider but again we're using the same browser just different Hardware so we should get good results here it's going to run through a Litany of tests if you go to websites like Facebook or Twitter or the New York Times or you use a lot of web apps JavaScript performance is one of the most important things to you because it means there a Snappy and a non- Snappy app and again the iPhone 5 just kills it here um the iPad 3 was fast to iPhone 4S uh and we'll put the results in the article below so you can read them off but the score for the iPhone 5 um much faster than the other devices so now we're going to do a real word browser a real world browser test we're going to go to imore.com we're going to see how long that takes and the blue bar iPhone 5 already finished 4S already finished so not too much faster but still a little bit faster and now we're going to go to the New York Times and again we're going to watch the blue bars and there we go and the iPhone 5 iPad 3 finished iPhone 4S still struggling iPhone 4 is still struggling loading up the entire page iPhone 4S is finished and now the iPhone 4 is done so again it's time out of your day uh a game if you want to play your game you don't want to wait forever for that game to launch you might only have a few minutes to play and the faster you get to actually enjoy yourself the better so here the iPhone 5's got the logo up already it's got the second logo up already just a little bit ahead of the iPad 3 now the iPad 3 has an apple a5x chip and that's got a quad core graphics processor it's going to do really good at gaming but the iPhone 5 and the A6 chip Apple's first custom chip I mean it just it it does not fail to impress now finally we've got the the iPhone 4 coming up behind and In fairness it's moving a lot of pixels for what was underpowered Hardware at the time and there we go just as the screens go dark the iPhone 4 catches up come on little guy loading the app store if you want to get an app or a game you don't want to wait forever for the store to load it's an HTML 5 app so it's got to render a lot of stuff iPhone 5 nearly instant 4S iPad 34 trailing on behind so again iPhone 5 camera app you want to take a picture of your kid or your pet or the double rainbow or the UFO you just want to take your picture and go you want to wait for the camera app so here we got the quick camera access we're going to take a picture and the iPhone 5 takes a picture iPhone 4S also fast iPhone 4 not so much and now you really know how fast the iPhone 5 is in The Benchmark shootout versus the 44s in the new iPad and I'm
