Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Unboxing & Hands-On Review

have here because it hasa better screen on it and better specsso the screen is 5.99 inches it's thatnow popular 2017 trend which is an 18 by9 aspect ratio screen with a resolutionof 1080 by 2160 now the speak of it isso similar to the redmi note 4 that Ireviewed it has a snapdragon 6 to 5 it'sa shame that they did not go with aSnapdragon 630 that's a bit of a mistakebecause they have used that chipset somany times now but it is very efficientespecially when it is paired up with a4000 and milliamp hour battery it has afull unibody housing fingerprint readeron the rear so I'm gonna get this oneunboxed here we'll go through the designof it just check out out the firstimpressions it should have meet you or I900 years well that's based on Android 7and then of course at the end of thisvideo here I will give you my firstimpressions of the redmi 5 plus so itshould be factory sealed it's in thissuper bubble wrap that tends to protectthe phone really wellEU power adapter that they included theseller and yes this does still have thefactory wrap on there so they've used ared star box now a little bit differentwe normally see just a plain white boxand if you read Chinese well there's allthe band's the specs of this I'm not toosure this is gonna have LTE band 20 Idon't think it will okay we'll see whatwe get in the box it'll just be theusual hopefully they haven't included aquick charge style charger and not justa standard one ok so it looks like we'vegot an instruction manual here oh noit's actually a case that's one of thosesoft rubber style ones this one is inblack and that in fact looks exactly thesame material that style of it just likewhat I had with the note 3 so we havethe phone of course in black and thislooks to be an instruction manual sothisis all in Chinese because this is theChinese version I have imported and thisalso shows you the layout of that sometres are either 2 nano Sims or yourmicroSD card and nano SIM the cable thisis micro USB 2 which is a littledisappointing I feel that this late inthe year 2017 that this should be a typeC cable so that's a another letdownthere now more disappointing news herethat the charger is not a quick charge3:1 it's the standard charger here so 5volts 2 amps they should have includedone that supports Qualcomm quick charge3 and that would be rated then 2 12volts and lastly a SIM tray tool so itweighs in at 181 grams the redmi 5 plusis 8.1 millimeters thickthat's without the camera bump with thebump there then that comes up to eightpoint nine millimeters exactly sostarting with the top where we have anIR transmitter 3.5 millimeter headphonejack and a secondary Michael on the topthe camera which is 12 megapixels withan F 2.2 aperture dual tone LED flashand a rare fingerprint reader now thehousing itself does show thefingerprints and that's showing upalready and I've only just been touchingit for a few minutes and you can see theedges are curved now the material at thetop it feels to me like it could beplastic or they are using a differenttype of alloy but you can see that thereis a difference in that tone there ofthe black with the top there the stripwhich to me I am gonna say it's plasticbut I'm not 100% sure it is but it couldbe for the antenna of reception in thereso it's not a complete whole unibodymaybe by the looks of it now down thebottom we have that micro USB 2 portwhich has said I would have liked themto have at least used type C I meanother budget manufacturers that areselling phones in this price rangethey're using type C and then of coursewe had the loudspeaker and themicrophone and again this strip there atthe bottom on the right side metalbuttons now they do feel good they donot rattle around they're not loose oranything like that and you can see thatwe do have a plastic trim that holds theGreen into the rear body and the glassit is 2.5 days does have curved edgesthe symmetry is metal reinforced it doeshave this outer plastic surround and youcan see there we can fit either 2 nanoSims or a micro SD card and nano sim upthe top of your ambient light sensorproximity sensor earpiece and then afront facing five megapixel camera withF 2.2 aperture just like the rear cameravery quick look at the phone in the casejust before I power it on so you can seethe case will protect the camera it'sjust high enough so the lens should notbe touching when you put it down on atable and it also protects the buttonsthere on the right side and gives thephone of course a lot more grip to it itdoesn't feel as slippery in this but nota bad case at all I mean it's relativelycheap it's not a premium case certainlynot there and I roll the build off thephone in hand feels nice because ofthose curved edges and for the price thequality is quite decent the only thingthat bothers me a little bit is the topstrips there I would have liked them tohave maybe made that old unibody and notshow that kind of difference there withthe top but other than that I think it'sfine oh yeah and types you put on thebottom we should have really had a typesimportant so the first boot took alittle while approximately 25 seconds orso and first thing you notice is okaythose bezels left and right they're notreally that slim at or and I thoughtthat was kind of the idea of the 18 by 9aspect ratio to narrow things down soyou can get longer screens slimmerbezels on the side and yes we do loseHardware navigation keys which isanother cotton there because I preferHardware navigation keys over softwarebut of course now with 18 by 9 screenseveryone seems to use the software keyswith that to gain and make use of thatextra screen real estate we've got thereso the bezels it's actually just measurethese because they look a little bitlong-term a little bit big about 2.5millimeters as the size of those bezelsthere and you can see some colorshifting a little there with the screenon an angle thereIPS but that's to be expectedso Asian languages only or Englishbecause this is the Chinese version youhave to wait for the global release orthe global ROM and then flash that lateron so I'll quickly go through this setup now you can see I can add afingerprint here but look at the screenjust for a second again it's a got quitea cool white calibration to it I'm nottoo sure I like the out-of-the-boxcalibration here and you can see righton the edge there - I don't know ifthat's coming out on camera but thecolors are shifting quite a bit there soI'm going to add my finger here we'llsee how this goes that normally on theother readme devices that I havereviewed this goes really quick andtheir fingerprint readers work well notlike the doogee mix - that I've reviewedrecently they had quite a badfingerprint reader it took me quite afew attempts to get out to works oksetup is complete there now and thatscreen looks