Episode 2 | Cameron Wurf | AN IRON WILL Season 1

The Unyielding Spirit of Cameron Wurf: A Marathon of Endurance and Resilience

As he embarked on his latest challenge, Cameron Wurf from Australia was determined to push himself to new limits. He had been training tirelessly for months, fine-tuning his body and mind to prepare him for the ultimate test: a half-marathon at an unprecedented pace that would leave most people in awe. The crowd watched in amazement as he stormed off the line, his legs pumping furiously as he devoured the distance with ease. His competitors struggled to keep up, unable to match his blistering speed and endurance.

Fresh from a grueling bike ride, Cameron Wurf had arrived at the starting line feeling confident and prepared. He knew that his previous experience on two wheels would give him an edge in terms of power and speed, allowing him to maintain a fast pace throughout the half-marathon. As he hurtled down the track, it was clear that he was not just showing off; this was serious business, driven by a deep-seated desire to succeed and push the boundaries of human performance.

The early stages of the race saw Cameron Wurf rapidly gaining ground on his rivals. In fact, within the first 45 minutes, he had already closed the gap with Sam Ladow, who would go on to post one of the fastest marathons of the day. The Australian's strategy was clear: to build up a significant lead early on and then conserve his energy for the final push. And it was working; as the kilometers ticked by, Cameron Wurf continued to pull ahead, his determination and focus driving him forward with every step.

However, as he approached the 15K mark, disaster struck. A sudden onset of stomach cramps forced Cameron Wurf to take a drastic measure: stepping off the course and abandoning his bid for the top spot. It was a move that would have been unthinkable for any athlete, but one that spoke volumes about Cameron's unwavering commitment to finishing what he started. Even as his body protested with pain and discomfort, his mind remained resolute, driving him to press on and complete the course.

The aftermath of this shocking turn of events saw Cameron Wurf cross the finish line in an impressive 14th place. While the result may not have been the one he had hoped for, it was clear that he had given it his all and left everything on the track. As he looked around at his fellow competitors, he knew that he had earned their respect if not their admiration. After all, not many athletes could claim to have withstood such grueling conditions and emerged with a smile still plastered on their face.

In the end, Cameron Wurf's remarkable performance served as a testament to his character and resolve. Despite the setbacks and disappointments that inevitably arose during the course of the competition, he had refused to give up. He was an athlete driven by a deep-seated passion for sports, one that would stop at nothing to achieve greatness. And even though this particular marathon may not have been the one he had envisioned, it was clear that Cameron Worf's spirit and determination would carry him through even greater challenges in the future.

Cam Wurf: A True Champion

Cameron Wurf is a name that has become synonymous with excellence and endurance. This Australian athlete has spent years honing his craft, pushing himself to new limits and testing the boundaries of human performance. His marathon efforts have been nothing short of breathtaking, with performances that leave fans and competitors alike in awe.

One of the key factors that sets Cameron Wurf apart from his peers is his ability to dig deep when it matters most. He is a true champion, one who is willing to suffer more than anyone else if it means achieving greatness. This is evident not just in his physical performance but also in his mental toughness and resilience.

As we watched Cameron Wurf storm off the line, it was clear that he had spent years developing this inner strength. His body may have been tired from a grueling bike ride, but his mind was razor-sharp and focused. He knew exactly what he needed to do to succeed and executed it with precision and power.

And yet, even as Cameron Wurf seemed invincible on the track, there were those who doubted him. Who would have picked him as the strongest runner in the field? Certainly not the bookies, who had priced him at 100:1 odds of winning. But for Cameron, that only fueled his determination and desire to prove himself.

When it came time to run fast, Cameron Wurf did just that. He accelerated off the line with a speed that left onlookers gasping in amazement. His rivals struggled to keep up, unable to match his blistering pace or endurance.

But even as he hurtled down the track, Cameron Wurf knew that the real challenge was yet to come. The second half of the marathon would be where his true mettle was tested, and he would have to draw upon every last ounce of energy and determination to see it through.

And so, with a deep breath and a resolute heart, Cameron Wurf pushed forward, refusing to let anything stand in his way. His competitors struggled on behind him, but for the Australian, there were no doubts or fears. This was what he had trained for, and nothing would stop him from achieving greatness.

