**The Meta Threads Debacle: A Reflection of the Tech Industry's Turmoil**

It appears that the Instagram account and Threads app are closely tied, as users who create an Instagram account can transfer their followers and other data to Threads. This suggests that Threads is not a completely separate entity from Instagram, but rather an extension of the same platform with a slightly different interface. The logo for Threads has also been the subject of much speculation, with some people believing it depicts Homer Simpson's hair or three sixes. Despite this, the true nature and meaning behind the logo remain unclear.

The development of Threads seems to have been a labor-intensive process, with reports suggesting that the team working on the project was heavily influenced by Twitter's approach to social media. However, with Elon Musk's recent departure from Twitter, it has become clear that the company's leadership is facing significant challenges. Musk famously fired many employees and claimed they were not worth their salaries, only to later backpedal and offer severance packages to those who had left the company. This incident has likely contributed to Meta's growing unease about its own position in the tech industry.

In a surprising move, Meta is now seeking to capitalize on the struggles of other major tech companies, including Apple and Google. These companies have been criticized for their "walled gardens," which limit users' ability to access certain features or apps on other platforms. Meta is positioning itself as an alternative, with plans to allow users in the EU to download apps through Facebook. This move marks a significant shift in the company's strategy and could potentially establish it as a major player in the tech industry.

Despite these efforts, Meta is still facing criticism for its own handling of user data and its approach to social media platforms. The company has been accused of prioritizing profits over user experience, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among its users. In recent months, Reddit has also faced significant challenges, including a downgrade by its creditors and a decline in the popularity of certain features on its platform. These issues have led many users to abandon their favorite apps and platforms, leaving behind a trail of tributes and memes.

As we move forward into an uncertain future for social media and online platforms, it is clear that Meta is facing significant challenges. The company's recent decision to develop Threads marks a turning point in its approach to social media, but it remains to be seen whether this will ultimately prove successful. Meanwhile, Reddit continues to struggle with its own set of issues, including the decline of certain features and the lack of investment in its API.

**The Reddit API War: A Cautionary Tale**

Reddit's struggles with its API have been well-documented in recent months, as the company has faced criticism for its handling of user data and its approach to third-party developers. The situation has come to a head, with many users expressing their disappointment and frustration on social media. In response, Reddit has released a list of features that it will no longer support, effectively giving up on certain aspects of its platform.

This move has left many users feeling abandoned, as they are now forced to navigate the complexities of managing their own data and interactions on the platform. The lack of investment in Reddit's API has also led to concerns about the stability and security of the platform, as well as the ability of users to access certain features and functionality.

The Reddit API War is a cautionary tale for any company that relies heavily on user data and third-party developers. By failing to invest in its API and prioritize the needs of its users, Reddit has created a situation where it can no longer effectively manage its own platform. This may ultimately prove costly for the company, as users turn their attention to other platforms that better meet their needs.

**The Future of Social Media: A Turbulent Landscape**

As we move forward into an uncertain future for social media and online platforms, it is clear that the tech industry is facing significant challenges. From the struggles of Reddit and Twitter to the growing tensions between Meta and its rivals, there are few certainties in this rapidly changing landscape.

Despite these challenges, there are also opportunities for growth and innovation. The development of new technologies and platforms, such as Threads and other social media apps, has opened up new possibilities for users and creators alike. As we navigate the complexities of online platforms and user data, it is clear that the future of social media will be shaped by a range of factors, including technological advancements, changing user behaviors, and shifting societal attitudes.

