Tesla Cyberquad build - Failure, Disaster, Death and Destruction

The process of building and customizing the quad bike, also known as a dirt bike or ATV, is a complex and challenging task that requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to troubleshoot and problem-solve.

As the author began working on the project, they decided to cut a small hole in the bottom of the plate to allow for cooling of the converter, which would prevent it from getting too hot in the tight space created by the plastics covering the main battery. This was a crucial step to ensure that the converter functioned properly and didn't overheat.

The author also had to extend the raw wires sticking out from the controller, which went all the way to the motor itself, as the new location of the motor required it. This was a nerve-wracking task, as the author wasn't sure if it would work, but they were determined to make it happen. They successfully extended the wires and moved on to the next step.

The phase wiring for the motor also had to be extended, as the motor was now much further away from its original location when it was part of a bike. The author labeled all the components, including positive and negative terminals, and made sure everything was in the right place.

The author then replaced the fuse that wasn't working, which was preventing the display from functioning properly. They also installed a new ignition switch, which they had purchased from a bike they had picked up earlier. This new switch was a more reliable option than trying to hotwire it, and it should turn everything on when activated.

Next, the author used the main battery's BMS test feature to check the state of the batteries. Unfortunately, none of them were functioning properly, leading to a frustrating experience. The author had to go through various fuses, including those from Cinematic Fuses and DeBo, but nothing seemed to work. They eventually gave up on trying to find working fuses and moved on.

The author then tried to adjust the chain tension, which was too loose for the original sprocket setup. They considered using a smaller sprocket or adding a chain tensioner, but ultimately decided to go with the original plan, which would require cutting the current sprocket setup down to size. The goal was to get a good enough tension on the chain to work properly.

The author then moved on to the secondary option of using a smaller sprocket for the motor's secondary mount. They considered both options and decided that using a larger sprocket would not work due to its size, but they still wanted to explore other possibilities.

In an emotional moment, the author reflected on their time with Jake the hamster, who had brought them joy for 18 months before passing away. The author then returned to the task at hand, realizing that they needed to order more parts to complete the project successfully.