As we watched Cameron Wurf step off the course with a surprising 14th place finish, it was clear that this athlete had truly earned our respect. Despite the setbacks and disappointments that inevitably arose during the course of the competition, he had refused to give up. He was an athlete driven by a deep-seated passion for sports, one that would stop at nothing to achieve greatness.

And so, as we look back on Cameron Wurf's remarkable performance, it is clear that this Australian has truly earned his place among the great champions of our time. His dedication, perseverance, and sheer force of will make him an inspiration to us all, a reminder that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI found myself even in the bike races thinking about what's going to come on Sunday thinking about those tough moments that I'm going to be asked out there on the course and cam wor from Australia is absolutely annihilating this you got to fight for it you got to keep fighting fighting fighting and you know that mentality that's a guy who's very dangerous on race day I'm really grateful for that opportunity you know that racing at the highest possible level of you know cycling has brought me and a little extra skill that I think I've got up my sleeve that perhaps some of the others don't possess he's the one of the best cyclist in the sport I write down the start of the Year objectives and things I want to do and one thing this year I wrote was embrace ain't going nowhere we'll be standing end of the end of that's great we'll wait we'll wait till right how you feeling though good trying to make this as easy as possible I came down a bit earlier because we went to Barcelona last weekend before I went to the bike races and the Heat hit you like the humidity so I was like I got to do a proper session down here so even more two layers Hightech heat training I've got mov hope I have to race in and you raced here already once this year do you feel like you have a uh Owen that R I came and checked out the C and I got free food all day to do it so yeah I know what I'm in for looking forward to racing it on Sunday that's for sure you said anything about the water temperature no it's hot everyone's saying it's going to be wed I just don't believe it how was your buildup doing a what was it 5day 5day race in Belgium yeah did a 5day race one day race before that navigate through a world to a race in Belgium with all the skin still on my body then I think I've done a pretty good job it's easy it's the easiest place to be in Belgium is on the front it's the hardest thing to actually get onto the front you're feeling fit going into uh coming into World Championships who knows how do I look you look good you're making good time tracking you on the tracker generally when you're in good shape you just want to go out and race and see what matters is what happens on race day but I've done everything I want to do so I'm ready to go we don't even know who we on the start this current generation they they changed their mind about race not they changed their underpants so I'm just prepared to uh yeah go as well as I can I'm not too concerned about anyone else to be honest we are trailing some of our male athletes here into transition early they're dropping off their personal needs bags they're getting themselves body marked we'll be heading down to our good friend Greg Welch who's going to catch some of our male professionals as they make their way through the body marking on their way into transition welcome to the 2023 Vin fast IM man World Championship standing by now Australia's cam worth is going to definitely shake it up today cam Worf is a guy who I think brings a lot of excitement to the sport cuz he's kind of a freak it's it's a really good course I mean you anyone who can be on a pro tour team and not just some domestique back but a guy who's like really pulling his weight and helping out his Pro Tour team and then goes and like dabbles in the top of the world of pro Ironman Triathlon and still does super well that's a guy who's very dangerous on race day so this is Special Needs our Pro stuff's in there isn't it h yeah yeah during race week you look at all the athletes and see their demeanor the way that they walk the way that they talk the way that they hold themselves cam had an air of confidence skills not breaks he was full of smiles and he was ready to go he was ready to eat up that competition we are now seeing the sun Peak its way over the hillside there and start to illuminate that beautiful Mediterranean Sea a world championship in this Sport's incredibly important to me because uh I've won Iron Mans I've you know been fifth in cona so in reality it's really the only thing left to achieve um to me after the World Championships every other race is the same I mean they're all other races our Pros getting ready to get in the water you know I grew up as a kid rowing and the big Target was the World Championships or the Olympics you know it was it was always that Pinnacle of the sport so in my sporting career this is the one thing that you know I I want more than anything else the best of the best have come to the south of France to jump into the Mediterranean Sea and do what they can do to take home the title of vinfast Iron Man world champion and this my friends is what we've all been waiting for in the blue and red there coming to the front and when he goes to the gutter that could make things very difficult for the pelaton and inos now putting the pressure on and that could be a split if there are some Crosswinds we haven't had an indication of that