ILife V8S Review - $250 Robot Vacuum That Can Also Mop
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enSo I am here with my second roboticvacuum cleaner review no it's notsomething that I normally look at in thechannel but I life reached out to me andasked me if I'd like to review this ofcourse I did say yes as you can see I'vegot the unit here with me so it's asmart vacuum cleaner and the sense thatit doesn't have the mapping so it's notone of those more advanced expensivemodels but it has its own system so it'sgot a gyro the sensors and it will in away map out and know where it is atleast you can set it to do a moreroutine cleaning pattern and not thejust typical automatic going all overthe place so a zigzag mode it's got edgecleaning modes it also has a mop so youcan mop floors with this as well so hereyou have the washable mop and it'scontainer there you need to fill withwater so you replace this with thetypical dustbin if you're not justvacuuming see you can't unfortunatelyvacuum and dust at the same time it'seither one or the other you need todecide on what you're doing this ofcourse is the charging pad here so thisis where it dachshund automatically willdock onto this to charge and we've got afilter a remote so this is the remoteyou can control it with this so itdoesn't have an application it's notthat advanced it doesn't connect up viawireless or anything like that here isthe power plug the adapter they'reEuropean all right here we just haveanother spare mop so if you've got onein the wash you can just add this oneand put this one on it of course sounder the vacuum you'll find fourbrushes there so two you need to use nowand then a spare set as well as sometriple-a batteries for the remote and acleaning tool so sitting it up is quiteeasy all we need to do is just clip onhere the brushes so they're color-codedone for the left one for the right suityou have to replace these eventuallythey will wear out the brushes so on theleft and the right here we have fullsensors this is to of course stop itfrom falling down stairs it will detectthat and stop itself from doing that 360degree front wheel the two chargingconnector pins there now you notice thatthe intake on this one is differentit's brushless so it doesn't have asweeper brush function it literally justsucks and that is it this is both a proand a con now why is it a con wellobviously it's not going to be as goodon carpets because it's not gonna beable to brush up things andsweep things off carpets and mats andeven hard floors as well as look about asweep up things as good and the pro ofthis of course is it's not going to gettangled up and caught up with here soyou don't have to keep cleaning it andit also won't hopefully suck up cablesand get cables stuck right in it and thetwo wheels they've got a nice treadpattern on here it's a very soft rubberso this won't have any problems withtraction it shouldn't slip and should beable to climb up obstacles of acentimeter so without any problems andthey are spring-loaded of course so justlike other vacuums the weight of thevacuum will then push that right down sowe'll have contact with where it'ssucking and of course and vacuuming soremoving the dust button is very easyyou simply need to just press down hereand the slots out now I was wrong aboutthe filter it's actually not a washablefilter here so you could see that as abit of a con unless it's going to havegood filtering performance becausenormally the washable ones you'll findthat they only remove about 95% of dustparticles and things there and that'squite easy to access you simply justlift this up and then you can replacethat filter and you can of course takeout the other filter parts there thisalso is removablechange that out this you can wash so youcannot wash the dustbin and there's abig reason behind this because it doesactually house the motor in there so ifyou submerge that in water you will ofcourse kill the motor and to empty thedust is a couple of magnets holding thisflap here just pull that open and youcan tip out all the dust that's insidethere so on the right of the v8 s wehave a power switch and even a DC inthere for charging if you weren't goingto be using that dock along the fronthere your typical bump sensor so thishas a nice soft rubber along here and ifit does bump into things it will detectthat and reverse backthere's also sensors located in here toto help with obstacle avoidance soquickly run over the controls it's verystraightforward so you've got start andpause your cleaning right here you havethis exact cleaning option you've gotreturn to home which is your doctorcharge this is there for the timer setup so you've got the time right now Ineed to set that time up and it veryeasy to simply need to hold the buttondown and then it with the arrow keys upand down go through and set your timeand this is the spot cleaning mode nowthe LED on the top there will tell youthe day so you can schedule cleaning youcan have it going every day at a certaintime and will also indicate yourremaining battery life - and then theremote is really the same kind of thingso you've got your different cleaningmodes you've got your edge cleaning yourspot cleaning mode your zigzag cleaningyou've got the control to start andpause return home to charge and this isfor controlling it if you wanted tomanually control the vacuum so you canangle it and move it around and directit towards where for example you've gotsomething spilt on the ground then youcan do that very basic here andstraightforward so when you switch overto mopping the one of the big cons hereis it's not going to be able to vacuumand mop at the same time like some otherrobot vacuum cleaners so you simply needto just lift this up add your water here300 milliliters so now for theperformance test - I'm taking 60 gramsof rice and noodles and I'm gonna seehow much each of the vacuum cleanershere will collect with their spot cleanup mode starting out now with the I livev8s with the spot cleanup mode let's seehow much of the 