I'm Switching to the Google Pixel Fold

The Pixel Fold: A Revolutionary Device with Limited Practicality

As I hold the Pixel Fold in my hands, I'm struck by its unique design and features. The device is slightly larger than expected, but the screen is still impressive, especially when compared to older phones that feel bulky by comparison. However, as I continue to use it, I find myself getting accustomed to its foldable nature, only to be reminded of the limitations it presents.

One of the most noticeable aspects of the Pixel Fold is its ability to display a massive inner screen when folded. The device's pixel density is impressive, and the screen is incredibly responsive, making it perfect for tasks like gaming or watching videos. However, this larger screen also means that the phone itself feels bulkier than I'm used to. Reaching across the entire screen with one hand can be tricky, and I often find myself needing two hands to operate it comfortably.

Despite these practical limitations, I must admit that there's something satisfying about having such a large, high-quality display at my fingertips. The ability to pinch and zoom on the inner screen is seamless, making it perfect for tasks like image editing or browsing the web. And when folded, the phone is surprisingly compact, making it easy to carry around.

But what really impresses me about the Pixel Fold is its build quality. The device feels premium and solid in my hands, with a subtle weight that suggests a high-quality construction. The hinge mechanism is also impressive, opening and closing smoothly without any noticeable creaks or clicks. It's clear that Google has put a lot of thought into designing this device, and the result is a product that feels both futuristic and familiar.

One area where I think the Pixel Fold excels is in its camera capabilities. The quad-camera setup is excellent, with multiple lenses offering different perspectives and capabilities. The phone's ability to capture stunning images and videos is matched only by its impressive low-light performance. And with features like optical zoom and portrait mode, it's clear that Google has pushed the boundaries of what a smartphone camera can do.

Of course, no device is perfect, and there are a few areas where the Pixel Fold falls short. The battery life, for example, could be better, especially considering the phone's size and screen resolution. And while the phone supports 5G connectivity, I couldn't test it out during my review.

Another feature that caught my attention was the ability to fold the device into a compact pocket-friendly form. This is made possible by the clever design of the hinge mechanism, which allows the phone to fold in half with surprising ease. It's a great way to carry the phone around without having to worry about it taking up too much space.

One thing that I think will surprise some users is how accustomed they'll become to using a foldable device after just a short period of time. I found myself quickly getting used to the unique interface and gestures required for this type of device, but there's still something jarring about picking up an older phone with a more traditional design.

Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed by the Pixel Fold, despite its limitations. The device offers a unique blend of form and function that sets it apart from other smartphones on the market. While it may not be perfect, it's clear that Google has put a lot of thought into designing this device, and the result is something truly special.

The Price: Worth Every Penny?

As I weigh up the pros and cons of the Pixel Fold, one question remains: is it worth every penny? The price tag on this device may seem steep at first, but when you consider the discounts that Google is offering – including a trade-in program for existing foldable owners and free accessories – the cost begins to look more reasonable.

In fact, with the discount, I think the Pixel Fold could be available for as little as $1,200. This would make it an attractive option for those looking for a high-end smartphone with cutting-edge features and design. And while it's true that this price may still be a bit steep for some users, I believe that the benefits of owning this device far outweigh any drawbacks.

The Verdict

For those interested in trying out a foldable device for themselves, the Pixel Fold is an excellent choice. Its unique design, impressive features, and solid build quality make it a compelling option for anyone looking to upgrade their smartphone experience. While there are some practical limitations to consider, I believe that these can be overcome with time and practice.

If you're still unsure whether or not the Pixel Fold is worth the investment, I recommend checking out the device in person. Many retailers will have demo units available, which will give you a chance to try out the phone firsthand. And if you're already an owner of a foldable device, be sure to take advantage of the trade-in program offered by Google – it could save you hundreds of dollars on your next purchase.