but they're going so quickly at the front I've always love doing a lot of exercise a lot of different sports so I guess triathlon's sort of the perfect one for me I mean now I'm doing triathon and racing and you know one of the best teams in the world and cycling but I've always loved doing a lot of different things obviously I mean if I could ride a horse I'd do pentathlon but I don't I I don't really enjoy riding horses well camworth um probably one of the greatest allr Athletes In Our Generation camworth just loves to train he loves to hurt himself loves to get out there and the longer it is the better it is camw Worf is certainly a unique athlete but I think a lot of times people get really almost hung up on his cycling background and completely forget that this is a guy who went to the Olympics was a uh U23 world champion in rowing this is a guy who's an amazing athlete full stop he's a jack of all trades there are not many Sports he um isn't Advanced at whether it's yeah triathlons biking surfing golfing skiing he uh he's amazing at the mall just dedicated it was a bit of a dream to one day du cona growing up watching Greg Welsh you know we went through all the agonizing years of him getting beaten and then him finally winning you know we felt like we rode that within the whole country you know he was an absolute National icon so that was the a lure to Kaa simply because of because of Greg Welsh so in 2019 camworth he's all business and now it's all about setting himself up for an IM man World Championship Victory gets out of the swim in a good place gets onto the bike and Rockets to the front by 60 Mi brings it home in a bike course record in 414 and closed it off with an incredible run for the ever improving pro cyclist former rower I would say triathlete a fifth place for cam worth he's arrived he knows he's got the confidence he knows he can win the race 2022 he did take down the bike course record but didn't go so well on the Run he faded to an 11th Place finish on the day you know I won my last World Championship 20 years ago so it's like a 20- year anniversary as an under 23 in rowing yeah I've been chasing that feeling for 20 years I've had a journey in Triathlon that I never imagined I'd have if I think about achievements yeah okay it's cool to win and all that stuff but I remember you know you get to a point in your life where you see families with kids and you go wow that's success you know like be out to have a wife and a child and have them grow up and be healthy I mean I'm just proud as punch with that and so when you know people show genuine Delight that we do turn up as a family we do do it as a family and and knowing that I'm not there as a sideshow I'm there to try and win that really gives me a lot of energy I I love that about the sport an inwater start our men lining up less than a minute to go before the start of the vinfast Iron Man World Championship World Championship our professional men are racing can you make some we do have a water temperature of 20 4.8 de C that is above the wet suit legal limit so none of our athletes today will be in wet suits there was an announcement around about 5:00 in the morning that no wet suits will be worn for the pro athletes so the problem is for the weakest swimmer a wet suit is going to allow them to swim faster because number one the buoyancy and the fastest swimmers love to not wear the wet suits because it is going to put them a little bit further in front of the we swimmers and possibly some of the stronger bike riders out there so that was a blow at the early part of the day for camworth here this neon green cap of Cameron Worf has lost touch yeah the day just kind of started out perfectly almost too perfectly I was in that main swim pack and in a great spot and then um there was a bit of an acceleration after around 2 and a half 3 km and I was towards the back and I just couldn't quite hang on two black buoys and these men are about ready to hit Solid Ground cam Worf is out of the water nearly 3 and A2 minutes down from the leaders I'm also surprised by how much time Cameron WF lost and he's going to pay the price for it he's he's well back of where I thought he would be and is trailed by Frenchman Leon chevier we're at Cafe Soul uh I'm not sure the name of the town but it's a really nice little town and um I'm out doing the Recon for the Iron Man lanzerotti on Saturday and checking out the course I was told I don't normally like to Recon courses I just like to rock Up Normally in race but they're usually pretty straightforward but people warned me about this one they said it's good to see it obviously my big objective is to qualify for the World Championship perect thanks thank you thank you Saturday thank you thank you if if I do my tri days NS you know what would you have you know and um and then when you come back to races and see out people seem genuinely excited to see you you realize you've made you and U and obviously fuels my fire to making bigger impact to make sure no one ever againsts me yeah this year's been first part is all about qualifying and uh I was certainly on a bit of the back foot you know after getting you know being out being sick you know around Kaa time last year and took a while to recover then I actually broke a few ribs in January then the season started and then I don't get to train a lot because I'm traveling all over the place I Was Here There and Everywhere um and I had to qualify and so it became quite a challenge nothing to get too stressed about it's going to be pretty uh it's going to be what it be he had a number of different