The final paragraph of the article was left incomplete due to technical difficulties and formatting issues; however, it seems that the author is now working on completing the quad bike build and plans to share their progress on Instagram.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys Richard rich rebuilds here and a few months ago I said of building a Tesla cyber quad and unfortunately a bunch of things happen where a bunch of things closed down and there were lots of part shortages and shipping for non-essential items were ground to a halt but things are getting better now so I'll be picking up right where I left off which was nowhere here's a quick summary episode 1 I got the quad off Facebook marketplace the guy recognized me from the channel didn't get the discount I was looking for then I took it for a spin and struggled to get the rusted swingarm bolt out I purchased an electric motorcycle to power up the quad and it made a mock-up box for the battery then I made a discovery that the Tesla cyber quad looks as if it's powered by a zero motor so basically my quad is powered by the same thing so you could say it's Tesla powered after that I got the mounting points for the motor welded into the swingarm yes it's gonna be a swinger mounted motor yes the battery pack was too big to have the motor inside the housing and yes there is now unsprung weight on the swing arm no I didn't want to take apart the battery to stack the bricks according to the way you think I should have done it mainly because I would have compromised the water resistance of the pack because once you open the pack there's no going back and I'd have to build a custom waterproof box and if it wasn't waterproof you know I definitely find out the hard way now then my friend Stephen designed the whole bike out of a bunch of paper origami drawings and people had lots to say about the razor-sharp ABS plastic that potentially ripped my marbles yes people I hear you loud and clear I want me potentially cutting the family jewels and honestly I get it but if I wanted to trim down there I think I have a much more precise method than the cyber quad fenders and that's called manscaped the old way I used to do to maintain my masculinity had me using primitive tools that you may or may not know from watching this miserable Channel but I've evolved different from my love Milwaukee tools manscaped is the only company devoted to trimming below the waist to reduce Nicks and cuts so no more entering the danger zone in foolish ways plus there's even an LED light to trim in the darkness manscape even offers up to 7,000 rpms of pure cutting power which can blow the doors off your Nissan Leaf manscape is giving my peeps 20% off in the description box below because all my ball joints are so nice thanks manscape for sponsoring this sharp build - it's come Leisha after that great shape I installed the front bumper well but try as I may I never actually got the bike working remember the bike I got a few months ago well the battery was dead the bikes after too long at auction and drained the battery to the point of no return out of a hundred volts it was only showing about 24 so I had to remove the battery so I bought another few small batteries online out of a smaller 0 with less range because I considered reducing the battery size so I could fit the motor on board then I thought to myself why why sell myself short one that had the capability and the capacity to ride all day so I ordered a used full sized battery instead and well and fell off the pallet of the truck and got damaged but no big deal because I tested it and out of a hundred volts it was still showing at 100 internally it seemed fine until I connected it to the rest of the electronics and then I ended up blowing the main bike board and unfortunately I went through three of these at four hundred dollars a pop before I said to myself hey wait maybe I should stop using this battery so now I'm on the hunt for the bike and with zero you literally have to wait until a bike crashes to get a battery and motor setup unless you find someone hung it for super cheap that's really the only way to get a zero motorcycle and after a month of waiting one finally showed up so I got this bike at auction and it was a prior electric police bike I didn't even know that existed until now on electric police bike it's very beat-up and it was listed at a vandalize as the ignition is broken and I have no idea this battery is good let's get it home to see if it works good doesn't it could be months again before I find a good working battery setup now I loaded it into the truck got into my driveway plugged it into an off board charger that I purchased and it looks like the battery is taking a charge let's see where it goes from here all right now today we have to attempt to hotwire this bike because unfortunately the ignition was busted this thing's completely dusty thankfully on the zero is the hot wiring process very simple it's just two wires to connect together the first thing I want to do that one remove this tank of a quote-unquote tank if you look here the person added an aftermarket told accessory port those USB charging now when I pull this up you see this Plasti Dip all over it what they did now you can see there's two wires going through the frame of the bike so those two wires was soldered let's just see what they connected it I have electrical tape which is there - not the best soldering job but who am I to knock it but that wasn't a quick disconnect which wasn't great so pretty much you have to destroy it to get that tank off I'm gonna go ahead and tape those two wires out to make sure they don't connect and blow a fuse or something but if I look back up here I have to attempt to get to the ignition wire if I pop this off and I connect it to the old ignition that I had in another bike that should work just fine so this goes to the key switch and this goes to the main bike harness I'm gonna hook up the old key switch that I had in a prior bike right here turn it on and this thing should start up and if you notice one thing about this whole setup is