Ultimately, the success or failure of Meta and other companies in this space will depend on their ability to adapt and innovate in response to these challenges. By prioritizing the needs of its users and investing in its platform, Meta may be able to establish itself as a major player in the tech industry. However, it remains to be seen whether this will ultimately prove successful, and what the future holds for social media and online platforms in the years to come.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enHello everybody welcome back to the L1 Show links with friends today is 7 11 and we're doing government and social media stories this day I almost got through that perfectly and then I almost said this week so oops sorry we won't be doing it all week July is quickly melting away but with high humidity it is yeah it's very warm I've heard it's worse in the EU it really smells bad like Canada I'm just not smoke but just that Canada smell in general that sticky maple syrup oh yeah I'm going there at the end of the month have you got your LTX tickets and uh it's not you know we don't just have sun and heat we also have lots of Storms and clouds and you know where they don't have as many clouds anymore clouds uh USS restrict China's access to cloud computing The Wall Street Journal reports this I don't understand it's like okay they can't buy the gpus they're going to rent Cloud space what's the big deal well it's a trade War yeah it's just anything they can do to slap each other if but if they're worried about them being able to just you know run some sort of like munition simulation or invent AI on it or whatever we would be able to monitor that if it's in our cloud uh no we're worried about them usurping our place as the reserve currency and lender to the world which they have expressly said that they are trying to do I think that probably explains it so it's not really about them making you know bad things without or watchful a lot because we could totally do that in a cloud it's more economic that PTSD when you're here because I don't have any inside I'm not on the inside here but that certainly seems like the most logical explanation from what I'm looking at here yeah we want to stay in control and the way you stay in control as you stay in control of the money and we've uh We've made some missteps with that during the last 50 years and uh the FTC is also taking aim not directly at China but I suspect there's going to be some Chinese impact here FTC finally proposes a ban on fake reviews this would be useful for the consumer though so I mean maybe that's okay I really I don't I don't Amazon could have solved this problem themselves but it's not in their economic interest to do so so I mean marketing is all built on fake reviews and fake metrics like well they pointed out some examples here and they didn't have a real tough time figuring it out and it was pretty obvious so you would think that with as much as Amazon knows about all of us yes they could pretty easily take care of this but I think in Amazon's mind when you see that big number next to the reviews you're like oh highly reviewed I'll Trust this one yeah that's not safe to do no I don't know if I trust any Amazon reviews I usually look for ones with photos now this is not all fake reviews we have a specific list of guidelines there's too many to read but you can check them out in the one tab that's a big long list and uh no review hijacking yeah this is this everything I read here seems like it's targeted at all the bad things that have been happening at Amazon for five years yeah and we've certainly seen all of this yeah I mean I've seen it personally in my own Amazon use not reading well I don't know any of this I don't know how normal people use Amazon it's a frustrating experience for me and I'm willing to tolerate a lot I just don't use Amazon as much as they used to and we've learned that the FC is going after Amazon for this and then last week they went after them for another what was last week's thing it was relatively small and everybody was saying when's the big one coming down we thought that you were going to go in there and you were going to really go after him and we're not seeing it and apparently that criticism came home and they've responded the holiday's over the FTC prepares quote unquote the big one a major lawsuit targeting Amazon's core businesses okay so this one is I mean it's not Amazon's look they're not going at their soul here but this is a very important thing to them which is the third party Sellers and how it treats them because the third-party sellers are the reason Amazon has everything in the universe but apparently Amazon not too nice to them no they're not that's why we don't put the kvms on Amazon it's just it's not worth the headache yeah but it's already a headache enough yeah it's really hard to have a dumb customer when you have something as complicated as KVM so sorry and unfortunately the sort here is a challenge because do we stick with U.S news all in one category first or do we go to China first to cover the first part of this story to miss out on this one I don't know how to win but we'll do the US part first the Pentagon has a strategic germanium stockpile but no gallium reserves somebody forgot to tell them in 1968 that we need more than just germanium to make our transistors why is that important stay tuned and uh this seems good I mean this is certainly a thing that you can't really protect yourself from but another National Database yeah it's going to get leaked inevitably I'm a little worried about that and then think about that that's just a Target rich list yeah it's like oh these are people that are considered important enough for me to attack I think I will the FBI has formed a National Database to prevent to track and prevent swatting because it has gotten out of control so this couple they interviewed and uh it is amazing there you go yeah he's getting swatted right there get in the Cuffs like over a hundred times