options but why cam chose IR man lanzerotti is because of the bike course that was going to be the best chance that he would qualify a lot of the athletes will go to w man lar or put it on their program because they want the challenge and generally you will have the stronger bikers that will sign up for this race because it's going to take that solid bike ride to set up your game I was had a big lead and thought I got this in the bag just take look after yourself take it easy and there there was a couple of guys that came from a long way back just running super quick and when they got near me later in the run I was caught blackf footed really and that was it they were gone they were past me and I couldn't do anything about it hey good stuff great run man B Show run for congrats bike course record and all so close but uh Ro play the top two I'm guessing these guys are going to grab their new spots oh yeah they deserve it as I always say it's how it should be you got to Wi it I mean I wasn't good enough to do that but honestly I'm wrapped to be on the podium because uh I mean that was about the performance I thought I'd need to win let alone get third and uh I yeah I gave it everything I had and uh an unusual day for cam so now where does he go I I feel like i' I've done enough enough weeks of of proper Iron Man training to have a really good foundation ler was 75% of a really good race I I really feel like I'm I'm C H 100% tomorrow only 100% well that's the best you can do isn't it yeah okay thank so cam arrives in clarenford he's confident he's ready to go he's recovered from laner strategy wise I had a plan to swim as best as I could and try and be with the main group of favorites which I was able to do it was a little harder than I expected but I was able to be there he comes out of the water he goes down the canal everybody's cheering for cam as he runs up to his bike he gets on the bike a little bit down the deficits there camworth is now charging toward the front of the race then on the bike I was able to get myself into a you know a winning position he's charging for the win but more importantly he's charging for that qualifying spot for the world championship and then on the run my plan was to try you know and win the race in the first half marathon on and then assess where I was because yes you always want to win but most important I had to qualify for for N I realized that uh madus pedon was running quite well and would be a big fight to try to hold him off or to challenge him so I obviously had to be a little bit conservative and make sure that I didn't um ruin my own race and miss out on the qualification because there were two two slots what a swim what a bik and what a run second place from Australia almost went perfectly very close to perfect obviously a win would have been the perfect outcome but it felt better than any of the wins I had to be honest because I've struggled a lot with the qualification the sports got better the athletes got better this was probably the biggest challenge qualifying I'm really confident that I can um be a factor at the world championships in n in uh in September and we have the second place 80242 Australia represented by the Uber fighter Cameron worth is more than just an U as well now we need to check something who wants to go to the world championship so wait we've got two coner slots now cam I didn't tell you in the beginning cuz I wanted you to go quickly but my T already had his slot from South Africa so you could have come third but Cameron W says and the world championship you you you know it's the one race where that's all that matters it's there can only be one winner and that's it's such a privilege to be on the start line to even have a chance to fight for it so um yeah you owe it to yourself and you owe to everyone else that puts time and effort into you to do nothing but just go for it and try and win the thing so we're down here in N for the very first time you know for this IMM worlds Championship the nature of this course is making it ex you're on a challenging course like this riding flat out 2023 vinfast imare World Championship in this is setting up for cam very difficult bike course this bike course has everything it's undulated it's curvy it's whiny it's something that a pro tour cyclist is wanting camworth is just absolutely licking his chops and then you have the desense this race is setting up possibly for K's IMM World Championship victory yeah I think everyone knows my strategy at no point even trying to say I'm going to do anything else but I'm going to try and turn it into a bike race and then we'll see who's the strongest on the run now it was up to cam Worth to really put the hammer down and get after that death we're looking at one of the favorites for this race is a professional cyclist and he's on one of the biggest and most successful professional teams that we've ever seen in procycling and he's here racing the Iron Man World Championship yeah I mean I'm incredibly privileged to be on you know member of the anyos grenes cycling team but I don't there to make up the numbers uh when I'm available you know the team will send me to some of the biggest races not like when I show up oh Cameron you're just a triathlete so you just do this stuff you know you're you're part of the team and and I'm expected to perform um and uh expected to do my job I love being surrounded by top people in every single aspect of my life I love seeing people achieve and I you know try and learn le as much as I can from that to feed my own success this year has been much more like we pictured