that my hands are extremely ashy these are called working man's hands and obviously you wouldn't understand so thank you very much I always forget that error code is likely due to the kickstand look at this bad boy see that green light to do a baby it works rpm gauge isn't working but who cares I can't figure that out the green light is on and this bad manage EMA is ready to rock what's going to sport get some more power in the quad alright so my middle bit of progress turn this thing down as you can see this subcon controller is smaller than the previous one was which is great because the smaller the control the better it is for me I could actually tuck it the more confined spaces that I have on the quad space of the essence but this is the other positive and negative leads in the battery going to the controller and also the phase wires for the motor as well and the the main battery board for the 13 model years a little bit older but still the same size and sporm factor but I like where this is headed so far these components are smaller and they've been a lot better in the quad 40 the motor is the same size so though the outer power will be about the same power because of the small controller it might be a little bit less but not too bad if I want the future I could upgrade to the larger controller which I have you look carefully in here it looks like someone did some damage to that three prong plug that's supposed to charge the bike thankfully I use the other plug that's in the back and i leverage connector back there and what i'm working on right now i'm removing the front wiring harness but i'm also removing this steel undertray this is the steel underbelly that protects the the charging infrastructure as well as the battery on the other bikes it did not have a metal undertray had a plastic one which is very interesting this one is metal i'm not sure if because this bike is really meant to go more off roading or not whereas the other bikes which it'll be street bikes but even still it's a very cool design i also notice that this bike is a 2013 yet this ground strap is from 2017 so I'm running this impression that I think this might be a newer battery but even still I'm gonna keep plugging away at this I have the rear end jacked up pretty high you like my clever setup here it's not ideal obviously but the good thing is is that these are not the Harbor Freight jacks that were in the recall so this setup shouldn't kill me what do you guys think about this for checking us so yeah there's a lot going on here so basically these jacks wearing the rear swingarm of the bike I had to get the bike high enough so that it cleared the battery I dropped the batter up from the bottom and here we go and the battery is this really funky angle because I have two pieces of wood and I have to do that in order to get the Dolly's underneath it so I can move this around this weighs a ton but I think this is kind of slick Steven and I have managed to get that heavy-ass battery out in the most hilarious way possible but it's how that's all it matters we took it to the side and shook it like a pinata just freaking kidding what we have to do now is if you look here earlier approximately 15 months ago I cut this tab off on the bottom side so it would slide nice and easy into the quad that's a good-looking shot look at that shot that's a good-looking ass shot right there look at that some good-ass cheese anyways so I cut the bottom off so it would slide in nicely so now for the new battery I also have to cut that tab off slide it into this cavity and then this cavity then we should be guchi imal stage this bad in Menna Gemma this is the other new battery that's the old one rest in peace rest in peace Uncle Phil alright so the next thing we're gonna do now we're gonna Jack this up and Stephen had the bright idea instead of making it so awkward to push the jack forward we're actually just going to the quad over which weighs significantly less in this entire battery does so we're gonna get this into a place once it's in there we're in there like swimwear I cut those tabs off like I said I would I also cut that bottom off because on the bottom there was a matching tab to the front up here I guess I could have cut that one off for symmetry but you know how that goes it's already very late I don't feel like dealing with that so this is already cut that's gonna slide into place and that we should be good earlier the the gauge cluster didn't work but now it does thankfully and the most bizarre thing in the world I'll say it again is having a tack on there from electric motor but whatever this is the fuse I replaced it turns out it was the refuse that blew I put it another five amp fuse in there and the cluster works fine it was displaying km/h and I switched it over two miles per hour look at this rpm gauge right so when I turn it it's a very slow display it's very interesting how it doesn't really respond as quickly as it probably should but hey whatever and I hit a judge is still going in the quad regardless but everything is working right now and finally after a months and months of work I'm back to where I should have been a long time ago I got a very special package today and it's a very mysterious box I hopefully decide anything poised on the inside so hopefully no one's trying to kill me uncle rich what could it be what do you guys think it is probably a dildo dude no way man no way this is a battery from from SpaceX who's SpaceX battery look at dad no this is look at this this is badass this personalized what is that looks like an air valve in there no way does the space Richard this thing was literally in space man like what the hell is this perfect the batteries in Stephen life of the battery in and we have the controller on top we have the heatsink there as you can see for all you complainers that like to have heat sinks that obviously isn't secured at the top of it but at some point it will be but everything else in the middle of the quad is right here we have the main battery boards we also have the ODB ODB obd whatever it is OPP OPP so we have everything in here I