get your house searched that's a Fourth Amendment violation and yet not and uh so this is supposedly gonna be like a interdepartmental database that they can check I feel like they won't you know I mean they're still good yeah they get a chance to use the SWAT gear it's like I'm not gonna go check the database because I want to go use my cool new military stuff I don't see this making any difference whatsoever just another way to have a database of people the cops is definitely going to view it as this is more paperwork and I don't care about paperwork and uh we've of course seen the rash of government agencies just simply hiring private companies to do their dirty work for them and it seems there's no end to this pit you can just keep scooping and keep getting more and more the FBI hired social media surveillance firm that labeled black lives matter organizers as quote unquote threat actors this is from the intercept and you dig into this and it's just like there's multiple layers of questions here like why is the FBI doing this and then why do they hire this company and then why were their instructions to this company basically to do that it's like there's a lot of layers to this onion and the big thing that is contested here is what they refer to as continuous monitoring did I sort that I sorted that incorrectly those of you following on the one tab will be confused here but continuous monitoring is a way that the FBI can go to Facebook for example any social media company and say hey I need as soon as this person makes a post any kind of post you're going to send it to me basically I get copied on everything that they do and you would think that well like can you do that well it turns out you can do it with a warrant but that shouldn't be enough because a warrant is not enough to surveil for example your phone so maybe not anymore the New Jersey Supreme Court says the cops need a wiretap to eavesdrop on your Facebook posts as you're making them in real time you can get a warrant to have Facebook give you what Facebook has currently but it was really like Facebook was just annoyed basically at having to continuously also resubmit data based on that data request but it turns out that's more like an eavesdrop than give us the data that you have much more difficult to get a wiretap too because if you get a wiretap you have to prove that you've exhausted all other forms of police work and you've still failed oh getting a wiretap is basically saying we suck it's sort of the opposite of what they've done in France but more on that later yeah that was the big story this week everyone was very upset about that one and the other big one this week when it came to social media and the government was that not only were they turning over all of your information in real time but they were just letting the government choose what goes on and gets blocked the Arts technical headline is Judge rules White House pressured social networks to quote unquote suppress Free Speech those are the judge's words and when you look at the kinds of like you look at some of the stuff in this case and it's like okay this makes sense but then you look at other stuff and it's like why did they this doesn't make any sense one why are they doing this under cover of darkness and two this is just some Rando this doesn't why did this get any attention at all this is crazy well I know why but I can't say because we'll get the D well that was my favorite question in the Q we did the Q a yesterday so to keep an eye out for that but the Q a someone was like do you really get demonetized that often and the answer is yes don't don't listen don't take our word for it on these these crazy articles you should go read these articles and then think through the words that are telling you like the person is telling you something and then they kind of are hinting at what to think but just step back and look at the larger picture and then look at the actual thing like the actual contents of it's like ah the eye of Sauron has noticed these things and it's like but that's just why do we need an eye of Sauron what do we need 20 of them and this is one of those uh topics and we have to we're gonna you're gonna have to tap dance around this headline because when it comes to this kind of stuff you're gonna get the D the top NIH official advised scientists to working on that Global situation thing that he really should use his personal email to evade Freedom of Information requests because there's a lot of really amazing but also horrifying quotes from this guy in here that's like oh this is going to be taken out of context and we really need to support this and not that idea and we don't really know where this thing came from but we're gonna say it was this and we're pretty sure it was this but we don't actually know and it's we think that people are too dumb to to hear that the best quote was at some point he becomes aware of it he's like oh by the way you're gonna have to need to send to the actual email address again because people are catching on to this but don't worry I'll delete everything I mean even if it was entirely innocuous that looks really bad and when it comes to that sort of misbehavior in the government it makes this so much more terrifying because this is coming very quickly New York fed successfully tested bespoke digital asset payment system even though the technology already exists that sounds like a lot more words to describe a central bank digital currency which is what it is now the uh what words did they use the thing you look for with this is that uh you know imagine the algorithm that we're living under to just you know we're just if we're not allowed to make YouTube videos that's not that big a deal if you're not allowed to shop for groceries that's a big deal but but also the algorithms deciding those things it's just like we can bring that level of micromanagement of individual transactions to individual trans like monetary transactions that doesn't seem like that's a future we