you know getting called into races a bit less um but bigger races I mean I I was doing a lot of smaller races just cuz we were short on numbers whereas now it's more okay we when we need you for a really important race that's when we'll call you I'm sort of there to to let the big stars not have their routines uh interrupted and I'm very happy having my routine interrupted to go and do par r on Easter Sundays when I realized he was on a totally different level as a professional cyclist and a triathlete was 2 years ago and the per Ru there were two favorites Matthew Vanderpool and Watt van out and his job was to set the pace at the front into the most iconic section of that race that every every body knows it's the toughest part it's when it happens it's when the race is split it's where the Champions are made he was at the front going as hard as he could and those two favorites weren't even there so we're talking about the people that are like man these two guys maybe the best sports ever seen cam was in the front going as hard as he could and they couldn't keep up and that is crazy and not only did he finish the race the next year he he did the same thing wasn't quite as far up front but was able to help his team as much as he could finish the race dude went for a run he went for a run I'm going to go run a half marathon at a pace that most people couldn't do fresh and people thought it was like you know him showing off or whatever but no he's just like what is going to prepare me best for this world championship down the road and it's me knowing what my legs feel like after the hardest bike ride that I could possibly think of I mean nobody's ever done that before and it's amazing and hilarious and it's spectacular and cam Worf from Australia is absolutely annihilating this cam Worf true expert Cal Under Pressure Cameron morph he hits the gas straight away he's doing 50k an hour and if you want to kind of stay in touch well you're going to have to push really hard too it's crazy to think like in the first 45 minutes you're already making up like 25 spots or something like that which is pretty cool I like thought about the whole time on the bike was even when I heard the gap for Sam going out was just try to get there try to get there you know recover a little here smash this climb Go bomb down the descend as hard as you can um do everything try to get back to the front and try and give yourself a chance to to win this thing camworth now on the back part of the race was fast enough to move all the way through 24 people to get off the bike in the top five next athlete coming in right now is camw from Australia what a great ride that he had yeah and he looks really smooth too W he does look focused you can see in his eyes he's not cracked you know what it feels like when you get off the bike and you you've spent too many chips as they say can cam Worf uh hold on again no one would ever uh pick him as the strongest runner in the field but uh he's done an incredible amount of work if there's anyone who knows how to dig deep when it counts and is willing to suffer more than anyone it's cam it's in his DNA it's what he lives for and 40 years old this guy is still pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sport um I did a good solid bike ride but knowing that i' also have to run fast so the confidence is still there that he was carrying around during race week gets off the bike in the top five and now accelerates off for a fast start to the run but a sore stomach he took on a lot of water in the swim and now that would be painful four and now losing a little bit of time to the runners up front that would be Sam ladow laying down one of the fastest marathons that he's ever done and Patrick Langer absolutely thrashing it through the field and cam Worf now failing a little bit and slowing up started the Run quite well thinking that I was still in a fight for you know look like Sam was gone but a Podium and top five and uh for that 15K hly believed that I had a chance to run down you know at least Magnus and Rudy I thought they'd start to struggle and I thought I could hang in there and maybe when Patrick came past I try and respond and help Pace me up there they were all the things I was thinking about until the second that I literally had no choice but to on if everything dropped my pants and B off the course it was um it's amazing how quickly things can change he could have stepped off the course of any time on the run but not cam he is just an incredible athlete he wants to get himself across that finish line and finish something that he started even after you know the first stop I had I tried to chase down Patrick again but it was a bit of a fruitless task you know the my body yeah made my mind I desperately wanted to but it just wasn't wasn't working and uh it just sort of went downhill from there that's never happened before so just was what it was and it's 14th Place for Australian Cameron worth I'm still hanging in there by the by my fingertips to sort of potentially be part of that top rotation but if I genuinely want to actually race those guys in the final 20K of of the marathon I got to make some changes and um and just basically do the small details much better it's not what he expected but his character and the way that he carries himself was uh true to can he's going to hold his head high and he'll be back for another crack at the world crownI found myself even in the bike races thinking about what's going to come on Sunday thinking about those tough moments that I'm going to be asked out there on the course and cam wor from