Surface Pro (2017) - What's Changed!

A Hands-On Look at the New Surface Pro: What's Behind the Changes?

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with Microsoft's latest Surface Pro, and I was eager to see what new features and improvements this updated model had to offer. As a huge fan of the original Surface laptop, I was excited to get started on my review.

Upon first glance, however, it didn't take long for me to notice that the new Surface Pro looked remarkably similar to its predecessor. While this may seem like a minor detail, it actually turned out to be a deliberate design choice made by Microsoft. The company aimed to make subtle changes that would overall enhance the device without drawing attention away from its sleek and modern appearance.

One of the first things I noticed was the inside vents on the new Surface Pro, which had been painted to match the rest of the device. These small details may seem insignificant at first, but they actually help to create a more seamless look and feel. The vents are now less noticeable, thanks to this clever design choice.

Another change that caught my attention was the slight rounding of the device's edges. This modernized touch adds a bit of personality to an otherwise sleek and streamlined design. Additionally, the hinge on the new Surface Pro retracts back 15 percent instead of the original 30 percent. This adjustment makes drawing and writing on the device feel more natural and sturdy.

One of the most impressive changes I noticed was the updated front camera. Microsoft had even gone so far as to color it in to match the front glass, creating a seamless look that's almost impossible to notice at first glance. The end result is a device that looks incredibly cohesive and polished.

As I spent more time with the new Surface Pro, I began to appreciate the little details that make this updated model truly special. From its subtle design changes to its thoughtful attention to detail, it's clear that Microsoft has put a lot of care into crafting a device that feels both modern and professional. And as someone who already loves the original Surface laptop, I was thrilled to see just how much had changed.

But what really stood out to me was the level of expertise displayed by the representative from Microsoft. When I asked him about the changes he'd made, he launched into a detailed explanation of each and every one, highlighting just how much thought had gone into crafting this updated model. His passion for the product was evident, and it only added to my enthusiasm for the new Surface Pro.

In short, the new Surface Pro is an impressive device that's full of little details that make it feel both modern and professional. From its subtle design changes to its thoughtful attention to detail, it's clear that Microsoft has put a lot of care into crafting a device that feels truly special.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Microsoft invited me to demosome of the new Surface computersthat have recently launched, and while I did already kinda do a videoon the Surface laptop, which I kinda love the design of,you can check that video out below,I haven't yet had any timewith the new Surface Pro.So this seemed like a good chance to seewhat was up with it,what's new, et cetera.I went up to it though, and it just kinda looks the same,so I eventually asked a rep thereto let me know what are the differencesbetween this new SurfacePro and the last one,and it turns out there's a lot.(upbeat music)Microsoft this time around was obsessedwith making subtle changesthat overall made a big difference, from little things like the inside ventsthat you can't even really see that easilybeing painted to matchthe rest of the device, and make them less noticeable, and the edges of the deviceare now rounded slightlyto give it a little bitmore of a modern look.So the fact that thehinge now retracts backto 15 percent instead of 30 percent, which makes for drawing on itfeel a lot more naturaland a lot more sturdy. They even colored the front camerasto make them blend inmore with the front glass. After tellin' me all that, the rep then kinda smirked a littleand said \"On the inside though,\"we basically started from scratch.\"So besides the usualupgrade to the processorwhich is now a Kaby Lakeseventh gen Intel version, they also rearranged everything insideand added a lot more copper, he tells me.The point of the copper is thatit helps cool the device a lotbetter than the last model. So much so that the i5models are actually fanless, while the i7 models have a fanbut I'm told it turns onmuch less often than before.Another part of the internal redesignis something I think alot of Surface Pro fanswill appreciate, and that's thanks to a much smaller SSD,they're able to put ina much bigger battery. The battery's now 45 watt hours in sizeversus the 39 watt hours from the Pro 4,and that combined withthe more power-efficientKaby Lake processor translates toan advertised battery lifethat's four hours morethan the previous model, bringing it to 13 and a half hours. The extra room inside alsomeans that for the first time,Microsoft is going to offer an LTE model. Now I personally don't use LTE on laptops'cause I'd rather just tether to my phone, but I'm sure there's alot of people out therethat love the idea of having itjust built into the computerand not having to worry about it.Beyond the laptop, tablet,I don't know what we're callingthese things nowadays anymore, there's also been someupgrade to the accessories. The keyboard now sportsthe Alcantara fabricto help it match the new Surface laptopand has the same colors.Besides the fabric and color, the keys now have a bitmore travel to them, and are backwards compatible to workon the old Surface Pro 4 as well.In addition to the new Surface type cover, they also launchedmatching pens alongside it.And this new and improved penisn't just available in pretty colors, they're, according to Microsoft, the fastest pens in the world. The new pen has increased thesensitivity points to 4,096,and has quote unquote no perceivedlag when writing with it.They also added theability to tilt the pen, which allows you to use the side of itfor shading with a pencil, for example,a feature that is seenin much more professional Wacom solutions. The new Surface Pro startsat 799 for the Core Mwith four gigs of RAM, Intel 615 GPU,and 128 gigs of storage. You can get the i5 modelwith the same storage and RAMbut the faster 620 GPU for 1,000,and double the RAM and storage to 1,299.The i7 models all havethe Iris Plus 640 GPUbut come in 8 gigs of RAMwith a 256 gigabyte SSD for 1,600 dollars,16 gigs of RAM and a 512 SSD for 2,200,and a top model with thesame specs as the lastbut a terabyte SSD for 2,700.Unfortunately none of these prices includethe type cover or the pen, which will cost you 160 and100 dollars, respectively. There you guys, a quick rundown of the major featuresthat make the Surface Pro differentfrom the Surface Pro 4,the biggest one of coursebeing that battery life, which I'm sure a lot ofpeople are excited about, but Microsoft, by the way, was kind enoughto give me one of these to test, soplease let me know in the comments belowif you guys would like a full review. Also, what things youmight wanna see in a video, whether it's a review or acompletely different videoon the Surface Pro, let meknow in the comments below.Always love to hear from you guys. And if you liked thisvideo, please thumbs-up itor share it, it is greatly appreciated, and if you want more videos like this, please check out my channel, the link is around here somewhere, and if you like what you see there, please subscribe. As always though, thanks for watching.(upbeat music)\n"