should build and yet it looks like that's the future they're trying to build doesn't that make money non-fungible effectively well a fundsability in the terms of being banned I don't know if that counts or not I mean functionally yeah so it's like I've got a dollar and I want to spend a dollar on this thing and it's like oh the Central Bank digital thing says that transaction won't go through for because because algorithm it was fungible up until the moment that you came into ownership so it's just Schrodinger's fungibility uh New York City a while back we learned that their algorithms for surveillance and stuff like that they were a little on the uh can I say that word discriminatory side and uh so some laws went into effect the wheels of government turned slowly but we're finally seeing it New York City's anti-bias law for hiring algorithms goes into effect so this is TechCrunch you should read this oh I dropped a thing this is from from Kyle wiggers so like all the questions that I had he answered them so good job um the thing that I wondered though the one thing that wasn't covered is the Supreme Court ruling like with the Supreme Court ruling for discrimination stuff how that probably plays a role here as well I thought it was just colleges I don't I mean it could be all public you have the right to refuse to service to somebody what about oh you're talking about the other thing yeah yeah uh well I don't think I mean a business would have to announce that as a public policy and that they'd get destroyed right I don't know there have been some people I'm thinking about like the Reddit posts where uh somebody you know like the anti-work post and it's like I was gonna work there but it's like oh we need you to share the certain values with us and it's like that's not how that works and it's like is it I mean well I don't know if this affects that all you really have to do is let them look at your algorithm but if they find faults in it that follow that kind of thing I guess they could say you can't use it yeah well it was not let them look at the algorithm it was you have to have it audited so it's like now there's going to be a cottage industry of people doing auditing and that's just gonna be a mess it's gonna be like the drug industry where they're like oh this is fun yeah or like the I.T security audit industry where it's 50 snake oil and 50 yeah we probably should take that seriously yeah I don't have a lot of Hope for it but I guess uh I mean obviously the thing in my mind the thing to do is well let's just not let algorithms do that right yeah that's yeah why can't we just have a human like which I mean humans have bias too but we're focused on one little pixel of the overall horrific painting yeah do you need to hire people you're going to have to look at it I I don't think an algorithm really belongs there in the first place I agree with that but the people who are doing the hiring down yeah and in a beautiful Bluegrass we are number one now some other people started this effort before us but we're the first to socialize the roads Kentucky mandate's Tesla's charging plug for state-backed charging stations so EV Chargers going in in Kentucky you got to use Tesla's plug because Tesla's plug is royalty free those are taxpayer funded it's nice it's weird how you know we've got that for electric cars but we don't have that for RGB fans money for electric cars but we don't have money for this which seems more important it's about to be much harder for Rural alaskans to get their weather forecast wow his setup looks less elaborate than our YouTube Center yeah it's like our green screen it's low budget yeah it's a nice big screen he's got there uh yeah so whether important to alaskans yeah could certainly kill you in a heartbeat but they don't have any funding and they've been doing it for a couple years without funding which is probably why his room looks like that and now they're done sorry alaskans the National Weather Service needs to get their act together here as well their office in Louisville does anybody in you think anybody in Alaska's got a Tesla probably maybe somewhere in like the capital no cold batteries if you do it's ornamental or you put a keep in your car heated garage all winter engagement challenge do you have a Tesla in Alaska how's that working out do you know someone we found out in the twitch chat that Joel McKinney has a motorcycle which is just like what yeah you need to drive but like when you do drive it when it's so warm like there's so many black flies you're holding the sun it's just yeah for the 10 minutes that you can operate it yeah and here's an interesting one when it comes to Modern communication you know with Twitter and text messaging and stuff our language is being boiled down into just really like base we're heading back to hieroglyphics and apparently that is legally sound judge rules Farmers thumbs up emoji counts as a contract agreement I read the details of this I agree with the judge yeah I mean dude sent him a picture of the contract and it wasn't did you get the contract it was do you agree to the contract and the dude said thumbs up that's a I don't know like a digital signature I mean in theory yes but I think to protect yourself you would have to go forward actually get a signature I mean if you have something in writing though I've always been like always get stuff in writing this art this uh apparently this farmer has done it that way before though given his approval and stuff yeah yeah it's like he'd have no reason to president that that doesn't work I've had people play that kind of game before where it was like okay here's the thing and then it's like okay let's get started and it's like I need to sign document back and then later they it's like that doesn't judge doesn't matter it's like you you did all the other stuff to move forward with it so I bet uh if this hadn't played out this way and there was going to be an appeal about DocuSign would be like we're paying for them take care of that