Australia is absolutely annihilating this you got to fight for it you got to keep fighting fighting fighting and you know that mentality that's a guy who's very dangerous on race day I'm really grateful for that opportunity you know that racing at the highest possible level of you know cycling has brought me and a little extra skill that I think I've got up my sleeve that perhaps some of the others don't possess he's the one of the best cyclist in the sport I write down the start of the Year objectives and things I could ride a horse I'd do pentathlon but I don't I I don't really enjoy riding horses well camworth um probably one of the greatest allr Athletes In Our Generation camworth just loves to train he loves to hurt himself loves to get out there and the longer it is the better it is camw Worf is certainly a unique athlete but I think a lot of times people get really almost hung up on his cycling background and completely forget that this is a guy who went to the Olympics was a uh U23 world champion in rowing this is a guy who's an amazing athlete full stop he's a jack of all trades there are not many Sports he um isn't Advanced at whether it's yeah triathlons biking surfing golfing skiing he uh he's amazing at the mall just dedicated it was a bit of a dream to one day du cona growing up watching Greg Welsh you know we went through all the agonizing years of him getting beaten and then him finally winning you know we felt like we rode that within the whole country you know he was an absolute National icon so that was the a lure to Kaa simply because of because of Greg Welsh so in 2019 camworth he's all business and now it's all about setting himself up for an IM man World Championship Victory gets out of the swim in a good place gets onto the bike and Rockets to the front by 60 Mi brings it home in a bike course record in 414 and closed it off with an incredible run for the ever improving pro cyclist former rower I would say triathlete a fifth place for cam worth he's arrived he knows he's got the confidence he knows he can win the race 2022 he did take down the bike course record but didn't go so well on the Run he faded to an 11th Place finish on the day you know I won my last World Championship 20 years ago so it's like a 20- year anniversary as an under 23 in rowing yeah I've been chasing that feeling for 20 years I've had a journey in Triathlon that I never imagined I'd have if I think about achievements yeah okay it's cool to win and all that stuff but I remember you know you get to a point in your life where you see families with kids and you go wow that's success you know like be out to have a wife and a child and have them grow up and be healthy I mean I'm just proud as punch with that and so when you know people show genuine Delight that we do turn up as a family we do do it as a family and and knowing that I'm not there as a sideshow I'm there to try and win that really gives me a lot of energy I I love that about the sport an inwater start our men lining up less than a minute to go before the start of the vinfast Iron Man World Championship World Championship our professional men are racing can you make some we do have a water temperature of 20 4.8 de C that is above the wet suit legal limit so none of our athletes today will be in wet suits there was an announcement around about 5:00 in the morning that no wet suits will be worn for the pro athletes so the problem is for the weakest swimmer a wet suit is going to allow them to swim faster because number one the buoyancy and the fastest swimmers love to not wear the wet suits because it is going to put them a little bit further in front of the we swimmers and possibly some of the stronger bike riders out there so that was a blow at the early part of the day for camworth here this neon green cap of Cameron Worf has lost touch yeah the day just kind of started out perfectly almost too perfectly I was in that main swim pack and in a great spot and then um there was a bit of an acceleration after around 2 and a half 3 km and I was towards the back and I just couldn't quite hang on two black buoys and these men are about ready to hit Solid Ground cam Worf is out of the water nearly 3 and A2 minutes down from the leaders I'm also surprised by how much time Cameron WF lost and he's going to pay the price for it he's he's well back of where I thought he would be and is trailed by Frenchman Leon chevier we're at Cafe Soul uh I'm not sure the name of the town but it's a really nice little town and um I'm out doing the Recon for the Iron Man lanzerotti on Saturday and checking out the course I was told I don't normally like to Recon courses I just like to rock Up Normally in race but they're usually pretty straightforward but people warned me about this one they said it's good to see it obviously my big objective is to qualify for the World Championship perect thanks thank you thank you Saturday thank you thank you if if I do my tri days NS you know what would you have you know and um and then when you come back to races and see out people seem genuinely excited to see you you realize you've made you and U and obviously fuels my fire to making bigger impact to make sure no one ever againsts me yeah this year's been first part is all about qualifying and uh I was certainly on a bit of the back foot you know after getting you know being out being sick you know around Kaa time last year and took a while to recover then I actually broke a few ribs in January then the season started and then I don't get to train a lot because I'm traveling all over the place I Was Here There and Everywhere