DIY Independence Day Scrapbook - Throwback Thursday - HGTV Handmade

**Getting Started with Stamping**

Going to be working with the things on this page on these Pages here that's right and so you can see the the stamp implemented right here on this page with the the glitter glue that I'm going to show you how simple it is to add okay so let's see how you do that.

So, let's go ahead and ink the stamp with the cranberry ink pad that came right in the box that's so you know while you're inking that's that is such a cool concept but comes to you in the mail absolutely sometimes it's hard to find time to go shopping you know you like do it for us right and everything's all coordinated so if you find yourself to be a little challenged in that area you're ready to go a little challenged okay. So, there's your image and then at that point you can just go through and add a little bit of glitter glue to add that sparkle and the glitter glue is so nice cuz the color shows through you just get the sparkle ex exactly and these are the ey stickles by Ranger oh that's such a neat that really looks great it's simple just let it dry for a few hours and you're ready to go now.

**Adding Details with Stencils**

The next thing I want to tell you about is the um the journaling stencil where I've just taken some handwriting I've just written right in the openings right on this stencil I'm going to bring this up so this is what you're referring to here right and the finished application is is that you can go ahead and write directly onto your printed vum paper I don't think a lot of people think of writing on printed paper and then even beyond that just go ahead and take that printed velum paper and place it over another print and it's a beautiful accent I didn't want to cover up the opening that was left by the photos and and the stamped image and so once I could just cover it with the so you can see the pattern that was on the paper showing through which is nice and then the printed stuff on the Vellum and then you used this tool this is how you ended up doing the the tracing cor and then all you simply do is just mount it with some clear photo mounting Corners you don't need to worry about adhesive issues as well okay.

**Adding Shading and Texture**

So, this then is this is how you got you know straight lines exactly my own handwriting in your own handwriting you have good handwriting thank you that's great and then um what else well finally I'd like to show you kind of a a very neat element that we included in many of our kits is an overlay stencil and the colors are separated out so as you work with your inks you don't need to worry about um getting from one color into another and you can overlay uh numerous colors in in a very effective way what I'm going to do is use a color box sponge tip stylus and go ahead and place the stencil where you would like it to go and pick up some ink right off the pad with a sponge tip I'm just going to go ahead and with a a pressing and sponging motion just go ahead and fill in the areas of the stencil and the the ink pad that you're using is just um it looks like it's just black it's a d based ink pad and so it's not messy at all it cleans up with water so doing it like that it's just coming off kind of a nice shadow a nice gray right and then I'm going to switch colors now to a yellow and move the stencil and this flame of the hand of Liberty um torch here is going to fill in in the appropriate spot of what I've already laid down and because the first one was a dark of color you can see where to place it exactly so when I set pull that aside oh look at that it's beautiful but you don't have to be done right now you can actually go ahead with your black sponge tip and and just add a little bit of shading with the ink that was already left mhm so now you're just kind of mushing it yeah and is that how is that this look look at this then if I take the yellow and pull pull through even some of that color it adds a soft glow to the torch it's gorgeous I'm going to pull it over here next to so this is this element here.

**Tips for Using Stencils with Multiple Colors**

I mean look at this whole layout that is so pretty thank you oh what great ideas thank you so much there were actually some really good tips in there about stenciling with multiple colors and writing on Vellum let me know in the comments have you ever made any kind of similar scrapbook or do you think you might after the Fourth of July festivities are over.

I'm here with Trisha Morris from Club scrap and she has great ideas for those Fourth of July Pages welcome Trisha thanks Sandy well now Club scrap you were telling me offers kits that's right scrapbooking kits absolutely every month our members receive a kit in the mail and this is this is an example of the Americana kit and in every box there are about 16 to 30 sheets of paper including 12 x 12s and 8 and 1 12 by 11s idea cards overlay stencils cutouts um these were just some items that were included right in the box that comes to your door and so which kit is this this is the Americana collection okay and one of the elements that I'm going to show you is the um star and stripe stamp that was included in this box okay and I'm going to set my flag right here um because it looks to me like we're going to be working with the things on this page on these Pages here that's right and so you can see the the stamp implemented right here on this page with the the glitter glue that I'm going to show you how simple it is to add okay so let's see how you do that so let's go ahead and ink the stamp with the cranberry ink pad that came right in the box that's so you know while of our kits is an overlay stencil and the colors are separated out so as you work with your inks you don't need to worry about um getting from one color into another and you can overlay uh numerous colors in in a very effective way what I'm going to do is use a color box sponge tip stylus and go ahead and place the stencil where you would like it to go and pick up some ink right off the pad with a sponge tip I'm just going to go ahead and with a a pressing and sponging motion just go ahead and fill in the areas of the stencil and the the ink pad that you're using is just um it looks like it's just black it's a d based ink pad and so it's not messy at all it cleans up with water so doing it like that it's just coming off kind of a nice shadow a nice gray right and then I'm going to switch colors now to a yellow and move the stencil and this flame of the hand of Liberty um torch here is going to fill in in the appropriate spot of what I've already laid down and because the first one was a dark of color you can see where to place it exactly so when I set pull that aside oh look at that it's beautiful but you don't have to be done right now you can actually go ahead with your black sponge tip and and just add a little bit of shading with the ink that was already left mhm so now you're just kind of mushing it yeah and is that how is that this look look at this then if I take the yellow and pull pull through even some of that color it adds a soft glow to the torch it's gorgeous I'm going to pull it over here next to so this is this element here and I mean look at this whole