for you yeah the ultimate ad products or the S Pen from Samsung avoid the Emoji uncertainty with the S Pen from Samsung you can just use a regular pen just sign your contract Canada continues to spray its toxic smoke over all of us we're just discussing earlier that we're all having trouble sleeping yeah we're trying to determine does smoke cause that if we seem a little extra loopy today that's why yeah and it is very smoky here today very smoky and uh in Revenge we have cut off their source of news Google to remove news links in Canada in response to the online news law this is following it says it three times in a row row so Facebook and Google Now are they're pulling links to the news in their media platforms Google has said that there's room for negotiation I don't think Facebook is saying that right Facebook is just kind of like now oh yeah we're not going to bother you have to get all your news from threads now to be fair the same thing played out in Australia I'll show you kind of capitulated a little bit and I got their news back that's probably happen with Canada over in France things I seem to have improved somewhat but definitely scared the people in power and when they get scared they legislate macron accused of authority authoritarianism after a threat to cut off social media it's like everybody's unruly they get all amped up on social media we need to turn that off it's like I don't think that's thing free Nations do yeah a lot of people said uh Western democracies don't really do that remember when we've done all those stories about the other countries doing it and all these leaders condemned it you know what here we are a few years later you know what this article did not mention and shame on them for not mentioning the sanitation people are still on strike over the uh the uh um their lack of pay and benefits their lack of pay in the retirement age where they raise the retirement age that's a guy outrided pretty quick didn't they yeah yeah they're not right hard enough but there there's like the sanitation is just there's not enough garbage in the pictures of this because like where's the garbage because the sanitation people are still on it's all behind the camera they moved it over on camera like when they take those pictures of crowds and it's just a bunch of people corralled in with fences and it's like the streets are empty but yeah never let a crisis go to waste and uh certainly this is the U.S government Playbook how many times have we done this but macron he is slipping this one past you because he's like oh it's an emergency we got to do this France passes a bill to allow police to remotely activate phone camera microphone and spy on people which means they've always had the capability and they're just now quote unquote turning it on yeah this does require two judges to look at it but you should up like this article correctly points out the slippery slope of that it's like oh it's weird you know they said oh we're probably going to use this for a dozen cases a year set your calendars next year see how many it was if it's more than 12 uh you owe me a pizza I guarantee it's more than 12. oh yeah vegan pizza yeah we can you do the cheese no cheese yeah a green Pizza and uh the French government also I guess you know they were just feeling good they were all hopped up on Power and they said let's not stop let's apply some copyright rules while we're at it fresh government wants to inject a domain blocking list directly into web browsers this article also points out that in the beginning uh it was child exploitation stuff in Canada that was blocked in a similar way and immediately the copyright cartel said well if you use that to block that you should be able to use it to block copyright stuff and here we are sounds like none of those slopes you were talking about yeah anything to let information not be on the internet there are movie copyrights are so important except if you're using them for AI and then those are ours and this one it feels a little bit like an echo because it's the exact same argument for another reason that you can't have freedoms security researchers blast uh latest to blast on the UK's Online safety bill as encryption risk yes this is really dumb this is exceptionally done this is weaponizing the best intention of people for a worse outcome for everybody for the children but it will ultimately be a worse outcome for the children most of them and the uh UK is not the only one who is doing a big sweeping technology act EU has their AI act which is really going to slow down the development of AI and some of the people in the EU and by people I mean major corporations have decided to speak against it European companies claim that you use AI act could jeopardize technological sovereignty so you can see the offenders here some pretty big names Siemens Airbus Heineken if you wanted to make a list of EU companies who are already using AI I think we've got them right here yeah yeah please don't make us hire people people are expensive and the big word of the week in the economics or Global economics was de-risking China says that's silly you don't need to do that come on back to China we love you and everybody else is saying I don't know China I think I think there's a lot of risk there EU in Japan look to partner on AI and chips as China the risking strategy continues this is probably good although I think a lot of the chip de-risking so if we need bread and butter chips power Regulators USB you know power transistors I prefer deal signal conditioners analog ICS that stuff is baby steps let's do baby steps and just in case Amazon didn't have enough bad news this week from the FTC EU wants to get involved as well they spill blood in the water Amazon's iRobot Roomba acquisition under formal EU investigation yeah that that went really quickly we've covered this before and the big Theory here and I mean it's probably not a theory at all I mean they're going to do it is that all the uh Telemetry that's going to come back