um and I had to qualify and so it became quite a challenge nothing to get too stressed about it's going to be pretty uh it's going to be what it be he had a number of different options but why cam chose IR man lanzerotti is because of the bike course that was going to be the best chance that he would qualify a lot of the athletes will go to w man lar or put it on their program because they want the challenge and generally you will have the stronger bikers that will sign up for this race because it's going to take that solid bike ride to set up your game I was had a big lead and thought I got this in the bag just take look after yourself take it easy and there there was a couple of guys that came from a long way back just running super quick and when they got near me later in the run I was caught blackf footed really and that was it they were gone they were past me and I couldn't do anything about it hey good stuff great run man B Show run for congrats bike course record and all so close but uh Ro play the top two I'm guessing these guys are going to grab their new spots oh yeah they deserve it as I always say it's how it should be you got to Wi it I mean I wasn't good enough to do that but honestly I'm wrapped to be on the podium because uh I mean that was about the performance I thought I'd need to win let alone get third and uh I yeah I gave it everything I had and uh an unusual day for cam so now where does he go I I feel like i' I've done enough enough weeks of of proper Iron Man training to have a really good foundation ler was 75% of a really good race I I really feel like I'm I'm C H 100% tomorrow only 100% well that's the best you can do isn't it yeah okay thank so cam arrives in clarenford he's confident he's ready to go he's recovered from laner strategy wise I had a plan to swim as best as I could and try and be with the main group of favorites which I was able to do it was a little harder than I expected but I was able to be there he comes out of the water he goes down the canal everybody's cheering for cam as he runs up to his bike he gets on the bike a little bit down the deficits there camworth is now charging toward the front of the race then on the bike I was able to get myself into a you know a winning position he's charging for the win but more importantly he's charging for that qualifying spot for the world championship and then on the run my plan was to try you know and win the race in the first half marathon on and then assess where I was because yes you always want to win but most important I had to qualify for for N I realized that uh madus pedon was running quite well and would be a big fight to try to hold him off or to challenge him so I obviously had to be a little bit conservative and make sure that I didn't um ruin my own race and miss out on the qualification because there were two two slots what a swim what a bik and what a run second place from Australia almost went perfectly very close to perfect obviously a win would have been the perfect outcome but it felt better than any of the wins I had to be honest because I've struggled a lot with the qualification the sports got better the athletes got better this was probably the biggest challenge qualifying I'm really confident that I can um be a factor at the world championships in n in uh in September and we have the second place 80242 Australia represented by the Uber fighter Cameron worth is more than just an U as well now we need to check something who wants to go to the world championship so wait we've got two coner slots now cam I didn't tell you in the beginning cuz I wanted you to go quickly but my T already had his slot from South Africa so you could have come third but Cameron W says and the world championship you you you know it's the one race where that's all that matters it's there can only be one winner and that's it's such a privilege to be on the start line to even have a chance to fight for it so um yeah you owe it to yourself and you owe to everyone else that puts time and effort into you to do nothing but just go for it and try and win the thing so we're down here in N for the very first time you know for this IMM worlds Championship the nature of this course is making it ex you're on a challenging course like this riding flat out 2023 vinfast imare World Championship in this is setting up for cam very difficult bike course this bike course has everything it's undulated it's curvy it's whiny it's something that a pro tour cyclist is wanting camworth is just absolutely licking his chops and then you have the desense this race is setting up possibly for K's IMM World Championship victory yeah I think everyone knows my strategy at no point even trying to say I'm going to do anything else but I'm going to try and turn it into a bike race and then we'll see who's the strongest on the run now it was up to cam Worth to really put the hammer down and get after that death we're looking at one of the favorites for this race is a professional cyclist and he's on one of the biggest and most successful professional teams that we've ever seen in procycling and he's here racing the Iron Man World Championship yeah I mean I'm incredibly privileged to be on you know member of the anyos grenes cycling team but I don't there to make up the numbers uh when I'm available you know the team will send me to some of the biggest races not like when I show up oh Cameron you're just a triathlete so you just do this stuff you know you're you're part of the team and and I'm expected to perform um and uh expected to do my job I love being surrounded by top people in every