NFL Star Christian McCaffrey Explains Verizon 5G Tech in the NFL and at Super Bowl LIV
We're Here at the Verizon 5G Stadium in Miami Ahead of the Super Bowl
We're here at the Verizon 5G Stadium in Miami ahead of the Super Bowl, and we're joined by Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey. Christian, thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. Appreciate it.
We're here at the 5G Stadium talking about pretty much the limitless potential of the 5G and where they're going with that. Got to see an unbelievable presentation here in this cool theater that was pretty mind-blowing. You know, and then they had giving me a little bit of detail before all this but going through the experience seeing what 5g is gonna bring to the game of football. I'm hearing from the other panelists as well and seeing what it's gonna do for law enforcement. What it's gonna do for the NFL. What it's gonna do for us. Athletes, this is pretty amazing.
With the 5G capabilities for you specifically, there's a lot of things that it can do for you. I think everything I do is filmed. We watch film before practice. We go out practice. We watch film after practice. And being able to see different angles as a player and watch film that way, you know seeing specific players zooming in, seeing the way they move, seeing why people are doing certain things on the field in my training. You know filming, you know any kind of sprint or lift and seeing my shin angles, seeing how my torso is related to my lower body, seeing I mean the way my feet moving on ground contact that stuff that I've never been able to do before. And now with 5G, you're able to do things like that. It's a way for me personally, I'm excited because it's gonna take my game to the next level, take my preparation to the next level, and continue to make the game fun.
You talked about using technology and your workout regimens and things like that. And using this 5G for filming. But there was one thing that I was reading about gyro stim that you use. Could you tell me a little bit more about it? Yes, the gyro stim J uh, it's tough to explain but it's a machinery you know you're strapped in and there's targets that are placed in different places around you. It's a 360 degree machine so you turn in all different angles and they're the angles that you turn are unpredictable so you're spinning backwards forwards you're stopping midway through pretty much in a ball if you're in a spinning ball that you don't know where it's going. And you have laser pointers, and and the purpose of it is to hit the targets. The reason you do that is for proprioception which is basically your brain's telling your body where you are in space so you have awareness of where you are you know if I'm get a hand off to the right and the holes to the left being able to hit that hole at a split second. You go pretty fast in this machine but it's a way to sync your brain to an equilibrium to where you know you're able to react at very very split seconds to a target. And it's it's you know relevant for football because that's pretty much what I do, I react, I know I have to hit a hole I have to catch a ball that's moving extremely fast at me I have to make guys miss in space so seeing the cut before it happens same as gyruss them seeing seeing the target before it happens being able to you know move with contact. So it's all it's a pretty cool machine. Awesome. Well, hey thank you so much for taking the time with us if you guys want more Super Bowl 50 for coverage stay tuned to Digital Trends live or go over to Digital Trends calm until next time I'm Riley Wynn with Digital Trends and thanks for watching