from that robot is going to give Amazon even more insight into your marketing profile and we've learned that the roombas can take pictures of you while you're pooping yeah and Canon do and and post them and people will look at them that was supposedly just a research thing but I don't want researchers looking at me poop yeah I don't want that Specter looming over me even a little bit and uh let's see is this the UK probably it's the guardian or am I sorted this but uh the the online rules they're going through the phases of like you can comment and then we're going to make changes and stuff and just seems to be getting more and more restrictive so there's more and more things that social media companies are going to have to actively prevent to not be in violation social media apps will have to Shield children from dangerous stunts but what if they're stupid I think based on what we've seen up until now a certain subset of them absolutely stupid I mean the boil water challenge how else you can explain that well no one knows I mean it's been going on for years in my household the child's not allowed to use the stove how would they have known the stove is hot tick tock hopefully your child could work that out on their own pretty early age you never yeah you never use it yourself as a parent like surely you've had a kid running around the kitchen be like oh don't come over here the stove is hot the reason your kid doesn't know the stove is odds because you're bringing home McDonald's every day if you want to figure out if this is absurd or not just search and replace social media for table saw you shouldn't be letting your kids do but usually you know you have the parent who is there to guide what about those kids who are working in the slaughterhouses oh there's for sure working with things more dangerous than Tick-Tock trains who's looking out for them and Sweden they have decided that they've had enough of people accidentally violating gdpr stop using Google analytics one Sweden's privacy Watchdog as it issues over one million dollars in fines basically if you're a Swedish company and you're using Google analytics it's collecting too much information it's been shown not to process information according to the gdpr and you should know better and sending it to America interesting we definitely take a look and here's the one that should have been sorted earlier but couldn't be because of categorization because we moved on to the Asian section and uh this is actually in response to the shutdown of the cloud exports us says it opposes export controls by China on metals and will consult allies so go tell my Dad we said China couldn't buy AI hard work fine can we can we rent it in the cloud the answer was yes until today so this is germanium and uh what's the other one yeah gallium one of which we have the other we do not I think it was gallium we didn't so we're gonna have to refine that somebody at the Pentagon didn't get the memo that we we've moved on from just germanium diodes now apparently chip companies are hip to this and they stockpile but how long is that Gonna Last not long enough and good news and perhaps also spurned by all this maybe China's like you know what we're gonna have to let our tech companies compete again because we're getting kind of killed here China has ended ant group's regulatory revamp with a 984 million dollar fine turns out they were doing pretty well and they they may be a good hope for China moving forward with very Advanced software and everything else Gotta Have somebody's got to build that AI right it ain't going to be the government can you imagine who they would put in charge from the Communist Party to do AI I hope it's like the guy in Japan who doesn't know how to check email it'd be worse than that and Mark Zuckerberg is uh I mean there's not a lot of good things you can say about the man but one thing one good thing he did was he was the only big Tech CEO that called out the reality of China stealing all the stuff and you know doing the anti-competitive stuff although he's himself anti-competitive so a little bit of a hypocrisy there but no one else would do it all the Google Microsoft there I'll just tiptoed around it Mark didn't he might regret that Chinese State media rebuked Mark Zuckerberg over reported plan to sell Quest headsets why are they rebuking him because he said those things a long time ago and China does not forget they do all the groceries so yeah he decided he wants to try to sell the quest headsets in China but it seems like the Chinese government and a lot of the Chinese social media are not looking to buy those I'm really enjoying the uh the threads uh Mark Zuckerberg Elon Musk uh slap fight that's currently going on I am too we're back to it being a possibility right yeah yeah okay but we have that in the business section right the threads all the former Twitter program is going to work on threads yeah yeah and India suck India is one of those places who could be the beneficiary of all that de-risking because it's probably not as risky to be in India as it is in China but like you said everybody's looking for the the trophy chips the hot stuff but we need some Workhorse chips and Reuters thinks that maybe India is the place for that Reuters the Reuters headline is India can aim lower in its chip dreams yes absolutely there you can make if you could responsibly manufacture those bread and butter ICS it you could you could print your own money just got to do the the less popular stuff instead of getting Chips Ahoy Great Value and it's it's hard to do that here in the US just for regulation and uh environmental reasons like you have to have the right geographical place that not only has water and you know all the right infrastructure available but when you inevitably contaminate something the contamination doesn't spread that's very there's only a few places in the U.S where that makes sense and there's not a lot of movement in those areas to get this done which is frustrating they're gonna have