single aspect of my life I love seeing people achieve and I you know try and learn le as much as I can from that to feed my own success this year has been much more like we pictured you know getting called into races a bit less um but bigger races I mean I I was doing a lot of smaller races just cuz we were short on numbers whereas now it's more okay we when we need you for a really important race that's when we'll call you I'm sort of there to to let the big stars not have their routines uh interrupted and I'm very happy having my routine interrupted to go and do par r on Easter Sundays when I realized he was on a totally different level as a professional cyclist and a triathlete was 2 years ago and the per Ru there were two favorites Matthew Vanderpool and Watt van out and his job was to set the pace at the front into the most iconic section of that race that every every body knows it's the toughest part it's when it happens it's when the race is split it's where the Champions are made he was at the front going as hard as he could and those two favorites weren't even there so we're talking about the people that are like man these two guys maybe the best sports ever seen cam was in the front going as hard as he could and they couldn't keep up and that is crazy and not only did he finish the race the next year he he did the same thing wasn't quite as far up front but was able to help his team as much as he could finish the race dude went for a run he went for a run I'm going to go run a half marathon at a pace that most people couldn't do fresh and people thought it was like you know him showing off or whatever but no he's just like what is going to prepare me best for this world championship down the road and it's me knowing what my legs feel like after the hardest bike ride that I could possibly think of I mean nobody's ever done that before and it's amazing and hilarious and it's spectacular and cam Worf from Australia is absolutely annihilating this cam Worf true expert Cal Under Pressure Cameron morph he hits the gas straight away he's doing 50k an hour and if you want to kind of stay in touch well you're going to have to push really hard too it's crazy to think like in the first 45 minutes you're already making up like 25 spots or something like that which is pretty cool I like thought about the whole time on the bike was even when I heard the gap for Sam going out was just try to get there try to get there you know recover a little here smash this climb Go bomb down the descend as hard as you can um do everything try to get back to the front and try and give yourself a chance to to win this thing camworth now on the back part of the race was fast enough to move all the way through 24 people to get off the bike in the top five next athlete coming in right now is camw from Australia what a great ride that he had yeah and he looks really smooth too W he does look focused you can see in his eyes he's not cracked you know what it feels like when you get off the bike and you you've spent too many chips as they say can cam Worf uh hold on again no one would ever uh pick him as the strongest runner in the field but uh he's done an incredible amount of work if there's anyone who knows how to dig deep when it counts and is willing to suffer more than anyone it's cam it's in his DNA it's what he lives for and 40 years old this guy is still pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sport um I did a good solid bike ride but knowing that i' also have to run fast so the confidence is still there that he was carrying around during race week gets off the bike in the top five and now accelerates off for a fast start to the run but a sore stomach he took on a lot of water in the swim and now that would be painful four and now losing a little bit of time to the runners up front that would be Sam ladow laying down one of the fastest marathons that he's ever done and Patrick Langer absolutely thrashing it through the field and cam Worf now failing a little bit and slowing up started the Run quite well thinking that I was still in a fight for you know look like Sam was gone but a Podium and top five and uh for that 15K hly believed that I had a chance to run down you know at least Magnus and Rudy I thought they'd start to struggle and I thought I could hang in there and maybe when Patrick came past I try and respond and help Pace me up there they were all the things I was thinking about until the second that I literally had no choice but to on if everything dropped my pants and B off the course it was um it's amazing how quickly things can change he could have stepped off the course of any time on the run but not cam he is just an incredible athlete he wants to get himself across that finish line and finish something that he started even after you know the first stop I had I tried to chase down Patrick again but it was a bit of a fruitless task you know the my body yeah made my mind I desperately wanted to but it just wasn't wasn't working and uh it just sort of went downhill from there that's never happened before so just was what it was and it's 14th Place for Australian Cameron worth I'm still hanging in there by the by my fingertips to sort of potentially be part of that top rotation but if I genuinely want to actually race those guys in the final 20K of of the marathon I got to make some changes and um and just basically do the small details much better it's not what he expected but his character and the way that he carries himself was uh true to can he's going to hold his head high and he'll be back for another crack at the world crown\n"