With its impressive features, solid build quality, and unique design, I have no doubt that the Pixel Fold will be a hit with smartphone enthusiasts around the world. Whether or not it's worth every penny remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this device is pushing the boundaries of what smartphones can do.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enafter four versions of the Samsung Galaxy fold a new competitor has joined the competition this is the Google pixel fold today we're going to get it set up and show you some of my favorite things it can do there we go so here we have the obsidian Google pixel fold so nice to finally be able to try this out okay they have it inside the phone oh it's such a different form factor than the Samsung fold now that is quite a difference having the wide screen instead of the tall screen this is actually a form factor that I was hoping Samsung would adopt but after they only increase the width of the screen by a few millimeters in the fourth generation of the Z fold I decided let's go ahead and try out the Google pixel I think I'm gonna really like this size and then when you open it up you have the full wide screen there which that's one of the main things I'm using the fold for is the wide screen so I always have to open it and turn it this way and there you can see the phones are very similar in size even though this looks quite a bit smaller and that's because it's not so tall I'm really going to enjoy this wider form factor so there we have the cameras on the back power button and volume buttons right down here so let's go ahead and power it on I like how this sits flat there's no rocking back and forth and that's because it has the flat camera bar there on the back so here we have our device home screen when we open that up that is a smooth hinge no sound or anything my fold board has a click so it's showing the same thing on the home screen that I have now on Samsung it defaulted to have two completely different screens so you'd organize one and then you'd have to open it up and organize the other now I really like how this is copying the information from the outside screen to the inside screen so there if I make a change I close this it goes it locks it when you close it I unlock it and there you can see it made that same change now one problem that this has had as Mark has showed on his video is that if you want to put a widget you can't put it in the middle of the screen because it can only default to one side if I try and expand this it won't allow me is that a huge problem I don't know we'll have to see but I don't think it's going to be I don't really use too many ginormous widgets I'll want maybe one side being a widget and the other side being apps and other things like that all right so here under productivity we have do more with taskbar so we can swipe up from the bottom to view the taskbar where you can launch and switch between apps or drag and drop apps to enter split screen mode so here you swipe up let's say I want to drag YouTube over on the side here it will then add YouTube now one cool trick I saw is to tap the little bar here in the middle two times and it will swap places so tap tap and then it can change the places I can also tap and drag so I can make one of these bigger and one smaller then let's see what happens if I pinch anything nope so nothing changes there now the other way to use split screen is to swipe up and go into the recent apps and here you can split the app and then you can go ahead and choose another app that you want to add there so here you can add the settings there so there are the two apps and then I can drag to swipe away so that's a cool feature now one thing that's really cool about the pixel devices is the recent apps menu if I want to go to split screen on any of these I can just drag the app here and do that I can tap the app there and I can split it to the left and then choose the other app I want on the right and then here you can open up to five windows at a time and move tabs between Windows so let's go ahead and try that out so we're going to head to Google Chrome right here so in Google Chrome you just want to tap these settings here and you would want to set new windows so now we have two chromes running at the same time let's try that again tap and add and then if we tap again we have manage windows so here we can have up to five it says so we can do new window and let's do one more manage Windows new window and there we have five different Windows running so we can manage and we can choose a different window that we want to go to and here we can move this to another window and choose the other window and go to that window so lots of things and I like how you have the full Chrome tabs up there at the Top If we long press we don't have the option to minimize that would be pretty cool so pretty good experience with chrome I still would like to see a more full Chrome on a Android device maybe one day let's talk about the cameras so first we have the rear camera you can see that is on then we have the selfie camera hey I look pretty good what's up or we go blue steel and then if I want to use another camera let's go ahead and open this up and there it jumped right to the camera and there is another camera here takes a second to remember where it is so all of those setting change so here we can zoom in and out on the modes we have Panorama Photosphere lens and then down here we have video camera portrait long exposure and night sight which I believe are all the same that are in the main camera so there we have night