Review - Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enit's about time David no I don't always talk about myself in the third person anyway guys how are you David the Franco here from David the franco.com and I am finally here to review the Sennheiser MK 600 shotgun microphone which I'm actually using right now so this entire video is an excellent audio example of how this sounds for a person like myself with a fairly Medi to large sized office with a lot of Reverb but I got to tell you this microphone helps a lot with Reverb at least when compared to my road video mic Pro it just makes a world of a difference and I'm very happy with that aspect uh but I'll talk about that more in a bit okay so going into this review I just want to make something very clear right off the bat I am not an audio expert by any means I don't know that much about microphones I simply appreciate a good mic and I appreciate good quality audio so there's that it's out of the way I'm not an audio file I'm using this as your everyday content creator if you want to put it that way so anyway getting into the review itself I'm going to go through a list of things that I think stood out about this microphone and then finally at the very end I will give you my purchasing decision which of course is going to vary from user to user all right so first up I got to say this the Sennheiser MK 600 shotgun microphone is an an excellent quality microphone it's not only very well built but it looks good as well now that may not be important to some people but I appreciate a well-designed product and Sennheiser does not disappoint in this department and by the way yes this is a shotgun microphone I know that's kind of obvious but for those not aware and again I'm not an audio expert but I do know the basics shotgun microphones are intended for your subjects to be directly in front of the microphone for example again me I'm right here directly in front of the mic and it does an excellent job of picking up my audio but if for instance I was over there or over there then it would not be good for that kind of usage and by the way this microphone does have a switchable low cut filter if that's important to you so one huge Pro that I like about this microphone Over the Road video mic Pro is that it uses a standard ablea battery and that single battery gives you 50 hours of battery life not only is that more convenient for a user like myself who hates dealing with 9V batteries but it's also a nice Money Saver and time saer in the process because guys you're getting 150 hours of battery life not only is that a lot of hours but that's a lot of video but even with that said if you do not prefer to use a ablea battery you can use phantom power instead which I think most professionals prefer prefer and finally I should have mentioned this earlier but the MK 600 includes in the Box a foam windshield shock mount and even a carrying case which I think is a nice bonus okay so before we get into quality let me make this very important note this microphone requires an XLR cable the only reason I put a heavy emphasis on that is because I'm not used to using microphones that require an XLR cable so I thought it was worth mentioning so let's talk about the quality how is the audio quality well you tell me I've been using it this entire time but in my opinion the quality is just amazing again not only is it much better than my road video mic Pro but it does an excellent job at filtering out the background audio again a lot of Reverb is in this office and yes I realize that's my fault I don't have foam on the walls like I should and my office is still under construction months later but believe me that's going to change dramatically once the holidays are over more on that in a future video but I will say for what it is the MK 600 does a phenomenal job at not only capturing my voice but also canceling background audio however and this is a big however this is the only reason I will not continue to use this mic on a dele basis and I hate to say that because this mic is so damn good and that's the fact that this microphone requires an external amp for an adequate experience now what does this mean well basically if if you're not looking to get background hiss in your audio like I currently am at the moment then you're going to need an amp otherwise you're stuck with background hiss and yes you can do some audio editing and post-production which I've tried in phica Pro 10 it does an okay job but even then it still does not sound natural so trust me when I say you're best off just using an external amp but for me I'm just not going to go through that trouble I prefer to use the microphone directly into the camera and I'm okay with that I don't want to have to worry about getting more audio equipment than making my rig all complicated because I'm a very simple content creator I'm not into the professional style reviews I'm just into me being myself and talking about products on camera like this and showing the occasional b-roll but let me make this clear this microphone is just downright amazing and not only build quality and audio quality and I think it is worth the high price tag of $329 especially if you're not like me and you actually know what you're doing in terms of audio production which in other words means you most likely have an external amp then in that case go for this microphone I can definitely recommend it again $329 on Amazon as of this video and huge thanks to Sennheiser for making this video possible and for your patience I know it's been a couple months but this holiday season has just been crazy I'm trying to get all these videos out before Christmas day so guys thank you so much for your support and I will see you in my next video peaceit's about time David no I don't always talk about myself in the third person anyway guys how are you David the Franco here from David the franco.com and I am finally