a little bit better herenow not too bad so I'm gonna lock itplace my finger on there unlock Wow okaythat is fast just as fast as the redminote 4 very good there so no complaintswith that unlock speed this is analways-onfingerprint reader that it has on therear so a few technical details here forthose that like to know this kind ofinformation I just brought up thatengineering menu so you can see that thefront camera and the rear camera ROV sothat's Omni vision sensors they areusing and this particular one that Ihave that could change maybe later onthey use other sensors I washalf-expecting Samsung or Sony so alittle disappointing there but I meanthey don't actually make too bad asensors either so I'll test them outlater on this video as well and there'salso details there with the LCD panel soif you want to check that out thefingerprint reader sensor on the rear isgood X and we're using hynek's 4gigabytes of RAM and a Hynix e MMCso my readme 5 plus here is runningAndroid a 7.1.2 and it is the securitypatch level from October but there is afirmware update that's just come out andit's me a 9.0 stable I think the newestversion is 9.1 so I'll probably have anupdate for that and you also getapproximately 53half gigabytes of free available storageon this model of course you can expandupon that with a microSD card and thisis the latest over-the-air update I haveit's 1.4 gigabytes so quite a largedownload optimizer system performanceand fixes bugs so I'll get thisdownloaded and installed straight awayso this is probably the reason why thephone screen looks a little bit off it'susing that optimized contrast accordingto the available light it would adjustit automatically and I'm not really fondof this in me o a9 but of course I'mgoing to set this now just to thestandard now when I have to sit to thestandard to me the screen now looks alot better but we still are getting alittle bit of that color shifting therebut that's not really too much of anissue because I tend to look at myscreen straight on anyway now because Ihave the Chinese version you're going toget a lot of this on here so be aware ifyou are going to be importing one thatdoes not have a global ROM expect a lotof bloatware now most of the scrap onhere you can uninstall it which is atleast something you can get rid of agood 95% of it at least so just the oneloudspeaker on the bottom it does notuse the earpiece as a secondaryloudspeaker which I feel maybe theyshould have done that but maybe they'resaving that for the premium mobiles butlet's have a listen now to that bottomspeaker I find it sounds ok it doesn'treally have that much bass at all andthe volume well it could be a little bitlouder toso so far in my initial hands-on heretesting with the little time I've hadwith that the UI seems fast it seemssmooth touch accuracy is also quite goodand I haven't noticed any problems orhiccups or seen any UI stutters aSnapdragon 65 with 4 gigabytes of RAMand running me uo9 I feel is smoothenough and fast enough for most peoplequick look at the camera so it's now andusing that updated me UI 9 camera appwhich has just a few little tweaks to itso this is the manual camera mode andwe've only got white balance in ISOthat's it no shutter controls nothingelse on here no exposure which is alittle bit of a shame here so this isdefinitely not going to be I feel acamera powerhouse naught to be reallyexpected as a budget mobile phone - inthis kind of price group now we've gotall your standard modes there insettings that is all prettyself-explanatory and when we have a lookhere under the settings of the camerayou'll see here that the video recordingquality does go all the way up to 4kwhich is great and we can also selectthe focus mode to be continual autofocus or tap if it does have that verycommon focus breathing issue that a lotof the Xiaomi phones tend to have butanyway let's have a look at some samplestaken on the redmi v plus so i'll startout with shooting a video here thisisn't 4k the maximum sitting you getwhich is good to see in a budget mobilephone and the focus is set to thecontinual autofocus which is the defaultmode but i have noticed there's quite abit of that focus breathing you can seejust then now this is something that'svery common with xiaomi they can't seemto solve this problem they always havethis focus breathing issue or most oftheir mid-range and budget mobile phonesjust are not good to see a bit of anaverage day here so not perfectconditions winter has finally arrivedhere in dinya let's check out the focusokay seems to work alright but I wouldstick to the tap to focus because thatpulsing in and out is really kind ofruining the video isn't it so let's havea look at the front-facing camera nownow this is a sample of the front-facingcamera so it's 5 megapixels if 2.2aperture I think it is or if 2.0 and thequality of it looks reasonably good notbad for this type of mobile phone youcannot change any of this seating sosettings completely disabled not eventhere or present on this currentfirmware when trying to change theresolution anything like that so youdon't have those options idea the camerato me on the front looks quite goodso there we go that's the unboxing andmy first impressions of the mobile wellit seems okay it just leaves a littlebit to be desired really I feel thatthey could have done a few differentthings here they could have added atypes he put on the bottom they couldhave put a front-facing loudspeaker aswell would have been good and maybe usethe Snapdragon 630 but apart from thatit really is a rid me Note 4 just with atwo by one aspect ratio screen so I meanthere's various positives here too withit I mean the performance seems goodbetter life I know is gonna be reallygood because the Snapdragon 65 with afour thousand milliamp hour batteryshould be great I mean we're looking athopefully about 10 hours screen on timeif not a lot more than that because Iremember I got close to 14 I think itwas continuous screen on time whether itmean Note 4 so the build is good thecamera on the rear is a littledisappointing the video quality becauseof the focus problem it seems to I hadthat focus breathing issue which is verycommon on the Xiaomi mobile phones itseems they can never get that right andfix that for once fingerprint readerunlocks super quick and fast look at theJill sermon got the four gigabytes ofRAM now price point at the moment thisis selling for around about 230 u.s. atthe time of this video here which meansit's more expensive than the redmi note4 which I feel it should probably go forunless of course you must have an 18 by9 aspect ratio screen something it looksa little bit more modern but we stillhas as you can see bezels left and rightthereour present and it is a shame to that wekind of lose this real estate at thebottom here so no more hardwarenavigation keys it's all just softwarethere