sight long exposure portrait video as well as the other modes so it's great to have all of the camera functions on every camera that we have on the phone and right here on the camera you do have this little tiny fold icon so if I tap that it then allows me to unfold the phone and use the high resolution camera on the back and see myself on this screen so I'm going to open the fold and there it doesn't show anything on that side but on this side here I have the full camera and so with this I can directly look and see how I look on the bigger camera here I can then quickly tap a photo I can then go in the settings and even turn on the timer right there so I can easily turn on the timer it also has a palm timer so you can start the timer for three or ten seconds From a Distance by showing your palm so now that I have my timer set I can just raise my hand and then it snaps my photo so that's a pretty cool setting here I can press that button and it sends it back here now one of the really cool thing about having the fold and a camera is I can then prop up the camera so I have a tripod wherever I go where I can then instantly take a photo that way or this way and I can use the controls down here to snap the photo so it's really nice to have that it's been really fun to do some different slow-mo shots and other things just being able to quickly Mount the camera and then do the shot so here's a look at that okay go now like other for the walls one thing you will run into is the way apps are formatted now the great thing about Android is it can automatically adjust the size of apps to fit the screen but sometimes they work a little different let me show you so here if I open an app right now it's showing full screen that looks great let's go ahead and unfold the device and see how it looks here you can see that there are bars on the side of the screen so I can double tap over on this side to make it go over there double tap over here to go Center and to go all the way over this app currently can't go full screen and there's no way to force it full screen unless you do go into a portrait mode then you can have it full screen it would be nice there are definitely some apps that I want to have formatted fully across the screen but hopefully over time there are more developers that are going to format their apps so they work better on mobile just like all of the Google apps they have now been formatted so things look great you have one side of the screen that can be used and and another side of the screen we're seeing that on the Gmail app we're seeing that here in messages where we have two screen and then here in YouTube it just looks great because they've been using a YouTube that works on all kinds of different screens it works well here so that is one thing you will need to get used to watch now let's go ahead and check it out when it's unfolded now it is a little bit hard to unfold this it's a little slippery there on the edge I think the case will help that but you pop open the keyboard there you go it's not quite as large as it was before now here we do have a few options if you don't want to use it in the full screen like this you do have the option to tap here and you can do the full keyboard and then down here you can also drag up a floating option so if you want to float the keyboard around you can adjust the size so that's pretty small and you can make it really big so I like to use the floating keyboard sometimes when I'm using multi apps it's nice that you have that there as well so that is the keyboard now a few love reading books you definitely want to check out this device watch this if we go into Google Play books and we choose a book so here you have the full book that you can read but what if you bend the screen a little bit right there then it enables this book mode which is so cool so huge shout out to Max on Twitter you know who he is but he showed this and I thought that is such a brilliant thing to be able to do is have it so it's more like a book I'm able to read this a lot easier than having the full screen I also do want them to enable it so it's always available and fully open mode but it's so cool that when you slightly bend the phone a little it turns that on and then if I want to go to the next page it's just like a book like check out that animation that is so cool so after using the pixel fold for just a little bit I'm really happy with this device so far it is completely different than the other fold you know having the totally different aspect ratio it's going to take a bit of getting used to so there you can see one is aggressively tall and the other one is aggressively wide with the pixel fold so which one am I gonna like better I don't know yet it has has taken some time to get used to the taller screen on the z-fold 4 but I do like how much information can get there but I'm really liking this wider screen I think this is such a cool size of phone even without the fold this front screen is pretty unique compared to what is available right now out on the market and then when I want to unfold it boom you get the instant wide screen there's no managing of flipping the phone and whatever here let's go ahead and play a video so there it's playing the video we open up the fold there it goes into a bigger screen and then we can go to full screen so no managing the phone and flipping it around here let's do the same experience I'm going to go into the YouTube app so here you can see it's much taller much less info we have a tiny screen here on the front and then when I open it it goes to a bigger screen and then if I want