know right everything inside here that's gonna it's gonna fit this is actually just rough cut because I want to make sure that everything is actually gonna work in the first place there's a lot less fuses on this bite than there were for the other one and again this is just a temporary kickstand summer havin place what I'll do is you know one we're ready to put everything back into the bike I'm just gonna jump this so the bike is pretty much always on not always on but it'll turn on via key and you'll need to put the kickstand up to have it work that's the DC to DC converter this will also go inside this box but just a matter of figuring out how to put it in there with adequate cooling so what I might do is I might actually cut a small hole in the bottom of that plate to allow cooling for the converter so it doesn't get too hot because this is going to be a pretty tight space once we put the plastics over the main battery so on the other side so these are just the raw wires sticking out but I actually had to extend these wires from the controller that go all the way to the motor itself so unfortunately before you know the controller wouldn't meet the motor in its new location so I had to extend these wires quite a bit that was pretty nerve-wracking because I wasn't sure if that's even gonna work but I guess we'll see pretty soon and also for these these are the battery the phase wires for the motor those have to be extended as well because the motor is a much further distance away than it was when it was in the bike itself so everything's here he's labeled we have positive negative the the phase wiring for the motors and those should be in the right place but everything as of right now is is kind of ready to go and from before this display wasn't working I replaced the fuse so hopefully that does light up now this new ignition switch is from a bike that I picked up a while back yeah I could Hotwire it but I really didn't want to go that route so once I turn this it should turn everything on and things should kind of be in place and just work so let's try that out nothing okay that's no good all right well let me see what I'm missing here well this haha main battery cease make sure your main battery uses it no comment dr. clay but whatever so that's before to that I was going through those fuses like crazy literally nothing was working I went through it in cinematic uses I got to in fuses on Amazon those users aren't exactly easy to find out of like debo nothing was working out I ended up checking out de the front of the battery the main battery will give you almost like a BMS test to see what state the batteries in I tried pressing on them but my older batteries nothing works still and it was a complete nightmare this thing is ended up costing me you don't want to know but now I'm going to try it one more time yeah now we're talking Oh heard that click nice display all right pray to do it works baby ready to dance baby hey that Facebook marketplace our tails will lose it's chain on and I must have test fitted this ain't change like a thousand times and this chain is definitely too loose and even taking out the links rather isn't really gonna do that much because bringing that up it won't be able to have the two links connect to each other it's it wouldn't make sense the other idea was also having a chain tensioner may be here but pushing it in that wouldn't make any sense and pulling that out having a chain tensioner here it would be too big and it would actually hit the bottom sprocket so now we're considering going with the original sprocket that we had in mind for this area it'll actually bring the bottom of it down a little bit hopefully I could actually cut this enough and put the right master link in so that obviously the chain is gonna have a good enough tension to go on the motor the secondary option is also getting a smaller sprocket here as of right now these are both very well evenly matched looks like if I get too big of a sprocket here this secondary mount for the motor it's not gonna end up hitting that and that's gonna be you know pretty much terrible no one - this is gonna be easy a lot of people just like that post the fun stuff but you know I'm gonna post an on fun stuff too we finally have a setup that works now it's just a matter of figuring out how I'm gonna work this sprocket set up and then enjoy Dada and I like dead dead like it's a bad oh Jesus I don't want that thing in the house so what was the name again Johnny Johnny right yeah there you go very it ready dad ready wait a second yeah I'm sorry can't be here he would you really loved you appreciated you okay now rest in peace Jake the hamster you brought us joy for the one and a half years you were on this earth now as you can see on the quad I have to order some more parts I bought a rear axle and bearing carrier the rear brake caliper assembly the new rear sprocket and rear disc I want to make sure when I'm ripping this thing through the woods that I die from the shady wiring and not a mechanical issue but the brakes failing due to being warped so ladies and gents thanks for watching catch me on instagram at richie be kid to see more info and i will see you all next weekhey guys Richard rich rebuilds here and a few months ago I said of building a Tesla cyber quad and unfortunately a bunch of so that obviously the chain is gonna have a good enough tension to go on the motor the secondary option is also getting a smaller sprocket here as of right now these are both very well evenly matched looks like if I get too big of a sprocket here this secondary mount for the motor it's not gonna end up hitting that and that's gonna be you know pretty much terrible no one - this is gonna be easy a lot of people just like that post the fun stuff but you know I'm gonna post an on fun stuff too we finally have a setup that works now it's just a matter of figuring out how I'm gonna work this sprocket set up and then enjoy Dada and I like dead dead like it's a bad oh Jesus I don't want that thing in the house so what was the name again Johnny Johnny right yeah there you go very it ready