60 grams it will pickout so you can see it's flicking a lot awave due to the brushes of coursethere's something it happens on allvacuumsall right so it's finished it thinksit's done the job there's quite a bitleft but let's measure now and see howmuch it collected so I managed tocollect 45 grams another Robo rockversion to spot cleanup modeokay so that's a real surprise they lookat how much it lifts it lifts a littleless here but let's measure it now andsee how that compares to the v.a.t.sokay so that one managed to pick up 52grams more or less you could add maybeanother half a gram because of some ofits built out so that was a difficulttest for any robotic vacuum cleanerbecause they're brushes they tend toflick around things like rice andnoodles that's why I tested it sothey're more expensive Robo rock version2 which retails for about 500 US managedto collect 52 grams out of the 60 so itdid an excellent job they're really goodnot quite as good as I thought it couldhave done because it stops as you see inthe middle and it didn't actually finishcollecting up everything now the morebudget orientated v8s from iLife thatonly picked up 45 grams of the 60 but Istill feel for half the price that itdid a reasonably good job consideringthat this is a very difficult test andit does have those two brushes at thefront so like all robotic the vacuumcleaners that when it gets to an edgefor example a staircase then it willstop itselfso because it doesn't have the brush inthe middle that means it's not so greatat carpets at sweeping off bits of dirtand stuff but it does save you from theproblem of having threads and pieces ofhair getting stuck in the brush causingyou to have to clean it about once aweek and like any robotic vacuum thatcertain items like rugs for example thathave an edge to them may cause the robotvacuum to get stuck now when it comes tothe cleaning mode the automatic modethat you'll normally use the scheduledmode it's not very intelligent but atfirst you think oh it's gonna planthings out it will go around the edgesfirst but then what happens it willcross over half of the room then it willactually double back on where it'salready been so it's not the smartestand nowhere near as good of course asthe robotic vacuum cleaners that can mapout rooms and know exactly where theyare and where they have been so justlike my show me the mopping functioningon these robotic vacuum cleaners is notreally that great as soon as you put thewater in you will start to see somedrops coming out so there's three tinylittle droplet holes there whether itwill slowly let the water out and itjust like the vacuuming mode will gorandomly over the floor so it doesn'tpick up any stubborn stains so if youhave dried on coffee and then it's notgoing to be able to lift or remove thatfor example and it does a very light jobso it's not wonderful the mopping modebut you do see a little bit of dirt thatit does pick up so it is something atleast but it cannot vacuum at the sametime and more so once the vacuum hasfinished its cleanup it will simplyreturn home to dock and recharge itselfagainst my shower I did a recently goodjob I feel not quite as good but themain thing is here this costs half theprice of that one now it doesn't havethis super smart feature so there's nowireless notifications you can't controlit remotely you can't be at work and getit to clean but of course you can put onthe schedule so you have a scheduledtime for it to run and it's very easy toset up it's not hard at all the controlsare very basic with the remote butthat's really all you need and theperformance in general with cleaningtheir corners okay will sometimes misssome areas and I feel - because itdoesn't have the main brush in themiddle which is sweeping and scrapingstuff off the floor a little it's notgoing to be quite as good at removingmore stubborn stack-on but to do it andcarpets of course this is not going tothat great however it's also a bit of apro too as well because it's not goingto get tangled up with here you don'thave to do any maintenance on a metalbrush that's one thing less to maintainnow the container the dust collection750 milliliters that is pretty good notbad at all that's a really good capacitythat's a lot more than my expensivesharmi means I don't have to empty it sofrequent there and the mopping featureso the mopping feature again like myshow me and that's not good really ifyou've got something like stuck on driedcoffee that you spilt three days ago youjust didn't have time to clean it upthen it will pass over it and it'sliterally only gonna remove a tinyfraction of that stainless so you stillhave to manually mop your house I feelthey're not there I hope one day thatthey will apply pressure with the mops Ihope you will have one day an orbitalsystem of mopping and scrubbing at thesame time that'll be great but we're notthere yet and definitely not at thisprice of about two hundred fifty usthere were of things there's well okaythe noise 68 this valves it's prettyloud working time of 100 minutes that'sgood and also the charge time is more orless typical so it's between about 3 to4 hours it's nothing amazing it's not asuper fast charge of it it's only goingto be operating once during the daynormally and if you've got a massivehouse then there is going to be thatlarge gap where it has to go back andcharge and then continue so you do haveto really factor that end so it's ahundred minutes going to be enough foryour house I feel it should be for mostplaces at least in most areas that thiswill be working so all in all for theprice I do feel that the v8 7 is a goodvacuum it's not perfect for carpets andit's not as fast and as efficient as themapping ones but overall very decentthank you so much for watching this avacuum review if you'd like to see morevacuum reviews perhaps let me know I canget in touch with manufacturers thatthey may possibly see me a review unitso I can check out more and I hope youlike the review and I do hope to catchyou back in the channel bye for now\n"