to go full screen it goes like that and then I have to rotate so there's a lot of moving around with the fold four but as you can see I think I think the screen is slightly bigger over here on the pixel fold just like a tiny tiny bit so I'm pretty happy with how I'm still getting the full screen here one thing I do want to point out about foldable phones is once you start using them you get used to it but then you'll pick up an older phone that you had maybe a bigger phone and you'll be like whoa that is a big device so here you can see it's taller than the pixel fold and here you can see it's taller and wider than the Galaxy Z fold 4. so it's kind of nice having all the screen there but then of course you don't get the benefits of that big screen I feel like the phones now are slightly too big it's really hard to operate this with one hand reaching all the way across the screen you always have to have two hands we're having a phone like the pixel fold I will be able to reach it pretty easily compared to this massive phone so that is something that you'll notice after you pick up a different phone when you've been using a foldable for a while but then you got to think about all the benefits you get from having a fold like that bigger inner screen so here with the pixel 7 Pro that's as big as the screen can get and here with the pixel fold you have a much bigger screen I can pinch and zoom in a little bit so there you have a really big tablet size screen over here and the pixel 7 Pro is slightly wider than the biggest point of this screen but here you can see it's almost one and three quarters wider so that's cool let's try one more comparison and here I do have an iPad Mini so you can see it is slightly taller this way and then it's not quite as wide as the mini but the great news is is you can fold it into your pocket so now you can see it's just about the width of the Mini on the height there and this you know a lot harder to carry in your pocket but you're almost getting a similar size of device with the pixel fold so it's really cool that you have all of that screen real estate with a more compact device now one thing that I've noticed and wanted to check out was how open the fold actually is able to get so here when we close it and then we open it up then it opens and it blocks into place now you might notice that it is slightly off if I just push it a little more I feel like it lines it up perfectly and there is no like extra bending of the device so it's not enough where it would annoy me the z-fold 4 did start to not open all the way I think I do have some sand in there and it even creaks and clicks when I open and close the device so and here's close here's open and here's close so a little softer close which is nice so I'm really excited about the pixel fold aspect ratios I'm still getting that full screen that I like to have but I'm also getting it in a different type of form factor something that I've really wanted Samsung to do for a long time but I don't think they're going to go that direction so it's nice that I do get to try it out so if you want to know more about the pixel fold make sure you hit subscribe because I'm going to be going more in depth on all the different things it can do the pixel specific features that I haven't been able to have on my personal device ever since this is going to be the first device that I fully activate and use on a daily basis and then I'm also going to be doing different case reviews as well as features and I will also be using the pixel watch so I'll be able to have full details on that now is eighteen hundred dollars worth it for a pixel fold I don't know yet we'll have to see but one thing is when I did purchase the phone I'm going to be trading in a fold three so I'm getting like a 900 discount there and then right now they are also giving away a pixel watch which is a 350 to 400 value I think you can even get the LTE one for free so with those discounts it is bringing the cost of the pixel fold down I think reasonably twelve hundred dollars would be great for a pixel full device you know long term but keeping all the great cameras and everything and I'm really impressed by the build quality they might have to keep that price a little higher so let me know what else you want to see on the pixel fold down in the comments below and I'll leave a link to one down in the description if you want to check it out there thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next oneafter four versions of the Samsung Galaxy fold a new competitor has joined the competition this is the Google pixel fold today we're going to get it set up and show you some of my favorite things it can do there we go so here we have the obsidian dollars worth it for a pixel fold I don't know yet we'll have to see but one thing is when I did purchase the phone I'm going to be trading in a fold three so I'm getting like a 900 discount there and then right now they are also giving away a pixel watch which is a 350 to 400 value I think you can even get the LTE one for free so with those discounts it is bringing the cost of the pixel fold down I think reasonably twelve hundred dollars would be great for a pixel full device you know long term but keeping all the great cameras and everything and I'm really impressed by the build quality they might have to keep that price a little higher so let me know what else you want to see on the pixel fold down in the comments below and I'll leave a link to one down in the description if you want to check it out there thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next one\n"