to compete with the drug companies who have already taken advantage of all the fresh water that's available in India dang it what which one do we want more hey this is a story about threads and the social media section is dominated by threads I'm so disappointed in so many of you Instagram's Twitter competitor threads briefly went live on the web I did not install it I did not either because I don't want an Instagram account but specifically this means like literally the web as in you don't have to have an app yeah but that was not to be forever so because now it's been turned back off on the web yeah now you do have to have an app and unfortunately so many of you got the app threads passes 30 million sign ups in less than 24 hours and I really like Mark Zuckerberg he posted his tweet which is amazing of him and his kids and he's like are getting a lot of work done today on foundational stuff and it was just like him showing his kids something about blocks and it's like this is Elon bait isn't it yeah because he had not tweeted in years yeah yeah that was for sure what that was and it worked and got a response uh Mr Elon sees a threat here for sure Oh I thought that was the next story but it's not uh this is a weird decision that they I also think this is odd it kind of I guess this is just lock-in is that the idea like you you can check in but you can never leave thread's profile can only be deleted but deleting Instagram account meta says so I think that it's tied pretty closely because if you have an Instagram account and you make a threads account it'll bring over your followers and stuff from Instagram yeah so maybe it's just a slightly different front end on the same uh Instagram back end yeah also the logo here is is I don't know what it's supposed to depict I'm not sure if it's I've heard some people say it's a g I've heard some people say it's a lowercase a it just looks like thread right it's Homer Simpsons a year some people some people have pointed out that it's there's three sixes in there oh of course because yeah we got to go that route too but Homer Simpson's hair looks like an m and so it's the it's the symbol below the M for meta I'm not sure I wonder how much research and development and money went into just making a um yeah I would love to see The Cutting Room floor the ones I threw out yeah somebody somebody branched a lot on that it's the one guy that's still watching it works at meta and Twitter is uh it's got to be terrifying here because those big numbers and you know the world is turned against Twitter recently so what can you do well if you're a big tech company this is old hat Twitter is threatening to sue meta over threads good luck but wait didn't Elon Musk fire all those people like what yeah he said that oh they took all of our talent except you can't really enforce a non-compete in California and he also made comments on Twitter when he fired all those people saying good luck they're not worth anything and he didn't pay them yeah like they were promised all this money and he's just like no oh yes Severance packages that never got paid so I mean if you if you didn't enforce that part why can you enforce the other seems like a big old pile of chickens coming home to roost right there he left around and now he's finding out and uh meta is also looking to uh capitalize on some other conflict and failure in the tech World specifically Apple and Google who are now getting torn down with their walled Gardens and he wants to be the first over the wall Bennett is planning to let people in the EU download apps through Facebook that's good he should interesting he should make a parody of the Ronald Reagan Mr Gorbachev tear down that wall and see me Mr cook it's weird because we've all been kind of like making fun of meta for the last like six months to a year because he's all been about the metaverse but now I feel like this last week he's been making some power moves it came out of nowhere yeah I don't think it was a long game I think this is opportunistic but we're getting it done yeah it would be amazing if he actually had some sort of turnaround and and said here is the Federation protocol here's the open data protocol here's the thing and here's your here's how anybody can host their own thread it's instance they won't do that but yeah definitely not gonna do that but it'll be cool and that was the big story and that pushed out the past big story I think we're entering into the timeline here of acceptance but first we had to go through the uh what step is it where you are uh you're just sad depression depression yeah I think this was The Depression phase Reddit users are saying goodbye to their favorite app so it's tributes and memes this is because uh Reddit never could get their act together on figuring out what to charge third parties for API access uh I don't know if this is true or not but uh some people had messaged me and said that things are Bleak inside Reddit because of their advertising situation and they did get downgraded again by their creditors like that oh that was a public story yeah yeah so that was the second time I believe it and we are just seeing sort of piecemeal all the various parts of Reddit that people enjoyed that now people are saying we're done putting any effort into this do-it-yourself amas ask me any things are the latest casualty in the Reddit API War why because the only way to manage that much chaos was not on the Reddit platform itself so they've given us a bullet list of things that they're not going to do anymore which basically is everything that you would have to do to manage this somebody else is going to try to take that over and it is going to be a dumpster fire yeah could be entertaining I guess we'll we'll be right here together with you in that dumpster fire and we can enjoy it together holding yourself screaming yeah petting your head gently it's fine my Skin's melting off I don't want to be here at this point I can't breathe yeah all right we'll see you in the next one bye\n"
